This somehow reminds me of what happened when I had one of my friends over... We didn't have anything to do, so I suggested that we watch one of my anime tapes. He was just getting into DBZ so he thought that all anime featured buff guys throwing eachother into rocks. We started watching "Vampire Princess Miyu" (yawn) and he couldn't get over the fact that we were watching it in Japanese. But when it was over he still asked if we could watch more of it. He was my one friend in real life who I could talk to about anime, and then he moved out of town a few months later! I don't even bother watching subtitled anime with my current set of friends, they can't handle it. Can someone please explain to me what is so hard about watching a subtitled movie? The words at the bottom of the screen do not pass very quickly, is the English speaking world illiterate or something? *runs off to artwork forum*
Originally posted by Queen Asuka And by the way Rick Hunter, thanks for the compliment on my banner. Altron Gundam made it for me a while back. And yours is cute, too, with all the Lisa/Rick pictures, although I myself am a Minmay fan. ;)
Ugh, I can't stand Minmay. I have not found many people in my area who are also a fan of anime. Two of my friends enjoy watching the Toonami stuff, but they seem to be very inarticulate about the series they watch.
"When Spike hit that guy in the face, it was cool."
*sighs* If it weren't for the internet, I doubt I would have become such a fan as I am. One of the best parts about anime is that you can discuss it with other people and hear their opinions. BTW: Your artwork is wonderful QA :)

If I am correct TIT recently aired on Toonami at 5:00. I have already seen the series a few times, so I didn't watch it again. Tenchi is not on the fall schedule for Toonami, expect it to come back on during the winter at the earliest.

Two of the main characters, Valeria and Duuz come from an episode of Outlaw Star (episode 19 "Law and Lawlessness") Beyond that there is hardly any connection between the shows. Both of them deal with life in the frontier of space, but they are very different and try to reach dofferent audiences.
Originally posted by Rick Hunter The thing that really bothers me the most about this dbz craze is that the show is just so old, DB, DBZ, and DBGT are practicially 12-14 years old already in Japan! Whenever someone tells me I can't wait to see the "new" dbz episodes I just roll my eyes like so! Its about time these psuedo anime fans that are still hung up on an anime series that is 12 years old, and lacking plot, mature and watch better anime series out there! I'm not saying I hate dbz but to me its really old news! ;)
But at the same time everyone needs to remember that this is one of the few anime shows that have hit the mainstream. If American kids were exposed to an anime series about someone who fights villains with a Q-Tip it would still manage to be extremely popular. I am saying that DBZ is a bad show, but it doesn't hold a candle to some of the other series out there. Just remember that you are more lucky to be exposed to so much anime, while others are stuck with crap like Hamtaro.
Originally posted by Rick Hunter Oh sorry guys about that, last I heard they pushed back the Knocking on Heaven's Door movie, due to dvd authoring issues, currently, the official word is sometime in June but I doubt this at the latest I would say August! But will see, well let me look for some more info on this and I will keep you updated!;)
Not to correct you Mr. Hunter, but a recent article in "Wizard" magazine says that "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" could possibly make it onto the big screen in a limited run. Columbia Tri-Star pictures wants to release the movie at just the right time, in order to make tons of money. On the Real Folk Blues boards, some people are estimating it to be released as early as winter. I would love to see the Bebop movie in theaters but once again I must warn everyone that I have not seen any other evidence to support this statement. In other words: Don't get your hopes up.
Originally posted by Queen Asuka It does a little. I don't know if I've ever seen pictures from the Chronicles, though. Hmm...I remember one time they showed RoLW on the Sci Fi channel and I watched it, but then when I recently watched it again on video, the entire series, it didn't bring back any memories or ring any bells. So I'm sort of confused...Grr...I hate it when I get like that...
There are at least three ROLW series that I know of. The original, Chronicles of the Brave Knight (featuring Spark, the most annoying main character ever!) and a third series, which takes place in Ashram's kingdom (it stars some girl with a lion, I have never seen it.) Did they show the entire series on Sci Fi? I don't remember the Sci Fi channel ever showing anime series.. they might have just shown the movie. Or maybe you have the show confused with something else, who knows?

This reminds me of something a spammer known as "Jabberwocky" did on version 2, man those things were funny. Seph, CWB, those are hillarious. You have no idea how hard I laughed at them.

