1.
Originally posted by GinnyLyn I guess the real question I want to ask is, why do you want to see SquareEnix put a same-sex relationship into their games? As both James and I pointed out, media in general (games, movies, tv, etc.) have not done the best job in portraying life accurately.
Maybe they want to see a minority-group get equal treatment in video games, especially since gays and lesbians make up a fairly-large percentage of video gamers. It is just the same as demanding that Square-Enix put more of a specific minority in their games.
So, without sounding spiteful (and if you think I am, then you might want to check your maturity level on this subject .:smirk:.), why? Is it because you wish to see SquareEnix support same sex relations, or is it because you are curious about them and hope to have some questions answered?
Why can't a straight person want to see more diverse characters and storylines in the games they play? According to that statement, anyone who supports homosexuality might possibly be a homosexual. This is a very immature "Us vs. Them" philosophy, Ginny. I support women's rights, but do I have to worry about suddenly becoming a woman?
Perhaps you want to see a game that shows tolerance as a theme? It's been done. Done well, done badly, but it's been done.
And haven't there been a million different games which feature a "Good vs. Evil" theme? Just because a concept has been explored before does not mean that it should never be looked at again.
My mom and I had a long talk last night about this subject. We both agreed that it is ridiculous that people think that homosexuality is a much worse sin that, say, lying. In my belief, it's not. And if you can just hold on a moment for my point (I'm not out to offend anyone, just make a point here), then I would just say that if I wanted a game that focused around a pathelogical liar, it, quite frankly, wouldn't be done any better.
But Final Fantasy games are full of "sins." There are thieves, murderers, prostitutes, and witches. How can it be acceptable for a game to include black magic, and not homosexuality? This is a completely biased double-standard. -Shy
 2.
Originally posted by pbfrontmanvdp True being gay or not doesnt have an affect on being a good singer or not, but i think it does for an American Idol. I mean im not exacly sure if he's gay or not and from the assumption of a lot of people that ive talked too or heard about the subject, i just dont think it would look good to have him as an American Idol. Sry i know some people would not agree with me, but i would just rather have Ruben or Kimberly win because i think they would make a better American idol. And even if Clay does or doesnt win, its not going to matter cause hes going to go places no matter what because of his talent.
You make it sound like Ruben and Kimberly hetereosexuality is somehow preventing them from winning the competition. Odd. Anyway, I find Clay to be incredibly annoying. He always does these strange facial expressions, and seems to be an extremely phony and superficial person. On last week's show he visited a hospital for the mentally impaired to "help out," and attended a huge family BBQ with about 100 people. It seems like he does these sorts of things to make people like him more, while Ruben is much more down-to-Earth and relatable. As far as singing ability goes, I think that Ruben is more talented and has more potential to become a mainstream music star. Clay is way too flamboyant to ever become more than a Pop star. Ruben really has the potential to become a major music star. I hope thta he wins. -Shy

 6. I am graduating from high school in about four weeks. The thing that bothers me most about graduation is that I will never get to see certain people again. My better friends I wll stay in contact with (or at least try to) but the random people in my classes, who I have only gotten to know this year, will completely disappear. But still, I can't wait to graduate. Class of '03, yea! ^_^" -Shy

 8. We can't lose the world until we lose ourselves. And if we lose ourselves, then what difference does it make? To consume is to live. To consume is to destroy. Life and death. Nothing can be created until something else is lost. What did we lose for my existance? What will we gain from my loss? -Shy
 9.
Originally posted by Hikaru Ichijyo Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
..and looking it up in the dictionary is the other half, heh. I amuse myself so much sometimes... :p -Shy
 10.
Originally posted by Manic Would I team up with other OB members? Yep! We could all join forces and call ourselves The Otaku Friends!
