Welcome to OtakuBoards. ^_^ If you enjoy Flame of Recca and Naruto, you'll almost certainly love Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter x Hunter and One Piece. Yu Yu Hakusho is currently airing on Toonami; the latter two series are currently in the process of being digisubbed. Much like favorites threads, recommendations threads tend to be something of a mixed bag. We've had highly successful suggestion topics in the past, but this doesn't guarantee that future offerings won't attract a slew of two-word posts and other forms of spam. The thread creator's starting post is what usually makes the difference. Next time, try explaining why you like the shows you listed. The more details you provide, the easier it'll be for other members to help you out; that will also encourage them to write more. If you have any questions, you're more than welcome to PM me or one of the other moderators. But I also advise you to go over OtakuBoards' Rules and FAQ... chances are that they'll be able to clear up your confusion. Anyway, thank you for your time. ^_^ Thread closed. ~Dagger~

Manga What new manga/manwha are you reading now?
Dagger replied to Monkey_Orange's topic in Otaku Central
Les Bijoux is terribly underrated. This manwha takes place in one of the richest, most beautifully drawn fantasy worlds I've ever seen, and yet I get the sense that almost no one is following it. Unfortunately, the first book thrusts the reader into a number of confusing situations (not to mention the fact that Tokyopop's print quality is absolutely horrific), and I can see how that would make people want to drop the series. But by volume 2, the pace starts to become more relaxed, and plenty of time is set aside for character development as well as bloody action and epic quests. I can't wait to read volume 3. ^_^ Although it's undeniably shoujo, Les Bijoux has a pretty unique atmosphere. It juxtaposes pretty boys and heavy shounen-ai undertones with unforgiving (several semi-important characters have already been slaughtered), brutal battles. Despite the lush, gorgeous artwork and highly stylized setting, Les Bijoux feels grittier than many other fantasy manga/manwha. ~Dagger~ -
Something that has always bewildered me is the sheer number of people who love Naruto-related shounen-ai. Is the series like Yu Yu Hakusho in the sense that it provides some reasonable justification for m/m pairings which aren't technically canon? Let's disregard the fact that YYH's creator actually confirmed the existence of one such relationship. More importantly, does this eventually happens to all shounen anime with moderately attractive character designs? So far the evidence points to a solid yes... ^_^; ~Dagger~

Frankly, I think that the anime is making a big deal about nothing. Inuyasha doesn't truly have a choice. Kikyo is dead, and Kagome is alive. Deciding between death and life should be a fairly straightforward matter, especially for such a simplistic character as he. I would have been able to handle a certain amount of demonic angst, but the show just goes totally overboard in terms of wishy-washy agonizing. He can either stay by Kagome's side and get revenge on Naraku for Kikyo's sake as well as his, or wander off to die with Kikyo and let all his hard work become meaningless. I'm not even a big fan of Kagome, heh. It's just that I can't see any true advantages to choosing Kikyo, unless Inuyasha suddenly becomes suicidal. By the way, the episode you mentioned is somewhat misleading. :p You'll see what I mean as you continue watching the series. ~Dagger~

Personally, I only join RPGs if I feel that the writing quality within them will be very high. At times this means that there are long periods between posts; I started putting together something for Laeth E'Thae shortly before exams, but the need to study eventually forced me to set it aside. In terms of storyline, I tend to gravitate towards fantasy RPGs... which makes sense, considering that the majority of the books I read would fall into that category. Much as I love anime, it seems to me that original RPGs tend to do better than those based directly on a movie or book. This gives the creator greater freedom, and it's exciting to see what kind of characters your fellow participants will come up with. At the same time, I think the best RPGs (such as James' or Arcadia's) succeed because their creators have a strong vision for the work as a whole, but also give members enough flexibility to control minor plot twists. ~Dagger~

Eeep, spoilers... There are plenty of arguments both for and against that particular theory. Most official sources (people involved in the game's creation) state that Aeris was meant to
stay dead.
*shrugs* If they had originally planned on
resurrecting her,
I'm sure something along those lines will show up in Advent Children. One thing which bothers me is when fans complain that Cloud
should just have used a Phoenix Down on her. That cures KO status, not death.
^_^;; ~Dagger~

Nice avatar! ^_~ This is an important point, Lalaith. In the months after I first joined OtakuBoards, I noticed several members undergoing marked improvements--mainly because the mods were patient enough to point those people down the right path and not scare them away. Lately, however, I think we've started giving such members fewer chances... and while that's a good thing on certain levels, being over-vigilant is also undesirable. Frankly, members are a big part of the problem (making people feel unwelcome, that is), and I'm not talking about newbies. One can't blame them for not knowing how OB is run. Few things aggravate me more than people who post in topics which they know will be closed, simply to inform members that the mods don't tolerate that sort of thread--even though they aren't mods themselves. Far from helping, this only serves to make things worse. On a side note, I try not to do much modding when I'm in a crappy mood. :whoops: ~Dagger~
hey can anyone fill me in on what happened last week and the week before. on yuyu cuz i missed and jus now thought about it when i saw this so if some could please fill me in. thanx.

