Well. It's been quite a while since we had one of these. Unless I completely missed it. Anyway, I'm bored so here it is, "The token desktop thread". For those of you that don't know to take a screen of your desktop just press the Print Scrn button and paste it in to an image program. Also, save it as a .jpg because almost any other extenstion will make the file too big. Well, here is mine.

What does your family mean to you?+poll
I, Colossus replied to the_fizz's topic in General Discussion
I put Love and Support too. Even though a fair amount of short-lived hate goes around every now and then, for the most part we are a frequently functional family. There is unconditional love at all times, after an arguement I could say "I love you" and get the same thing back. But we still are actually at eachothers throats, it's just something we do to keep from stabbing eachother. I don't get hit, like some of my friends, although my Dad did slap me once. :p I was mad that my friends couldn't crash at the house ( I was 8 ) and I stuck my tongue out at him. Bad move, lol, he ended up making me bite my tongue. But, overall I get all the love and support I need. -
I'm pretty content with what I have, but I tend to ask for a lot on Christmas. It's just my nature. Off the top of my head, I'd say I want these items. Pocket Watch. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (GCN) T3 (DVD) I'll have to wait and see what I get. ^_^
Originally posted by PoisonTongue Considering I never compared MGS2 to any 2nd generation PS2 game, or for that matter, any PS2 game at all, I fail to see how you are able to bring in later games. Considering also, that I played MGS1 until the disc wore out (Literally. It doesn't work anymore.), and my MGS2 disc still works perfectly...should tell you something about where my comparison draws from. I really couldn't care less about what more recent games blew MGS2 out of the water, or what games fans praised more highly. My comparison is to MGS1...the game to which MGS2 is a sequel.
Yes, I realise that. I was stating that most people loved it when it came out, but now they bash away. I was just trying to establish that. For...some...reason. ^_^;
Originally posted by PoisonTongue While MGS2's gameplay may have been very sweet, I still found more thrill from not being able to shoot in first-person--not even having the option to. What's more of a white knuckle experience? Running around in broad daylight and not having to worry about enemies, because you can simply press a button to see them clearly and shoot them at the same time?
I think the first person perspective added postively to the game. What's so bad about being able to see and shoot in the first person view? Because it's easier? It's what Snake (er...Raiden) would have seen in the first place. The FPV also gave you a chance to hold guards up. That was fun, albeit unimportant, but fun anyway. Collecting dogtags added quite a bit of time into the game, if you're into that type of thing.
Originally posted by PoisonTongue You want to talk gameplay? Let's talk gameplay. Did you enjoy being an errand boy in MGS2? Did you enjoy the gameplay of having to sniff out C4 and disarm them? Did you enjoy the gameplay of just firing Stinger missiles at the RAYs? Did you enjoy the gameplay of the (basic) swordfight against Solidus? Did you enjoy the gameplay involved in defeating Fatman? Was there any gameplay involved in defeating Fatman? Oh, defusing C4. What about Vamp? Just running around and shooting, knock him into the water. Did you enjoy the 30 minutes spent protecting Emma on the bridge things, only to
have Vamp kill her?

Check, check, check, and check. :p
Originally posted by PoisonTongue The fight with Psycho Mantis
requires you to use the Player 2 controller
. Otherwise, you?ll never hit him. Isn?t that gameplay much better than anything MGS2 sends our way?
Yes. It is. But it's also better than anything any game sends are way. That was the most innovative thing to be placed in a game EVER if you ask me.
He could also read your memory card, now that was awesome. "I see you've played some other Konami games".

