1. I'd bet, but I'm never going to submit myself to using the word "OtakuBucks" in context. I'll still do the critiquing though, probably. :P
  2.
What is it? John [Member] Why is it nifty? Because his signatures are consistently hilarious.
Edit: Except for, apparently, right now. What a slacker.
He pays tribute to the best (this is of course subjective) aspects of the boards, and I think that the awareness that he raises is worthy of recognition.
I'll try to get some new sig material up for ya soon. ;P What: Sara Why: Because the only reason I didn't nominate her before was that I know she's going to get in anyway (hell, she'd get in even if nobody nominated her. Sara's that good). But now that she's nominated me, it's good tact and even better ***-kissery to let my support be known officially. Sara's seriously one of the most remarkable people I know, period. And what's more, I'm pretty sure she gets that frequently. Many oldies (I'm starting to hate that word) have lots of admiration and respect coming to them, but in my eyes Sara's the only one who actually deserves the outright awe that many members bestow on them.
  3.
If you can't control your dog keep it leashed. Have the filter perminant for reassurance. (Yes and I do repeat myself alot.)
It's ok, I missed your last post. Keeping the filter on forever and unconditionally like you're saying wouldn't maximize the benefit for anybody. Eventually, it gets safe enough that it's worth the risk to take it off.
  4.
I have trouble imagining this being effective. Not to be nonsensical, but the RPG/writing forums were censored before they were uncensored. Even if there were improvements during a new period of censorship, I can't help but feel that they would vanish once the filter was taken off. Also, members who joined after the censorship was removed again wouldn't have that experience to learn from.
If people change their entire style of writing and creative thinking, it's not going to disappear in a puff of smoke when the restraints come off Perhaps much later (if no subsequent quality requirements are enforced) people will slack off, but that's unavoidable and will happen no matter what the situation. Any new member creating an RPG will probably (should I just say definitely?) take strong influence from everything else they see around the forum, and imitate their style. So that's not a problem.
  5. Just censor it for an undisclosed amount of time. Get people used to the idea of making creative RPGs without fallbacks, and then reintroduce it when you think they can handle it.
  6. You skipped the part where the priest buys out a gun store and goes on a cigarette-smoking, justice-dealing rampage.
  7. What: OB Scavenger Hunt Why: Along with the other nominations in this post, this was one of the most entertaining times I've ever had at OB. If enough riddles can be mustered up, I hope we can do it again next Summer. What: "The Complaint" Why: It reminds me of that part in The Truman Show where someone accidentally opens a false wall allowing Truman to see a group of secretive people with mysterious doings. Except in this thread, the wall fell over because one of the people in the room was bumbling around scratching his ***, then when it was open everyone started yelling at him and everyone on the outside saw it and started laughing until the ones on the inside started throwing hissy fits at them and finally just took off their paper hats and disbanded their secret club. So you can see the similarity there, I think. What: Mafia Why: Another very fun event, and this game of it was almost only a test run. If done again, the game could be fantastic. It was also pretty interesting to see how something like this adapts from real life to the internet. What: "Motorola Razr" Why: Because it told Otakuboards that even if you've never even met a particular person, it's still worth it to pick up that phone, reach out, and touch someone. Good ***ing Lord, is it worth it.
  8.
Expect a final interview to be posted on Thursday, as well as one final twist.
Shy, homie, pour yourself some lemonade and just relax a bit. We know you like these twists and all, but... perhaps it'd be best for you to just take it easy for a little while. Would you like to talk to someone about this? *puts a concerned hand on your shoulder*
  9. Good thing my picture was a joke so I can still vote for Sara. :D
  10. I still don't see how people can have such a problem with the alliances. You can't justify banning them by comparing this version of Mafia to the real life version. We established long ago that the game will change considerably in its move to the internet, so of course not everyone is going to remain alone to fend for themselves. I don't know about any of you, but even when I just read the premise of the event, I knew alliances were probably going to be a part of it. And it's a part that works fine. The only reason it provided any sort of advantage in this game was because there weren't enough townspeople. If this is ever played again, I think it'd work out perfectly if we just either get more townspeople or, as has been suggested, keep people's identities a secret even after they've died. The former would make alliances slower to build so they wouldn't gain power quickly at all, and the latter would just make it a little more risky for everybody.
  11. What is it? Otakupedia Why is it nifty? Because it was destined to happen. OB has brought anonymous people together and had them interact in such a plethora of intense and interesting ways over such a (comparatively) long period of time that it just might have one of the richest histories of any message board in history. It's only natural that all this lore should eventually be compiled in a Wikipedia-esque format.
  12. Boston - Boston (Sorry for the bad image quality.) This album cover, like the album itself, is nearly perfect in every way. It's iconic, aesthetically pleasing, able to be taken in at a quick glance, and yet also conveys the feeling and (unstated) auditory premise of the album absolutely to a tee. This is, plainly enough, "This is what the city of Boston would sound like if it suddenly found itself rocketing through space." The cover reflects this, and Boston's sound in general, with magnificent precision, down to the level of visual detail (or, almost, lack thereof) present. A lot more intelligence went into it than you'd realize at first glance.
  13. It seems that some people take offense to Charles actually replying to new members instead of copypasting a prewritten warning at them. How curious.
To tell you the truth, it kind of surprises me as well, my older children were never one to ask permission for anything. It is nice that she does, but some times that little imp just outright tells me she's doing something whether or not I like it. :animesigh Still I can't complain, she's a good kid. ;) And now I'll stop embarrassing her and be on my way.
Having a mod's mom posting on the boards is probably the most entertaining thing that's happened here in years. XD

