Lost

Before I say anything about the most recent episode, I have a question... can anyone explain what's up with the fake Hanso corporation ads (both on TV & in print; I recently saw a full-page one in the Washington Post) and the book called Bad Twin? Is it the manuscript that Sawyer was reading? Is the Hanso corporation website worth visiting? Is the book itself worth taking a look at? My mom is convinced that Disney wants to make a Lost into a theme park or a theme park ride, haha. Personally, I just want to see a Lost world in the next Kingdom Hearts game. *dodges*
"Because you're the closest thing I have to a friend, Doc."
Awww.... :) ~Dagger~
  2.
The only thing I am a little bit confused on is that I though that XII was suppose to be comming out sooner, yet at E3 they come out with XIII and I am all confused. Are they going to skip XII and go straight to XIII?[/SIZE']
Heh... interestingly, you're not the first person I've encountered who has gotten confused about this. XII was announced a long time ago, although it hasn't been released yet. It's going to be coming out for the PS2. ~Dagger~
  3. First off, you should go check out the Otaku Lounge Rules sticky before posting again. This thread has no particular subject or direction, which means that it won't be able to foster a quality discussion. As the original poster, you should be trying to set a good example for others. Also, please keep in mind that double-posting isn't allowed. If you ever need to add new information, and you're still the last person to have posted in the thread in question, you can always edit your most recent post. Feel free to private message me or one of the other staff members with additional questions, concerns, etc. OB places an emphasis on post quality, so although there's nothing wrong with fun threads, they need to address an actual topic. Thanks. Thread closed. ~Dagger~
  4. Yes. The anime is superior in some ways, since it sticks very closely to the manga while adding perks like excellent directing, smooth movement, great background music, etc. However, the manga contains more stories than those covered by the anime (although they may not start appearing until the third volume; I'd have to go check to be sure). So if you like the anime, I'd get the manga as well; it offers a similar experience. ~Dagger~
  5. I'm glad that you enjoyed the second volume even without seeing the first volume. The series is only three volumes in total, so if you were able to understand what was happening in volume 2, you might as well move forward and see volume 3 before going back to the beginning. And you can go ahead and create a Gunslinger Girl thread in the manga forum. Ain't nothing wrong with that. :) ~Dagger~
  6. This topic has started to stray pretty far from its original purpose, and any further discussion of hypothetical titles will only heighten the risk of confusing people, so... bam. Closed. :) I would also venture to suggest that--however harmless it may be--discussion of personal post counts & post count rankings is in rather poor taste. Those who find themselves burning with curiosity about it can always have a look at the Members List. Thread closed. ~Dagger~
  7. Retri beat me to saying it, but the new background is so much better than the old one. It adds a different flavor to the whole image. Aside from some grammatical criticism, the only other thing I would change is the position of the MGS character's hand. I don't like how it breaks up the logo; it makes the "GAM" and the "EREF" seem to be located on different levels--which would be fine if they were separate words (i.e. "GAME" and "REF"), but since they aren't, it's visually awkward. ~Dagger~
  8. Hargreaves. I kind of cheated on that one, haha; I had to go look at my Godchild GN to make sure I was spelling it correctly. Anyway, you get bonus points for referencing something related to Kaori Yuki. New scramble: iodkeal rats Hint: "This Sora is working on honing her trapeze skills, not defeating the Heartless." And if you need more help...
the show has its own stock avatar category.
~Dagger~
  9. Egads! Death Note is over! The series has ended with 108 chapters, as I mentioned in my previous post--a nice, tidy length for such a popular Jump manga. Chapter 108 is basically there to provide a gentler landing. If anyone else has followed DN this far, one of the main points to discuss is whether or not
the girl in the final panel is Misa.
I believe that
she is,
but others feel that
she's just a generic representation of a Kira follower.
