  1. Hey thanks guys, keep the info coming if you've got it. I can speak a little japanese, I might actually take a class in it before I go so I can do a little better with my katakana and whatnot. I definitely want to see some of the smaller town stuff too. There's these japanese "bed and breakfast" style places you can stay at (I forget the real name for them right now) which are actually pretty cheap and sound really cool. My plan for touristy stuff is to bring back a sack full of toys and those gashopon (maybe spelled right) figures that come in the vending machines. I'm a bit of an action figure nerd though. There's only so many shrines you can see. This is great though, like 5000 peoples worth of ideas and experience on this message board.
  2. Dragonball is really refreshing after watching too much DBZ. DBZ really lost any sort of originality after the Cell saga in my opinion. They kept the series going but it had no emotional impact whatsoever. Thats a real problem too because the animation is lousy and the real draw in the first place is the characters. So basically I really look forward to the new episodes of Dragonball every day. The stories in between the big fights are fun, and Goku as a kid is really cool. The dub/funimation crew obviously spent more time making it actually funny in the translation. The dialogue in DBZ is just horrible.
  3. Hey folks! Here's the deal...I'm going to Japan next summer for two weeks, most likely Tokyo and Kyoto. I was hoping that I could get some suggestions for places to visit while I'm there. Has anyone been to Japan before or possibly is from Japan? I would love to hear about it from people who have been there or if you've just heard about something cool to visit. I really want to see the Bandai museum, which has crazy stuff in it like a full scale gundam torso. I also think I'm going to go to the hot springs in the north where the monkeys hang out in the water. What do you think?:mrt:
  4. Wow! I really liked the first movie. It was a little less scary than I had hoped for. They went more for the action rather than the creepiness. I still loved it though. The only problem with this new movie though is its now similarities to 28 days later. 28 days was so fantastically good and the scariest movie I have ever seen. RE2 movie is going to look a lot like 28 days later, at least superficially and I'm definitely going to compare the two.
  5. I love that guy (it was contra 1)!! He was actually a little hard on 1player. A couple of years ago me and my friend played Contra all night until we could beat it in a 2-player game without dying once. It was really satisfying when we finally did it. We got to the snow board so many times and died in some silly way and had to reset. That was some hardcore nintendo.

    Johnny Cash

he was really great. His last cover album was really depressing though, I think after his death its going tobe hard to listen to. Cash is just great because he always wrote songs about killing and death back in the days where people were even more conservative than they are now. One of my all time favorites of his was his cover of Rusty cage by Soundgarden.
  7. I know who they are but personally I can't stand them. A little too soft rock, Dave mathews Band for me. I think they are one of the most popular bands that aren't really well known. A big college band. I'd have to give them some credit for that.
  8. I checked out Black rebel motorcycle club and Kings of Leon just recently. I was pretty impressed, both pretty solid CD's. The BRMC new album slows down a little too much at the end though, but not enough to hurt it overall. Thanks for the reccommendations!! Hs anyone ever heard of the band Serafin? The only place I've heard them is on the Madden 2004 soundtrack (weird place to find bands) but I don't think they have a US release at all yet. Anyway they sound really good for the one song I've heard so far. Its a Brittish band, I assume they will release a CD in the states.
  9. I'm going to contribute another one....the fat heartless in Kingdom hearts. It is really very satisfying to destroy those pudgy monsters. I think that square really knows what they're doing. Something about enemies exploding as a pile of coins that made fighting in the game much more addictive. If only my enemies in real life exploded into a pile of coins.....
  10. I know I am not a god to my pet, actually i think my cat thinks that she is my god. She sure doesn't clean up her own litter box or pay for her own food. She also occasionally attacks my head, but I don't know what that means.
  11. I heard about this on the news the other day, and they were all excited about limited use DVD's for rentals. How lazy do you have to be to rent a DVD and not want to return it? The video stores shouldn't want this either because if you return a video then it gets you back in the store. It is such a huge waste of plastic. If they start to sell these regularly, I'm going to start copying DVD's. This is a dumb waste of cool technology.