Kurama stayed down for over 10 seconds prior to killing Karasu, so Karasu is ruled the victor despite the fact that he's now dead. In the following episode, Hiei challenges Bui, who later reveals that he wears armor to protect his opponents from his own incredible strength (rather than to protect himself from his opponents). Kurama tells Yusuke that the outcome of this battle could potentially be disastrous, since neither Hiei nor Bui can fully control their powers.
With that having been said, please read OtakuBoards' Rules before writing another reply. Your post quality leaves something to be desired, and proper capitalization is never a bad thing. If you have any questions, you're more than welcome to PM me or one of the other moderators. ^_^ ~Dagger~

Earlier today I finished watching R.O.D the TV, and although it has some minor flaws, overall the show is really fantastic. The storyline is epic and creative, but not to the point of being totally ridiculous; people who managed to suspend their disbelief during Read or Die should have no trouble getting through most of the anime's bizarre plot twists. For a twenty-six episode series, it's very well paced. Even the segments that might be categorized as filler contributed either to character development (of which there is plenty) or some part of the overarching story. Heck, this show made me cry... and a good portion of it isn't even terribly serious. In my opinion, that's a real accomplishment. :p Before I saw R.O.D the TV, I'd noticed that a lot of fans were complaining about its ending.
Apparently the final episode is "too happy." Well, I fail to understand how someone who's watched the OVA could ever think that this isn't an inherently optimistic franchise. One Nancy survived in the final episode of Read or Die--against all odds, I might add--so how could you expect the TV series to end with any kind of enormous tragedy? The characters suffer enough over the course of the anime to lend it emotional credibility.
I guess my main complaint is that the artwork gets a little weird in later episodes. The facial shading becomes rather imprecise, sometimes to the point of being incredibly unsightly. However, R.O.D the TV's action is fluid and exciting (albeit never very lengthy), and while it lacks the OVA's visual shininess, it has much better characterization and a more satisfying plot. Once again,
Junior
is just too damn cute. That makes three series in which my favorite character is voiced by Saiga Mitsuki--Peacemaker (Okita Souji), Kyou Kara Maou (Wolfram) and R.O.D the TV
(Junior)
. I seriously can't wait to get this on DVD. Hopefully, the English voice cast will be as good as the Japanese. Should I split this thread? It might be easier to have one topic for discussing the OVA, and one specifically for R.O.D the TV... but then again, it might not. I'd like to hear your opinions. ~Dagger~

*winces* I love Magus dearly, but I really could've done without the codpiece. Is that even in the original character design? Ah, well. This is a cool--if somewhat far-fetched--idea, and I probably wouldn't feel averse to spending some money on the final game. I have many fond memories of playing Chrono Trigger, after all. ^_^ ~Dagger~
I can understand where you are coming from dagger but link removed is not filled with illegal material. All of the subbed anime does not stay up after an anime is licensed in the states. Also all of the material is eligable for all audiances there is no pornography or any explicet material on this site. It even has a statement about there torents. So sorry for the inconvence I caused I do know not to put up these kind of sites that you were talking about. But still animesuki should be known about and they are not an illegal site so dont wory. Thanks.
OtakuBoards doesn't allow double-posting, m'dear. In any case, I appreciate your response, but it would have been better if you had PMed me the contents of your reply so as to avoid dragging the Get Backers thread totally off-topic. However, I guess I'll take this opportunity to articulate my position on the subject of digisubs. OB's Rules state that "Posting threads/posts with the intent of selling, distributing or advertising copyrighted materials is prohibited by OtakuBoards. We do not offer any trading post services at OtakuBoards.com. Furthermore, posting links to illegal ROMs, full episodes of movies or any other such material is unacceptable." I download from the site you mentioned quite frequently, but that's a personal choice and doesn't make OtakuBoards the right place to propagate the spread of fansubs. Digisubs are thoroughly illegal regardless of whether or not the series in question is licensed. Most people at that site's forums admit that to be true. It's not as though the listing isn't widely known; just about any anime fan who uses Bittorrent will have encountered the site at some point or another. Anyway, this discussion is supposed to focus on Get Backers--the manner in which you acquired the anime should be more or less irrelevant. You're perfectly welcome to tell your friends about the page you mentioned and similar organizations via PM. ~Dagger~

