1. I'll be having a pretty low-key Thanksgiving, as per usual. Just hanging out with the relatives a bit, sleeping way more than I should, eating way more than I should (of course), overdosing on TV, etc. I'm looking forward to the food portion of it the most; my mom's cooking is unparalleled. Apple cobbler & pumpkin pie, here I come. Desserts aside, though, you can have your turkey--some good stuffing is all I need to be happy. :catgirl: ~Dagger~
  2. Well, this entire sub-forum is supposed to be for discussing anime. So an "anything goes if it relates to anime" thread is kind of... redundant. But feel free to tackle more specific topics. :animeswea If you have any questions or comments, you're welcome to private message me or one of the other staff members. Thanks. Thread closed. ~Dagger~
  3.
XD I know what shoujo is, I just meant how is the show shoujo. Sounds interesting... I'll be sure to check it out. On a side note, I suggest you all check out King of Bandits Jing this holiday season. It's not much in the way if story or even action for that matter but it's very creative and different and quirky. Not to mention the art is beautiful. PS: Thanks again for the name change.
Haha, sorry, I wasn't really sure what you meant. As for Kaleido Star, it's just... shoujo. At least I'm 99% convinced it is, just based on how it's done (and the fact that Junichi Sato, who doesn't have very many shounen works, was involved). Now watch someone come and tell me that the manga ran in a shounen magazine. XD I don't know if you're referring to the Jing manga or anime, but the latter is quite inexpensive. So it's a good buy in that regard too. ~Dagger~
  4.
Oh, I wouldn't worry about things being to girly, I'll watch anything, it's just getting to the counter that's difficult >_< How do you mean it is shoujo? What's the actual story like, I mean it can't just be a bunch of cirus guys doing stuff (or can it) Anyone have any suggestions on what to buy this holiday season? (C-mas is comin up, gotta have my list ready)
Shoujo = anime/manga whose primary target audience is female. Of course, many of them have plenty of male fans as well, and in some cases the male fandom ends up being a lot more vocal anyway. The story is basically about Sora (the main character), who moves from Japan to America in order to fulfill her dream of joining the Kaleido Stage. It deals with her path to becoming a big-time star. She has to face hazing, rivalry and high-pressure auditions, while juggling several part-time jobs for extra money and practicing furiously to catch up with her peers. The focus is mainly on what goes on behind the scenes to prepare for performances, as well as the performances themselves, but there's other stuff too... in one episode, for example, her parents fly in from Japan to try and convince her to come home. ~Dagger~
  5.
What, exactly, is Kaleido Star? I've noticed that usually when I think a manga is abou space travel it turn out to be about pop stars >_
  6. When name changes are made, we usually stick a little note about it in your signature. Most people are good about leaving it in for a while, but some seem to erase it as soon as they can... Anyway, as Baron mentioned, previous username(s) are also shown in your profile. ~Dagger~
  7. If you won't buy it anyway, why even put it as an option? At any rate, my vote goes to Fruits Basket. :p I was originally considering re-watching Kaleido Star, but I ended up deciding to save it for Christmas. That'll be closer to the release date of Kaleido Star: New Wings. Since the third volume of Princess Tutu will also be coming out in January, I may re-watch the first and second discs of that series over Christmas as well. Of course, now I'm just getting ahead of myself--I'd better figure out what I'm watching this weekend, first. :animesmil ~Dagger~
  8.
Perhaps because there IS no difference? ;)
Now, that's just cruel. It's like telling a little kid that the Tooth Fairy is really his dad. :animesmil Anyway, Nosferatu, if you're looking to enlighten someone (or whatever) it's probably more productive to emphasize that animation as a medium doesn't have to be just kiddie fare or adult comedies. The only thing that really distinguishes anime from animation produced by any other country is its nation of origin. Heck, the Japanese don't even bother to use a different term for Western animation. But for our purposes, it's easier to draw that distinction. ~Dagger~
  9. Official Eva thread In the future, please try to use complete sentences (good post quality & all that), and don't double-post. If you have any questions about our policies, feel free to private message me or one of the other staff members. Thanks a bunch. Thread closed. ~Dagger~
  10. Well, there are a couple of series I could marathon over Thanksgiving, but I haven't really narrowed my list down. Right now the main candidates are Princess Nine, Tsukikage Ran, Now & Then, Here & There and Nadesico. I'd like to finish Full Metal Panic now that I have the last few DVDs (it's been at least a good two years since I started watching it), but I haven't really been feeling motivated. Soul Taker is another series it would be nice to finish, since I have the final two discs just kind of lying around. What I definitely will make some time to watch is the Summer arc of AIR TV. I think what I'll do is re-watch the first half of episode 8, then episodes 14 & 15 (the Summer Special), then the second half of episode 8 followed by episode 9. Chronologically speaking, that should work out okay. And I have a feeling I'll probably end up seeing the Utena movie again... ~Dagger~
  11. Yeah, it's just kind of ironic that Ed and Al haven't recognized her yet, even though they've seen her in person more than once...

