Hello again, and welcome to the 2004 Otaku Awards! Like every year, our humble Otaku universe has changed and expanded greatly. Our mothership, theOtaku.com has added several great new sections, most notably MyOtaku.com, and as a result is becoming very well-known in the anime community. Just a few months earlier the site was mentioned on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, isn't that cool? Well, I think it's cool... anyway... Just like last year, we are sitting on the even of OtakuBoards' most exciting change yet, Version 7.0! By this time next year OB will be a radically different place, and everyone should try and look forward to the amazing things in store. Having said that, let's start the voting! Unlike previous years, we are establishing this as a "nominations" thread for the first time ever. The three members who receive the most votes in each category will be the final candidates, and a seperate thread will be created to vote among the top three. In addition to nominations, we are continuing the proccess of "Honorable Mentions" that we started last year. Honorable mentions will recieve one half point, whereas the primary vote will be worth a full point. Remember, an honorable mention selection is not mandatory. Furthermore, you don't have to vote for every category, because we understand that members have different interests and don't frequent every forum. Oh, and you may only vote for one individual in each category. So, choose wisely. Any vote that fails to follow this, or any other rule will be disqualified. Now, let the awards begin! General Awards Overall Member of the Year: Honorable Mention: Male Otaku of the Year: Honorable Mention: Female Otaku of the Year: Honorable Mention: Staff Member of the Year: Honorable Mention: Funniest Member: Honorable Mention: Most Opinionated Otaku: Honorable Mention: Member most likely to be here in two years: Honorable Mention: Best Newbie: Honorable Mention: Best Oldie: Honorable Mention: Most likely to become a Staff Member: Honorable Mention: Favorite Banned Member: Honorable Mention: Most improved Member of the Year: Honorable Mention: Thread of the Year: Honorable Mention: Silliest Thread of the Year: Honorable Mention: Random Awards Avatar Award: (Best Avatars Overall) Honorable Mention: Signature Award: (Best Signatures Overall) Honorable Mention: Best Location: (Best Specific Location) Honorable Mention: Best Otaku Couple: Honorable Mention: Best looking Otaku: Honorable Mention: Otaku clique of the Year: Honorable Mention: Best MyOtaku: Honorable Mention: Otaku Writers Poet Laureate: Honorable Mention: Writer of the Year: Honorable Mention: Orginal Story of the Year: Honorable Mention: Role-Player of the Year: Honorable Mention: Brawler of the Year (sparring): Honorable Mention: Role-Playing Game of the Year Honorable Mention: Social Otakus Otaku Social member of the year: Honorable Mention: Entertainment Otaku of the Year: Honorable Mention: Anime Otakus Otaku of the Year: (Best Anime member overall) Honorable Mention: .hack//SIGN Member of the Year: Honorable Mention: DragonBall Guru: Honorable Mention: Digipeep of the Year: Honorable Mention: Gundam Member of the Year: Honorable Mention: Yu-Gi-Oh Member of the Year: Honorable Mention: Least Disappointing Yu Yu Hakusho Member: Honorable Mention: Otaku Gamers Gamer of the Year: Honorable Mention: Nintendo "Mario" Award: Honorable Mention: The Sony Award: Honorable Mention: Xbox Gamer of the Year: Honorable Mention: PC Gamer of the Year: Honorable Mention: Otaku Artists Best Graphic Designer (Banners, wallpapers, etc.): Honorable Mention: Best "Traditional" Artist (Drawings, paintings, etc.): Honorable Mention: Best Spriter: Honorable Mention: Series Otakus Series Otaku Member of the Year: Honorable Mention: Square/Enix Member of the Year: Honorable Mention: PokéPlaque (Pokemon): Honorable Mention: The Triforce Award (Zelda): Honorable Mention: These awards were made possible thanks for Crazy White Boy (Charles) and James. I'm sorry, but I just don't see this generating any intelligent discussion. Please put more thought into what you post in the future, and read the rules. Topic locked. -Shy

Yeah, I'm not going to allow these types of threads because they often lead to silly and pointless bickering. You can look at the 527 "Relina neds 2 die!!1" threads that are scattered throughout the Gundam forum as a prime example on why these types of topics do not work. Thread closed. -Shy

