5. The four of us walked into the locker rooms, but soon the female pilot had left to get dressed on her own. Those left waited in line to get our lockers while carefully examining one another. We had not been formally introduced yet, so I really only knew them as "the other pilots." It might have been easier for me if things hadn't gotten so personal later on, sometimes I wish that they had simply remained "the other pilots." There was an awkwardness between us; we knew that we should become friends, but everyone was afraid of saying the first words. After checking in with the locker manager I received a combination lock and my assigned locker "17-B." Upon seeing my locker number I smiled, that was the address of my original home, with my parents. One of the other pilots, blonde hair and blue eyes, walked up to the locker next to me and started undressing. Underneath his dark shirt was a muscular frame, obviously he was athletic. My parents were scientists, and they trained me to follow in their footsteps. Slightly embarassed, I turned my back to him and changed, afraid of revealing my average physique. I was tall, with dark hair and even darker eyes. This blonde kid was noticably a few years younger than me; in fact, I was the oldest person in the group. "Hey," he said, "What's that mark on your back?" I paused for a second, and then realized he was talking about the burn marks on my left shoulder blade. I sighed. "It's kind of personal," I replied. "No, I completely understand." He said, slightly embarassed. There was an awkward pause in the conversation. Slowly I turned to him. "You see, my parents were scientists. I don't know the whole story, but they were developing a new type of energy when something went wrong." He nodded, "There was an explosion, and it nearly destroyed everything within a mile radius, including my school. There was a fire, and I got caught up in it." "That's terrible," He said, "I'm really sorry." "Thanks." We shared a smile and He outstretched his hand towards me, "I'm Noyade Tre'Vista." We shook hands. "I'm Frank Baum, it's nice to meet you." Our guide announced that we needed to hurry if we wanted to see the est of the base, so we quickly got into our uniforms. The pants on mine were a little.. constricting, so I was only able to walk in very short steps. Noyade asked me if something was wrong with my legs, but I assured him that the only problem was with the uniform. The next stop on our tour was the airstrip, where several transport planes were preparing for takeoff. The girl, I think she called herself "Joe" was really excited to see all of the aircraft. My reaction was less than enthusiastic, but after seeing part of their RnD department I became much more interested in the tour. Science is a passion of mine, so I couldn't hide my excitement of seeing the new projects that they were up to. After exciting the RnD department an older man in a uniform appraoched us. He was bald, and his uniform was covered with medals. Over the several dozen stars on the left shirt pocket was a nametag, "Kamiya." Our guide dropped his papers and saluted the man immediately, while the rest of us followed suit, afraid of getting disciplined. "Hello General," Our guide shouted, still saluting. "Drop the formalities, son, we don't want to scare away my recruits with all of these formalities." General Kamiya said. To say the least, the rest of us were impressed. This was General Kamiya, the man who operated the entire base. Through our various briefings we had learned a great deal about the man; if anyone could turn us into mobile suit pilots it was him.

 7. Tonight I'm going to a family BBQ, which should be mildly entertaining/ Big family BBQ's are all the same to me, bleh. Anyway, tomorrow I'm going to Anime Expo and meeting Juu. I'm very excited about that, heh. -Shy

 10. I was thinking that we could split up the Otaku Anime forums into two categories: Otaku Anime and Junior Otaku Anime. This would be done for two main reasons.

Seven forums is a lot to manage, and it would be easier for the Category Mod *cough* to moderate half as many forums.
To protect impressionable youth from the mature discussions such as "Sexiest Anime Character" that might arise.
Conversely, the original Otaku Anime could focus more serious discussion rather than the favorites topics that younger members love to make.
Basically any anime that is generally geared for members 13 years old and under would be discussed in Junior Otaku Anime. Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon are two of our most popular forums, but they obviously skew a much different audience than that of .hack//SIGN or Cowboy Bebop. Here is what I propose for the forums in each category.