No one would think that she could love or have someone fall in love with her. [/SPOILER']Even though she still isn't the most trustworthy character, I think she deserves some credit from that one.
I'm not sure I would say that Lust
loved what's-his-face; I think she might have felt some pity or sympathy for him, but it's hard to tell. She was probably also intrigued/concerned by the pseudo-memories he provoked in her.
Even so, I agree--that episode gave her a lot of unexpected depth. EDIT: Lindus, I love your banner & avatar. KKM for the win. :animesmil ~Dagger~

    Berserk!!!

This is not really the way to start a thread. First off, if you want to post about Berserk, then I invite you to go here. As I've said before, check the Directory or use the search function before creating a new series-specific thread. That helps keep things neat and organized in this forum. Plus, it saves the staff members a bit of hassle. :) Because we try to keep spam to an absolute minimum, post quality is important here at OB. That includes using or at least approximating correct English. More importantly, though, when you start a thread, it's greatly appreciated if you say more than "has anyone seen so-and-so," or "fans of so-and-so, post here!" Mentioning a little about the show in question--why you like it, why you don't, whatever--helps stimulate discussion and sets a good example for the people who will be posting after you. If you have any questions, you're welcome to private message me or one of the other staff members. Thanks. Thread closed. ~Dagger~
  13. In fairness, only one episode has nudity or that level of violence. There's some blood here and there. But from what I recall, episode 9 (is that the one?) is an anomaly in terms of both gore and fanservice. I do agree that Geneon should've rated it 16+, if only for that. I'd check to see if they rated volume 3 differently from the rest, but my R.O.D single cases are scattered all over the place. Sorry. :animeswea ~Dagger~
  14. Fixed the size tag for ya. ;)
I'm just going to be working overdrive on this bloody Broadway piece (*verbally shakes fist at Dagger*).
*breaks into song* "There's no business like show business / Like no business I know..." Haha, anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what the two of you come up with for that particular theme. Enjoy your Thanksgiving break, and all that. ~Dagger~
  15. Er... there's only one Evangelion series. Similarly, there's only one Ghost in the Shell TV series. It's fifty-two episodes long (just two seasons--not that complicated), but no box sets have yet been released. The Read or Die OVA--not the TV series--is short, self-contained and has many well-done action scenes. It would help if you clarified what kind of action you're looking for, though (e.g. samurai action, mecha, something with guns, psychic powers, whatever). I do think s-CRY-ed is a nice example of a solid battle-oriented series. It's been packaged into three two-disc collections (under Bandai's "Anime Legends" line), so getting it shouldn't be that much less convenient than picking up a box set. ~Dagger~
  16. I merged your consecutive replies. In the future, please don't double-post.
does anybody think i maid any bad choices?
Well, it's a little late to worry about that now. :) Ai Yori Aoshi, Love Hina, Please Twins and Mahoromatic have a lot of elements in common, so you might want to space them out a bit. Other than that, I don't think you should really worry about what order to watch your new series in. Just go with whatever you feel like. Unless you want to save the best for last, in which case you should keep Fruits Basket for the end. ~Dagger~
  17. I like it. (Something--text or whatever--is going to be put in that gray patch Retri mentioned, won't it?) The only thing that I find really unappealing is the slightly degraded look of the font used for the logo. It's not noticeable in "Prophets," but the white speckles visible in "Game" are distracting and unnecessary. It almost seems as if there's too much white space around the top (like where Link is positioned). But I assume the overall feel of the page will change somewhat once the blank spaces lower down get filled in. ~Dagger~
  18. And you can discuss it to your heart's content here. In the Anime Lounge, our policy is to have one officially designated thread for each anime series, movie or OVA. So before creating a new series-specific topic, please check the Directory sticky (or use the search function) to make sure one doesn't already exist. Anyway, happy posting. Thread closed. ~Dagger~
  19. Wow, that was amazingly helpful. The fansite's section with biographies for the different pen names is especially interesting. Looking over the index of titles made me feel kind of nostalgic--it reminded me of how much I like Color and Dear Myself. And I feel like such a dork for not bothering to notice that The Art of Loving is an Eiki Eiki manga. I guess DMP is a step ahead of me, haha. I had no idea that one of the Taishi Zaou-related doujin groups did Light Note. Bless them; the world could use a lot more Death Note doujin. Lost Paradise appears to be the Fafner doujin I wanted (what a beautiful cover!)... Oh, well. I'll get it someday. I guess they dig those Hisashi Hirai character designs, what with Fafner + all the Gundam SEED stuff. I'm looking forward to checking out the manga you mentioned. Thanks again! :animesmil ~Dagger~

    Colorful!