I didn't think this series (also known as Detective Conan) would be particularly good, but after watching episode 1, I'm so happy that I decided to tape it. Airing at 12:30 a.m., Case Closed is the newest addition to Adult Swim's weekday line-up. Right now it's also one of the longest-running series in Japan, with over 350 episodes and no end in sight. Some fans are bitter about the fact that FUNimation's dub Americanized several of the main characters' names. While I don't exactly endorse such alterations, I think people are blowing this way out of proportion. "Conan" is already rather un-Japanese, and the DVDs will undoubtedly come with a decent subtitle track. If the English dub continues to sound fairly natural and appealing, I couldn't care less about minor changes... especially since the Japanese company approved of them. I just liked the first episode a whole lot. The show's funky character designs (look at those giant ears!), Yu Yu Hakusho-esque humor and entertaining plot all served to pique my interest. Are any of you planning to follow Case Closed? ~Dagger~
Who watched the beginning of Karasu vs. Kurama and has seen the uncut? Did you notice that they didn't edit out the parts where it suggested yaoi?
I noticed, and I was immensely happy. :p Anyway, I really enjoyed Saturday's episode, "Beneath Bui's Armor." It's always nice to see Hiei back in action, and this fight is going to be a lot more exciting than I expected. Hiei's victories are usually the quickest and the easiest (just as Kurama's battles are often the most brutal and Kuwabara's the longest and/or most tedious). I'm almost positive that Hiei will be able to defeat Bui, but I can't wait to find out how. ~Dagger~

Keeping QA's comments in mind, I thought I'd mention that Wolfram and Yuuri (two characters from the ongoing anime Kyou Kara Maou) remind me vaguely of Draco and Harry. Like Draco, Wolfram is an arrogant, well-bred brat who looks down on those with impure blood and manages to be extraordinarily loveable despite his many flaws. Yuuri resembles Harry in terms of both looks--gotta love that fluffy black hair--and personality. Something to think about, I guess. Speaking of KKM, I've seen several people call it Kyou Kara Yaoi. I found that very amusing, although the series leaves so much to the imagination that many male viewers are able to ignore or overlook all of its BL innuendo. Shounen-ai/shoujo-ai is something of a guilty pleasure for me, since there aren't many good anime that focus strongly on gay and lesbian relationships. If Yami no Matsuei and Maria-sama ga Miteru didn't revolve around beautiful people of the same gender falling in love with one another, I probably would've tired of them pretty quickly. ~Dagger~
Hey can ne of u tell me who sings ballad of fallen angels and which version it is and btw i think the Escaflowne soundtrack is pretty good too
Um... what? First of all, this thread has absolutely nothing to do with Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne or anime soundtracks in general. If I recall correctly, it wasn't even on the first page when you added your response--which means that you either snatched it from the Directory or sifted through a bunch of older material only to write a totally random, off-topic bit of spam. That's somewhat nonsensical, don't you think? o_O Before posting again, please read OtakuBoards' rules and make sure you understand that we place a strong emphasis on post quality. It's imperative that you attempt to use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation; minor errors are naturally okay, but fellow members shouldn't have to struggle when reading your replies. If you have any questions, you're welcome to PM me or one of the other moderators. Thank you very much. ^_^ ~Dagger~

Anime Samurai Champloo [from the creator of Cowboy Bebop]
Dagger replied to Dagger's topic in Otaku Central
.....maybe some type of pet like Ein. Really added a lot of fun/humor to bebop so it'll be curious to see what they do with Champloo.
*grins* Oh, Mr. Watanabe has already got that covered. If you initially missed the little flying squirrel, scroll ahead to 15:14 and you'll see a furry white object plastered across the Adidas-wearing guard's face. I believe that Fuu referred to him (her?) as Momo. ^_^ EDIT: Interesting scan, ne? In this image Jin looks rather like the "female" version of Susumu (who happens to be the coolest cross-dresser in any anime I've watched), but he's far less.... well, pretty. ~Dagger~ -
These types of threads are usually not permitted, as they don't generate quality discussion, and the creator's question can almost always be answered via Google. Unless you want this topic to be closed, I recommend that you edit your original post and invite members to talk about any aspect of anime conventions. Feel free to PM me or one of the other moderators if you have additional comments or concerns. Thank you very much. ^_^ ~Dagger~

