Anime Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements
Dagger replied to Syk3's topic in Otaku Central
"Due to a miscommunication in regards to the amount of time that is required to pass between the DVD release of InuYasha: The Love that Transcends Time and its airing, the previously announced date of October 23 for Adult Swim's airing of the feature will be pushed back. Instead, it will premiere in the Spring of 2005. We understand how disappointing this is for InuYasha fans, but these were circumstances beyond our control. Premieres of InuYasha will continue to air on Saturdays at 12 a.m., with weekday reruns at 12:30 a.m." I found this announcement at the Adult Swim message boards. Honestly, I don't think anyone should be upset about the delay--the film will be released in stores sometime in the fall, and since it won't be particularly expensive, anyone who's absolutely dying to see more Inuyasha can just buy the DVD. ~Dagger~ -
Welcome to OtakuBoards, tyson. ^_^ Just so you know, not many people bother to read subject lines. Next time, you should name the anime to which you're referring somewhere within the body of your post. It would also be a good idea to make sure that your punctuation and capitalization are a bit more polished--no one's perfect, but other members ought not to experience any difficulty when reading your replies. If you have questions about our policies, feel free to private message me or one of the other moderators. ~Dagger~

Rice-Box released episode 10 earlier today. I appreciate the way the show is structured--so far none of the individual arcs have felt too short or too long, and they've all received a satisfactory resolution while contributing to the viewer's knowledge of the world in which Melody of Oblivion takes place. Another notable aspect of this series is that every single one of the recurring female characters is likeable and sympathetic... especially Coco. ^_~ Bocca's quasi-platonic relationship with Sayoko may not receive a lot of screen time, but it's nicely portrayed and (in my opinion) one of the show?s best elements. Any anime in this mold needs to have appealing characters in order to minimize the audience?s eye-rolling when things get overly symbolic. Heh, the only reason I?ve heard of Tenshi ni Narumon! is thanks to Synch-Point?s ridiculous delays (?epic? really is a good word to describe them). The character designs look quite cute?cute enough to make me a little wary, as a matter of fact. Could you possibly tell me more about this series? ~Dagger~
It was called "TehSillyCircus" and it will live in infamy forever.
Shortly after participating in that chat, I pretty much stopped using AIM and haven't logged on for longer than five minutes at any one time since. TehSillyCircus was fun while it lasted, but I think the sheer insanity scared me off. :p ~Dagger~

The first episode of Haru was a lot... funnier than I had expected. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I think your comment about it feeling like an omake was at least partially merited. I enjoyed Sei's crazy driving and the bickering session which masqueraded as a card game. At the same time, the episode lacked the focus and balance which made the end of the first season so great. Having to re-introduce the entire cast would tend to do that, I suppose. While Suguru's interest in Yumi's poor defenseless little brother would normally be quite welcome in my book, it did seem little too convenient. I loved the part when Yumi and Yuuki stood side by side, wearing identical expressions of adorable confusion--it's just that the scriptwriters might have had an easier time juggling all of the characters if Yuuki and Suguru were eliminated from this episode. Unless one or both of them plays a major role in some upcoming arc (unlikely though that may be), I don't understand why they needed to make an appearance. Over the course of the entire first season, Yuuki and Suguru collectively appeared in only three or four scenes, most of them totally inconsequential. Hopefully Yumi will begin to develop a backbone sometime in the near future. I like her, but right now I can't imagine her dealing with a petite soeur of her own. Her Sachiko-related insecurities are completely unmerited, and she really ought to be capable of realizing this on her own. I wish Ali Project hadn't added vocals to the OP. It doesn't sound very good, which is a shame considering that the new opening animation looks simply beautiful. About the ending of Oniisama E:
I was shocked when Rei died. I was also quite surprised when I watched the last few episodes, which had been ripped from DVD, and realized that the show's artwork is even more lovely than I'd originally thought. Anyway, this series ended perfectly. Before Rei's death, I had begun to worry that Kaoru's past relationship with Henmei would never receive any kind of explanation or clarification.
Every single subplot got its share of closure, which seems to happen rather infrequently nowadays. If Oniisama E was ever licensed, I would buy it in a heartbeat. ~Dagger~

Yes, impatience has led me to stick with Lunar's fansubs. ^_^;; Haha, my favorite part of episode 4 was the scene during which
Kanbei said "I'm in love!" to Kyuuzou simply for the sake of catching him off-guard. While Kanbei may not be capable of defeating Kyuuzou in a fair fight, his various (not particularly dirty) tricks--such as hurling a volley of metal poles at Kyuuzou's head--certainly helped to increase his odds.
~Dagger~

Seeing episodes 3 and 4 (especially episode 4!) instantly made Samurai 7 into one of my favorite anime of the current season. Dan, Kyuuzou is just too cool for words. He has that lovely semi-evil personality which I never seem to tire of, no matter how many male characters possess it. ;) Plus, the fight between him and
Kanbei
is really quite breathtaking, equal to or even better than the kind of action that Samurai Champloo regularly dishes out. I like this show's script and sly sense of humor as well as its visual richness--it's got a whole lot going for it, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next set of episodes. ~Dagger~