  12. Obviously sex is a selling point in anime. It is pretty much the same in the US, except we have a lot of strict rules about sexualizing kids. For whatever reason its not as big a deal in Japan. I think it plays to the really repressed and perverted Japanese adult male (old man groping on the subway) who wants to fantasize about young girls. Thankfully most anime aren't too bad, but sometimes you can get away with a lot of stuff with animation that you couldn't with real actors. I also think that in general the women in Japan are much more submissive than here, but thats cultural. I don't know enough to say historically why.
  13. Very very sad it was. The pierrot le fout (butchered) ending was really sad for me also. It is too hard to pick out favorite episodes for me though. There is just too much cool stuff in the show. Even the simplest parts like Ein using the computer are very memorable. Best anime ever!!!!
  14. Oh, I just thought of it but you can enter a name when you start the game that gives you 99 luck at the beginning but also really crappy other stats (most of your hits in the beginning of the game do 1dmg) Its actually really fun, and later in the game you get more powerful than normal playthroughs. I don't remember the code, but you should be able to find it on any cheat site.
  15. Isn't it always kinda sad when really great older bands end up opening up for crappier and more popular bands. (Bad Religion opened for Blink 182) Ugh.... Thanks for the info, I'll check out the bands you mentioned. I'm itching for some new music.
  16. I have to agree with the whole hard to characterize indie as anything specific idea, people just kinda have to know what you're talking about. We did that on the Punk/Avril post too. My problem is when people ask me what kind of music I listen to. What do you guys say when people ask? Back in the Pearl Jam/ Nirvana era I would say Alternative music but that term pretty much fell apart. Indie? Rock and Roll? I utterly have no classification, usually amounts to me spouting off band names that people haven't heard of.
  17. Is the game coming out in Japan only? I haven't heard of it at all. I have read some of the manga but thats about it. I personally am not a big racing game fan, but I own Midnight club 2 and really like it. I like games that aren't simulators, or don't try to be too realistic
  18. TM black is really great. I think its even better since I was excited and inevitably disappointed by 3 and 4 because they ended up being so horrible. The Last boss is annoying though, you basically have to use strategy instead of crazy blowing up stuff mayhem, and it ruins the flavor of the game. Its not that big a deal, I like the game fine enough to put up with driving around in circles around the edge of a building. really the best thing about TM series is the 2player coop modes. Barely any games that come out anymore let 2 players work together. What happened to the classic days of Contra? Anyway I wish there were more 2p games.
  19. It would easily be the simpsons if the last four or so seasons weren't complete garbage, so next in line is GIJOE. The coolest cartoon ever!!! It had great characters, racial diversity, stomping Cobra's and great storylines. The twins Tomax ans Xamot, where they would both get hurt if one got kicked in the stomach (which happened often). GIJOE even stands up with the cartoons of today, the old animation is better than Transformers ARMADA (which i hate)
  20. Hey you left out some of my favorites: Modest Mouse; my fav band of all time even if they signed to a major label. Like Built to Spill but better Jets to Brazil; awesome singer from Jawbreaker but only the first album (orange rhyming dictionary) is worth buying Bright Eyes; wailing teenager on antidepressants Cub Country; maybe more of an alt. country band Really though thats quite a list, any band in particular you'd recommend as I've only heard a few of them.
  21. Are you staying up late? Too much homework? Please elaborate as to why you are getting little sleep.
  22. I think the best way ( I never did it) is to start from the beginning and only buy really essential items throughout the game. Then do both of the tricks you mentioned and hope your patience lasts. If you don't buy anything for the whole game, it should shorten the time you have to spend collecting money. Thats the best I can offer.
  23. I really like amplitude, I played it in the store once and kinda got hooked on it. I bought it, but even though I wouldn't listen to most of the music on there normally I still really like the game. I can't beat the last two songs on normal difficulty though. It gets pretty insane where my brain doesn't quite work fast enough. Has anyone gotten anywhere on the hardest diff? I can't fathom it.
  24. This is what happens when kids don't grow up with GIJOE and get the "Knowing is half the battle" segments after their cartoons. As a bit of extra knowledge, candy will give you a short burst of energy, while an apple will be a longer lasting and healthier source. And Please!!!, never spray-paint your bike in a closed garage with no open windows!!!!!
  25. I'm not really embarassed about it, but when I was about 10, I peed on a dog because it had peed on my front yard. I contributed to the vicious cycle.
