Originally posted by BabyGirl Magdalena, I like grocery store cashiers very much. Vons is the grocery store of Southern California [maybe all of California, I don't know] and their employees are always so nice. Their cashiers are usually women who have been working at the store for YEARS because they receive such good benfits and are treated well as employees. They're all so friendly and a lot of them know my boyfriend and I because we're always in there for some reason or another. So I like the cashiers at Vons, they're so nice ^___^
I love Vons. There is one a block away from my house, and my family shops there all of the time. It's so refreshing to go to a business and have the employees be friendly to you, as opposed to how rudely some people act today. I always try my best to be friendly and helpful at my job, even though I literally have to deal with thousands of guests every hour. -Shy

As I said to you before, I really like this piece of work. I find the ducks really amusing for some reason, and think they were cut out pretty well. So yeah, good work. I don't really have much else to say.... -Shy
Originally posted by Meteora Ok Im sorry to say but we already have this thread on OB in the DBZ section. Go look there. Now so that I dont get in trouble the answer is Goku I think. Unless your talking about the movie's as well then that would be Brolli.
*nods* You sure are good at finding this tyoe of stuff, Meteora, heh. Anyway, we already have one trivia thread in the Dragonball Z forum, so there is no need for a second (or third, in this case.) Please stop making duplicate threads, this is your last warning. -Shy
Originally posted by BabyGirl Does anyone living here in California plan on voting in the recall election? Who do you think will win or has a good shot?
As of right now I'm not entirely sure who I am going to be voting for in the recall election. In the beginning I wanted to vote for Arnold, but during the past few weeks I've begun to question his role as a politician. I know very little about his stance on most issues (his website is quite vague) and I want some more conrete answers before I give any candidate my vote. As of right now I'm not sure who will win, or even if the recall campaign will be successful at all. I think Bustamante has a strong chance, and it's a real possibility that the recall election will fail because of a lack of focus from the Republican party.
Did the ACLU really need to be concerned with "voting equipment", or do you think it was something more? That's a lot of questions, but being not very up to date on the recall deal myself [embarassingly enough], I want to hear what everyone else has to say. That's all :)
I think the ACLU just likes to stick it's nose where it doesn't really belong. The longer they can prolong this circus the better a chance that Davis can remain in office. I'm not a fan of talking about "left wing conspiracies" but if nothing else these elections just show how incredibly biased every part of our world can be. It doesn't really matter to anyone but the ACLU what type of voting equipment is used, and if people are unable to operate a punchcard they have no right to vote in an important election such as this. -Shy

I'm sorry, but we don't usually allow threads as broad as this because they end up leading to short and pointless posts. Please try to put a little more substance into your posts, and read the rules. Topic closed. -Shy

I'm sorry, but you'll have to do your own research. Threads like this aren't really allowed, because they do not generate any discussion. Please put more thought into your posts, and read the rules. Anyone willing to help out Dusk can feel free to send him a PM with the information he needs. Topic closed. -Shy

I'd probably go with Manic if I were to switch places with a male, and either Queen Asuka or Babygirl if I were to switch places with a female. I'm forever in awe of how funny and clever Manic is, his sense of humor just realy "clicks" with me for some reason that I can't explain. He probably loves animation as much as I do, and he has that cool Beast avatar. What more could I ask for? Being Tony or James would require too much effort, and I'd much rather be friends with them than be them, if that makes any sense. Babygirl and Queen Asuka are both just really great ladies that I've come to know through the years. It's be interesting to learn more about both of them if I actually got to be them. It's hard to choose between the two of them, because it seems like they boh lead pretty interesting lives. I'd probably go with Jenna, though, just because I can't imagine leaving Southern California. -Shy

I never cared very much for school spirit weeks. In fact, my dislike of them is what first inspired me to write angry rants in my high school newspaper. Without them I probably wouldn't have pursued my interest in Journalism as much as I have, so I'm grateful for them in that respect. Anyway, we always had things like Hawaiian Days, Pirate Days, Nerd Days, Sports Days and the ultra-generic Class Color Days. In my opinion, things like this only work if the entire class is doing it. If it's just a few random people from the student government who participate then nobody really cares. -Shy

As Meteora pointed out, we already have a trivia game at the top of the page. Please post your trivia in there, rather than making a seperate topic. Thread closed. -Shy

I go to Chaffey College in California, which is the oldest Junior College in the United States. I'm staying there for a while until i figure out what I want to do with my life, and where I want to study. It's a great campus, and it has an excellent view of the Inland Empire because of it's fairly high altitude. The teachers are pretty nice, and I enjoy licing so close to campus (a few miles, compared to my very long drive to work.) -Shy

