First of all, this isn't meant to be a 'what is your relgion?' thread. But I thought i'd ask relgious OBers what shapes their beliefs. My mother recently had a chat with her ESL teacher about religion. Her teacher claims that she is Chrisitan, but she told my mom that she didn't believe that Jesus was the son of God --she believed he was prophet. Since this was the Islamic perspective of Jesus, my mother further questioned her about Muhammad. Her teacher told her that she believed that Muhammad was also a prophet. My mother asked her, if that's the case, why isn't she a muslim? Her teacher simply said that she disagrees with polygamy, which is permitted in Islam. I find it odd how many people nowadays seem to be only choosing aspects of religion that appeal to them than the religion as a whole. Why is it that some christians believe that the Bible is the word of God, yet at the same time don't believe in hell? The Bible states that evil-doers and infidels will go to hell doesn't it? It just doesn't make sense. What are your views on this?

For me, it really depends on the situation. I love the the color I am posting in right now, but It just looks good on the computer screen. I wouldn't want clothes or objects this color. The shade of the color also matters to me. I like green and orange, but when grouped together, the green should be light. Also, both should be a bit yellowish. I don't like reddish oranges or bluish greens. I also love olive green. As for clothing, I just love deep, rich red.

I'm not happy with the results, except for the fact that NDP has won many more seats than last time. I'm glad its a minority government. NDP can keep the conservatives in check. Let's see the tories even try to privatize our healthcare! We don't need a social hierchy thank you very much.

Pretty dang good idea. I was wondering where some of these people live that allows them to post at 2 in the morning! This little idea earns Stark's vote of approval.
I reply at 2 in the morning sometimes...:D Anyway, I can't believe there's so little Canadians, and we're right next to the U.S.

The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty of 2005 (Nominations Thread)
DBZgirl88 replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
The 1st Annual OtakuBoards Graphics Tournament: unfortunatley, I only discovered the tournament during the last round, but took time to look through the previous rounds. It's great to have some well organised friendly competition on the boards, a place for the artists to really show off their talent. Pretty nifty! Gavin: "Interesting, most interesting." Need I say more? Okay, I will anyway. This dude is one of the nicest, most respectful members on the boards. He's understanding a respects other people's opinions and never puts people down. And he's Irish! How nifty can you get? Way to go Gavin! The 'How do you pronounce your username?' thread: I found this thread to more informative than I thought it would be. I've been pronouncing quite a few people's usernames wrong. ChibiHorseWoman: For starting so many nifty threads of course! Panda: For being a fun, enthusiastic, and all around nice person. Newbies:
There's sometimes a stigma related to newbies, but most of the people who were classified as "newbies" over the last year have turned out to be incredibly valuable members. I think what surprised me most about 2005 was that, for once, we had more incredibly good new members arriving than members who "needed work". We used to be able to expect a small minority of new members to be truly amazing, but that's a trend that has really reversed this year.
I would have to agree. :D Baron Samedi: For being gutsy enough to nominate himself just for the sake of it, lol. Desbreko: For his continuous threats of abusing his position of authority. He's so deliciously evil! Jokes - You got any you want to share?: I found this thread rather enjoyable. It's nice to have a good laugh. Drix D'Zanth: I just like the way he debates. He maintains a level of respect and argues very intelligently. That's it for my nominations. Anyway...
Random Questions Who originally started this thread? I?ve no idea, because it got deleted in a freak electrical storm, or something. But indifference started it up again and I was thankful, yes I was. A single thread, the repository for all those niggly little questions that aren?t worth starting a whole thread for? Nifty idea. It helped us all discover the origins of pie (in Ancient Egypt, apparently).
I started the thread, though I think I called it "Random Question thread". It was good that it was deleted at first, becuase certain people were posting irrelevant inflammatory remarks for the sake of being spiteful, and sending the thread down a potentially endless, hopeless chute of senseless bickering. Anyway, thanks indifference, for giving the thread a new start. -
I don't like overgeneralizing when it comes to politics. Although I don't support the conservatives, some people are really make them look like they're pure evil. I 'm pretty much paying no attention to ads, especially the propapanda filled attack ads. I've simply looked through all the policies, and so far I'm pretty pleased with NDP. I'd like a change in government. I want to give them a chance.

Unless there's a Thames river dividing London, Canada through the middle? Pretty sure we're in England here. lol
I live in London, Canada, and yes we do have a Thames river. But it's not connected to the ocean. I wasn't sure if London, England had a Thames river though (I don't know my geography). Just checking. It would be odd if a whale came out of the great lakes.

Do you mean London, Canada, or London, England?

Have you ever encountered a strange coincidence? Here's mine: When I was in in grade 7 and 8, I had a really nice jewish friend. In grade 7, we had a talent show and she played a nice little flute tune. We graduated from grade 8 and went our seperate ways, to different highschools and different universities. I haven't seen her in six years. Yesterday while I was in the muslim prayer room in my university. Somebody's cell phone started ringing. The ring-tune was the same tune my friend played in the talent show. Later that day, I bumped into her at a comedy show. Weird. It's as though the cell phone was a sign....

Brasil, I was reffering to your comments towards Amelia, which were really offensive. You first post wasn't really that mean. Anyway, I don't see Kaise insulting any of the members. Based on his information, he does have it hard with his stepdad. His intention of making this thread was to ask what's the best way not to get caught. It's not his fault people are asking about his family problems. It's not his fault everyone is trying to convince him not to run away, and just because he's ignoring the advice that he didn't ask for, that doesn't mean he needs a "tough lesson". Like, most people here I do agree that he shouldn't run away, but just because he doesn't accept that advice, it doesn't give us the right to belittle him. Why? Because it's advice that he didn't ask for. If you think that this thread is so ridiculous, why not report it to the mods, instead of posting spam?

