Originally posted by Dragon Warrior You know what ride really needs to die? The Country Bears one at Disneyland. Actually, it's not even a ride and they call it one. It's kind of silly, even for little kids. I remember when I went to it when I was little that nobody liked it. It's scarring beyond belief XD *wakes up every night and sees a shadow of a dancing bear on his wall and sweats immensly with fright*
That ride has been closed for well over a year and a half. They replaced it with a new Winnie The Pooh ride, which I coincidentally work at. The versions at Orlando and Tokyo are supposed to be very popular, but I haven't had a chance to see them. -Shy

Sorry guys, but we already have a major caption contest thread in Otaku Lounge, and I feel that this sort of thing lowers the overall quality of the forum. You can post any kind of pictures you want in the main caption contest thread, so is no need to make a YGO specific-one. -Shy
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel You know, why don't we even have any animatronic rides around here? I can't think of one place that has any other than Disney-whatever, and that's not exactly an option.
Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure in Florida have a few, and I belive that one of the Busch Gardens parks has an animatronic ride of some sort. I think the main reason that these rides are sparse is because of operating costs. There are not many people who know how to maintain animatronic figures, whereas roller coasters are pretty simple in terms of mechanics or whatever. We are getting a Tower of Terror at Disneyland's California Adventure next Spring. Everyone is really excited about it here, since this is the first major thrill ride that has been at a Disney park since Indiana Jones. BTW: Indiana Jones is an excellent ride, and you all need to go to Disneyland and try it. -Shy

Semjaza recommended this band to me a while ago, and just recently I bought their new CD. As you said, most of the lyrics are wonderful and very wel-written. I find it really refreshing to hear lyrics that actually mean something, since most modern bands completely disregard the importance of songwriting. They use the keyboards a lot in their new album, but I really don't mind. The keyboard gives them a pretty unique sound that I love. I haven't heard a lot of their previous stuff, but I'm definitely going to get their other CDs one of these days. According to their website they are having a concert in my area soon, so I'm thinking about going to that. It seems like it would be ufn, but I need to find someone else to tag along. Hm. Go buy Ozma CDs! -Shy

Fraggle Rock characters also fall under the jurisdiction of Muppet-dom. That was a fun show, I don't remember very much about it, though... Statler and Waldorf, the two old guys in the balcony are my favorite characters. They have never failed to make me laugh whenever I see an old rerun of the Muppet Show. I don't think they air the series on television anymore. Too bad. -Shy

[strike]The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh at Disneyland[/strike] I enjoy Disneyland dark rides more than I like roller coasters; but I'm still a huge fan of roller coasters. I go to Six Flags whenever I get a chance, my favorite ride there is Goliath. A lot of roller coasters are really shaky, and they hurt my neck a lot. I prefer my rides to be smooth and entertaining, which is why I enjoy dark rides and smooth steel coasters. My favorite ride is probably the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. The ride seems a little dated by today's standards, but I still love it. Everything about it is just a lot of fun, and I wish that other parks would try to emulate the storytelling that Disney theme parks do so well. All other amusement parks are a joke, in my opinion. *goes back to working for Disney* -Shy

If Altron wants to revive this thread he is more than welcome to, but I'm going to close and unstick this now. No real discussion has formed, and very few people are helping Altrron by contributing actual Gundam bios. I see no point in keeping this around. -SHy
Originally posted by LetalisNox Is there a message in Gundam Wing (however unintended) about the value of youth's opinions in today's world? In society today, people believe that well-aged and experienced men (and occasionally, women) are best suited to run things. Yet, look at Gundam Wing: The well-aged die off (profusely) leaving their kids to sort things out as best they can. The ones that remain are power-hungry wanna-be dictators (General Septum, Duke Dermail, Quinze Barton, Dekim Barton) that think they know it all, when in essence, they know nothing. Even the ones that mean well enough (Howard, General Noventa, the scientists) can only support the kids in their battles, and not go for the fight themselves. Kind of long, there, but I seriously must ask: Is Gundam Wing really a tribute to the utter incompetance of most, if not all, adults? When it boils right down to worldwide chaos, who should we turn to for guidance? Fellow otakus? Your thoughts.
This was a great post LetalisNox. Welcome to OB, I hope this is the first of many intelligent topics. One of the main things about Endless Waltz was that everyone was trying to prevent a war on Earth. The war between the Colonies and Earth was so terrible and horiffic that humanity was forced to create lasting peace. War was over, for everyone, including the soldiers. But a soldier will always be a soldier, and the urge to fight will remain with them until the day they die. Our only real hope to create peace lies with the next generation. The Gundam pilots, Zechs and even Relena represent the last generation of warriors. Their lives have been set into place long ago by their parents and guardians, especially with Heero and Relena. They have very little control over their own fate, but can radically change things for future generations. In the long run that's how it is for everything. We can only improve our own lives so much, but our hopes for the future can be limitless. Children are the future, and their unlimited potential can make them as great or as weak a leader as they want to be. That's what "coming of age" is all about, and that's why most of the characters are adolescents. (That and they look good in bathing suits, anyway...) They are at the age where they will decide about what they are going to do with their life; how they are going to change the world, for better or for worse. I don't see Gundam Wing as an epic "Parents are lame," story, but one could definitely interpret it that way. -Shy