Seeing as nobody but Hells Fire expleined why the Gundam was their favorite, this thread obviously isn't contrbuting to any intelligent discussion. The music in Cowboy Bebop is a huge part of the series, moreso than any other television series (American or Japanese) I have ever seen. No matter who you are there must be a few songs that you enjoy. My Mom (who knows nothing about anime) heard some of the Cowboy Bebop "Blue" OST, and really seemed to enjoy it. She didn't lke every song, but it just goes to show how the same music can appeal to 18, 38 and even 68 year olds. Welcome to the boards CB Shin :whoops: -Shy

I don't work as a cashier, but because my job as a ride operator I can relate to a lot of these. I feel your pain, brother. Hurry The **** Up - It's very easy to walk into a beeive-shaped car and sit down, but for others it is insanely difficult. Children always run into the car and pull down on their lap bars before their parents can sit down, which is quite annoying. Even though we assign people to certain rows before they enter the car, groups of twelve all try to fit in the front row. They see that the car can only fit three people in a row, so what compells them to be so stupid? Argh. >_
Originally posted by Baron Samedi I was real excited there. Someone said 'Joshness' and I thought it was me. Heeeeeey, waidaminute.... no-one here knows my real name *looks around*
Sorry Baron, I'm OB's official "Joshness." See, the great thing about being a Category Mod is that you can make everything official. (Example: A Dagwood is the official comic-themed sandwich on the boards.) -Shy

Here's the short list; it would be take me hours to write up every OB member who has affected me in some way. They haven't completely changed who I am or anything, but their little contributions to my life have made a difference. Sara and Semjaza are the two people I talk to most from OB. The conversations I have with them are really varied, and I find that I can learn a lot from both of them. They influence me in random ways, like Semjaza recommending a band that I end up really liking, or Sara sending me Hallmark cards through the mail. It's all a bunch of little things really, and that's a little more important to me. James gave me my first moderating job way back in V4, and back then I really didn't know him very well. Since then we have spoken a little more often, and he has helped me through some prety difficult times. Yay for James. Syk3 is just a really great person that I have gotten to know through The Otaku and OB. I like having someone around who can relate to my pain as an anime mod / The Otaku staff member, it makes things much more bearable. Queen Asuka: She's an incredibly nice person, and everyone loves her to death. I really enjoy our conversations, even though they might be few and far between. She's also given me a lot of helpful advice, and helped me get a new perspective on the Mormon faith. ^_^ E-Dawg: It seems I only ever talk to him when I'm in a bad mood, and i'm sorry for that. But he's helped me through some difficult times, and like many others, I don't know where I would be today without their friendship. Charles, Solo, Mitch, Lady M and Babygirl are really varied and interesting people that I got to know through the boards, and I find that I'm always learning something from their posts. I haven't gotten to know any of them as much as I'd like, but it's mostly the older (age-wise) members that make this a fun place to visit. Transtic: Yeah, we still don't know each other very well, even after all of these years. I really admire his direct attitude towards everything, and chances are it would have taken me even longer to "come out" without him being such a unique presence on the boards. Ken inspired me to get my job at Disneyland, so of all OB members he has probably had the most direct influence on my life. Yay for Ken. OtakuBot: I love you, man. Obviously, there are A LOT more OB members who have changed or helped me in some way or another. I'm not dropping any more names than these, so I'm sorry if I left someone out. -Shy
Originally posted by MillieFan Could someone ask him to change it?
Why didn't you just send him a PM, rather than make a thread about your complaint? That seems a lot more direct... oh well. Anyway, I don't think the avatar is too offensive. The boards are already strict about so many things, I don't think we need to outlaw offensive acronyms. -Shy

I find myself watching a lot of Disney Channel shows, and even though Lizzie McGuire isn't my favorite or anything I find it pretty enjoyable. It reminds me of "Clarissa Explains It All," so in that respect it brings back a lot of fond memories. The characters are pretty amusing, especially Gordo and Miranda. It's a shame that Miranda left the show so suddenly, but she always felt like a 5th wheel to Lizzie, Matt and Gordo anyway. I like the episode where Lizzie starts dating her paperboy, and her friends feel left out. When I saw it I was going through a similar experience, and by the end of the show I learned a valuable lesson about friendship. It's kind of odd how I can learn so many lessons by watching Disney Channel shows; I've never had that problem by watching Invader Zim. -Shy

It was a fun story, even though I would be a terrible announcer. Heh, oh well. Good work, and thank you for including me in a couple of lines. -Shy

