That is not true at all. The ending of Rahxephon and evangelion are All most the ezact samething the
human filling other humans souls.[/spoiler']
Huh? If that's what you think, you need to see RahXephon again. I won't delve into the nitty gritty details, but the way the two shows wrap themselves up couldn't be more different, regardless of whether you're talking about their TV endings or their movie endings. ~Dagger~
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oAUuDmRb1M
Her "Onii-sama!" has always been my favorite part of that (and yet why does it make me feel so dirty?). I saw a great fan-animation that had Yoshino from Maria-sama ga Miteru going through the exact same motion. So infectiously cute. So moe! Then again, this is one of those songs that I don't really enjoy listening to on its own. It's best when it has the animation accompanying it. ~Dagger~
Um isn't that a contridiction?
Not necessarily! In fact, some series like to play around with that perceived contradiction. Elfen Lied features adorable girls dismembering innocent bystanders and each other. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni looks rather like a regular harem comedy, but it's the scariest anime I've ever seen, and that's thanks largely to its sweet, cute, harmless-looking female characters. The petite elementary schoolers of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha & Nanoha A's are capable of technomagic attacks that would put most angsty, brooding RPG heroes to shame. ~Dagger~

EDIT: Argh, you beat me to it! :p Yeah, the true authorship of all four Biblical Gospels is questionable. In that light, the fact that this text could almost certainly not have been written by Judas himself means almost nothing. ~Dagger~
The similarity effect is the animes that repeat the same shows. For example Evangelion and Rahxephon if you watch both of them back to back it is like watching the same anime twice. has anyone noticed this effect in other animes.
Or you could put it this way: shows from the same genre tend to be similar. Not to be rude, but this isn't some remarkable phenomenon like chaos theory or whatever. :p But to treat your topic seriously, the first series that came to mind for me were works associated with Kunihiko Ikuhara, Yoji Enkido, et al. Ikuhara directed Revolutionary Girl Utena and several seasons of Sailor Moon (I thought it was just S and Super S, but maybe I'm wrong?). Yoji Enkido took care of scripting duties for many episodes of Sailor Moon; he had an even bigger role in writing for Utena and Melody of Oblivion. Now he's working on Ouran High School Host Club. There aren't overt storyline similarities between Utena and Sailor Moon, but you can really see how Ikuhara drew on ideas that he had previously experimented with in Sailor Moon when he created Utena. For instance, Haruka's car is a great example of this. Many of the Sailor Moon S enemy attacks are done in a surreal, comedic style that made me, as an Utena fan, feel weirdly nostalgic. Similar sexual undertones (which are more overt in Utena) can be found in Sailor Moon as well. Melody of Oblivion has been admiringly called Revolutionary Boy Bocca, and that's not too far off the mark. It's clear that Yoji Enkido had Utena in mind as he wrote it. Pleasantly enough, comparisons between Utena and MoO are usually phrased in a way that compliments both series. But anyway, it's virtually impossible not to notice the stylistic similarities. Enkido is also on the staff of Ouran High School Host Club. While it's much more down-to-earth and light-hearted than something like MoO, I agree with those who have labeled it a post-Utena series. The visual metaphors used in each episode are the most obvious instances of Ouran having been influenced by Utena. ~Dagger~

Allow me to clarify a couple of things. Anime discussion belongs in the Anime Lounge. Any questions related to anime suggestions should be posted to this current thread, handily titled "Anime Suggestions." The forum you're in right now is called Suggestions & Feedback. Its description says: "Use this forum to suggest how we could improve the site. Also, use this forum to ask any questions about OB." So it really has nothing to do with anime. If you're still confused, please PM me or one of the Anime Lounge moderators for a longer explanation. Thanks. Thread closed. ~Dagger~

Episode 3: It was going great... right up until that horrible insert song! Where's Yuki Kajiura when you really need her? But it's going to be interesting to see whether the
legendary weapon
moniker will have any relationship whatsoever to reality. ~Dagger~
I think I need to some Valium to stop the shapes spinning behind my eyelids.
:animesmil Episode 4 really threw me for a loop--it didn't seem to bother many other viewers, but I just couldn't get over the time jump.* On the other hand, this was the funniest baseball-related episode I've seen since Samurai Champloo #23 and Princess Nine #13. I've been told that the anime's story is being presented in more or less the same fashion as it is in the novels--that is, completely out of order. Apparently Haruhi's episode numbering system is the correct one, after all! I'll have to keep an eye on that in the future. I did feel jarred at first, but there were a lot of nice, inconspicuous visual clues regarding the passage of time. Also, I like the fact that it keeps you on your toes; I just hope that they go back and fill in the gaps at a later point. I should have known better than to expect this series to reveal information in the usual way (e.g., through an Itsuki introduction episode). One of the best moments was when
Haruhi randomly bit Mikuru's ear,
but I also laughed at all of the Yuki-related parts. *Originally I had this spoiler-tagged, but it doesn't actually reveal anything to leave it uncovered. Does anyone mind? ~Dagger~
I seriously don't think it is possibly to just say someone is Chinese or Malaysian or Korean or Vietnamese by looking at them. ...It's not possible... right?
That's a touchy subject for some people, but I think this site casts a pretty interesting light on it. Try taking the test. As for me, I got far less than half of them right. At Chinese & Japanese restaurants, grocery stores, etc., people usually start addressing my mom in those languages, automatically assuming that she's Chinese or Japanese. ~Dagger~