Writing Ultimates (Pseudo-Official Comics in General Thread!)
Shy replied to Semjaza's topic in Creative Works
I picked up a few comics this week: Ultimate X-Men #35, Gotham Central #8, and Captain America #1-6 (in a hardcover collection,.) Except for Ultimate X-Men, I haven't read any of the series before, but good word of mouth convinced me to get Gotham Central, and I fell in love with the artwork in Captain America. Let's start with the top. Ultimate X-Men #35: I'm a little frustrated that Wolverine/Logan/Jim/etc. is the only X-Man currently appearing in Ultimate X-Men. I really think that they should give the character his own series, and let the rest of the X-Men do something for once. Anyway, this storyline isn't particularily interesting to me for one reason: People are always trying to kill Wolverine, and he always ends up on top, so Spider-Man's help is definitely not needed. The writing in issue two seemed a little weak, especially with Spider-Man. Personally I don't think that Spider-Man and Wolverine have very much chemistry together. Whenever I see them paired up I know it is being done to sell more comic books. Even in the Ultimate universe there are dozens of characters who would be much more interesting if they were paired up with Wolverine or Spider-Man. Black Widow's appearance in the comic was handled well, but I wish that she was used in a fight scene rather than some boring exposition. Now people who read Ultimate X-Men and not Ultimates know what the Ultimates are about, and they know that the comic features beautiful women with guns *insert Ultimates ad on next page* I don't care what happens in the next issue; this issue's cliffhanger seemed pretty generic to me. Gotham Central #8: Gotham Central is a new DC series about police officers in Gotham City (home of Batman.) The concept is really interesting to me, and after hearing about the comic I knew that I had to try it. The curent "Half a Life" storyline is about Renee Montoya, who you might remember from Batman: The Animated Series. She is framed for murder, and a secret is revealed in the process that changes her life forever. The writing in this comic is wonderful, and it feels pretty authenetic. I could imagine these characters at /my local police station as easily as I could imagine them arresting the Mad Hatter or Poison Ivy. This comic really isn't about superheroes of supervillains, though. I highly recommend this book to any Batman fans, but don't expect to see him in the series very often, if ever. The police officers are the stars, heh. Captain America #1-6: The series was relaunched after 9/11 under the "Marvel Knights" line. This means that the comic is intended for mature readers, and that Captain America gets to be a lot more relevant than he has ever been before. This is the modern take on Captain America's original concept: killing a lot of Nazis, only now he takes on the threat of terror. The storyline is very PC, and it makes extra care that it isn't going to offend any reeaders of Middle-Eastern descent. Captain America makes it clear that he's fighting for an ideal, and there are no clear-cut good guys or bad guys anymore. Times have changed, but Captrain America is basically unchanged. The artwork is beautiful. It isn't as detailed as Ultimates but it looks great. The writing feels a little cliche'd when they talk about terror and patriotism, but that's only because those topics have been covered so many times after 9/11. I'm not too far behind with this series, since they are only on issue #15, so i'm definitely going to catch up on this series. I have become a huge fan of Captain America because of Ultimates, and this only makes me like the character more. -

"Why do you look so happy General Kamiya?" I said,"Are you finally retiring or something?" He glared, but any feelings of anger that he had was quickly washed over by joy. "I'm so proud of you pilots. It's not everyday that a group of rookies can pilot a Gundam with so much grace and skill like you did out there." I should have been happy, but I wasn't. The mission was accomplished, and we had won. But things still didn't feel any better. If these people expected us to fight other Moile Suits before we had finished training, I wondered what type of missions they had planned for us once training was complete. The woman with dark hair showed up again, and began explaining more information about the Mobile Suit attack. Maybe it was the lack of sleep, or the adrenaline that I built up from the battle, but I didn;t bother to listen to her. The General seemed quite captivated by her speech, though. Military men seem to find women with large breats very captivating; not that I would have any experience with that, of course. It was later that night when I finally got a chance to sit down and talk to the other pilots. There were only four of us, but I felt like nobody was paying enough attention to me. Noyade and the others just seemed to shrug off anything I said, and quickly move onto the next statement. We weren't a team, and a group of individuals stood no chance against an army.
Originally posted by Fiasco Oh my word, that pisses me off to the ends of the Earth, it's AGAINST the bible to be homosexual or take parts in any homosexuality.
Actually, from my knowledge it is only a sin to partake in homosexual acts; there is nothing sinful about being a homosexual. I read an interesting article in Time magazine about several gay priests who were getting a lot of criticiscm from members of the church. They all lived lives of celibacy, but people still didn't want them to preach because they were "evil." I'm paraphrasing Dan when I say this (heh) but everyone sins. The thing about Christianity is that Jesus died to save everyone from their sins. Fiasco, your sins of prejudice are no better than anything that I could ever possibly do.
And the reason why I don't like two guys kissing is cause I'm not gay...Plus the 2 girls can normally kiss better and make it look NIIICE...Hehe.
What gives you the idea that Women kiss better than Men? And looking "NIIICE" is strictly a matter of opinion. I don't go around calling you an *** and touting it as fact (which it is, coincidentally.) So yeah, I have no intention of posting in these types of threads anymore. This is the most ignorant and hateful thread that I have seen on OB in a long time. There is no discussion here; it's just a shouting match between bigots and everone else. As a general rule to everyone: know what you are talking about before you post. -Shy
