Anime Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements
Dagger replied to Syk3's topic in Otaku Central
Exactly, Syk3. CN changes its line-up fairly frequently--just look at how many times Inuyasha has been taken off the air. It's very convenient to have a thread where one can find information on a number of shows. Besides, the schedules posted here are almost always accurate, both in terms of time and date. And I believe that people can also submit the latest news about which series have been licensed to which networks, etc. So this thread is actually extremely useful. ~Dagger~ -
Writing Today's Poem [M -- As a Precaution]
Dagger replied to Heaven's Cloud's topic in Creative Works
I remember how these two hands shaped the shadows into stories, soft furtive shapes flitting swiftly past the bedroom wall. It was dark, then. My sister touched my shoulder and wanted to be taught. She couldn't form the finger-twisting flowers that I made blossom before the hallowed nightlight. We pretended it was the fire of some great king's hall, and her hair shone under the flickering golden glow. She was small and bright and quick, her body all angles in its second-grade awkwardness. They were humid, those summer nights. Outside, the air lay warm and thick on my lungs as we snatched fistfuls of fireflies, two children plucking stars from the many-spangled sky. ~Dagger~ -
Wow.... that's absolutely gorgeous. I'm a huge fan of the Chobits manga, and I think you captured CLAMP's style perfectly. Yuzuki's hair looks especially nice. The shading is subtle and effective. My only comment would be that the dark lip coloring doesn't really suit Chi's personality. Anyway, great work! ~Dagger~

No, I never stated that I thought they could potentially get together. Sesshomaru/Kagome happens to be one of my least favorite non-canon couples. And nobody in his or her right mind would attempt to prove that something actually happened between them, because nothing did happen between them. Hope that helped to clear things up. ~Dagger~

I've seen the first volume of the Miyu OAVs--and I agree, they're far superior to the TV series, particularly considering their age. I love the concept and the character designs; I actually bought a Narumi Kakinouchi artbook before ever having heard of her work. The manga is fairly good, too, though not among my favorites. Now I just have to get around to buying the second volume. (They're from the show Shamanic Princess, which is among the most under-rated animes of all time. I can't recommend it enough. The girl on the left is Tiara; the girl on the right is called Sara.) Er..... anyway, about Saiyuki. If it compares favorably to Inuyasha and Yu Yu Hakusho, I'll certainly have to check it out, since I enjoy both of those shows. One last question, though: does it skew more towards action or comedy? Thanks for your patience. ^__^ ~Dagger~

Try taping Adult Swim--not the whole thing, just the shows you're interested in. I, too, have to wake up early, but that doesn't stop me from getting my Inuyasha or FLCL fix. A VCR can work wonders. ^_~ Anyway, it's my guess that Toonami's still doing alright in the ratings..... otherwise, CN probably would switch things around a bit. ~Dagger~

OOC: Sorry, terra. I guess I just got too into my character.... or something. >_< ************ Though the priest's eyes were sunken with age, they still gleamed with a shrewd, keen intelligence. And his smile had not lost its ability to soothe. Salome had known him since she was young, and he was perhaps the only person she trusted with all her heart. He was the one who had first nurtured her developing magical powers, who had encouraged her to face her visions without fear. If he did not understand her premonitions, then she was certain no one would. "And you are sure of this?" the priest asked quietly. Salome met his steady, piercing gaze. "Yes. Blood will soon be spilt. A new power is sweeping through these lands. The world will be thrown off-balance..." "I've heard the rumors," he mumured. "Tales of murder--but who would believe such a thing? In all my life, I've never seen one man kill another." "I've been having the same dream, over and over." She raised her hand, smoothing her raven hair. Her pallor increased as she spoke, though it would have been noticeable only to the most observant onlooker. "I--" The woman seized her throat, choking, her eyes suddenly wide with terror. The priest grabbed her arm, hurling healing energy at her as forcefully as he could. His magic was not meant to be used so abruptly, but he knew that she was strong; her body would hold up. But if the vision overwhelmed her, she might die--might collapse, catatonic, just as she had at the age of seven. That coma had lasted half a year. "Sendatu!" Salome fell to her knees, curling tightly around herself. Light enveloped her; a gentle, warm glow that concealed amazing power.