Volume 6 was excellent! And disturbing and tragic, and all those other lovely things I've come to associate with Gilgamesh. I really enjoyed the episodes about what happened before XX. I was impressed by how the writers managed to work that information in; it was genuinely interesting, even though I was basically already familiar with the outcome. I'm just sad that there's only disc left. The show has maintained an impressive pace throughout, and even with the revelations coming quickly, it doesn't feel too rushed. The story about how
Reiko gave her eyes to her grandfather
was supremely eerie. One thing I'm not sure I quite understand is how Kazamatsuri's warriors
were made from sheep,
but the way in which the director linked them visually was certainly creepy... ADV's DVD inserts are turning out to be quite informative. I think I'll read them all carefully once I finish the series. ~Dagger~

Heh, good, I was waiting for some people to post. :catgirl: I finished volume 1 yesterday, and I'm glad that I bought it. Episode 2 provided the main hook for the rest of the show (or however many episodes to come), whereas episodes 3 through 5 were more laid-back. But that doesn't mean they weren't interesting. One element I particularly appreciated was how Renton's first real piloting experience was treated with an unusual realism. In that sense, his induction into (the?) Gekko State reminded me of what happens when Tetsu enters the Shinsengumi in Peacemaker. It'll be a while before he can hope to keep up with Eureka, at least consciously... Talho and Holland are awesome--I'm sure most of the adult characters are, actually. But what about Those Kids? People sure love to rant about them, but they didn't seem that horrible to me... or has their fairly minimal presence on this disc just lulled me into a false sense of security? Also, does anyone know why they're using that particular pronunciation for "Eureka"? I assume it mirrors the Japanese pronunciation, but it still seems odd. ~Dagger~

Why bother, though? If you don't feel like giving back to the people who helped produce the series (instead of random bootleggers), there are plenty of ways to acquire it for free. Or if the OP lives in America, he can just start watching Naruto on TV to try it out. I don't understand the point of spending money on pirated anime. But, well, that's just my two cents. ~Dagger~

ANN's Haruhi information Official Japanese site Haruhi ED dance steps Live-action Haruhi dance Gundam parody dance Haruhi & Gundam comparison With that out of the way, onward ho! The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu) is a new comedy anime based on a series of light novels. The titular character is a girl whose obsession with aliens, ESPers, time travelers and the like drives her to start a peculiar school club called the SOS Brigade. (On a side note, the show's official site is supposed to resemble the SOS Brigade's website--that's why it looks so bad.) However, the narrator is Kyon, who plays the straight man to Haruhi. He's a regular sort of guy, but he manages to strike up a friendship with her anyway... although what it comes down to is that she basically just treats him like a servant. The SOS Brigade starts to acquire new members through Haruhi's manuvering, but things aren't quite as they seem. Oh, and the girls dress up in bunny suits from time to time. I motion that we start referring to Episode 00 as Episode 1, so as to avoid confusion. By most reports, Haruhi will be 14 episodes in total. Anyway, the first episode is an amusing and very clever send-up of cheaply made movies--the kind a severely misguided film student might produce. While the series launches into its normal pattern in episode 2, the production values are excellent throughout, thanks to KyoAni--and it really is funny, which is more than I can say for most anime comedies. At least so far, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is a great show, and it's certainly taken the online community by storm. ~Dagger~

I removed the link in your post, as we don't allow linking to scanlations (licensed or otherwise). :) I have read the pilot, although that was a while ago, and I don't recall all the details. Before
L's death,
some fans speculated that L was actually a grown-up version of Taro. That could have been a cool twist, but I prefer to take the view that the pilot chapter & the series take place in different story universes. The
Death Eraser
was a needlessly silly plot device, and I think it was probably thrust in just so the pilot could have a "safe" resolution. I wouldn't like for it to show up in the series; it would feel out of place, anyway. I doubt the manga will be ending anytime soon, given its popularity (deja vu... did I post this before?). The main problem with it at the moment is that for it to keep going the way it has been,
Near will have to get taken down pretty soon.
It would be cool if
Near got the advantage in such a way as to turn Light into a fugitive, or at least decisively make him the underdog.
Another plot twist that could completely revitalize Death Note (or else kill it prematurely, haha) would be
Light's death.
I wouldn't put it past the writer, but it's unfeasible simply because
no suitable replacement has shown up yet.
Unfortunately,
the nature of the plot itself gives him immunity.
I'm still enjoying Death Note right now (especially the most recent chapters!), but it will become stale if it degenerates into an endless saga of
Light eliminating the Alphabets, one by one.