Well, the OVA already exists and is out on DVD (from ADV)... thus they aren't really producing it, but they are airing it on American TV for the first time. So that counts for something, right? I don't think I get G4, but I've always been vaguely curious about Colorful. Panty assault aside, it seems to have an interesting visual style. ~Dagger~
  21. Just a general note for everyone: DMP has announced that their October and November releases will be held back till December. Here's a list of the affected titles. Yaoi La Esperanca volume 1 Our Kingdom volume 1 Our Everlasting volume 1 Kimi Shiruya - Dost Thou Know? Jazz volume 1 Beyond My Touch Yaoi related Antique Bakery volume 2 ---------------- EDIT: I have just stumbled across the glory that is Sakuragi Yaya. So far I've read the first three chapters of Renai Kyoutei Nukegake Nashi and the first volume of Koi Cha no Osahou. I particularly loved the former. Her art is nothing short of delicious--I love the way she draws a smirking expression, for example. There's a real sensuality to it. Can anyone recommend other titles by this most excellent manga-ka? On a side note, I recently passed up a chance to buy a Fafner doujinshi (Kazuki x Soushi) by Taishi Zaou & Eiki Eiki. I'm horribly depressed over it--that pairing in Fafner (or the reverse thereof) is practically my OTP, haha. And the artwork looked gorgeous. But that brings me to my next question... I've seen some stuff by Eiki Eiki and liked it very much, but I haven't read much from Taishi Zaou. (Is it true that she does most of her work on doujinshi?) I was enchanted by the artwork & characters in one of her one-shots--what other original work has she done? Many thanks, if anyone is able to answer. :catgirl: ~Dagger~
  22. You have my sympathy. However, I'm afraid that a thread without any direction whatsoever won't do much to alleviate your boredom. May I suggest participating in one of the myriad other threads in this forum? Or, if you want to discuss a topic that isn't currently covered, feel free to create your own thread. Just try to remember that OB places a strong emphasis on post quality. Using proper English (complete sentences, etc.) is important. Moreover, it might behoove you to keep in mind that this is a message board, not a chatroom; threads here need to have some kind of purpose. If you have any questions, feel free to private message me or one of the other staff members. Thanks. Thread closed. ~Dagger~
  23. Added tags for the CCS spoilers. Well, actually--I think it's harder to assert that such couples should not be shown in anime. I mean, why not? Do you think it sets a poor example? Is it because you're against that in real life? In CCS alone there's everything from implied homosexuality to a chaste but romantic relationship between a very young girl and her teacher. The couple you mentioned is really the least objectionable in the entire series. ~Dagger~
  24.
...if members did have the right to delete threads they started just because they don't like the way it's being responded to, there'd be no point in posting replies at all. Now I remember back when we actually had this feature and although I don't recall any major abuses of it, I'd still prefer to see the back of it rather than have to see the consequences of abuse.
I believe there was at least one specific incident which lead to that right being taken away. I wasn't a mod at the time, though, and I don't remember too much about it. But basically I'm pretty sure that the thread-deleting ability was removed due to abuse. ~Dagger~
  25. I believe that at this point in the show, Ed is 15 and Al is 14. Don't quote me on that, though--the only thing I know for sure is that they're one year apart. I wonder what Winry is going to do, now that she knows
Roy killed her parents?
With just tonight's episode to go by, it was hard to gauge her reaction--i.e. whether she thought
he was beyond forgiving but didn't say anything about it because the knowledge of Hughes' death weighed on her, or she just felt bad for everyone involved, Roy included.
Anyway, I like how the show repeatedly weaves in the same secondary characters, such as those two Ishbalan boys. Something else I took away from this episode was a powerful admiration for Hawkeye. It's very difficult to find anime females who take that kind of supportive role toward a male figure--it's hard to describe, but I guess I'd say that she looks after him in the same way that a male friend/colleague of his (such as Hughes) would. Not quite the same, obviously; she has her own unique way of going about it, and that's probably informed by her being female, as well. So she doesn't come off as being the typical "relegated to a secondary part for diversity's sake" type of woman. Nor does she come off as being a character who was rigidly shoehorned into a male role. Empowerment can be found in supporting roles, too; women don't have to be leads or more kick-*** than all the men in order to be worthwhile characters who aren't tied back by the bonds of traditional gender roles. I think she represents that ideal extremely well. I also love her dub voice, haha. I had always assumed
Lust was the de facto leader of the Homunculi, but it appears as though all of them (Lust included, to my vast surprise!) take their orders from Sloth. Who, by the way, gains a greater resemblance to Ed & Al's mother each time I look at her...
~Dagger~