AngeloftheRain: Nice avi and banner combo. 6/10? Like you said, the avi is a bit pixelated. Both the avi and the banner could use a border.

I believe 16 and 17 year olds should be able to vote. The government has a big impact on education of course. Wouldn't you like to have a say in matters concerning postsecondary education so the results are there when you attend university or college? I don't think voting is a huge weight on teen's shoulders, and if they are educated enough in political matters, they should be allowed to make there voices heard. Isn't this the kind of responsibility that teenagers want? However, it's important that they are educated in politics to be allowed to vote. In Ontario, Canada, we have a mandatory civics course in grade 10.

What do you do when you have nothing to do?
DBZgirl88 replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in General Discussion
I like going to the library. There's a whole bunch of books on all kinds of topics for you to enjoy. If you don't like reading for fun, you can at least look for ideas about a new hobby. -
If any of you have been keeping up with middle-eastern news, you'd know that Ariel Sharon has suffered a stroke and very possibly some brain damage, putting him out of commision. He probably can't come back to power. I do not want to start an Isreal/Palestine debate here, but the reality is that palestinians do want an independant state at least. Do you think Sharon's being out of power will hinder the creation of a Palestinian state? Or was he an obstacle to begin with? Do you think Sharon's ill health is a good thing or bad thing?

Scientifically speaking, I believe life begins at the moment of conception. Religiously though, though I am not sure of the sources, I heard the soul only enters the embryo at three months, (though there are some who believe it's at conception). But for some reason most islamic scholars still believe abortion is wrong even if the soul hasn't entered the body. I guess because you're still killing a potential human being.

How the woman's body is used. [Mature Topic]
DBZgirl88 replied to Citrus's topic in General Discussion

If you think that bodies are so precious that they can't be displayed, which parts of the body are you talking about? Would you consider a photo of a woman's eyes just as immoral as a photo pf her breasts? After all, they're both beautiful, so they should both be hidden away, right?
Okay, I mean your private areas. -
How the woman's body is used. [Mature Topic]
DBZgirl88 replied to Citrus's topic in General Discussion
The human body, whether male or female, is beautiful, but it is not something that should be displayed for everyone to see. People should only share their bodies with their lovers. If you had something precious, would you not hide it somewhere safe, and gaurd it? I know people who choose to pose for pornography and nude photos are simply exercising their "rights" but do honestly think it's the right for those individuals? Anyway, although I am personally disgusted by porn, I do accept the fact that it is serving its puropse of sexual arousal. What bothers me more sometimes is how women's bodies are used to sell products. In this day, one just takes a product, slaps on a women's naked body, and there you go, you have an ad! This may make sense for body lotions and soaps, but I've seen it done with toilet paper. Toilet paper for God's sake. Honestly, is it so neccesary to have such racy ads. I can't look through one magazine without coming across an ad that uses a woman's body. Pretty sad. -
Your MATURE opinions on homosexuality
DBZgirl88 replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
As some of you already know, I'm muslim. Hence, I believe that homosexual acts are forbidden and hated by God. God created men and women to be companions for eachother, and it angers him when either sex ignores them gift of companionship that he has given them. I was exposed to the idea of homosexuality before I even learned that it was wrong in my religion, before even learning the story of Sodom. Even then I felt that it was wrong and unnatural. I believe that homosexuality is simply a preference, just like how some people like coffee and others don't, just like how some like broccili and others don't. But some preferences are not good (like alcohol for instance), so people should avoid them. I honestly don't understand why people don't see homosexuality as a problem. I'm not saying that we should hate or shun people with homosexual tendancies, but why doesn't our society at least see it as a problem and that these people need help (no offence to homosexuals here). Technically at least, (I'll leave morals out of this), homosexuality is wrong. It goes against the very nature of humans. -
1. Playing loud music in my room and singing at the top of my lungs. If it's instrumental music, I pretend I'm playing one of the instruments and dream of becoming a professional musician one day...sigh...I wish I could play my violin better. 2. Being arabic, we have several seasonings and herb or spice mixes in our house. My favorite, thyme, which is mixed with sesame seeds. I eat entire spoonfuls of that stuff.

The NEW What OB members would you like to meet IRL?
DBZgirl88 replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion

I think i would like to meet Gavin,[/b'] yeah, just to meet the guy who coined "Interesting, most interesting" as the most interesting, yet predictable, way to start a conversation.
Seconded. Gavin seems like a really calm, collected person, with a good sense of humor, and who's also very understanding and respectful of other's opinions. ChibiHorseWoman: Always comes up with interesting topics. Panda: Seems like a fun and nice person to be around. :animesmil -

That was a hoax? OH THANK GOD!! That had me pretty freaked out for a while! Man do I feel stupid though...Oh well! I'm just glad no one's hurtin' those poor little kittens! :catgirl: [/SIZE']
I too was fooled by the hoax. It's good to know that it's not real though. I was wondering why the site hasn't been closed down. I hate photoshop hoaxes. They can be really disturbing when they are so well done. Imagine if someone took your face and pasted it somewhere it shouldn't be (porno maybe), and did a good job of fooling the viewer of the image. *Shudder*

I don't celebrate christmas because I am muslim, but I can't help but get a warm feeling when the christmas season arrives. I like seeing all the christmas lights on people's houses. I wish the muslim community in my city would do something more special during our holidays. My family puts up lights in Ramadan, but it kinda looks weird when it's the only house decorated and it's not december (Ramadan was in october this year). December also brings those fearful Christmas exams! But it also means a two-week break from school.

I really like the butterfly picture. I like how you made the background blurred. You've really given this image dimension. I suggest adding veins to the leaves. They seem a bit plane, but other than that, the whole image is great! Keep up the good work.
