I love Japanese culture, especially the Edo period.. Tattoi Nobori means "noble banner", a little nod to the koi nobori, a tradition of vertical banners depicting carp used in the Tango no sekku festival.

Sounds like your friends had a good experience, that's really cool. It's so important to take the time to find a good artist, and one that specializes in the style you're looking for. (After all, it's going to be with you for a while! ?_?) I have two so far, and I'm getting two more in about a month... The first one I got is three X's, one on each shoulder and one on my back, between my shoulder blades (I'm straightedge). The second is a large script piece on my belly, says BELOVED surrounded by art nouveau decorative pieces. (Styled after Sailor Jerry's stuff.) The next two pieces I'm getting are both on my back... On the top I'm working outward from the X, putting a half-folded old school shaving razor behind it, stretching from shoulder to shoulder, wrapped in ivy. The second one (oh boy, oh boy!) is a reproduction of Hokusai's masterpiece watercolor, The Great Wave at Kanawaga. I'm so fired up... ?_? My artist is the one guy in my state (and I've been to most of 'em) that I would trust with that piece, because he's as much into Japanese watercolor as I am!

I live waaay down in the south US, so it's not huge.. But as Narius said, it's got a little cult following. There's one pretty decent anime/comic store, and the clerks all know you after the third visit, 'cause hey, who else came in today? ?_?

Hi all! I guess that's pretty much my question: What sites do you use to buy import anime and manga titles? I'm not looking for anything too obscure... On the manga side, stuff like Japanese-language Mugen no Jyuunin, Battle Angel, Akira, etc. For anime, I'd like to get a head start on the next Heat Guy J DVDs, and some pretty mainstream feature-length stuff. I guess that brings up a good question: What would all you otaku guys and gals recommend for a newbie fanboy along the lines of what I've listed? I'm afraid I'm pretty new to this whole scene (~1.5 years) but I'm pretty well addicted now. ?_? TIA, Paul