Matt
doesn't seem like a particularly important character to me, although I like his design. I'd put him at about the same level of significance as
Hal, Aber and Weddy... which means that his chances of death are pretty high.
That could change, of course. -------------------------------------------------- Okay, I just got up to Chapter 102: Patience, and I had to bump this. Many more fans now seem to believe that the series will end soon, given recent developments. I don't know what to think--the writer has certainly poured a lot of effort into building up the
climactic showdown between Light and Near,
but somehow I just can't see it ending here. Maybe 103 will change my mind. Either way, right now I'm really, really rooting for
Near, even though I wasn't a big fan of him at first. Each time it seems as if he's succeeding, my spirits soar, and as soon as Light pulls out another one of his hideous evil smirks, I feel crestfallen. At the same time, I want DN to keep going, which is rather contradictory. Since 102 mostly stuck with Light's POV, I'm guessing that Near is going to pull something downright amazing out of his *** in the next chapter. And even if it wasn't the crux of his plan at all, the notebook replacement revelation
was one of the best minor twists in the whole series. It totally took me by surprise. It's a shame that
Mello & Matt
had to go with such little fanfare. Ohba is certainly ruthless when it comes to getting rid of certain characters. Oh well, at least
"Takada-sama"
is also out of the picture.
Vive la Misa~!
EDIT: Also,
that L mask
is beyond creepy. I almost screamed out loud the first time I saw it. But that aside,
all the little references to L
made me very happy. :catgirl: ~Dagger~

If you want to buy Naruto legally, you'll have to wait until this July, which is when the first uncut box set (with episodes 1 through 13) will come out. Don't waste your money on bootlegs. :) ~Dagger~

La Esperanca volume 2 is worth it, although it doesn't develop the Robert/Georges relationship any further, besides them becoming more like regular friends. There are four chapters in it; the first is about Henri, while the second involves a new character called Chris. The last two are a side story about Erwin, his roommate (Joshua) and a girl from outside the school. Despite appearances, the side story isn't a simple het romance. I liked it a lot--it's very clever and funny in how it plays with your expectations. Another aspect of the series I enjoy is that despite Georges' purity and virtue and so forth, his blind faith in people isn't always affirmed. So instead of seeming like some perfect angel, he just seems stupid and naive, and even he realizes this. That keeps him from being too annoying. ~Dagger~

Episode 2: Nothing much happened here, so all it really allowed me to do was solidify my impressions of some of the characters. I still like Haseo, but I hope that Tabby dies a painful death as soon as possible. If I had to pick a favorite at this point, it would probably be Ovan (Shino isn't bad, either). It would be nice if the purple-haired man gets a recurring role;
the way he ambushed Haseo
and his playful banter were the most entertaining parts of the episode. ~Dagger~
comic party isn't a yaoi, it's more shujo then anything, cos there is only two guys in it. Comic party is basically i guy who wants to be a manga artist and he goes to conventions and thing to learn more about it and then he starts making his own comics.
Not to nitpick, but Comic Party is based on an ero-game. So it's definitely not shoujo. :animeswea Has anyone seen the Kizuna OVA, and if so, is it worth buying? I'm thinking of getting the new Kazuma Kodaka Signature Edition, but if it's not that great, I may as well just head right into the manga. Of course, I've also heard that the manga has been edited slightly (?), so that might not be the best route to take either... ~Dagger~
Well, I was talking with one of my friends and he said Last Exile was a pretty amazing series. I was just wondering though are all the DVDs out for that yet or not? Gah! So many series to choose I'm having a hard time deciding! :animecry:
Out of the shows that you've mentioned so far, I think Last Exile is definitely the best. It's an epic story with engaging characters, great visuals and some good twists. All of the DVDs are out in America (and a box set has also been released), but I don't know about elsewhere. You can read some reviews for the series here. Last Exile's CG is incorporated well (almost as nicely as that of GitS: SAC), but you may not like it if you have problems with the use of CG effects in anime. ~Dagger~
Off topic: Johnny Yong Bosch is in Fafner as Kazuki? It seems to fit, but I can't say for certain as I've only watched the sub. Now I wanna buy the DVDs as soon as I can, just to see how this works out.
He's good... but the dub as a whole isn't all that great. I'm watching it, but that's basically only because I'm a Fafner fan to begin with, so it doesn't turn me off from the show itself. It's kind of strange, because I can't say that any one actor is really terrible, but the English cast just doesn't click very well, ya know? Or maybe it's just me. :animeswea Scooting back on topic, I'm hoping to receive the first E7 DVD tomorrow. It ought to be a fun watch. ~Dagger~

Just to add to this... oftentimes, when a mod closes a thread, he'll say something that amounts to, "Next time, try doing _____ to prevent future topics from being locked." If it's been closed after just a couple of posts, and the original poster so desires, he can recreate that exact same thread afterward. As long as he follows the moderator's suggestions, there shouldn't be anything barring the second version of the thread from staying open. I don't think what you mentioned would be impossible or anything, Kioky. For the most part, though, it should be easier to create the thread again (with the appropriate changes). ~Dagger~