We have "rules" on these boards, and "rules" are semi-strict guidelines that all members must adhere to. Please try looking at these "rules" before posting anything else ever again. Thank you. -Shy

Lumps the Christmas Sloth Kidnapped Santa!
Shy replied to Dragon Warrior's topic in General Discussion
...yes, I'm going to follow my heart and close this thread. Dragon Warrior, you have been here for over two years, and you should know the rules by now. We already have had several "What do you want for Christmas?" threads during the past few weeks. Limiting the wishing to one gift doesn't seem like a drastic change from previous topics, but I could be wrong... hm. Please try to be more careful about the nonsense you post on these boards, gracias. animefreak58, please watch your post quality and read the rules. This is your first warning. -Shy -
I'm going to close this thread, since we generally don't allow favorites threads on the boards. Please put more thought into threads you create in the future, and read the rules. Topic closed. -Shy

I'm really happy that Bloodsin is gone, but I think that went without saying. There have been other members who I was much happier to see banned, Taylor Hewitt being one in particular. (Peach Head can tell you all about my dislike of him, heh.) Good work on the banner. Moments such as this make me happy to work as a moderator. -Shy
Originally posted by CompletelyRando When I first saw it he DID have the description below the banners. But then he changed his mind for some reason. Either that or I'm tripping out again.
No, you are right. I changed it so that everything would appear to be more organized... or something. AzureWolf: Those greeting cards are in the greeting card forum. I posted them earlier today for the world to see. Heh. -Shy
Originally posted by Baron Samedi Really though, Rando has a point... depending on how you view it, it does seem to show OB in a kind of.... unpleasant light. I know you don't feel it but... lol. Maybe use the word... OBservant. I don't know.
Using the word "OBsessed" would probably be best to describe me, seeing as I spend a ridiculous amount of time here. Heh. Most of my banners do come across as boring, though. I can't really argue with you there. And you're right about Bosko, Ozzy J. I don't have any real Bosko artwork to post, but he is here in spirit. -Shy
Originally posted by CompletelyRando --EDIT-- Forgot to add this. The OBsolete banner seems to imply that Otaku Boards aren't worth anyone's time.
Yeah, being a Category Mod I don't see why people bother to post here. I'm just sticking around for the weekend, and by Monday I'll be able find a nice Dragonball web site to hang out at. That would be so kewl. Post quality is for losers, anyway. But yeah, I was more implying that I was "OBsolete" with the banner. I didn't mean it as an attack on the boards or something. Thank you for the comments, CompletelyRando. They are appreciated. -Shy

These are actually quite old banners, but I thought it would be fun to share them with all of you. It has been a while since I posted anything here, so a giant collection of my banners would seem like fresh material to anyone who has been here less than six months. Sad pictures of Shinji are really easy to work with, so I use them quite often. [*]This is a psuedo-sequel to the other banner. I don't think I have ever put it on the boards before this. [*]Kaworu's Eyes just look really cool in this picture. [*]I don't like to use colors very often, but this is an example of when I love color. The picture is very melancholy, so I thought that the colors would make it more exciting. [*]This banner is used every year during my annual Mimi Awareness Week. Whenever I add it to my sig people seem to notice it, and as a result people are more aware of Mimi. Good stuff, eh? [*]Two characters from Macross. I thought it was a tender moment, and captured it with this banner. [*]Anya is one of my favorite characters from "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer." This was the first of three Buffy banners that I made. It features a quote from the musical episode, and a connected image. [*]A lot of people have commented that Tara looks unattractive in this picture, but I don't see what is so ugly about her. [*]The third of my "Buffy" banners. [*]This was made to promote the uber-cool Kill Adam RPG. James came along shortly after my banner was created and made one of his own, so I decided to ditch this quickly and use his. [*]Snoopy is cool, and I wanted to find a good place to use the picture. A banner/avatar combination seemed like a good idea at the moment. [*]This was made in response to the recent accident at Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland. This is a picture of the mountain, slightly distorted with a few effects. [*]This was going to be the first of a series of OB banners for different members. Each member would have a different word that had the letters "OB" in it, and the word would have some connection to them, Needless to say, the idea failed miserably. [*]A new banner that inspired me to create this thread. I had been meaning to do something with Betty Boop for a while, and after reading a totally unrelated article I was inspired.
Comment and critique, please. -Shy

