I don't think a MS like Heavyarm is actually functional in the situation of GW when it is not so easy to refill the ammo. Do Trowa get regular shipment of ammo from the colony? The elephants from the circus must help him to load the ammo....

How would an 8 years old want to take over the world? She doesn't, but someone behind her would love to shape the world in his view. There is a character named Mineba Zabi from Zeta Gundam and sort of from Gundam ZZ. She is 8 years old heir of the Zabi family and Duchy of Zeon. Her entire family was killed around the time of the OYW. She ecaped the battlefield with her mother but the mother passed away soon after. The Kahn family on Axis raises her as the future regent of the Zeon. In the care of Harma Kahn, Mineba is taught to be the rightful ruler of Zeon and she shall have her revenge on the Earth Federation in the future. Furthermore, she shall librate the spacenoid with the ideal of Zeon. I am sure that is the origin of Mariemaia of GW. Mariemaia is a very spoilled kid. She is educated in a way to believe she is right. She is also educated to believe she has the right to rule over others because she has a grandfather who believe only in his own ideal. Similar to how Harma drives Mineba to the edge, Mariemaia is taught to believe in her right as a ruler of the world because she has the "royal" blood, like Mineba. Mariemaia, again, like Mineba, is not more than a tool for others to gain power. Also, why choose Mariemaia? Mariemaia is the perfect idol for people to worship, at least in the AC timeline. In many Gundam series, there are queens instead of kings as queens are easier for people to fell in love as long as they are beautiful and elegent. This is quite clearly stated in Gundam F91 and Victory Gundam. So, Mariemaia is good because she is a daughter. Now, her father has a lot of followers and those followers are highly likely to follow her, not her grandfather. To use her as the figure head, her grandfather gains quite a number of support without doing anything else. Since this is part of the AC timeline, people are tend to believe in people who are young. Relena as queen and a high rank officer of the government proves the point clearly. So, an 8 years old leader must be ideal in the world.

Again, I just want to know why some people can think EVA is not mecha. They are biological don't mean they are not mecha. Mechas are not only mechincal and man-made, everything can be mecha as long as they are humanoid and piloted by human. I like the last 2 episodes of the sereis as the ending more than End of EVA. EOE only put more confusion into the story. It is no point of having Shinji as the "God" to unify the world as he himself doesn't understand what it takes to be a human. He is a very bad excuse of human race. People need to learn from their experience in order to grow up and I don't see Shinji learns anything at all. One day he can be quite happy and open, but the next day, he becomes the sad and hopeless, even want to die. How about letting him die, then? I don't think he has the gust to kill himself, yet, the rest of human population rely on his ability to save the world. I find that unbelieveable.

If EVA is not mecha, why is the show part of Super Robot war games? If it is created as a mecha show and marketed as a mecha show, it is a mecha show for me. BTW, if they are biological, they are not mecha, then, the mechas from Aura Battler Dunbine, Five Stars Stories and Brain Powerd are not mechas as well. Mecha doesn't have to be mechanical. There are biological mecha before EVA and after EVA. It is determined by how they market. Also, being a mecha show doesn't make it any less. Mechas shows have some of the best characters and stories in the history of anime.

I don't think there is one greatest anime that everyone will agree on. At least, I don't agree EVA is. To me, it is Mobile Suit Gundam, the mecha anime revolutionizes the industry by putting in realistic war feel in a mecha show with a main character who is not a hero and who doesn't want to be one. Amuro's situation is similar to Shinji's but he is done 16 years earlier.