Welcome to OtakuBoards, Strayed Soul. ^_^ The four main characters are wolves. It would be easier to explain the show's premise if you mentioned which specific aspects of Wolf's Rain confuse you--details are never a bad thing. OtakuBoards places a strong emphasis on post quality, and this includes asking questions in such a way that the people who respond are able to provide you with the most relevant and interesting answers possible. ~Dagger~

Haha, I'm such a sucker for cross-overs. I wasn't sold on the first volume of Xxxholic until, while flipping through its pages, I caught a glimpse of several characters from Gohou Drug. With that having been said, Xxxholic is pretty good in its own right... however, the dialogue can get rather circular, and Yuko rambles far too often for my tastes. I think I'll just keep reading this in the hope of finding more Tokyo Babylon and Gohou Drug references. :p ~Dagger~

While I think that Yoshihiro Togashi is an utter genius, I enjoy the anime based on his work much more than the original manga. This applies to Yu Yu Hakusho as well as Hunter x Hunter. I can't speak for the manga, but in the anime Gon is a really fascinating character--the script does an amazing job of subtly portraying his unique charm and showing why everyone from Hisoka to Killua gradually becomes drawn to him. It helps that Hunter x Hunter's voice cast is highly talented, and that its plot is totally devoid of filler. Rather than stretching the television show out in order to generate revenue (something which has happened to virtually every other shounen action anime longer than sixty episodes), the producers chose to continue it as a series of OVAs once they caught up with the manga. ~Dagger~

Anime Which manga/manwha do you want to be animated?
Dagger replied to Dagger's topic in Otaku Central
Banana Fish would make a truly amazing anime. It's simply the best-written manga I've ever read--if the show's scriptwriters could retain even half of the original dialogue, it would already be well on its way to becoming a classic. With its brutal (but not sickening) violence, grim realism and stark character designs, Banana Fish is pretty much unique among shoujo series. A television series based on the manga could appeal to male and female viewers alike. ~Dagger~ -
Anime Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex will begin airing on Adult Swim in November. I'm fairly sure that Cartoon Network plans to show both seasons. ~Dagger~ -
I also have a question coz I heard that
Hisoka is Gon's father
is this true? anyway just PM me for the answer or reply with a spoiler tag. Also how many episodes are there?[/SIZE']
The TV show is 62 episodes long. It's followed by the OVA Series 1 (8 episodes), the OVA Series 2: Greed Island (also 8 episodes), and the OVA Series 3: G I Final (14 episodes). In any case, I probably haven't seen as much of Hunter x Hunter as you have, but
I don't think Hisoka could possibly be Gon's father. He looks nothing like the man in Mito-san's picture. Besides, Gon's father is/was already a famous Hunter--why, then, would he need to take the Hunter exam again? Hisoka has failed the exam at least once (in the year before he met Gon, Killua, Leorio and Kurapica).
To tell you the truth, I would find a plot twist like that to be more disturbing than surprising or creative. ^_^;; EDIT: Last night, I marathoned the last eight episodes of the television series, along with the entirety of the first OVA (which is basically a smooth continuation of the events in the show). Hunter x Hunter totally eclipses Yu Yu Hakusho, good as that series is. If you stick with it long enough, it pays off in a big way. Does Kuroro just disappear after
Kurapica binds him with the Chain of Judgment? While I'm definitely satisfied that Kurapica didn't kill him,
I think he's a fantastic character (easily one of my favorites) and was wondering whether he makes an appearance in any of the Greed Island OVAs. ~Dagger~

Tastes vary. Personally, I find small breasts more attractive than large ones. In any event, no amount of plastic surgery can possibly make anyone love or even like a certain girl. The guy in question may find her more sexually appealing than before, but that's about it. Women definitely shouldn't undergo such operations with the goal of luring a single person. ~Dagger~
Wow. They cleaned up fast. A+ for efficiency. I'm actually quite amazed.
Haha, thanks. Believe it or not, this was actually a little less horrific than our last mass spamming (which involved some really repulsive pictures). I'm immensely relieved that other staff members came online. ~Dagger~