Seeing as we already have an anime themes topic on this page, I'm just going to make that the primary "anime song" thread for the moment. This thread is closed, since we really don't need two of the same thing running around. -Shy
-
Seeing as this will lead to commercial advertising of some kind, I'm going to close this and the other thread in Gundam. .hack//IZUAL, there are numerous stores and web sites that feature .hack//SIGN stuff, so it should be easy to find what you want with a simple Google search. Thread closed. -Shy

I'm sorry, but we generally don't allow threads like this because they lead to short anfd pointless posts. Also, this type of discussion has been done a million times before. Please try to put more effort into thinking of a unique discussion topic, and enjoy the boards. Thread closed. -Shy

Everyone, remember this post because this is quite possibly the worst thread ever created. When I look back on the threads that I have closed here, this one will stand out as a dark beacon of misery in an already miserable landscape. Anyway, judging from the qualities of posts that I have seen so far it is obvious that InuYasha3336 has not bothered to read the rules. Due to the poor nature of this post I will close the thread for all eternity, yay. -Shy

I'm not even sure if this is allowed... oh well... Angel - Even without Cordelia, this may turn out to be the strongest season yet. Spike seemed a lot more interesting as a ghost, though. Batman - Christian Bale is going to be Batman in the next film, how can this not be a good thing? California Weather - I can't stand being outside in the cold, and since I work outdoors I would prefer to keep things warm. Disneyland - My favorite place. My home. My paycheck. Evangelion - Greatest anime series ever. Anyone who thinks otherwise has been watching far too much Inu-Yasha. Friends and associates - I wouldn't be here without them. They keep me going when I'm unusually depressed. Gay People - I sure would hate to be the only one, geesh. Thank goodness for other people who can relate to me. Hungry, Hungry Hippos - I really love this game. My only complaint is that people often pound too hard on the levers, and end up breaking the board. Internet - This is where all of my free time goes. It has helped me in a number of ways, and I would be a much different person without it. [strike]James[/strike] [strike]Journalism[/strike] Jenna! - After some deliberation I have decided that Jenna, my car, is most deserving of a mention here. The other "J's" are really great, though. Kill Bill volume 1 (and eventually volume 2) - This is one of my favorite movies, and it is quite difficult to think of good "K" things. Late Nights of working on stuff. - I get my best work done after midnight. Kimahri from FFX - Kimahri is the best White Mage ever. More people should try to build up these statistics as opposed to his fighting abilities. Mail (Receiving letters and paychecks and such.) - Letters from Sara are way too much fun. Also, I need my paycheck or else I would not be able to afford Jenna. Newspapers - This is one of my few passions in life. Being able to inform the populace is a wonderful thing. OtakuBoards - Yeah. I love the people here. Paper and Dice RPGs - Dungeons and Dragons is a lot of fun. If anyone ever gets the chance they should try playing it a few times. Quiet - ......mm.... References to Nerdy things - People like Manic make life worth living. Anyone who can make a "Super Friends" reference and follow it up with something about "Saved by the Bell" is my hero. Sara - Sara is the bestest in the mid-westest. Typewriters and the cool sounds they make Understanding - Without it I would not be here, or anywhere today. Vacations - Work can be fun sometimes, but it is the days off that make life worth living. Winnie the Pooh - I see him every day at work, and thank him immensely for the money he gives me. X-Men - The cartoon series have been great so far, and the movies are improving at a steady rate. However, if it weren't for Ultimate X-Men I would be much more thankful than I already am. Yaoi (I need the images for my banners and avatars, I swear.) Zoolander - A terribly underrated film. Everyone gives wonderfuk performances in it, and this is one of the few times where I can stand Owen Wilson for more than 20 minutes. -Shy
Originally posted by Hells Fire They drew more girls to the show by having Hawkman get a sex change and they drew more African Americans by having Green Lantern Black.
I just wanted to point ou that Hawkgirl is a real character in the DC universe, and was not created specifically for the Justice League cartoon. Just in the same way that Robin is an individual, Hawkgirl is more than an accessory to Hawkman. To be honest, I find "white" Green Lanterns to be pretty generic. I have too many bad memories from "Super Friends" where a Caucasian Green Lantern would defeat the Joker by creating a giant fly swatter or something. -Shy

