I agree, the "risque" parts of DBZ do not contribute to the story in any way. But many of these scenes feature some of the "weaker" characters, which creates a more fleshed out story. And I think that the plot is just as boring for viewers who do understand the plot as it is for viewers who do not. Those who understand the plot realize how stupid and repetetive it is. And I think that 4th graders would understand the subtle messages and lessons in Bowboy Bebop, they would naturally absorb them without realizing that they had. Kids are smarter than they look, they are very fast learners.

You have to feel sorry for Rei, if she has any emotions at all (which I still think she doesn't) she must feel completely meaningless. If she dies, there would just be another one to replace her, and nobody would ever notice she was gone. Stuff like that just makes me sad, I get too involved with my anime sometimes, especially with something as deep as EVA. Yeah I saw that episode, that was so freaky. But I have a question, who
killed Ritsuko's mother? Was it Commander Ikari, or did she kill herself... or what? In any case I remember the sound of a gun being fired.
I will write my theories later on tonight, I have too much work to do right now. School is almost out, finals and stuff.... ugh.

I don't think Rei could have been capable of emotions. It is hard to explain, but I never "felt" like she was ever hiding feelings from anyone. Rei was completely honest to herself, she was showing as much emotion as she possibly could. I have a few theories about Kaworu, but they are all too weird, and I don't want to spend all day explaining them to you.

"Miyu" is such a sad and depressing show. I saw the first volume (they had it at the video store, isn't that cool?) and it really made me unhappy. I had never seen a show where there are more depressed characters than happy and upbeat ones. In most shows, even if the main character is depressed they usually have some funny background characters to cheer things up a bit. Also the show seemed a little tooo much like Sailor Moon in the whole "monster of the week" sense. It would be better if it's storyline were more epic rather than repeating themselves every episode. I could be wrong, the show might get better after the first volume.

Kaworu is not the male version of Rei. In the brief episode he was on the show he put out infinitely more emotion than Rei ever did. Because of the fact that Rei doesn't have a soul (or at least that is what I picked up from the show) she isn't capable of having any true emotions, she can only feel the natural reactions her body has, making her almost like an animal. Kaworu could laugh, and smile, and love, which makes him much more real and substantial than Rei.

I would be much more worried about a child who grows up thinking that Goku is a hero than someone who thinks that Spike is. Spike's character constantly suffers the consequences of the actions he takes, and he is constantly haunted by the mistakes he had made in the past. Anyone who has Spike as a role model will realize that everything they do has a consequence. Goku on the other hand is considered to be a god in the DBZ universe, he is the almighty, all powerful, and completely stupid hero of the show. Goku charges straight into a fight, and he is killed twice on the show. What kind of message are you sending to children when you show that you can just come back from the dead whenever you want?

Kaworu and Shinji? I did not enjoy the Kaworu character at all, I thought that entire episode was weird. I don't really think that Shinji loved Kaworu (if that was what you were trying to say, I'm not sure) but I do think that he was the first person in Shinji's life that he could connect to on a deeper emotional level.
Rei was such a sad character, and I still have so many questions about her. Rei had a crush on Shinji, that is for certain.

Hello everyone, this is your friendly neighborhood Outlaw Star Editor, Shyguy with an important question from theotaku.com. I have almost fully completed my character bios for and I was wondering what other types of sections you would liike to see added to Outlaw Star? I have a few ideas myself, I will list them off for you guys: 1) Descriptions for planets and locations in the Outlaw Star universe. 2) Information on the Outlaw Star spin-off series "Angel Links." 3) Episode reviews and rants provided by yours truly. 4) Descriptions of Outlaw Star vehicles and technology. These are just some of my ideas, if you have any of your own please feel free to suggest them here. -Shy

Me... addicted? I am not currently addicted to the net, I don't really have the time to. School is such a pain, finals are next week so I have to prepare for those as well. It is more of a responsiblity thing, I have a lot going on at the otaku so naturally it cuts into my free time online (including my time at the boards.) Thankfully school ends in a week, so I once again be a full time otaku addict like I was in V4.

I'm sure the praise of Ben's special someone would be much more appreciated than yours Cera. :whoops: I like the poem, and I think you should tell the girl you like about your feelings for her. It is better to be honest in expressing your feelings towards people than to keep them bottled up inside. Take my word for it!