  15. *dying breaths* Be... excellent to each other.
And party on, dudes.
*dead*
  16.
Tekkaman! Ikillion was innocent, even if he was not posting and gave the wrong impression; no one deserves to be hanged! By dismissing his death so quickly and coldly, you?re just making me wonder what you really are.
Someone who's comfortable with the fact that people who die in the game don't actually die in real life? ;P Just so everyone knows, the next week and a half or so I'll be on vacation and will probably have somewhat intermittent internet access, so excuse my lack of participation in advance. I'll try to get on when I can.
  17.
On the contrary: there are empty spots in the statistics for all four "special" players, that (according to what I've gathered) will be filled when the respective player dies. It's not to ruin the game, but to help the game to move forward and to aid in logical thinking. The thing is, if nobody knows nothing, then everybody's pretty much dead.
Ahhh, ok, my mistake. And, um, Tekkaman? If you're going to claim someone is guilty, at least give us, you know, a reason lol.
  18.
By looking at this list here, hearing what everyone has to say, and noting that, in fact, the Priest and the Detective haven't been found yet (and if these are all the players), this helps us greatly in our search for the villians.[/size']
Actually, I don't think the Detective/Priest is supposed to be revealed after they're killed. In fact, I'm pretty sure they're not, so they actually could be dead. (Sandy, take note of this so you don't accidentally reveal them if one of them is killed.)
Boo and John, you both need to post more.
Untrue. I don't post more than most people, but I make sure everything I say is pertinent and, hopefully, helpful. But I'll try to put some more posts up if I can.
  19. This same type of buzzkill post seems to come up in pretty much every advice thread, but I think it's worthwhile, so here it is: Say someone here (probably me, because, I mean, come on people.) gives you an amazing gift idea, and you go for it, and your girlfriend swoons as soon as it's presented to her. When she asks you where you got the notion for such a marvelous symbol of affection, you say, "Some guy on the internet suggested it." Not very smooth, eh? I know that you plan to put all your own affection into the gift, no matter where you get the idea, but I think that, looking back on it in later times, you'll appreciate the memory more if it was all of your own design. Just food for thought.
But what about: "It has a detrimental effect on the internet and its relationship with society." How is that?
Because the internet is associated with younger generations, and younger generations on the internet are associated with Myspace (both general but still existant and somewhat true perceptions). So since the general userbase is influenced by the site itself, and Myspace is (strongly) connected to society's perception of the internet as a whole via the younger generation, Myspace dictates much of society's perception of the internet. I've already told how the impression that it gives off is a bad one, but even if I hadn't, the lambasting of it--or quiet disdain at the least--in the popular media that we see every several news stories says enough.
Haha. Don't get users mixed up with the sites they use!
But the users do get mixed up with the sites they use. How a site and its userbase are established, managed, and related to has a direct relationship with how the users behave around the site. And when the site is like Myspace and revolves around social networking and commmunication, usually with people you know in real life, it even affects how you relate to those people. And it's run by terrorist factions too. Forgot about that part.
I never understood why people were so opinionated on the issue. As if MySpace had some detrimental affect on their lives.
It has a detrimental effect on the internet and its relationship with society.

    MySpace

Myspace is an anachronism in the present-day internet. It throws out all the design tricks and aesthetics developed during the past half decade in exchange for hideous, cluttered page layouts that look to be ripped out of 1997, unleashes the horrible demon of auto-start music that had been caged for so long before, does absolutely nothing to promote organization or community amongst its members, has awful page loadtimes, and is owned and operated by a spam company. This last point provides the only reason that it managed to scrounge to the top of the social networking dogpile in the first place.
  24. Fun soloing, but it's a good thing the video cut off before the inevitably lame vocals kicked in. (C'mon, it is just another power metal band we're talking about here. )
  25. Think I gotta agree with you on Indian Tower there.