Metropolis is based on the manga by Osamu Tezuka. He passed away in 1989. The manga was first published in 1949, so the value in it is different from now. The conflict between robot and human sounds kind of old but consider the story was created in the 40s, it becomes the first of its kind in manga or anime. The character design is typical Tezuka style. They may not look pretty but they serve as the base of modern characters. For more information about Osamu Tezuka, check out the website: http://en-f.tezuka.co.jp/

G Gundam can really spark some great discussion. Let me give a reason why I like G Gundam. The characters in the story are amazing great developed. It is for the watchers to find the little hints dropped everywhere to draw pictures of certain characters. Take Domon as an example. In the early part of the story, we only know he is a jerk who only care about winning as he can look for the guy on the picture . The secret lies in the picture. Why does Domon use the picture of his family instead of a picture with Koiji alone? Now, we first realize that he doesn't hate the guy he is looking for. In fact, we can be sure that they are related in a very close way. It is quite obvious that Domon is the kid in the picture. Later, we see the picture unfold and we can tell that it is a very happen time for the family, at least for Domon. He had a brother to look up to and the parents who love him. Now, we have enough to tell why Domon picked this picture. He is fighting to win in order to restore the happiness in his life. That makes him very interesting in my opinion. He is no longer the moron as he would be.

If you are talking about the UC Gundams as the predecessors of G Gundam, maybe you should not watch any Gundams at all. 1. They don't have plots like Gundam Wing, instead, GW has plot like them. GW is made in 1995 and the UC started in 1979. 2. The war in UC are not boring but sad and real. 3. What can you expect from animation made in 1979(MSG) or even 1985(Zeta). They don't look as sharp but they are the best at their times. BTW, the late UCs like CCA(1989), F91(1992), 0083(1992) and Victory(1993) all have very good animation, better than GW's or GG's imo. 4. The UC Gundams have some of the best characters not only in Gundam universes, but all anime. The most popular Gundam character ever is Char Aznable who is from Mobile Suit Gundam. Back to the topic: G Gundam is fun to watch. It has some great characters and a very non-believeable plot which is something we don't see in Gundam everyday. Outside from sadness and horror, we have something easily enjoyed by almost everyone.

Anime whats your personal outlook on........gundam seed
Qukey replied to craig8429's topic in Otaku Central
Friend vs friend is not original in Seed. In fact, it has been part of Gundam since MSG. Garma and Char(MSG), Emma and Reccoa(Zeta), Seabook and Cecily(F91), Usso and Katejina(Victory) are just some examples. Even G Gundam and Gundam Wing have friends fighting against each other for a short period of time. It is right that Gundam Seed is intented for younger audiences as it is really a "beginner" series to get people into Gundam. The last one is GW which had proved sucessfully in attracting female fans. It is also true that many people don't even care for MSG because of the aged animation but it doesn't mean a newly made, updated show can be as good as the old one. At least, Seed is not creating a sub-gerne like what MSG did in 1979. -

I consider myself a REAL fan of Gundam as I grew up with MSG, Zeta, ZZ, War in the Pocket...... That is the exact problem why I don't think Seed is a "good" Gundam. Gundam is about war and people, not about how many variations of the name Gundam they can sell. Seed has taken many elements from the older Gundams but it really tries to be something else. It has taken stories, characters and plots from other non-Gundam works to impress non-Gundam fans. The driving force of the merchadise market is just too big to stop. It is fine as long as the work is good. However, Seed becomes the most "non-Gundam" Gundam series. It can still be successful and profitable if it is not part of the Gundam world. It has simply leave out some of the most important elements in Gundam to create something appeal a wider audiences. It is true that almost all Gundams have taken from MSG. The different between Seed and the rest (excluding GW) is that the other expand on the meanings in UC, not just rip them from the plots and glue them together. Zeta, ZZ, F91 and Victory all expansions of MSG and they are well made because they have added so much rich details into the world. G brings in a very different look at what the problem MSG has pointed: the conservation of Earth. GX provides the ending to Newtypes by expressing the true meaning of them. Turn A is a true alternative which looks so different from other Gundams, yet, perserve the theme and feels of the meaning of Gundam. I am not the only "real" fan of Gundam who doesn't like Seed. We have be entertained by the franchise for the last 25 years and we are given it a very high standard that the future Gundam has to take. Too bad that the standard setting up by the UC Gundams is just too high to reach. At least I am diskliking it not because of a few "rip-off" mechas. -
Originally posted by Cahoots34 I am a woman of very simplistic tastes. In a series, I look for: 1. Exceptionally cool robots (If there are no robots, great fight scenes will suffice) 2. Deep emotional turmoil and angst 3. Shounen/shoujo-ai innuendo (by the tonne, if possible) Would Gundam Seed meet my requirements, or should I shun it as I shun Medabots and all related programmes?
Yes. Seed have everything you want. After that, look somewhere else because GW and Seed are the only series that fit you taste. -
There are 3 parts planned for the Hades. The first part has 13. The second part will come in November.

