Bweee, it's good to see people are finding this fun. That is the purpose .... along with intelligent conversation, of course *cough* If you think I'm moving along too fast, please tell me so. My fingers are just so itchy to [strike]attack[/strike] Opinionate more people and make sure they get their time in the spotlight :animeswea Sandy is up after Aaryanna . Look forward to that! While there's a backflip to the advances made in medicine, I'd have to say that I'm mighty thankful for them in the end. Not only do they give hope to cure diseases but gives everyone a broader understanding of the human body. That's pretty cool in my book. I also agree with Pumpkin, indoor plumbling is another great gift to the world. Along with medicine it's been doing a great job of cutting down illnesses that used to spread in poor hygiene conditions. Though I wonder if the bacteria of today hadn't evolved the way it has if we'd stayed in the muck?

Back when I was 8 or so, my 'best friend' at the time had invited me over for the night. The next morning, just before I was about to leave, she got mad at me and stole something out of my bag while I wasn't in the room. I confronted her immediately when I noticed it was missing but she flat-out denied doing it. Thankfully her younger sister came to my aid and showed me where the stolen item had been hidden and after that we pretty much had no friendship anymore. I've no real advice to give, but that's a personal experience to show you're not the only one who's had to suffer through friends that have little to no boundaries when it comes to right and wrong. Those who can't/don't show respect and aren't honest shouldn't get any respect or trust in return. But that's just my opinion *shrug*

What's in your car, purse or wallet
Mimmsicle replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
*is car-less too* I try to keep my wallet and purse/bag as neat as possible because it annoys the living daylight out of me when I have to dig through it to reach whatever it is I needed 10 seconds ago ^_^; So right now my bag contains a wallet, my phone, the local bus schedule, a calendar with a small notepad in it and a pen. If I'm feeling under the weather or the actual weather is really cold, I'll add a pack of tissues as well. The wallet has a lot of cards in it. Credit- and club cards mostly. ID card. I've also got an expired gift certificate card for cinema-going. In the compartment where you put the paper moneys I've got this card you show when going to the doctors' office (if you reach a certain sum - within a years time- you don't have to pay for the following visits/tests until the next 1-year period starts), two movie coupons (50 Kronor off when you buy 2 tickets + 10 Kronor off when you buy a medium soda and popcorn), and an appointment/contact card for a homeopath. Last, but not least, I've had my favourite poem tucked into my wallets for the past couple of years :catgirl: -
I'm pretty sure many will agree with me when I state that the ultimate of places to go window shopping in are Book stores. The creative energy that is set loose in there makes up for any lack of purchases. Even office material is fun to have a look at! Stores with household stuff are also fun to browse in because you don't feel any pressure to buy anything in there, like you might in other stores. While cups and saucepans don't get everyone excited, they'll often have some nice decorative pieces to admire (Like big Swedish Fish!). I've always been oddly attracted to hardware stores. Despite that, my dad never got me a tool box like he did my siblings.... But that's ok, since I got my own! A place that combines pretty much all of the above, for me, is IKEA. Though it's near impossible to stick with window shopping there, with so many different lovely things to buy :animestun

Opinionater: Deathknight Subject: "Authority" Question: What quality/qualities, in your opinion, make/s a great leader? Deathknight - The idea or ideals he campaigns for. Intelligence, charisma, personality, dedication and numerous other traits are all important factors that are necessary but they die with the leader, they go with him into the grave. Unfortunately many great leaders meet early demises, lol. However, his ideas, goals and dreams pass on to others- the people under him, future generations and otherwise. It influences their thoughts and aspirations. The very landscape can be affected for centuries to come just because of the things he called for and believed in, the things he fought bitterly for. Even without victory those things stay in the minds of the people and, generally, a group of inspired people can become one of the most powerful forces on Earth. A man's ideas are more impactful than the man himself to me.

Literati is a version of Scrabble and is located at Yahoo Games. It was either Sennen or Shin that introduced me to it some time ago. I fell in love instantly. Since then I'm always on the prowl for someone to play with and one day when AIM was particularly empty (or lacking Literati-friendly people) I came up with the idea to implement it in the quiz area in MyO. Literati Square was "born". I'd ask people to line up and take turns in giving me a word, a colour for it, and tell me where on the Square they wanted it placed. Then I'd fixxle it and update the image. Etcetera Etcetera. Unfortunately I suck at explaining so hopefully you know what Scrabble is, since Literati works pretty much the same. You connect the new word with an existing one on the board and everytime you do that, a new word has to be made. So if you line up an L right next to an S in a pre-existing word, you get .... LS. Which isn't a real word. Gettit? I'll start things off with a personal favourite of mine: Snuggle :catgirl: Next please! ~ Literati Square ~ Chris - Nuzzle and Snuggle belong in the same word group, namely: the awesome one ;p Boo - Danke schön! I didn't know if you meant the L in Snuggle or Nuzzle so let me know if it needs to be changed around ^_^; Sakura - *does the elephant dance* =D Lady A - I know someone's gonna be mad happy about that word being included *blows kiss* Delta - Excellent choice of word, if I may say so ;p