Congratulations on your graduation Babygirl, I am very happy for you. My school gets out on the 13th, which will put an end to my horrible Junior year. I can't wait for it to end, then I can come back to otaku as a full time poster. :)

*secretly taking notes* So that's how to win a girl, got it. And how is Toji's name spelled? In the manga it is "Toji" but online many people say it is "Touji." Spelling will always be one of my pet peeves, I hate poor spelling but I am such a lousy typist that I end up making a lot of mistakes. The class rep (don't know her name either) and Toji relationship is an interesting. I am so suprised that he wasn't able to figure out how much she cared for him, but at the same time I think he had feelings for her as well. Misato deserves someone a million times better than Kaji, but the show doesn't give any other possible men for Misato to date (unless she wants to go out with Commander Ikari or something, I shudder at the thought.) Since we seem to talk about unhappy relationships, let's change things a bit and talk about some happy ones. Who is your favorite couple on the show?
-
Right, Chronicles is sort of a remake of the original series. It is supposed to take place a few years after the original, but there are too many things that contradict eachother. Just pretend they are two unrelated series and it will be more enjoyable. Everything about the show is so much better the second time around, I think you would like it.
-
Pirotess was cool, but she wasn't in either of the Lodoss series enough. The second RoLW "Chronicles of the Heroic Knight" is much better than the first. It is about twice as long and they have a better chance to explore the characters more. Except some of the characters who are in the second chapter of "Chronicles" are pretty darn annoying, especially Spark... ugh. I can understand why some people would fall in love with a personality, but I will never understand how someone can become physically attracted to them. Even if I had HBO or Cinemax I wouldn't watch it, I am very "anti-hantai." Thank you for this quality conversation. :)

I believe the name of the episode was "Mushroom Samba."

Misato and Shinji. what a terrible couple. Misato is like a sister to Shinji, and having her try to be anymore than that is just wrong. I didn't think that Kaji and Misato made a very good couple either, she was too good for him.
-
I dunno, I liked RoLW, the story was very epic... the problem was that the characters weren't explored deeply enough. That is usually one of the largest complaints I have with all anime series, I want to know everything about all of the characters. And anime girls are pretty, even if they aren't attractive. I don't find animated characters to be sexy, there is something about wanting to have sex with a drawing that I find terribly, terribly wrong. People just fall in love with the voices, not the characters, because that is the only real thing about them.

Shinji reminds me of myself (except I'm much better looking ;)) and I can't stand being around people who are extremely loud and outgoing. That is the one reason I could see Asuka and Shinji becoming a couple. One of the funniest moments on the show is when
Asuka kisses Shinji for no other reason than she is bored. I was laughing so hard when Shinji was suffocating. When Shinji had to destroy Toji's EVA I was so sad. I knew that Toji was the pilot, but until the last possible moment I was crossing my fingers and hoping that it was someone else. I completely understand why Shinji went nuts after finding out who the pilot was,
that has to be one of the saddest moments in the show.

I am always so bad with names too, I was on the last volume of Record of Lodoss Wars before I figured out the names of the main characters. Gay Guy: Aburatsubo (The first time I watched the show I thought he was a girl, *sighs*) Ugly Guy: Takeo Red Haired Girl: Sai Black Haired Girl: Nanaka Grey Haired Girl: Akane

Nadiesco, I've never seen it. But if it's cutesy you want, I've got the perfect show for you, Magic User's Club! It is this great OAV series about a bunch of high school students who spend just as much time in romantic conflicts as they do trying to save the world. It is really funny too, much better than Tenchi or other series like that.
-
Shinki and Auka... a couple?! I don't think they would make a very happy couple. She is too brash, Shinji would probably go nuts with her as a girlfriend. Asuka would get along much better with someone who could defend themselves to her criticism, like Toji. I am probably the only person on Earth who thinks they would be a good couple.

I bought the entire series in the NGE Perfect collection, it has to be one of the few large purchases I do not regret. Everything about the show is just amazing, except for the english dub. Sometimes I wonder if they pick bad voice actors on purpose.
-
I have the first three volumes of the Evangelion manga, and oddly enough I bought them before I had ever seen the series. (I got to watch the series for the first time this weekend... wow.) Asuka is a great character, but not enough detail goes into exploring her past in the series. That is the problem with such short anime series, you always end up wanting more.
Originally posted by Rick Hunter Wonder if that anime company owes me royalities for unlawfully writting my life story in an anime!-_- ;)
*hits Rick on the head with his umbrella* You need to cheer up ol' sport. I am sure it isn't based off of your love life, some people think the whole world revolves around them. :p I love the Tokyo Pop stuff, and I would read SMILE more if it were not for the strange looks I get when I buy it. The people at Suncoast Video are extremely rude. I wouldn't shop there if it weren't for the fact that they have a good selection of titles.