The TV series is good but the manga is even better. I had read all 28 vol. and I highly recommand it to anyone. It is just wrong to judge Saint Seiya with the Knight of Zodiac as they are not the same. Knight of Zodiac is just a show with all the clips from Saint Seiya. Another show killed by the TV editing.

I, too, think X the movie is bad. I am thinking about watching it on Holloween because it is horrible... horribly made... I am a big fan of the manga and I am very disappointed by the movie since it only focus on action. The audiences could not feel sad about any of the deaths if they don't already know the manga. The movie takes a very small part of the story and makes it with a lot of action and blood. The most unforgiveable change they made on the movie is to kill my favorite characters in the first 3 minutes of the movie.

The old SD (Super Deformed) Gundam has proved to be a great marketing tool. The toys and games are selling great. There are some older shows of SD Gundam in the style of Superior Defender and they have their own market in Japan as well. It is just that the American market is not ready, yet.

Seed has 50 eps. as far as I know, not 53. It is going to show on TV anyway to attract more customers to their toys. As for Zeta, not everyone think it is the best. It is a matter of taste and opinion. I love every second of it and I have met someone who doesn't like it. Many people think it is overrated because it is not what they expected. -

I am very disappointed by Gundam Seed. It is definitely not something I am expecting from a Gundam series. It tries so hard to blend the elements from other hit shows into the franchise, but it loses some of the best qualities of what a Gundam story has. The characters are weak comparing to many characters from older Gundam series. By eps. 10, Kira has not figure out what to do but Camille(Zeta Gundam) has already realize that he has to help to stop the war. Yet, Camille's emotion feels very very real. He acts and feels like a 16 years old growing up in the middle of a battlefield. The supporting cast of Seed is boring. The captain should not be allow in the captain seat at all when most of the time, she cannot come up with a decision fast. The Archangel is in the battlefield and every decision is important. Comparing her to Bright Noah(Mobile Suit Gundam) is an insult to Bright. Yet, the roles of all other characters are not important, too. It feels like Kira and maybe Ashran are the only important characters in the story. The plot is unoriginal but that is not what makes it boring. The basic plot follows Mobile Suit Gundam quite closely with some elements from Zeta. Since most of the plots was made 24 years ago, the story is predictable. It is easily to tell who is dying and who is not by simply matching the characters back to their counterpart in MSG. The biggest problem I can see is the length of the plot. The story feels like lasting stretch because the story is not long enough for a 50 eps. series. They spend too much time talking and acting immature, instead of being constructive. Isn't there too much flashback scenes? I think the audiences can easily remember what happen 5 minutes ago and we don't need to be reminded. The mecha designs are beautiful and I truely believe MS=Gundam in Seed. It doesn't matter which side you are on, as long as you have a Gundam, you are in the game. Someone on another forum points out the problem here: we lose so many good MS design. As everyone has a Gundam now, we don't need designs like Zaku II, Zeong, Gerbera Tetra and Zaku III. There is not a huge variaties of design to choose from other than the regular looking Gundam.
I think Seed is quite amazing. Finally a Gundam that isn't all for the earth federation or opposing group.
It has been done multiple times already. In Crossbone, the war is mainly fought between the Crossbone Vanguard and Jupiter Empire. In Victory Gundam, wars are fought between League Militia and Zanscare Empire, a government rules with religion. In GX, the story is about a small group of survivors who are not siding with any governments if there are governments at all. In Turn A, there is no unified Earth Government.
Gundam Seed focuses on more then just Gundam fights it draws you in to the characters and makes you want to watch more, this is truly a gundam that rivals others.
Believe it or not, all Gundam are supposed to be about the characters. If fighting is so important, Turn A is boring. However, people who watched Turn A actually agreed that it is a masterpiece because the character developments are amazing. Also, if Gundam is only about fighting, the franchise will not be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year. Fans following Amuro(MSG, Zeta, CCA) for 25 years not only because he is a great pilot, but also a great character. He may not act cool most of the time but his emotion is real. -
Tokyo Babylon is really not a prequel of X. The story has nothing to do with the "End of World" plot of X. Other than the characters they share, there is really no real connection.