Yeah, "Who's On First" immediately sprang to mind. ^_^ This little piece contains some great wordplay, Solo. I can't wait to read the next chapter, regardless of whether it's long or short. For some reason, Plushie-James' questions also made me think of the philosophical dialogue sprinkled throughout the Matrix Trilogy (which is quite appropriate for him, heh). That just goes to show how long it's been since I last saw a full-length Matrix film. ^_^; ~Dagger~
Really? I hate him. Well, I don't hate him, he's adorable, but the whole time I'm watching I'm just thinking, "Don't do that -- don't be so stupid -- don't -- ahhh!!!"
Haha, I started yelling at the screen as I watched last night's episode of Gundam SEED. By the time that Wolf's Rain came on, I was all Ann Landersed-out. The character who I have the most trouble liking would probably be Tsume. Actually, that's not true--even though I love the guy, his attitude really gets on my nerves. He just has such an enormous stick up his ***... sure, he's starting to soften up, but it wouldn't kill him to say something nice every once in a while. I normally don't mind Tsume-esque characters, so I think it's his immaturity that really bothers me. At least it's pretty clear that Kiba deserves to be the leader of their little group. Imagine what would happen if everyone was like Hige. :p ~Dagger~

I bought the first Saikano DVD ("Girlfriend") on Friday and ended up watching it into the wee small hours of the morning. The series captivated me even as I attempted to figure out whether or not I was going to like it. Unfortunately, Viz's release is plagued by all kinds of problems that reflect really poorly on the company and made me consider purchasing as few Viz products as I possibly can. First, the good news. Saikano's dub is enjoyable and (for the most part, anyway) quite accurate. All of the main VAs are well-cast in the sense that their voices sound very much like those of the original Japanese seiyuus. The English Shuji does a particularly excellent job. However, I'd still recommend watching the first few episodes both subbed and dubbed before deciding which version you want to follow. So far I appreciate the high-quality dub, but--for whatever reason--I like the Japanese voice cast more. The packaging and extras (which are allotted their own disc, something that rarely happens with domestic anime releases) are also fantastic. And now for the bad news. Viz's subtitles are extremely disappointing; they're sprinkled with typos and grammatical mistakes. Such errors may be expected and excusable in fansubs, but I was rather shocked to see them marring a professional release. Honorifics are left untranslated, so every time Chise says "Shu-chan," the subtitle that pops up says "Shuji." Obviously there's a reason that different people use different honorifics when addressing the main character, and Viz totally failed to account for this. I wouldn't have cared at all if their subtitles were otherwise flawless, yet the lack of song subtitles and liner notes to explain cultural references (one joke flew way over my head because I couldn't understand its context) just smacks of laziness. As for the actual show, I can really relate to the main characters. The one thing which doesn't ring true is the fact that they
chose to fall in love.
I can sort of understand how people their age would think that way, but the show over-emphasizes their decision, and after two or three episodes, it starts to feel less realistic and by extension makes them seem less sympathetic. ~Dagger~
-
I'm on such a Champloo high right now, heh. ^_^; Anyway, the background looks nice and subtle, and as usual you've chosen excellent fonts. But because it's rather faint, the word "future" is a little difficult to read. The cropping on the avatar is particularly nice, and I love how the animation reminds me of light flashing across the blade of a sword (it works well, although I'm not sure if that's the effect you were going for). ~Dagger~
-
While I'm all for a civilized discussion of dubs, I think that your complaints are overly general and that this thread lacks a clear purpose. In the future, please try to put more time and effort into your posts; it might also be helpful if you read OtakuBoards' rules before creating another topic. Just remember that Nelvana and 4Kids are the exception rather than the rule... most contemporary anime companies release fairly accurate and well-acted dubs. Thread closed. ~Dagger~

Aeris is one of my favorite characters in any video game or anime... I just love that girl. Naturally, I feel somewhat conflicted about whether or not I want her to
be resurrected. It would make me incredibly happy to see Aeris alive and well, but if executed poorly, such a storyline would render her death meaningless. Aeris made an amazing sacrifice during the original game (heh, I couldn't stop crying when I first reached the end of disc 1). Living or dead, she's a very significant character and is pretty much guaranteed to have some screen time--through flashbacks, visions, dreams or whatever--in Advent Children.
I'm also very fond of Tifa. I've always thought that her mini-bio in the FFVII booklet is breathtakingly inaccurate; Aeris is bright and optimistic, while Tifa is shy and almost angsty. But anyway, I hope that Advent Children (unlike FFVII) will receive a decent translation. ~Dagger~

Anime Samurai Champloo [from the creator of Cowboy Bebop]
Dagger replied to Dagger's topic in Otaku Central
...Samurai Champloo busts out a totally artistic and unreal swordfight experience that will leave you asking for more.
I particularly appreciated the fact that a lot of Mugen's techniques look like breakdancing moves. Little touches like that really add to the show's cutting-edge, quasi-urban vibe.
Samurai Champloo has already been licensed though I believe, so I wonder which "Rouge" fansub groups are going to pick it up .
Apparently Bakafish is the first. I've never heard of them before in my life, but this is no time to be choosy. Until some other groups start subbing it (as I'm positive they will), I think I'll just take what I can get. Ideally, though, I'd love to see what Anime-Kraze or Anime-Station would be capable of doing with this series. ~Dagger~