A couple of days ago, I received volume 1 of Gungrave in the mail. Having seen the first two episodes, I'm immensely happy that I chose not to watch this when it was being fansubbed. So far I've also managed to avoid stumbling across spoilers about any upcoming plot twists. Gungrave seems like just my type of show, and its character designs reflect Yasuhiro Nightow's unique style of art much more accurately than Trigun's. I would go so far as to say that they improve upon his occasionally disproportionate drawings. I thought the end of episode 2 was extremely well directed. Moreover, Gungrave has a strong script and great production values. While I like the dub enough to keep on watching the show in English, I do feel that some of the female voices were miscast. Maria just sounds far different than what her appearance would naturally lead me to expect--a little too young, perhaps. Thankfully, all of the male VAs totally nail their respective characters. Gungrave fascinates me on a whole variety of levels. In episode 2, the young men's camaraderie is presented really skillfully and believably. Over the course of only a few scenes, none of which contained much dialogue, they were all shown to have distinct, interesting personalities. Brandon is particularly compelling because he could easily have been portrayed as your stereotypical strong, standoffish type--yet I've never seen a character quite like him. ~Dagger~
tekken the anime moive is my fav.
Welcome to OtakuBoards, shadowblade. ^_^ Our only requirement for favorites topics is that each of the respondents must justify his or her choice(s). If members neglect to do this, then the thread in question basically becomes pointless. Had your post explained why you like Tekken, it would have been much more likely to encourage some kind of response and thereby help the discussion keep moving along. In the future, please be sure to keep this in mind. ~Dagger~

You don't have to write freakishly long posts. As long as your one, two or three line replies actually say something of importance, there shouldn't be an issue. You're always welcome to appeal a moderator's decision via PM--I won't speak for other members of the staff, but if I judge something incorrectly I have no problems with admitting (publicly or privately) that I'm wrong. Speaking your mind probably won't make anybody angry; being overly negative about it very well might. ~Dagger~
Its not anime... Oh yeah, and a little tid bit, [adult swim] is supposed to start airing "Full Metal Alchemist" starting Januraury. Lets all look out for that.
Huh? What makes you think that Case Closed isn't anime? It meets pretty much all of the qualifications which immediately spring to mind, and heaven knows it's one of the more successful series in Japan (as is evidenced by its incredible length). Oh, and FMA is starting on November 6, along with Read or Die and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I strongly recommend all three of these excellent anime.
the fact that it is dubbed now had me very critical of it's presentation, esepcially since I know at least one of the dragonball Z dubbed crew is involve...
As I've made clear in other posts, I like Case Closed's dub very much. But don't take my word for it--see the series in English for yourself! ;) ~Dagger~

This sort of thing should be posted in CHW's anime/manga quiz thread, which is still located on the first page of the forum and can be found by simply scrolling down. In the future, please bear in mine that we strive to avoid duplicate topics. :) Thread closed. ~Dagger~ -
Chibi Devil Me, please stop reviving topics which are over a month or two old. If you stumble across an ancient thread that really catches your interest, you're more than welcome to create a similar topic (assuming it addresses some kind of general issue or question and is not listed in the directory). Anime Samurai Champloo [from the creator of Cowboy Bebop]
Dagger replied to Dagger's topic in Otaku Central
I'm really interested finding out what other people think of episode 5. While I enjoyed it, the storyline is utterly random and bizarre. Once again, the screen time gets divided up quite nicely between the three main characters, this time focusing slightly more on Fuu than on Jin or Mugen. Mugen fans should have a blast watching him kick serious *** without so much as
drawing his katana,
and Jin also demonstrates that he's a very multi-talented type of guy. ;) ~Dagger~ -
The Full Metal Alchemest also has an American accent in the dub... This time southern.
Oro? Where did you hear this? As far as I'm aware, FUNimation has never used any voice actors or actresses with noticeable accents (unless you count the woman who plays Botan in Yu Yu Hakusho; there are times when she sounds ever so slightly British). Do you happen to know the VA's name? EDIT: Apparently Vic Mignogna (Mamoru in RahXephon, Kurz in Full Metal Panic) plays Edward Elric. I've been re-watching both of those series recently, and never once have I heard Mr. Mignogna sound even mildly Southern. ^_^;; ~Dagger~

I'm glad I finally got around to starting this delightful series. Made in the early 1990s, Nadia is one of Gainax's best-loved works--and it's easy to see why. The show has aged quite nicely in terms of artwork and animation. More importantly, it's very well-written and well-directed (thanks to Hideaki Anno). Nadia and Jean, the two main characters, make a perfect team whether the scenes they're in are comedic or dramatic. While Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water is ostensibly based upon the classic science-fiction novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, it's an extremely loose and imaginative adaptation. I've heard there are some terrible filler episodes later on, but I'm inclined to think that good aspects of Nadia by far outweigh the bad. Nadia is one of the few series which I enjoy so immensely that I try to stretch it out as much as possible (rather than just marathoning two or three DVDs every day). Its background music is just wonderful, and I absolutely love the OP. Since ADV just released the entire 39 episode anime in two incredibly cheap brick sets, now would be a great time to check it out. ;) ~Dagger~

EDIT: Haha, Solo beat me to it. :p
im new to anime and i recently got into dragonball. what should i watch, if you coudl pick one video?
Welcome to OtakuBoards, natetron. ^_^ While this thread would probably be a good place to ask for anime movie recommendations, you'll need to put more thought and detail into your posts if you don't want them to end up getting deleted. Next time, please specify your interests (i.e. what genres you prefer) and at least make a cursory attempt to answer the original poster's main question. ~Dagger~