Many parents are simply lazy. They allow TV be the baby-sitter. Therefore, they think it is necessary for TV to show something they like as they want to "protect" their kids. How many parents are actually sitting down and watching the shows with their kids nowaday? The parents are allowing TV to accompany/educate their children with "safe" TV programs; boardcaster rather edit shows to avoid lawsuits. Some parents don't care if a show is on Adult Swim at 12:00am which is not intent for children at all. I think parents should worry about why their 10 year kids are still watching TV at midnight, instead what is shown at the time.

I watched the 13 eps. OVA but not the TV series, yet. The OVA is great with good story and some great characters. The music fits the show perfectly. It is something I would recommand to any fantasy/RPG fan.

The original SD (Super Deformed) Gundam are fun but the new SD (Superior Defender) is totally different. Well, it is targetted at a much younger age group.

The 7 volume manga Tokyo Babylon was made between 1990-1993 by Clamp. The 2 stories on the OVA are not part of the manga. The 2 main characters, Subaru and Seishirou appear in X. The train murder is the second eps. of the OVA. It is about a serial killer murdering people on the train. Subaru happens to witness the killing and he tries to find the killer.

There is currently no TV contract for Zeta. The box set will be released sometime next year.
-
Saint Seiya has 114 eps. and 13 new eps. of the Hades arc has just released as well. There will be more. I heard CN only get the first 40 eps. So, we are luck if those are the one they have. The show was made in 1986 following the release of the mangas (28 vol. in total) by Masami Kurumada.

Zeta was made in 1985 as the direct sequel of Mobile Suit Gundam. The story set in UC0087, 7 years after the end of One Year War. It is one of the darkest charpter of Gundam history along with Victory Gundam. The war in Zeta is sad and deadly. In UC0083, Titan, a fraction of Earth Federation, is formed to supress the remain of Zeon. After the 30 Bunch Incident in UC0085, AEUG(Anti Earth Unified Government) and its Earth counterpart Kalaba are formed to fight against the control of Titan. Titan, with the weapons developed by the Jupiter Fleet dominated the Earth Federation. Later, Zeon on Axis joins the scene, fight for control. The story follows Camille Biden, a 16 years old newtype boy who may be the strongest newtype in all Gundam. After joining the AEUG, he becomes their ace pilot on Gundam Mark II(RX-178) and Zeta Gundam (MSZ-006). In the blood war, he grow up and be the one carrying hope to others. I highly recommand watch Mobile Suit Gundam before Zeta as they share many characters, such as the Whitebase crews and Char Aznable. There are a few reference to the events in One Year War as well. The animation is aged and the style is quite different from the newest stuffs. However, I find the animation really good as there is only a small amount of still shots and everything moves smoothly. Don't expect to find pretty characters like the ones in GW but the every characters have their own styles. PS: The bird mode of Zeta is called "Waverider".