I've decided to respond through Asuka's questionaire. Do you sing in the shower? I sing in the shower all of the time, actually. What song do you sing occasionally? I usually sing songs from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical. ^_^" And why do you think you sing it? It started out of boredom, I guess, and slowly turned into a hobby of sorts. But I would never even connsider singing outside of the shower, I'd be too embarassed. -Shy

I made a thread about this... a month or so ago, the link is here. Anyway, here's what I think about it. Note: The series does not look nearly this good. MTV recently launched a new animated series about the collegic adventures of Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson, and Harry Osborne. This is much different than any previous Spider-Man animation, the main difference being that these the situations are heared towards young adults, and the animation is fully computer generated. If any of you saw the MTV Movie Awards this year you should know exactly what the animation looks like. It is basically cel-shading so everything looks like it was taken out of a Jet Grind Radio cut-scene. These designs are somewhat faithful to the original comics they were inspired by, but were based on the new "Ultimate Spider-Man" comic book series. In fact, Brian Michael Bendis, a writer for the comic, was a consultant for several of the episodes. Some of the designs look great, (The Lizard being a prime example) but the main problem is that characters designs are not the most important part of animation, the animation is. For some reason TV is unable to do a CGI series with realistic movements, and everyone ends up walking around like a bunch of robots. This makes the action very uninteresting and blocky, which is a major problem for an action show like this. It is even worse when the characters try to be intimate, like in a scene where
Mary Jane and Peter kiss.
There is no depth to their movements, and it looks like one of those animated films people make with their action figures of Legos. The techno background music fits the series surprisingly well, but the voice acting is weak. I guess being "cool" on MTV means that you have to sound bored most of the time, and it gets tired to hear such unpassionate dialogue from two characters who are fighting to the death. Peter Parker's voice fits him pretty well, but there is no distinction between him and Spider-Man. Spider-Man sounds like a bored slacker, which is the worst way to portray the character. He is a regular guy who is trying to be Superman, and even though he has his fair share of failures he continues to bounce back with a clever reply. The stories are really tired. One episode a nerd on campus gains super-powers and attacks the fraternity house, while in another Harry dates a villain without knowing it. Even though this is MTV there isn't the edginess that one would expect, and in many ways this is a tamer series than FOX's old Spider-Man cartoon on Saturday morning. I was hoping that airing on MTV would give them a chance to push the boundaries of these characters, but nothing is pushed. This is basically the same Peter and Harry that went to college in the 1960's, only now Mary Jane is a boring and angsty sidekick, void of the passion that she had in the old comics. Harry is annoying, but he has always been like that. Aside from the nice apartment I'll never understand why Peter makes friends with a person like Harry, oh well. The writers seem a little confined, since they are trying to stay within the boundaries set by the movie. I think they should have just thrown caution to the wind, and done whatever they want. Hopefully toning down the Marvel characters for mainstream audiences isn't going to be a huge trend, but after Hulk and Teen Titans it looks like hardcore fans are stuck with the comic books if they don't want to be disappointed. There is also a lot of name-dropping, which is used as a combination of filler and product placement in the episodes. One of the villains steals an MTV movie award, while Spider-Man swings by a few corporate logos while chasing down the Lizard. In closing, I recommend this show to people like me, who enjoy watching super-hero shows, regardless of the qality. By far, this is not the worst animated series based on Spider-Man (Spider-Man Unlimited is), but nobody but fans of the character will find any enjoyment out of the show. Problems with the plots, animation and characters are great to make this noteworthy, and I'd much rather be watching a rerun of "Clone High." -Shy

I don't really cry, but it's not like I'm trying to be ultra-macho or anything. When I was younger I used to cry a lot, mostly for smaller things, but as I grew up I found myself crying less and less. The weird thing is that my problems seem to get worse and worse, while my general apathy towards those problems increase. As Bosko demonstrates in this graph, I'm slowly becoming a robot. Any questions? -Shy

I don't really see the point of this thread, since it appears to be breeding a lot of spam. I'm going to close it, and pretend it never existed... -Shy

The series has fully run in the US, so it isn't a big deal that cartoon Network has decided to rerun the series. This thread has already run it's course in seven posts, so I'm going to close it. -Shy

Everyone in this thread needs to calm down, or else I'll need to start banning members. Many of you have been warned about this sort of behavior in the past; "playing mod" and insulting other members is strictly against the rules. So yeah, we don't allow threads like this because they are against our rules on post wuality. Please read the rules, and put more thought into your future posts. -Shy

My friend is a huge fan of Kodocha, and owns nearly all of the mange that has been released in America. Apparently the story mimics her life on several occasions, and she can relate to some of the more serious problems they have been through. It's strange to see her get so emotional about it, but in spite of that she is remains a loyal reader. I haven't read any myself, though. -Shy