I'm waiting for more Yu Yu Hakusho episodes, too. However, many of them have already been dubbed, and the DVDs of the remainder of the Dark Tournament (both edited and unedited) were released a little while ago. I think the problem probably lies in FUNimation's deal with CT..... or something like that. Hopefully, Yu Yu Hakusho will eventually get back on the air. Taking Kenshin off of Toonami was a good idea, since it's a fairly bloody series, but I'm not sure whether the censors lightened up once it started showing on Saturdays. Toonami is, at the moment, far from enthralling--or even mildly interesting. Hey, at least we've got Adult Swim, right? ~Dagger~

I love Gravitation. ^__^ The artwork isn't stellar, but it's incredibly funny and sweet, which more than makes up for that one shortcoming. I agree; Shuichi is one of my favorite characters in any anime or manga. He may not be very bright, but he tries so hard to make everyone happy and do the right thing. He reminds me of Hideki from Chobits. Rhys Mayiessen: I'm really, really looking forward to reading Demon Diary. So I'm glad to hear that you liked it. ~Dagger~

I'll keep that in mind, shadowfire. The series sounds really interesting, and if it's anything like what I've read of the manga, it must be very good indeed. It's just a shame that the movie was a disappointment to so many fans. I believe that the manga's still running in Japan. For those of you who've been following it closely, do you think it's going to end anytime soon? ~Dagger~

Here's a banner focusing on the main character of the self-titled Vampire Princess Miyu OAVs. Like Tiara from Shamanic Princess, she's one of my favorite non-conventional magical girls. I thought red and black was an appropriate color scheme, what with her being a vampire and all. ^_~ Does anyone know where I can get some decent fonts? My edition of Photoshop (it's some odd half-baked version) doesn't have too many that I like. terra: Next time, I'll try making a small one. ^__^ ~Dagger~

Writing Today's Poem [M -- As a Precaution]
Dagger replied to Heaven's Cloud's topic in Creative Works
This day's sky clings to the horizon, gray cloud-banks spilling into a mass of distant trees. Somewhere else, fog hangs moist and cool in the rain-fragrant air. Here, there's only the taste of coming tears and those dove-colored clouds. It all feels so familiar. Like following Father's footprints through the snow. Like the scent of autumn smoke drifting thickly on the breeze. Maybe life just looks different when you're standing on the hot wet asphalt and steam rises hissing all around. Blurred vision melts the parking lot to watercolor. But you won't cry. You don't even know why that sky drips down to merge softly with the earth, all mud and hazy gray. ~Dagger~ -
I really enjoyed FFIX's love story. And yes, the characters are a bit more chibi-fied than those in FFVII and FFVIII. But it made for a nice change of pace, especially after all that angst. Zidane is just such a likeable guy. It's not exactly a challenging game, but I thought that the battle system was decent, and the plot was interesting enough to keep me playing. ~Dagger~
Originally posted by SuperS.Topher Does anyone know if cn will air DBGT in the future? Also for anyone out there who is listening, FLCL sucks. It is the worst ever!!!
Oh, really? Care to provide a little justification for that statement? It'll be replaced by Inuyasha on November 10, anyway. And JCBaggee is correct about DBGT. So be happy--you won't have to wait very long to see it. ~Dagger~ -
I agree. It was a fairly fun battle, but it was also completely random. It took me several tries to beat Nechron, simply because I hadn't initially been prepared to fight anyone after I was through with Kuja.
That status effects attack was pretty damn annoying, too
. I haven't finished playing it yet, but I've heard that FFIX borrows many elements from Final Fantasy IV. So perhaps looking into their similarities might shed light on why Squaresoft included that last boss. In any case, you've brought up a very good question. ~Dagger~

Those shows can be discussed in the Anime Lounge. I don't think that any of them but Inuyasha would be popular enough to sustain a separate, individual forum--and an Inuyasha forum would probably suffer from the same fate as the ill-reputed Yu Yu Hakusho forum. There's a Saiyuki thread in the Anime Lounge right now, so if you're a fan, perhaps you'd like to check it out. Anyway, welcome to OB. ^__^ ~Dagger~

I beg to differ. X: The Movie is an incredible piece of animation, with stunning artwork and interesting battles (well, for the most part). However, it has zero character development, and makes no sense whatsoever. And this is coming from a person who understood both Boogiepop Phantom and FLCL. The ending sequence was so poorly done that it actually made me burst out laughing. I haven't seen the anime series yet, but I've heard that it's far superior to the movie. I have read some of the manga, and like nearly all of CLAMP's work, it's captivating and wonderfully drawn. ~Dagger~

Er..... I don't think that what happened in "The Animal" was supposed to be scientifically plausible. The idea of gender-bending surgery does make me rather uncomfortable. It sounds extremely painful, to say the least. But if someone feels trapped in his/her own body, and is desparate enough to seek a sex change, he/she should be allowed to go through with it. I find it interesting that many of the people who choose to undergo these operations are middle-aged, and sometimes even married. Their husbands or wives rarely suspect a thing. It must be incredibly traumatic to conceal your true identity from your loved ones for so many long years. Whatever one's opinion on this matter may be, one must admit that openly changing sexes is an act of incredible personal courage. ~Dagger~