Author's notes You may recognize this from the thread I posted in the Lounge. However, after taking the helpful advice from John and Indifference into consideration (as well as my initial doubts), I realized the idea would be better implemented in Anthology. That way I can run this as it was intended to, not to mention [strike]go on a major power trip[/strike] keep it more controlled without excluding too many people/anyone. Right now the rating is E but that doesn?t necessarily mean it will stay kiddy friendly. It all depends on what subject pops up and the Opinionater?s answer. The way this?ll work is as follows: 1) I?ll PM a specific person (kudos to Indifference), asking if they?d like to play along. 2) They get a subject to Opinionate on. 3) Once they've PM'd me back with their answer I'll insert the Q&A into this thread. 4) Now the floor is open for audience reaction/participation until my next [strike]victim[/strike] Opinionater has been interviewed (kudos to John). Opinionater: John Subject: "General Thread Making" Question: What is your opinion on threads with guidelines/set rules vs. open floor, when it comes to member participation? John - Well, I think rules in a place like OB do more to extend the discussion than limit it. Most of the threads around here just lay down a topic, and the thread takes its course. Having parameters set on what you can do and where you can go and such tend to keep the discussion, game, or whatever more focused in a particular area, and it excels more in that area as a result. That doesn't mean open-floor threads aren't as good, though. It's really just a matter of balancing the two, I guess. For example, I'd like to see more open-floor contests or games in the Art forum, instead of having to sign up for most everything like you do. It'd be fun to have more threads around there where you can just submit a contribution on a whim.
One song I heard that was really funny was Cows With Guns but I don't remember who its by.
Perhaps a way to help get around that problem would be for the person requesting someone to give their opinion to pm the person in question and ask them to respond back if they are not interested so you can then edit your post and change it to someone else and pm the new choice.
I like the idea of this thread, i simply have a problem with the "opinionator" aspect of it. I'd love to post my opinion on tv or whatev, but now i can't because i'm not said dude. Oh well, whatev man. Oh, and if you consider this cutting then i accept my tsk points willingly...or do i?! ::i throw dirt in your eyes and run:: ^L^
Your post has got me doing cartwheels. Well, not really. My hopes with including more restriction was to prevent it from totally disintegrating into chaos, which is the case in most instances when you leave things too open. Usually when threads like this are created and you leave the torch to 'whoever posts first' you end up with multiple people posting at the same time, which leads to confusion as to which question to answer. Sooner or later the whole thing turns into dissaray with that lineup. Sara posted this wonderful thread in the Art Studio and even though she gave very clear guidelines it still got sidetracked to the point where the fun was almost lost. Luckily she managed to keep it going, with some compromises. I was hoping to inspire the same type of fun - only within a tighter frame because the Opinionater chooses its successor - minus confusion. The fact that you ended your post in that fashion doesn't help your case at all. Instead of taking your two cents seriously I almost completely disregarded them. In the end I decided to donate said two cents to some frat boys playing a beer game. That way they'll come to some use.
I'm also sorry if I'm sorta jabbing in, but can we perhaps discuss the person's opinion after they state it, or something like that (perhaps even the question as a whole)? Otherwise, a thread which might often have week-long pauses would seem kinda quiet and disconnected. But great idea nonetheless. =)
Oh, and if you consider this cutting then i accept my tsk points willingly...or do i?! ::i throw dirt in your eyes and run:: ^L^[/FONT']
If you ever throw dirt in Mimmeh's eyes again, I will murder you in the most creative way I can think of.
First off, let me buff that shining armour of yours :3 Good input, but I wonder how long said discussion should go on? Will it stop right after the next Opinionater kicks in or will people discuss the first one as well as the new one, and so on. It could easily turn into a 'meh, I didn't make it in time to say what I wanted to say so I'll just butt in and maybe answer the latest one too .... if I feel like it'. :animesigh Granted, my idea has flaws but I tried to minimize them to make a thread that'd work. Next time I should just go organize some paperwork :]

I'm going to go out on a limb and create what looks like a very silly thread .... and most likely is just that. If the Moderators that Be see absolutely no chance of this going anywhere but N00bville within the first 10 replies and don't want to do the old "Told you so, thread closed" routine, please, shut it down =) Ok! The idea is to ask a specific person about their opinion on a specific subject, although to prevent this from being a "friends only" thread I'd encourage posters to pick someone randomly (check Who's Online, for instance and choose someone from there). If the selected person does not respond within a week, the last man/woman to have stated their opinion will ask someone new. (In other words, no cutting in line in this thread. It will earn you 2 tsk-points.) There are no fixed subjects, so just because I'm intending to go with "Television" doesn't mean the next poster has to stick with that field. I do ask you to state what 'genre' you'd like the person after you to respond within. "What do you think about hamburgers?" is a rather broad question, so narrowing it down to something slightly more specific would make it easier to answer it just a little bit more concise (not that I have anything against long-winded replies ... I'm having troubles myself keeping my own stuff short ¬¬). Using the subject "Health" indicates that the poster wants to know your opinion of what you think about hamburgers role in health matters. Feel free to answer silly ("Hamburgers taste nice and make me happy, therefore I think they're good for your/my health") or in a more serious manner ("Got arteries?" .... Ok, that's still a bit silly but you get my point). Hopefully my own post will not confuse you any more than the introduction already has. Send me a PM if you're unsure on how to go about things, I'd be more than happy to straighten things out (even if, technically, the introduction is supposed to make everything clear). Let's do this! Opinionater: Charles Subject: "Television" Question: What is your opinion on the show "Mr Romance"?

A year ago I was miserable, lost a couple of very close friends, struggled with the possibility of a big move and held down an awesome apprenticeship at a local video store. Today I'm happier, much thanks to the wonderful friends that have stuck with me. The big move has happened and, while I still wake up thinking I'm in the old house, it's been a fairly smooth ride. Can't really complain there. Though I totally would >.> I'm an intern (*snickers*) at a local hotel, working with a mad awesome crew. So far they've taught me how to clean rooms, work the Breakfast shift and now the poor chefs are stuck with me for a few weeks. After that I'm getting to grips with the Reception. Hopefully a year from now I'll be living in the house my parents are planning to build. That's all I really hope for. And not losing more friends. The only thing I ever want to lose again is fat :] -