I complete agree with you QA, but some good does come out of anime on american television. Wiithout pokemon there is no way as many shops would carry anime as they do today, and thanks to Gundam Wing many people realized that there is a market for slightly more mature anime. It does bug me that people call themselves "Otakus" when all they have seen is a few episodes of DBZ, but I realize that I was once exactly like them. Over time I was able to watch more and more series, so now I can safely say that I am somewhat educated on the subject of anime. Whenever a DBZ fan tells you that they are an expert on anime, just ask them about some of the series you have watched, and laugh as they struggle to figure out what you are talking about.

Kiki's Delivery Service, I love that darn movie *sniff* I began my interest in anime when I began watching Sailor Moon about 5 years ago, but I had been watching anime shows on tv since Samurai Pizza Cats. I eventually realized that anime was a completely different form of animation than the traditional American stuff I had grown up with. Thanks to Cartoon Network (they are good for something you CN haters!) I was able to watch more anime series, and finally I decided to begin buying anime. My collection has been growing since then, and the number of tapes and DVDs I have seems to double ever year.

(In his dark conference room Aba gets up from the grond and fires at the figure walking around in it. From the bright flashes of light generated by the blaster Aba sees a tall cloaked figure dodge the blasts, pull out and turn on a crimson red lightsaber.) Aba: (Thinking to self) Who is this person? Why are they attacking me? (Aba runs out of the room and into the long corridor leading to his hanger) ???:You will not escape me Senator Used, there is a price on your head! (By pressing a button on his belt Aba opens the doors to the hanger and quickly rushes inside. Aba presses the button again and manages to close the door to the hanger behind him. Aba: Hopefully this will keep him occupied so I can escape. (The bright crimcson lightsaber easily burns a hole through the thick metal door, and it begins slowly moving into a circle. Aba hops into his air speeder and turns on the comlink) Aba: Hello, CSF (Coruscant Security Forces) this is Senator Used of Ithor. A jedi is trying to assinate me. (Aba's air speeder drives off onto the Corusant skyline, soon becoming lost in the sea of other vehicles flying among the skyline. The lightsaber finally burns open a hole big enough for the assasin to enter through, but when it enters the hangar it realizes that it is too late.

I have heard of the series, but I have never seen it. There is a rumor that the show might be shown on Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim" lineup this summer, I don't know if this is true or not.

Congratulations Jamvis, I remember you from the older versions of the boards, I can't believe how quickly this year has gone by...

Note to all members: I think we have become a little too obsessed with our little Otaku world. No other forum on Earth spends this much time posting in history threads, and other stuff along those lines. *cough* Anyway, I would probably work somewhere in the retirement home, where I could hear stories from older members, and help out the senile ones.

(Deep within Aba Useds' Coruscant apartment, the Ithorian senator works deep into the night trying to perfect speech for the coming day's Senate meeting. Aba continues typing on his datapad, while his protocal droid counterpart, 2PX tries to keep him company) Aba: I have to make this speech more effective, I know the other Imperialistic Senators are using this next vote to bring about another dark age in the galaxy. 2PX: Senator Used, it is getting very late out, you need your sleep to debate tomorrow. (Aba stops typing his speech, and gives 2PX a cold stare.) 2PX: I do insist that you get some rest -- (2PX suddenly shuts off, and all of the power in the building shuts off.
1) What fate did V3 suffer? Do you mean V2? I really doubt that could happen again, the staff here does an amazing job at keeping things in order. 2) James would ban you, and then hit you over the head with something heavy. Anyway, back to the original questions..
Originally posted by that guy, I don't remember his name right now... 1: Sephiroth or Transtic Nerv left the boards? they've both been here for as long as anybody can remember, wondering around the boards to keep things intact, why I remember the days when Safer was admin and made TN general discussions moderator now those were the days 2: The Yaoi forum was created, would it be popular? non-existant because people just want to please those that wanted it and so said they wanted it too? I personally would love having the yaoi forum and would visit it quite often, for those who know me know that I've been pretty scarce around the boards 3: If thimoc came back? old time members know exactly who he is 4: if big poppa hump, undoubtedly the most hated member in the history of otaku came back?
1) I remember the days when Seph and Transtic weren't here, but I do admit that everyone here would miss them terribly. The boards would be able to manage without them, no one person is that important here that if they left it would destroy everything. And I am sure that the other Super Mods would do a fine job at filling in the void left by them. 2) I don't think many people would post in a Yaoi forum. The General Anime forum isn't very popular, and adding a subforum would probably just lower its overall activity. 3) What if he is already here? I kind of doubt he is though, I remember reading a post where Transtic said he memorized thimoc's IP address.. so I don't think he could sneak into the boards. And if he returned with the sole purpose of spamming, then he would be banned before he finished writing his second post. 4) I don't know why he is the most hated member. I was away for the summer while he made his mark on the boards. I guess it would all depend on how forgiving the people here are.