Originally posted by PoisonTongue EDIT: About TwinSnakes. My copy has been reserved since Feb 03. I'm really looking forward to it. :D
You lucky dog you. I'm going to have to wait myself. My wallet still hasn't recovered from SCII, Viewtiful Joe, and Fire Emblem.
Originally posted by PoisonTongue As not to be Off-Topic, lol...what game do I feel is overrated... Metal Gear Solid 2. I felt like it was just an overblown sequel to a very poignant original. Everything about MGS2 felt...drab. The protagonist was annoying, the CODEC went off at the worst times and often with Rose on the other end chatting some inane romantic banter. MGS2 was filled with boring characters and backstory. Fortune was the only villain to live up to the caliber of MGS1. MGS2's plot was...convoluted and unfocused. It went in 10 different directions at a time. It didn't feel coherent and the dialogue was substandard. Overall, a disappointing sequel.
I don't know what your opinion on the game was when it came out. But pretty much everyone was impressed with it, they loved it, praised it. Now a few years later it's being bashed repeatedly by the same people that loved it. Because they are comparing it to 2nd generation PS2 games. A lot of times even wonderful games can look bad next to games that come out 1 or 2 years later. MGS2's story was boring, in that aspect it didn't live up to MGS at all. But the game play aspects were improved ten fold, for that reason I enjoyed MGS2 more than the original MGS. Which is also why I can't wait for MGS: Twin Snakes, MGS' story, MGS2' game play. Another game that this has happened to (being praised at release and trashed a year later) is SMS.
Originally posted by Shinmaru And just so I don't drag this thread into one big Zelda fight lol...here's another game I feel is overrated: The whole damn Mortal Kombat series. I just never got it. To me, all it had was the novelty of blood and that's it. You could easily button mash and get pretty far in the game. Plus, it's a member of the Tekken school of "a bazillion buttons per move" and I've always found that to be extremely annoying. I always wished someone would've told them that you don't have to use every button on the controller!
I'm a fighting game junkie and in terms of game play, Tekken is the series with the most depth. Now before all of you tell me how short the game was and that SCII has a long arse weapon mode and tons of extras. I said game play, the different combos and juggles you can incorporate into the game play are amazing. The a bazillion buttons per move thing doesn't bother me at all. Unless you have some annoyingly slow fingers, you can pull off moves pretty fast, regardless of how long the move is.
Originally posted by Shinmaru Gran Turismo is supposed to be realistic. I know that. But they're so realistic, that they border on unenjoyable for me.
Ditto.
Originally posted by Shinji Ikari Two words, Animatrix Ripoff.
Oh yes, because every series that expands itself into the cartoon realm is a rip-off of the Matrix. Even if they got the idea from the Animatrix, is it fair to call it a rip-off? That's like saying the Matrix is a rip-off of Star Wars because Star Wars was a trilogy first. :p It just doesn't matter, if anything we should be happy that more film creators are seeing the advantages in expanding their series, and if it turns into a cartoon/anime we should be even more happy. I just don't see what (logical) problem you have with it.
Originally posted by Mitch I would have to disagree heh.
He is alive, thus. Not to mention The Oracle also said that "I speculate we will see him again someday."

I'm not too sure about that. I can honestly tell you I don't remember that part and once again he shall be revived (well, if they make another movie, which I doubt will happen). I mean, I can't really argue my point anymore, it's either you believe me or don't. It's just what I believe, you can't prove me wrong, nor can I you, untill there is official word from someone involved in the series.
-
Originally posted by Eugi we all know
neo didnt die
.

I beg to differ. The Matrix is tied into the bible almost directly, I could point out the similarities here for hours. Neo is Jesus. Neo died, he was in the same position as Jesus when he was crucified. He is dead, but will possibly be revived. I know I can't completely shoot down you arguement, but it ties right into the bible. They wouldn't have all the similarities and then completely change the ending.
-
Why would it matter if you were African American or not? I guess it a common mis-conception that all African Americans are people are poor, and that the "ghetto" is exclusive to them. It's true that a lot of African Americans are poor, but so are white people, mexicans, and other minorities. I don't mind the game, I don't find it funny, because it's stupid. But I don't find it offesive, because I'm not uptight.
Originally posted by James This franchise has ended and demonstrated to me that it is a true film classic. I just wish it didn't have to end. I want more comics, more Animatrix, more movies...I want to keep exploring this fantastic universe. But I can't. So...I will just have to buy a boxed set when it comes out, so that I can forever own a piece of this wonderful story.
God, you don?t know how much I agree with you on that. It?s an amazing series, I love it, it can?t end. I don?t believe that it will either, the Wachoski brothers will find a way to tastefully bring it back. Maybe a back-story, a side-story, or a sequel. It can?t end there, it won?t. As for the movie?brilliant.
I admit this is the first Matrix movie that confused me a bit. I can?t tell you what I don?t get, it just doesn?t piece together correctly in my mind. Neo is dead; anyone who knows about the Matrix and how religion ties in can tell you that. They can also tell you he will be resurrected. Neo plays the part of Jesus, the savior of his people, there are believers and non-believers. Just look at the position he is in when he dies at the end of Revolutions, he?s been crucified. Remind you of any famous religious personalities? James, thanks for the answer you gave to Syk3, that was my question too. I honestly didn?t think Neo had anything to do with it, I figured that the Oracle just overpowered Smith, from within himself and that it was just poorly written. Which I knew couldn?t be the case, not with The Matrix. I agree with Mitch, about the ending. I am not too fond of the ending, not the end of the war, but the end of the movie in general. Bad ending, leaves too many unanswered questions to be the ?last? movie. God?that was a great movie.
-
Another game I thought of that is quite underrated is Dead to Rights. I admit it wasn?t horribly bashed or anything, but because of DTR?s similar feel to Max Payne it was dubbed a clone by many people. All of this people, however, missed out on an amazing game. It took the good things about Max Payne and expanded upon them ten fold. Several dis-arms, guns, mini-games, and features make this game extremely fun. Though I admit for most people it?s one of those games you play through, love, and then never touch again. But I still think that equal credit should be given, when it?s due.