At any given moment there are a few dozen online petitions circulating throughout the web. For the most part they are unsuccessful and a waste of time, but there are rare instances when they have succeeded in whatever agenda the petition is attempting to push. In order to appease those members who engage in this sort of thing, this thread has been set up to inform Anime Loung visitors of the anime-oriented petitions that are circulating at the moment. This is a place to describe the petitions, post a link and give some background information on what it is about. A member may post a petition, or multiple petitions by filling out the form below for each one. Petition Title: URL: Petition's Goal: (include a brief description, if neccessary) Comments, instructions, etc,:
Example Petition Title: Cowboy Bebop's 2003 Oscar Consideration URL: http://www.petitiononline.com/cbtmon/petition.html Petition's Goal: Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is not eligible for this year's Best Anime Feature of Best International Film awards. The film was released in 2002 in Japan, and as a result it cannot qualify for acceptance into this year's awards. Fans argue that the dubbing proccess took over a near to complete, and that this rule should be overlooked in cases such as this. Comments, inctructions, etc.: Sign the petition.
OB is not responsible for anything that may happen to you as a result of signing these petitions. These are simply elective, and nobody should be pressured into signing something that they do not want to. If you have questions regarding a certain petition, PM the members who originally posted a link about it. If you have a question or concern about the thread in general, PM, IM or E-mail me and I will try to help you out as best as I can. Love and peace, -Shy

#1 When did this interest start? SIxth grade, I believe. Right around when the Special Edition was released. #2 What is your favorite Book/Movie? Return of the Jedi. #3 How into Star Wars do you think you are? I'm not obsessed with the stuff, but I have so many friends who are that I know a substantial amount. #4 Do you do anything Star Wars related online, if so what? No, my computer is too weak to run Galaxies, and Star Wars discussions usually bore me online. #5 How do you pursue your interest in Star Wars here on the boards? I have joined a few Star Wars RPGs in the past, but nothing substantial. #6 Any general comments, cares or concerns about Star Wars you feel obligated to share? I play the Star Wars paper and dice RPG with my friends. As a result, I have learned a lot about the original and expanded universe. Also, I hate Episode 2. Sorry. -Shy
Originally posted by Shinmaru EDIT: For some reason, PoisonTongue's comments about the Back to the Future game reminded me of this one level in The Lion King (Just Can't Wait to be King, I believe). Basically, you just went through the level jumping through obstacles. HOWEVER, if Simba touched even one little pixel he was not supposed to touch, he died. Immediately. I swear, it took me fifty curse-filled lives to get through the first part of the level. Then I died during the second part and had to repeat the entire level again. Just Can't Wait to be King = most frustrating and unfun level in a video game I've ever played.
I just have to agree with Shinmaru on this one. While the Lion King was an excellent game, the Just Can't Wait to be King stage made me want to throw my controller through the window to my room. Fortunately, I beat the level and managed to complete the game.. but that doesn't make JCWTBK any less annoying. Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers was another very frustrating game. There were moments when an enemy would blanket the entire screen with an attack, and if you didn't go to one extremely hard to reach spot you would die instantly. The worst part is that this sort of thing happened in every level. In terms of enemy placement, this is one of the worst games ever created. And yes, Jet Force Gemini is one of the few games that I ever owned without successfully completing. There were many points where I didn't understand what I was supposed to do, or eveh where I was supposed to. Call me crazy, but trying to figure out vague mission objectives is never fun. Final Fantasy X is also pissing me off at the moment, but I haven't been motivated the buiild up my party like I usually do in RPGs. I'm just lazy these days, so I deserve to be slaughtered by the boss of the game. -Shy