(A silent crowd fills the huge arena of the New Republic Senate. Each world's represenatives sit on large, floating platforms which move towards the center of the arena. All eyes are clearly focused on Aba Oosed, the popular senator from Ithor who is completing his speech on species tolerance within the republic.) Aba: ...if we do not learn to overcome the differences between the thousands of species which inhabit this universe, than we can never hope to accomplish true peace. (Aba takes a brief pause from his speech to allow the audience to cheer. He organizes some of his notes, and smiles.) Aba:The true evil in this galaxy cannot be attributed to one man, or a mystical force. It is the responsibility of everyone to work together! (A second platform moves towards the center of the arena. It is the grey haired, human Skan Nailo, a senator from the war-torn planet of Vanjung.) Skan: Your dreams of a tolerant galaxy are idealistic, there is no hope of equality among all the species. We must realize this fact in order to establish political and racial boundries, which will prevent the outbreak of future wars. (Skan looks directly into Aba's eyes. The two of them had been former friends, until the corruption of the senate had taken its toll on Skan. Skan actively promotes the ideas and philosophies of the former empire. He uses this fact to gain popularity among the politically dominant humans, who do not wish to lose the authority they once had over the galaxy.) Aba: You are making the wrong decision if you ally with this man, he will bring the New Republic back to the ways of Palpatine. This is the first step towards the rebirth of an empire! (A high pitched tone echos throughout the arena, and all platforms are moved back to their regular positions.) Announcer: We have reached the end of this meeting, all debates will continue tomorrow afternoon! (Aba leaves his platform and exits the building, followed closely by a pair of Sullustan bodyguards, both carrying large blaster pistols) Bodyguard 1: What will you do for tomorrow's meeting Senator? Aba: I am not exactly sure, but I have to try my best. The fate of the galaxy could rest on the next vote in senate.

The simple idea of Link saving someone other than Zelda intrigues me. I wonder if Zelda will have a part in this game, maybe she will be a playable character. Mario Sunshine, the more I see of this game the less I care about it. I grew up with Mario, and he will always have a special place in my heart (next to the NES) but this game looks odd. I think these current games might be straying too far from the original Mario concept, but it will probably be good anyway. Metroid, I love Metroid. This game needed a huge 3d update, the original game would not work today. I am very excited to play it, it is the game I am loooking forward to the second most (after Zelda GC.) I need a GBA! The idea of a co-op Zelda game is enough to make any Nintendo fanboy drool. Maybe I can permanently "borrow" it from a friend, he he he. Other stuff: I don't care about the new Mario Kart. Kart games are a thing of th past, and Nintendo will need to insert some major extras to make this game worth buying. Mario Party 4 could be awesome if it comes with online play, but I am still not sure about Nintendo's online strategy. I don't see any third-party titles annouced, so I assume they will be reported during E3. I might actually be able to get into E3, considering I live in the area and have some "connections" *cough* Anyway, it looks to be another great year for Nintendo, I was expecting some sort of Yoshi title to be announced (I have no idea why.) Beyond that I am very pleased with the lineup.

Fear my new computer with broadband internet!
Shy replied to Sephiroth's topic in General Discussion
Are we just sitting around and talking about how much we are jealous of Sepiroth for getting a new computer? I wanna join in on the fun too! Grr.. I am jealous of your new computer, but not the internet connection. I have broadband too. Too bad my computer runs incredibly slow. -

In sixth grade I went to an "Offspring" concert. This was before they became popular, and the audience was full of hardcore punk rock and roll fans. It was probably one of the scariest things I have ever experienced, but looking back on it I realize how much fun I was having.