I know this is quite old, but I recently played a game that definately deserves to be on this list. Have you ever heard of Denki Blocks? I didn't think so. It's an awesome puzzle game for the GBA, that I now plan on buying (once I get a GBASP/Gameboy Player). It's by far the best puzzle game I've ever played, look past the cartoony style, and the sheer odd-ness of this title and you will find an amazing game. The actual structure of the game is quite strange, however once you start playing you'll want more and more. My friend downloaded it for the VisualBoyAdvanced (GBA Emu) and we played for hours. You'd be suprised at how difficult some of the puzzles are and how much joy you'll have while playing. :D Definately the most underrated puzzle game of all time.

I agree with Dagger on this one, the Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal we great dubs. Much better than the RK series and a lot of other dubs out there. Also I have to defend ADV here, they are a very good dubbing company, and they have some of the best dubbed series' around. For me the worst dub would be the Pilot Candidate series that aired on Adult Swim last year. The voices matched the characters, but it looked like an old Gozilla movie (dub wise, not animation quality) and the dialouge was about on par with DBZ. Bleh.

Shy, my I ask where you heard/read this? I'm not trying to dis-credit your word or anything, but it's nice to see something official and such. As I said earlier in the thread, the anime was not bad, but it just didn't fit with the film. It seemed to just be thrown in there. A whole seperate anime flick based of Kill Bill would be great though. Sort of like the Animatrix, give us a better feel for the story.
Originally post by James
I want to see Copperhead's daughter grow up and get some revenge. ~_^

As do many. First I must compliment PoisonTongue on a wonderful guide, my cat could follow that thing. :) (P.S. I miss your Simon avatar) Second, that is so much better than your first attempt KnR. If you take this advice, and expand upon it (broaden your horizons) I think you could be doing some great banners in the future. But once again, why the .bmp? I took the libert of saving it to a JPG for you.
-
Yes, I understand that. And I just realised that there probably aren't many tutorials for paint users. You can't do much in paint, but trust me, if your screw around with it for a little while, your results will turn out much better. I work out of a paint basis too (well, now I have PSP7 but I've yet to do anything), and it takes a lot of work to make a banner look good. Just put some more effort into what you're doing. Trust me on this, even with paint, you can do some OK stuff. ;p
Originally posted by Kyo no Ryu Its meant to be plain. Hav you seen the other ones? And the text was purposefull. Its a joke lighten up. My charachter in Kill Adam was neutral so...
I think you're the one that needs to lighten up, it's called criticism. The banner is nothing great, I know that you would do something better. The colors don't match eachother, even if that was the intention, they clash. It's extremely dull, the other Kill Bill spin-off banners have some sort of texture, some blur, something to make them the slightest bit interesting. Read some tutorials and spend a fair amount of time on it, then you should get a bit better. :) Also, .bmp isn't a very good file format.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Your source is most likely insane then lol. Geist has pretty much always been set to sometime in 2004 to my knowledge. If a rather high profile game like this (mostly because of Nintendo's involvment) was coming this Holiday season everyone would know about it. There hasn't even been any news on it since E3.
It was a pretty old article but I wouldn't call them insane. ^_^; Shin, going through a military base or cavern in an FPS is like jumping on something's head in a platformer. It used to happen all the time, but it's being slowly phased out. But sometimes, due to lack of ideas, developers throw it in there and refuse to let it die. Semjezee, what's the good word on that video I asked you about?
Originally posted by Shinmaru To my knowledge, Regions are made to prevent piracy and the like. I can't tell you where to get such a chip because site advertisements like that are against the rules, heh. Sorry I can't help you any more.
Heh. So many people min-interperet that rule. It's fine if your showing a person where to get something, just don't go running around plugging the hell out of some random site. I'm not sure if it's there, but I use Lik-Sang for anything I can't get at a store like Target or something. But if I were you, I wouldn't bother with that. Just buy a Universal DVD Player, it can play any region. Which is quite useful when importing DVDs. :D