Otaku Anime: Anime Lounge, .hack//SIGN, Evangelion, Gundam, Yu Yu Hakusho
Junior Otaku Anime: Junior Anime Lounge, Dragonball, Yu-Gi-Oh, Digimon
Junior Otaku Anime would be a little less strict than Otaku Anime, since the members who viist it would obviously be less mature. We can't hold 13 year olds up to the same standards as 25 year olds, and that has always been a problem we faced when punishing members. So yeah, if you want to write sillier stuff then post in Junior Otaku Anime, and if you want to have mature discussions about mature anime stay in Otaku Anime. Thanks, -Shy
 11. Premature births can be dangerous sometimes, but I'm really happy to hear that both of them are doing fine. I can't wait to see some pictures, heh. -Shy
 12. Okay folks, it looks like tomorrow is the big day. Yoshi and I will be attending the convention tomorrow, so I hope that some other OB-ers are attending. Juu and I will be anging out together on Saturday, so if anyone plans on attending during that day please PM me and we'll try to set up a meeting of some sort. This is going to be a lot of fun. -Shy
 13. I love the Fantastic Four, and I think that your friend did an excellent job. I especially love that he chose to do FF rather than something more popular, like X-Men or Spider-Man. People just don't appreciate the classics anymore... -Shy
 14.
Originally posted by DeathBug I didn't read Ultimate War, because IMO, the more characters Miller uses, the less developed they are. So including the X-Men, the Ultimates *and* the Brotherhood (Toad's my favorite) would ensure that I probably wouldn't like the story. When you consider that Bendis writes two issues of Ultimate Spider-Man every month, and Bagley's drawn every issue, it really makes you wonder why the Ultimates doesn't come out on time. It's almost a quarterly book. At least in the past, quarterly books were double sized, but I just don't find myself willing to wait two and a half months for a 22-page story, especially when it's just part of a larger arc anyway. I'll pick up the paperback if I'm interested.
It's true that there is less character development in Ultimate War than one might want, but the main focus of the story is action. Issue four is my favorite, since it is almost entirely devoted to action. I only recently started reading Ultimates, so the long waits between issues have not bothered me. Issue 11 comes out in a few weeks, so it isn't too bad. Right now I am just trying to catch up with the Ultimate universe; there is a lot of Spider-Man and X-Men that I want to read. Out of curiosity, what comics do you like reading DeathBug? Ben: That is Iron Man and Colossus. -Shy
 15. I don't really know which one I would rather be. Each have their own advantages, and it seems like I'm never happy with the status I have. As a mod, it gets frustrating to deal with so much spam, but it is worse to be a member and have no control over what other members do. I don't post as often as I would like, because a good deal of my time goes into moderating. Oh, and banning members is a lot of fun. It's great. -Shy