Heh, I love Super Friends references. Lady M said this earlier, but I would also want Telekenisis. The amount of things that could be done with it is mind-boggling. Since all of the "mental powers" traditionally require a great deal of control, this is a power that I would have to train with. If a situtation arode where I could help someone with my powers then I would, but it doesn't seem logical for me to wander around town looking for crime. The leather costumes might be cool though. -Shy
 11. Messanger - It doesn't make any sense. Messangers deliver MESSAGES, not MESSANGES. Argh, it just doesn't make any sense. I actually know what Ethereal means. You see, "Ether" was one of the five elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Ether) that was believed to have created everything on earth. Ancient alchemists once thought that all matter was made by a combination of these five elements. Ether was thought of as a spiritual element, and thus the spiritual plane is also known as the ethereal plane. You see, I had to do a research paper about alchemy. ^_^" -Shy
 12. Thank you for being so concerned about spam and flaming MillieFan, you are one of the best "newbies" we have had in a long time. Keep up the good work heh. This thread is closed. -Shy
 13. No, I doubt that any Yaoi was happening in that episode, and it seemed like both of them were just tremendously drunk. I have never been drunk before (silly ol' pure Shy,) but it seems like drunk people on television are willing to sleep with the first person they see, regardless of their gender. This is done for comedy relief, rather than romance. I have also heard that sexual encouters between close friends are not too uncommon in Japan. I point to the Sailor Uranus/Neptune relationship as something that many people to be a close friendship cemented with casual sex. In the Manga, Uranus and Neptune have a blantantly sexual relationship, but their sexuality in the Anime is very controversial. Anyway, I don't think that Vash is gay. Knives might be, though. He seems to be a little too obsessed with Vash, if you know what I mean. -Shy
 14. These forums has grown in popularity recently, and as a result several threads have been created to help clarify the rules. I feel that having one rules thread is enough, so this is being made as the primary rules thread for all Anime Forums. [note: These have been paraphrased from previous rules threads, written by many other hard working moderators] 1. Any pics strictly must be in the Artwork Forum, except in appropriate circumstances. This also goes for fanfics in the Stories section. Similarly, Anime RPGs and games must be posted in the specific ?Otaku Arena? forum, except in appropriate circumstances. These circumstances are chosen by OtakuBoards Staff, and not by members. 2. Double-posting is becoming a serious problem, and there is no excuse for it. Any double, triple, or quadruple posts will be deleted instantly, no questions asked. 3. If you have multiple questions regarding an anime, please put them in the same topic rather than create 5 different threads. Everyone is more than willing to use their knowledge to help you, as long as you don?t clutter up the forums by doing so. 4. Don?t ask dumb questions. Nobody knows if Goku is the cutest Saiyan, and why should anyone care if Gallantmon is more powerful than Lilymon? It's a matter of opinion and these types of questions end up with simple and brief responses (a.k.a. SPAM), so don?t bother posting them because they will be deleted. 5. Since many of the members of the anime forums tend to be younger than those in others it is especially important that you double-check every post for spelling and clarity. Nobody can answer your questions if they do not understand them. This is especially annoying if you do it on purpose, like I've seen some people do. Some colloquialisms are allowed, like 'gonna', but most chat room and text speak is inappropriate on a Forum and sometimes difficult to change back to normal English. 6. Don't point out other people's mistakes, especially newbies. This is called 'playing Mod', and it's not your job. The post will also be counted as SPAM along with the offending post, and will be edited if it also makes a valid point, or simply deleted. 7. Please check a forum's sticky topics before posting a thread of your own. Fic Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh deck ratings and advice, Dragonball AF, and Cartoon Network line-ups are all examples of things that have been covered in sticky threads. 8. Flaming, or bashing, is strictly prohibited. Creating a thread such as "I hate Cartoon Network," is ridiculous, and no good discussion can come from it. Stating your opinion is one thing, but trying to emphasize that opinion with exclamation points, poor spelling and an abundance of smileys is against the rules. 9. Favorites threads are generally not allowed, since they lead to short and pointless posts. However, some favorites threads are acceptable if they are well-written and can generate some discussion. The individual moderator decides which threads are, and are not acceptable. 10. Threads about individual video games go in the gaming forum. If a thread is created about an anime-based game then it needs to go in it's apprioriate gaming forum. More general threads such as "The Evolution of Video Games and Anime," might be allowed in Anime Lounge, depending on the judgement of the individual moderator. 11. Links to commercial websites are not allowed under no circumstances. Links to other anime websites are allowed if the site does not hold any information about anime that theotaku.com does not feature. Posting a link to a competing Dragonball Z site would be against the rules. Threads such as "Where are some good Ranma 1/2 sites?" are not allowed and will be deleted immediately. 12. When making threads in Anime Lounge, be sure to include the name of the series you are talking about in the title. (Example: "Ranma 1/2 - Ryoga Question.) 13. Feel free to PM an anime moderator if you have a question regarding any of these rules. Thank you for reading the rules. :) -Shy
