1. Look, saiyukigod, it doesn't make any sense to ask one question in the thread and a totally different one in the poll. I've edited the poll options to reflect the topic actually being discussed here. It would become unwieldy if we included every single AS anime ever, so I opted to just put up those I know to be currently airing. I'm sure I probably forgot something, so anyone should feel free to send a PM my way if you notice that a current show is missing. I voted for Fullmetal Alchemist. It's actually the only AS series I watch with any regularity, since I've been sticking to the DVDs for Samurai Champloo and Ghost in the Shell TV. I would have tried to keep up with s-CRY-ed, but my summer trip interrupted it just one episode in. Since I really liked what I saw of it, at this point I may as well just buy the re-release rather than try to catch up with the TV broadcast. ~Dagger~
  2. As we clearly indicate in our Rules, advertising is not permitted. Your best course of action is to just stick a note about it in your signature. :) Thread closed. ~Dagger~

    Lost

So I'm a little behind the times (which is to say that I just finished the pilot episode), but Lost seems like a very interesting show, and I'm looking forward to catching up with it on DVD. It comes across as being an odd crossbreed of a lot of earlier stuff... even so, it works pretty well on its own. Also,
OMGWTFPOLARBEAR!!11!!!
I had to do it. :animeblus ~Dagger~
  4.
Wow that's odd I wasn't aware they were making a movie, I'll have to see that. So was it basically the mini series but a lot longer?
Well, the mini-series is 12 hours long (or something like that), so actually the movie (which clocks in at two hours or so, if I remember correctly) is much shorter. The most obvious difference, aside from the fact that the film's script is much tighter and the characters are played by different people, is in the production values. The movie just looks more... uh, cinematic. :animeswea ~Dagger~
  5. Just came back from seeing the new Pride & Prejudice movie. It was amazing. I know everyone loves the mini-series, but I actually thought this was much better--even the male lead was as good as (if not superior to) Colin Firth. And Keira Knightley was just riveting. Strong cinematography, great music, classic dialogue... I was thoroughly impressed, and my attention almost never wandered (which is rare for me, when it comes to lengthy movies). I was surprised and gratified by how intact they kept the plot. So if you haven't watched this, I urge you to do so. And if you have, what did you think of it? ~Dagger~
  6.
Anyway, today's my[/i'] birthday, Dagger. Feel guilty! >:3
*headdesk* No way! I had no idea. This is exactly the kind of thing I meant... Well, um, happy birthday anyway. :animecry:
Good idea, Dagger. you are a genius! Where do you get all your ideas from? :animesmil
Color me flattered. But like I said in my first post, this particular idea took about as much creativity as visiting another forum and thinking, "Hm, we could try that." ~Dagger~
  7. As the "Today's Birthdays" list gets bigger and bigger, it becomes harder to suddenly realize, "Oh, it's so-and-so's birthday." And I have to confess that, at least speaking for myself, I rarely check it. Add that to a general tendency to forget about birthdays, and you have a recipe for guilt. :p Here's my suggestion. I've been to forums where, when someone has a birthday, a icon (such as a little cake or whatever) appears in their postbit just for that day. What would y'all think of having something like that? I don't know whether it's feasible with the software we're using, but I thought I'd throw it out there. ~Dagger~
  8. Salty Bob, don't make personal attacks. That was completely uncalled for. On this note, I'd like to remind everyone that this is not a thread for debating the morality (or lack thereof) of homosexuality. While a certain degree of that is perhaps inevitable, please try to stick to the original topic. And just be sensitive about how you phrase your opinions. Thanks. ~Dagger~