Snoochie Boochies! Well, Fire Emblem is coming out on Monday according to GameStop. To top it off I actually have enough money, well kind of. I have $27 but I'll trade Tekken 4 in (it's worth $6.50). The main problem for me will be time, between school, the internet, friends, and the countless games I've been buying lately/need to finish. Viewtiful Joe, Animal Crossing, Soul Calibur II, ect. I don't think I'll be able to get more than an hour in a day, if that. Beh, so many games, so little money/time.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel It's definitely not coming out this year, I can tell you that much.
A rather reliable site posted that it would come out Holiday 03'. That works better for me anyway, so many amzing looking games coming out lately, I'm going insane trying to find the money to buy them. Let me get something clear though, I wasn't looking down upon them because their games were licensed, I was looking down upon them because from my expirience, they suck. I've been looking for some Geist videos that don't require IGN insider. I guess I'll just check New Technix, they're bound to have something. Edit: It's not looking good for Geist videos. You have a link laying around Semjeezy?

I visit OB enough while I'm awake, now I need to have dreams too? Heh, I'll be officially scared the day I have a dream about anything relating to OtakuBoards. No OB dreams for me, I dream about other things. :smooch:

Back at E3 n-space announced that they were developing a first-person shooter exclusively for the GameCube. I was hesitant to make this thread, mainly because I thought someone would have posted a thread on it, but I guess it's not all that popular here. It's looking pretty good, but I'm not sure if I can really trust the developers. They don't have the best track record, Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes and Mary-Kate & Ashley: Magical Mystery Mall are just a few of the games they've developed. I've yet to play either, but neither of them got spectacular reviews. But I'm not just throwing this company out the window for those games, every now and then a developer who has hit a rough spot comes back with a vegance. A good example of this would by Midway with Mortal Kombat : Deadly Alliance. The element that has most of the people interested in this game, including myself, is the ability to possess other people's bodies. Geist itselft means ghost or spirit, in German. Throughout the whole game you will be taking over character's bodies and using their physical and mental abilities. It's said there will be more than 12 character types to take over, so it won't get old very fast. This is a little something I stole from N-Sider. Looks to be a pretty simple and easy set-up. Which is always nice. Overall, Geist looks pretty good, but we'll have to wait and see. I'm very exited about the new innovation, those are pretty rare these days, especially for an FPS. Here are a few shots to give you a feel for the game. Multiplayer is a must in FPS, but this brings up a question. If one player is a Geist, and the other is normal, can you possess them? Looking beautiful, but the level designs look pretty stale from what I've seen. It looks as if we'll be going through another military base, or even a military base in space! Player 1 about to jump into her body and take control. Yet another cliche FPS level. A cavern...oooooh. Lookin' good to me, except for the stale level designs. I'm not sure when it'll be coming out. Last I heard it was December 03, but I could be wrong. I'm looking to pick it up when it's released, and you?

I can't honestly say I'm "looking forward" to it. But I've been reading about it in various magazines. I'm slightly intrigued as to how the action will be. It's said to be DMC like action, but done better, more abilities, better control, ect. Such as running across the wall and such. I can't say much else looks interesting, because I know nothing about the game. I'll go read up on it a bit and come edit this.

Yay! Way to keep the Sony forum alive Shin. :) I saw a review of the first one on X-Play (it was probably Extended Play at the time) a while back, and it did pretty well. So I decided to check it out, but I could never find it. Not even my Gamestop had it (well, that isn't saying much since they never have Metroid Fusion), so I unfortunately never got to play it. I (even though this sounds a little biased) was really thrown off by the whole camera thing. I honestly thought it was lame. But I realised if they used guns, it would probably be labeled a Silent Hill clone, so they needed some type of innovation. I don't mind the camera thing too much and from what I've read this game looks promising, and the original is awesome. So, if it's possible for me to find this one, it's going to be mine.