Any theories/ideas? ~Dagger~
  10. I'll just join the chorus and say that I love, love, love Ouran. BONES! Cross-dressing! Does it get any better than this? (No, it doesn't.) Haruhi is such a refreshing and glomp-able female lead, and Tamaki is the stuff of which legends are made. I also love the twins and Kyouya... well, actually, I guess I just have a thing for those poor "homo side characters." :animesmil The funny characters keep coming, from Renge (my new idol and heroine) to Nekozawa. For me, the highlight of the series so far was
Renge's film
in episode 4 (which had bizarre parallels to the scenario of the first episode of Haruhi Suzumiya!). I laughed until I was almost in tears, and then I kind of just wanted to cry. It was exactly like Media Blasters' tagline for Genshiken: "It's only funny because it's true... It only hurts because it's true." ~Dagger~
  11. I finished re-watching Loveless recently, thanks to the American release of volume 3. I'm really going to miss the "Ohayou, Loveless-kun!" feature. :catgirl: Anyway, one of the things that struck me this time through is that episode 11 is arguably the single most important episode in the series. The first time I saw it, it didn't make much of an impression on me--I mean, I thought it was funny and well-constructed, but I was just too eager to see episode 12 to devote much more thought to it. So as I sat down with my DVD, I was completely surprised by how much episode 11 touched me. It made such a big impression on me that I nearly went and wrote a theO article about its significance (the almighty forces of inertia were more than enough to counteract that particular impulse, however). So much of Ritsuka's character development culminates toward the end of episode 11, when he thinks wonderingly about
how much he has come to like everyone.
And the rest of it, of course, is clinched in episode 12. By the way, CoLoR_Me_EviL... your banner is the shiz. ~Dagger~
  12.
After an administrator would find you fit for the job. If you show quality posting and efoort, they might (might).
Yeah, pretty much. It depends on a variety of factors, including whether or not we even need new mods in the first place. And don't call us--we'll call you. ;) ~Dagger~
  13.
Has anyone read anything by Lily Hoshino?
I've read one or two of her one-shots, but not anything that's been released in the US. She has an interesting and distinctive art style, but it doesn't really appeal to me. Anyway, though, I just finished the first volume of The Art of Loving (yeah, the first--I had no idea that this was a two volume title!). I liked it quite a bit, and I was especially pleased to see that it has at least one major connection to Taishi Zaou and Eiki Eiki's Color. In fact, the short omake chapter at the end was another collaboration between them! DMP did a great job of translating all of the extras and freetalks at the end; as a major Zaou/Eiki fangirl, I was very grateful. As for the actual story, it's definitely the darkest Eiki Eiki manga I've read. The characters are very interesting, and the main couple gets bonus points for being reversible. Most of the plot seems to be framed as a flashback, with one character narrating the present day material and the other character narrating the flashback. Because almost the entire volume takes place in the past, you really get into the head of the flashback narrator. This is important, because he's incredibly twisted, at least on the inside. The manga doesn't make light of or romanticize the fact that he's an unmitigated jerk, either, which gave me that lovely "watching a train wreck" feeling as a I read it--I couldn't stop turning the pages! Seriously, though, I commend Eiki Eiki for not shying away from such a harsh (and almost frightening) portrayal of her protagonist. Amusingly, the reason that Taishi Zaou isn't involved in the series proper is because the protagonist creeped her out. On that note, though, DMP used male pronouns when referring to her. I'm wondering if that's from actual knowledge of her gender, or if it's just a guess based on her pen name. It'll be interesting to see what they use for her shoujo pen name (Tsuda Mikiyo), as they've licensed both The Day of Revolution and Princess Princess. I also read the second chapter of Fake Fur recently. It was great, of course; I love the simple, poignant grace of Satomi Yamagata's writing. And now I have Earthian volume 3 waiting for me--I'm looking forward to it! ~Dagger~
  14.
I cannnot picture him in an anime at all. I mena think about it he is an Xbox character. Xbox was geared towards us hot blooded wanna shoot everything americans. Anime is japanese. So not only would microsoft not wanna I doubt any anime company would either. Also look at cheifs out fit and the character types. Freakish alien monsters,The flood, and AMERICAN BASED space marines. It would not work.