  9. Heh, I've been there. Actually I still have big issues with categorizing myself--and, though it's kind of sad, that makes me a lot more hesitant to seek out relationships. Not that I'm interested in a relationship right now anyway (for a variety of reasons). Being attracted to women wasn't something I began to accept consciously until not so long ago. Increasingly I've become aware that any attraction I have to males is more something connected to admiration and wanting to be like that (not wanting to be male, lol, but wanting to reach what I perceived as that sense of freeness and confidence) than to a regular sexual attraction. I've become involved with males enough times to admit for a fact that, easy though it is to convince myself otherwise, I just don't have much of an interest in them sexually. I guess I'd say that I'm somewhere between bisexual and lesbian. But not being able to pinpoint it exactly or give a real name to it just drives me batty. It shouldn't, but it does, and I know I'd feel a lot more at ease with myself if I could just say I was one thing and be done with it. Interestingly, for someone who tries to be enlightened and open-minded and whatever, I still have a pretty sizeable capacity for shame. Years and years ago, long before these issues had ever crossed my mind, I remember a PFLAG rep and a lesbian teen came to give a talk at my school. I don't remember anything of what was said, except that the girl told us she realized she was lesbian when she was a year or two older than the age I was at the time. All I recall thinking was praying like hell that I wouldn't turn out to be lesbian. I was under the impression that you'd wake up someday and *boom!* you'd be gay. There was no room in my head for the concept of being confused about it, or for identifying as bisexual early on and gay (or straight) later in life. Even now, I feel an incredible discomfort when, say, I'm watching TV in a group and a sexually suggestive ad (using females) comes on. I'm fine with it when I'm alone, but when I'm with others I feel as if I should be looking away, as if I should deliberately show that I'm disregarding it. I don't need people to tell me that it's okay to be homosexual/bi/what have you. Yet I still have that vague sense of guilt, and I can't even articulate why. I guess it could be connected to the fact that I haven't discussed this with any of my friends yet or my family yet, and I don't plan on doing so. It's not because I think they won't be accepting, but rather because I feel as if I ought to have something definite that I'm coming out as--be it bi or lesbian. On the other hand, I wouldn't be totally surprised if they suspected something along those lines anyway. Yeah. I hadn't planned on saying that much or on being that revealing, but... um, take comfort in the fact that you're not the only one who struggles with this kind of thing, I guess. :animeswea ~Dagger~
  10. Ha, usually I'm the only one who chooses "life" in hypothetical situations like this. I'm glad I have some company this time around. Chances are that I'd answer differently if I were fifty years older. But there's a lot to enjoy about life. And how amazing would it be to actually witness everything that happens in the future? Technological developments, countries rising and falling, space exploration... not only that, imagine the kind of positive impact you could make if you had centuries or millenia to work with. I guess I wouldn't want to exist past the end of the human race, though. That would probably be my limit. :p ~Dagger~
  11.
The Title Says it all!!!! ;)
I'm afraid that isn't sufficient. Please post here if you'd like to discuss anything related to Fushigi Yuugi. Please also keep in mind that OtakuBoards places a strong emphasis on post quality. As such, something as minimal as this would be considered spam. When you're starting a thread, it's helpful if you try to encourage a real discussion of some sort. If you have any questions, feel free to private message me or one of the other staff members. Once I finish making & using my streak of Kaleido Star avatars, I'll post those here as well. ~Dagger~
  13. Mm... that meal really hit the spot (we usually have a big late lunch for our Thanksgiving feast, rather than dinner). My little sister made a rocking carrot cake, too. Unfortunately it's almost gone now. I seem to be coming down with something--what luck! It's odd that I always get sick around the holidays. Here's to hoping it's not the bird flu, haha. ~Dagger~
  14. Just a rumor. Some information on AF And in case you're not convinced yet... Like I've told you before, it really helps if you go into more detail when starting a new topic. For example, in this case it would have been nice if you named your source. Thread closed. ~Dagger~
  15. Trailer Um, yeah... I hope that trailer is legal, haha, considering that it's of rather low quality and being made available from some Russian website. :animeswea Like I said, low quality & poorly synched. But it looks pretty cool anyway. I hope they don't go too heavy on the action (as opposed to the comedy) this time around. Seems like it'll revolve around Jack Sparrow--even the tagline at the end reads "Captain Jack is back"--which, of course, can only be a good thing. ~Dagger~
  16.