I took a chance on the Vampire Princess Miyu TV series.... and it turned out to be a total waste of money. Poor animation, a total lack of characterization, uninteresting dialogue--need I say more? >_< I'm interested in seeing Saiyuki, but I was planning on renting it. Anyway, what aspects of the show appealed to you? ~Dagger~
Originally posted by AngelWiN_Kagome Oh yeah, where in the world did this rumor of Sesshomaru + Kagome come from. They will never be a couple never ever. Kagome loves Inuyasha to much to go with Sesshomaru! And Inuyasha likes Kagome to much to ever separate with her. Besides Sesshomaru hates humans except for Rin of course.
It's called fanfiction, honey. ^_~ Some people like the idea of Sesshomaru/Kagome. It's definitely not a canon relationship.... but alternate pairings are rather popular these days. I wouldn't call it a "rumor," though, since I doubt that anyone in their right mind would attempt to prove that something actually happened between Sesshomaru and Kagome, whether in the anime or the manga. ~Dagger~
Originally posted by Arasoi I've done stories with couples that don't even make sense, either. I just like the idea of them together. Like T.K. and Davis, for example. They would never get together, seeing how they hate each other, but it was still fun to write. So...that's my little addition to this discussion.
As they say, there's a fine line between love and hate. ^___^ Many people find love/hate pairings appealing, whether they're yaoi, yuri, or het. For example, look at the Inuyasha fandom. Kagome and Sesshomaru seem to be an incredibly popular couple, despite the fact that they despise one another. So I wouldn't say that unlikely relationships are something unique to yaoi fanfiction. It's just that many people prefer to think of yaoi pairings as being unlikely, simply because they're yaoi. ~Dagger~

David Beckham (the soccer star) is often cited as a typical metrosexual male. I've heard of that South Park episode, but haven't seen it. Anyway, I don't really understand how the increasing acceptance of metrosexuality could help to alleviate homophobia. After all, metrosexual guys are, by definition, straight--they're just better groomed than most other het males. ~Dagger~

I wish that Sony would just work on making a really, really good console, rather than a (most likely) mediocre all-in-one machine. The Tivo-type capabilities actually sound pretty tempting.... but why not just get Tivo? And if you already had a DVD player, why would you need another one? I doubt it'll worth the money. ~Dagger~

Wow. Your Homestar Runner banner is absolutely amazing. The timing is just right, and it's incredibly funny. The blue lines look perfect, by the by. ^__^ I also like the Tsukasa banner. The scan lines are a really cool-looking effect, and it's good that you didn't let the numbers in the background overpower the image of Tsukasa. Nice color scheme, too--the dark blues and grays lend it a somber, thoughtful sort of mood, much like that of the actual show. ~Dagger~

"Fire," Anubis said absently, brushing his fingers over the blackened remains of a once-imposing colonnade. "Or brimstone, perhaps. Gives it a rather apocalyptic flair." Leile made a face at the mage's back. He was too calm; completely at ease with himself and his surroundings. It was always the quiet ones who turned out to be homicidal maniacs, right? After less than an hour of walking, they had begun to approach the castle at the center of the city. Aissa suspected magic, but said nothing. She needed more rest before her powers would return in full, and there was little point in questioning whether or not Anubis was attempting to ease the strain on her still-weakened body. He probably wouldn't give a straight answer, anyway. A stone sculpture shattered instantly at Anubis' touch. He crouched, dipping his hand into the small pile of dust and ash.... it was already drifting away on a fresh gust of bitter, biting wind. "It started with a shock wave," he murmured. It seemed as though he were speaking more to himself than to the two of them. Leile hugged herself as she listened, trying to ward off the vast and incomprehensible loneliness that clung to what was left of this empty city. "A shock wave," Anubis repeated softly. "Rippling through the ground.... it started at the center, at the palace. Then another one--stronger and farther-reaching than the first. They grew more intense, but the rhythm remained the same; it was like a heartbeat. But that rhythm broke, and an earthquake was unleashed. "Next, came the fire." He pointed at the colonnade, about to continue.... yet remained silent. "Food, shelter, and clean water," the mage said suddenly, turning around and planting his staff firmly on the ground. His tone of voice had changed completely, from dark and grave to brisk and businesslike. "Very little of that to be found here. All the same, it would behoove us to begin searching. I think we may need to spend the night."