Not that I really care about whether Halo gets animated or not, but I'm puzzled about why you think these elements would limit it as an anime. There are plenty of anime and manga that deal with American situations, locales and characters. Some do it better than others, obviously, but for a property like Halo, I doubt they'd get stuff wrong. Heck, "freakish alien monsters" are practically a staple of anime. "Hot-blooded wanna shoot everything" could serve as a good description for more than a few anime series (Black Lagoon is the perfect example of this!). I can't say I see the contradiction. ~Dagger~
  15.
The first batch are from Ouran High School Host Club which is a wonderful little anime that needs more love.
Wai! Ouran goodness! :catgirl: I like the Kyouya banner; the animated version seems a little pointless, but you did tell us that you were experimenting. It would be neat if there were a constant effect going in the background behind him--for example, a soft rain-like animation (this is a fairly common effect, so I assume it's not too advanced). But no matter. I don't really care for the color scheme on the Tamaki-sama banner. The purple, the olive green, the red, the blue... it's a little too much. Overall, though, great work. Just by doing something Ouran-related, you got me to post in this forum for the first time in ages. ~Dagger~
  16. We take forum games on a case-by-case basis; it's better if they encourage people to write at least a sentence and put a little thought into it. Here, for instance, it would have been preferable if you encouraged respondents to say something more personalized, rather than a generic "Fred is nice." Also, since this has nothing to do with anime, it would normally belong in the Otaku Lounge. So I'm locking the thread for these two reasons. If you have any questions, feel free to private message me or one of the other staff members. Thanks! Thread closed. ~Dagger~

Yeah... that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the shape of the plushie. Although it looks kind of like Chiyo's dad as well, thanks to the ears. :animeswea ~Dagger~

    Lost

Holy crap. That was a really intense episode... is the finale coming up soon? Wait, next week isn't the finale, is it? :animestun
Ana Lucia having sex with Sawyer
left me reeling, but that was nothing compared to how I reacted when
Ana Lucia and Libby were shot. Libby definitely seems to be a goner... I suppose there isn't much hope for Ana Lucia, either, because this episode focused on her. If one of them was going to live, though, it would have to be her. I wonder how they'll show Libby's story now? Ever since it was revealed that she was in the same institution as Hurley, I've been very curious about her.
It's unfortunate that
Locke will probably lose the added edge he had with John right after getting it. Anyway, what on earth is Michael planning on telling them? That Henry somehow got Ana Lucia's gun and then escaped? I expected him to leave with Henry, but I guess the Others still want to have an inside man.
I'm also questioning just how much
Michael really knows. If he's trusting the Others to this extent, I assume he at least got to see Walt, in which case he must be aware that they're not just living out in the jungle and so forth. Henry's comments throughout the episode were another point of interest; hard though it is to believe anything he says, I think he was being completely sincere when he defended the morality of his side (even if it came off as being more weird and cultish than anything else). So that introduces yet another element of moral ambiguity. Will Michael just stay and watch his friends stroll into a (death?) trap?
I won't make any predictions at this point... ~Dagger~
  19. This was a timely thread revival, because.... *dramatic drumroll* The "Original Unaltered Trilogy" is coming to DVD in September! I am so getting this. I'm also absolutely stunned--but I must bow to their superior powers of franchise-milking genius. I can finally lay my VHS box set to rest. ~Dagger~
  20.
Although I am unusure of how official it is, but I've been reading around that the Nippon Television Network will be adapting Death Note into anime for this coming Fall 2006 [October, maybe']. If so, then yay!
Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this. Hopefully they'll get a good animation studio and suitable voice actors. Depending on how they handle the series (and flesh out events from the manga), I'm guessing that they could make it fit pretty comfortably in 52 episodes. 70 would probably be the absolute maximum the writers could aim for while still maintaining a good pace. We'll see. And Death Note has ended--or, rather, will end as of the next issue of SJ, with 108 chapters total! Incidentally, seeing the number 108 always makes me think of Lost... :animeswea Looking back, I believe that Chapter 104 is my favorite installment of the series. I love how things have played out as Death Note reaches its finale.