100% new to the forums and already I?m taking part in a controversial thread. Oh well, it was bound to happen eventually.
Welcome to OB! :catgirl: chobitslover90, I think I understand your concerns somewhat better now. If you're going to worry about anything, though, you should probably be worrying about manga. It's higher-profile, for one thing, and the questionable/controversial stuff is easier for kids to access. A bookstore clerk can't stop a ten-year-old from buying Sensual Phrase, for example (and Sensual Phrase isn't outright hentai or anything, but it's definitely inappropriate for kids). I imagine it's not at all difficult for someone underage to get their hands on 18+ rated manga. And it's probably a lot worse in the eyes of some parents if he/she goes for hardcore BL (such as Level C) instead, which is not an unlikely scenario. Really, though, what's the point in fretting? You described a hypothetical incident, but anime has weathered similar stuff in both Japan and Canada, if I remember correctly. ~Dagger~

  18. Okay, guys, I added spoiler tags to the post in question (and deleted the subsequent posts that dealt solely with the tag issue, as they were off-topic). In the future, please click the "report bad post" button (it's the exclamation point) if you want a mod or admin to be aware that a post lacks spoiler tags. Thanks. :) ~Dagger~
  19. It would be even easier to understand if you used periods and commas more often. ;) Anyway, I'm with Arvie. Hentai is anime, like it or not. It may not be my bag, but neither is a lot of the stuff out there. ~Dagger~
  20. Assuming you're into this type of show, Bleach is definitely one of the best Shounen Jump manga --> anime adaptations around. So far it's had almost no filler. The production values are good at the beginning but get increasingly better throughout the show. It's directed by a veteran of shounen action series (Noriyuki Abe; previous works include Yu Yu Hakusho and Flame of Recca). It also sticks pretty tightly to the manga, so if you're more of a manga fan you shouldn't have any complaints. I mean, it's not anything particularly deep or whatever. But in terms of how well it was adapted from the manga, it's right up there with Yu Yu Hakusho, Hikaru no Go and Hunter x Hunter. ~Dagger~
  21. I imagine time-based restrictions could probably be implemented, though. If anything, they would be more accurate than what I do now (which is glance back through my PMs to see if the person in question had another name change recently, heh). ~Dagger~
  22. Hey, now. As High Priestess of the Powerpuff Girls, I take exception to that remark! Or maybe you'd prefer this? As for Toonami, I can't give much of an opinion either way. I keep meaning to watch IGPX, but that just hasn't happened yet. Well, I'll remember to sit down and see it someday. ~Dagger~

  24. So, how does this differ from the Anime Suggestions topic? I gather that the point of this thread is to convince others to watch your favorite series, right? You've hinted at some kind of larger structure, but only in vague terms. Would you have any serious objections if I merged the two threads? ~Dagger~
  25. I think
Hollow!Ichigo
just became my favorite character in the series. His maniacal giggle is just golden. I almost keeled over laughing at
Byakuya's WTF!?! expression after the real Ichigo started taking control and peeling off Hollow Ichigo's mask.
That was just priceless. He really won extra cool points with all the stuff he pulled off in this episode, including
changing his sword into two additional forms (the compressed one at the very end of the fight was suspiciously similar to Ichigo's, in terms of how he pushed his bankai down into a much smaller shape). And you've gotta love a guy who saves enough energy to vanish flashily even after being defeated. I thought they'd just show him falling over or whatever (which is what's usually done in situations like this--but I guess Byakuya is above that, haha).
I wonder when they're going to pick up the fight between
the two captains & the old guy. (I'm terrible with remembering names in this show...)
It could get awkward if they return to it suddenly, with all these other new developments taking place. ~Dagger~