 17. Name: Frank Baum Age: 20 Alliance: E.S.N General Bios: Born on Earth in a military researcg and development installation, Frank grew up with a love of science and natural curiosity. Both of his parents were always busy working on classified projects, so Frank ended up becoming very self reliant and independent. Later in his teens the government began recruiting test pilots for his parent's secret project, and he joined, hoping to make his parents proud. It was revealed that they had secretly been working on a new form of energy to help fuel a powerful fleet of mobile suits. During a routine test flight one of the new mobile suits became unstable from the huge amount of energy inside, and it errupted. Everyone on the base was killed, except for Frank who was inside the protective armor of his mobile suit at the time. This traumatized him greatly, and turned him into a much more reserved person. The E.S.N. quikly came looking for survivors, and after discovering that Frank was the only one they recruited him a special shadow project. Mech description: Blade Gundam- A close range gundam that has an array of hand-to-hand combat weapons varying from steel daggers like those of the G-5 Strike Gundam to several beam sabers. It also has a powerful array of firepower, including several missile launchers. Mech Design: Very similar to the design of the original Heavy Arms. Chest pockets open up to launnch missiles, and all of the hand-to-hand weaponry are contained within the arm of the suit. It is colored black and green in an attempt to give it a certain amount of camoflogue. (sp?)
 18.
Originally posted by DeathBug Ultimate X-Men had the coolest opening arc ever, but faltered a bit after that. After "Return to Weapon X," I stopped reading. I might have continued if Nightcrawler had joined the cast.
I really enjoy Ultimate X-Men. Tony (Semjaza) and I were talking about it today, and even though it isn't as good as Ultimates I think it is a lot of fun. The :Return to Weapon X" arc was pretty bad, but it did have some interesting twists.
I really did not expect them to turn Beast blue so quickly in Ultimate X-Men's run, that was a poor decision in my opinion.
Another complaint I have is that they are using all of their major characters at once. By issue 12 nearly ever character I enjoyed has been featured in the comic. If they spaced things out a little more the writers might be able to devote more time to the individual characters. Storm and Colossus are both underwritten, and Wolverine is once again taking the spotlight. It wouldn't hurt them to make an "Ultimae Logan" comic and let the X-Men have their own adventures. I think he was in about 12 comics throughout the month of June, which is ridiculous. The current Ultimate X-Men story-arc seems exciting, and I can't wait to see what other characters are brought into the fray.
My fave Ultimate title is, of course, Ultimate Spider-Man. Volume six, "Venom", blew me away.
I haven't had a chance to read the Ultimate Venom arc, but I did read the first issue with Eddie Brock (I odn't know the number) and found it to be good. I liked how they changed around his character a bit to make his story much more relatable to Peter's.
So...anyone looking forward to "Ultimate Six", featuring the Ultimate Sinister Six and a spidey/Ultimates crossover?
I know very little about the Ultimate Six, but I think that it has a lot to live up to. Ultimate War is one of my favorigte mini-series, and it perfectly captured the Ultimates and X-Men. Of course, there is a little continuity problem with Ultimates unless they manage to clear up this story-arc by the Fall. Somehow I doubt this since they have a terrible reputation of getting new issues out late. Creating a new continuity from scratch is hard, and it is even more difficult since it is impossible for a character to be in two places at once. More fun art. 19. I think that I act pretty mature. In random OB chats people are always surprised to find out that I'm 18, but that's just the way I am. I know people my age who act very immaturely, some are even here on the boards... -Shy
 20. There really wasn't anything wrong with your behavior, Hataki Vash. Playing mod isn't a serious problem, but it does get a little frustrating for the actual mods. They try their best to be on top of things, and 10 posts that say "This thread needs to be closed," are spam in their own right. Anyway, I'll be sad to see you go. But these sorts of topics are not allowed, which you probably knew. There's some irony in this, oh well... -Shy
 21.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel I like Bruce Banner, but I am very unfamiliar with his character in general. He seems far more reserved than I expected, but there is an obvious personality problem in addition to his whole Hulk thing. I was surprised by how callous Betty is towards him.
I find Bruce Banner to be pretty annoying in Ultimates. His character hasn't really been explored yet, so right now he just feels like a random guest star or something. His relationship (or lack thereof) with Betty is pretty interesting, I'm surprised that she would even remotely consider talking to him after the Hulk incident. Regardless of name dropping "Hulk want Freddie Prinze Jr!" is a funny line.
Giant Man and Wasp I am still unsure about. However, the fact that Wasp is a mutant seems like it will be a large point later on... especially for Captain America.
Wasp and Captain America have a strange sort of chemistry, and it makes things between her and Giant-Man exciting. The fact that Wasp is a mutant is pretty irrelevant at this point, but Ultimate War goes into more detail about that. For the record, I think that Ultimate War takes place after the fourth trade paperback of Ultimate X-Men (issue 24 or something like that) and the 8th and 9th issue of Ultimates.
Giant-Man's absence is explained in Ultimates around that point
in case you were wondering. Iron Man's helmet reminds me of a duck for some reason, heh. But Tony Stark is amusing, and he is the most human member on the team. Everyone else is a god or a super-solder or a brilliant scientist, while more or less he is just a normal guy. Captain America is cool. I love how he is unfamiliar with the world around him, and can't adjust completely. His combat techniques and powers are timeless, but he doesn't have a clue about anything else. -Shy
 22. Hands down, this series has some of the best artwork ever created for the medium. The sheer variety of the art is amazing in it's own right. There is a huge level of detail and realism in the artwork. It is like seeing photographs of the characters, or soemthing. The covers in particular are wonderful. I would do love to have poster-sized versions of them scattered across my bedroom walls.
There is a scene between the Pyms that was somewhat strange to read, involving basically what amounts to pretty severe physical abuse. As weird as it was, it was somehow believable. The art and writing just came together and made something goofy actually seem serious and it worked. I'm still surprised about that.
Oh yeah. The title for issue #6, Giant-Man vs. Wasp is really cliche, but Millar probably did that on purpose. He is changing what people might expect from comics. The writing keeps everything very interesting, and sometimes the most important moment in an issue might be a simple exchange of dialogue rather than an epic battle. The characters are really diverse and entertaining. Sometimes "team comics" tend to overdevelop one character while ignoring the others, but Ultimates does a good job at giving everyone their fair share of the spotlight. Thor and Iron Man still haven't had a chance to show off their full potential yet, but hopefully that will happen in later issues or if they get their own series someday. It is a very difficult decision, but my favorite character in Ultimates is probably Thor, just because of the way they changed his character from the original version. They make him very modern, and almost believable. I love that Millar can turn a god into a laidback motivational speaker, it's pretty amusing. GO READ ULTIMATES NOW! -Shy