Yes, I have totally become a Death Note fan. I finished reading volume 5 and am ready for the next. You know, I am SO impatient now that I am even considering starting to download the chapters. But...I should resist. Moderation makes it more fun, right?
I couldn't make any kind of response to this without sounding like a total hypocrite, haha. But I will say that whatever you choose to do, Death Note seems to produce the most favorable effect when you marathon it. So I'd advise you to either keep on reading the graphic novels, or make sure that you have a decent number of chapters at your disposal before you dive back in. ~Dagger~
  21.
If the rest of the series keeps this level of quality up, I can tell it's going to be one of my new favourites!
The first episode is obviously kind of different from what follows
(or is it?),
but in terms of sheer quality, I think the series is quite consistent. Also... I loved episode 5! I think it's my favorite episode so far. It picks up where episode 3 left off, and the directing style of Yuki's explanation at the beginning is very Eva-esque (with hints of Utena and Melody of Oblivion as well). I also liked how they showed
Haruhi's jealousy.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Storms Amazon.JP The first seven Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu novels by Nagaru Tanigawa, on which the new TV series is based, have ranked highly on Amazon Japan's best seller list. The books, which were released between June 2003 and August 2005 have been ranked 5-11 for a week now on a list that updates every hour. They are kept out of the top spot only by the pre-order of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and various editions of The Davinci Code. The novels rank in their release order (from volume 1 in fifth position to volume 7 in eleventh position). The newest book in the series, The Resentment of Haruhi Suzumiya (Suzumiya Haruhi no Fungai / 涼宮ハルヒの憤慨), released on April 28, is not yet ranked in Amazon's best sellers list.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yutsu OP Ranks In Oricon Top 10 The single featuring 18 year old Aya Hirano's Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu TV series Opening Theme Boken Deshodesho has hit 10th place on Oricon's Daily CD singles ranking chart. The release was made April 26, 2006.
Next on Haruhi's To Do list... world domination!
Oh, wait...
~Dagger~
  22. Yeah, I thought it was Ali Project. Hence why I wished that Kajiura was the one doing the music. Episode 4: Yes! I'm so happy that
Tabby got PK'd. Too bad that it couldn't be permanent...
and I do kind of hope it was Ender, because she's really very cool. I want to see a lot more of her and Goad/Gord. Is it just me, or did it seem that a different team of artists worked on episode 4? The differences weren't horribly jarring, but there were some discrepancies between how the characters (especially Shino & Haseo) looked and the original models. It was most noticeable around the eyes. ~Dagger~
  23.
(I don't know what my problem is these days.... In most of these animes that has a high amount of fans, I don't ever seem to like the main stars.)
I agree with you--not necessarily when it comes to FMA, but certainly quite a few other shows... I had to stop watching Fate/stay night because although I appreciated the other characters, I absolutely couldn't stand the male lead. I also find that shounen action series tend to have interesting supporting characters but less interesting main characters; this might have to do with the fact that there doesn't seem to be much room for variety when it comes to shounen heroes. As for FMA, my favorite characters are Envy (in the TV series) and Al (in the movie). At least I think that sounds about right. ~Dagger~
  24. Your question is, as Doukeshi implied, more or less unanswerable. If you want to know whose myO page looks the best by your standards, I suggest that you start doing some independent investigation. Please also keep in mind that "like the title says" is never an acceptable way to start a new thread, regardless of which forum you're in. Thread closed. ~Dagger~
  25. I don't have much of an opinion either way. I don't go to any of those stores to buy clothes, because they're generally beyond my price range, and nothing about the clothing attracts me... at least no more so than clothing from any other store. I also agree with Sara's comment about logos. Target & online retailers are the way to go. ~Dagger~
