[font=arial][size=1][center][img]http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/7899/ffpb9.png[/img][/center] [i]Hi! My name's Bumble, and I'm your new best friend! Welcome to Brickory Forest, where the days are sunny, the animals are friendly, and Mr Fox only tries to eat you when you're sleeping. He's got some class, that Mr Fox. I think you'll like him. But... lately we've had a problem. The humans have been cutting down our trees! Twitter the Sparrow has already lost his home, and Manny the Bear's favourite honey tree was lugged off just two days ago. Will you help us fend them off Jo--no no, Sal-- hmm... what was your name again?[/i] [size=2][b]Intro[/b][/size] You're a Forest Friend, a cute, lovable little animal who has just 'moved' to Brickory Forest. Unfortunately, you've come at a bad time - the humans are cutting down all the trees! It's up to you and your friends to play pranks, set traps, and scare the humans away before that destroy the whole forest. And this, my friend, is your signup. [size=2][b]Character[/b][/size] Name: (Killer/Memnoch/etc will not be accepted.) Species: (Dragon/Demon/etc will not be accepted.) Colouring: (As red as the blood moon/As black as the deepest night/etc will not be accepted.) Disposition: (Think Disney.) Anything else: (Whatever you think is relevant to your Forest Friend!) [size=2][b]Restrictions[/b][/size] So, this is an E rated RP. Thus, you're not gonna be describing the endless torrents of blood spilling from Mr Fox's neck after the loggers shoot him to keep him away from his lunch. It won't. Be like that. Good clean family fun, with a firm sense of innuendo and irony, [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minced_oath]minced oaths[/url], and all under 300 words a piece. If we keep the world count low, it'll be easier to post often, see? In theory, anyway. Really, I just want to have fun in an RP without killing anyone or involving obscene amounts of unnecessary violence and sex. Extend this attitude to your posting, and we should all have fun. :) [size=2][b]My Character[/b][/size] Name: Bumble Species: Hare Colouring: Brown with white speckles Disposition: Friendly, if a bit bossy. Likes to be the leader. Anything else: Has a weakness for the human-food 'chocolate'[/size][/font]

[COLOR=Indigo][SIZE=1][FONT=Arial][QUOTE=Sandy]There's that pedestal I was talking about again. Remember that Event Master isn't a god-like status, the one holding it is just a human being like the rest of us. One person can only do so much... Seriously,if you want weight on the word [I]community[/I] in Community Events, it means the community has to have a lot more involvement not only by participating, but by planning and executing as well. This has proven to be working in events such as the Nifty Fifty and the Scavenger Hunt, where several members worked alongside Shy to make them better than one single person could've possibly done. I believe the magnitude you're talking about came from that type of cooperation, not solely from Shy's authority. We're talking about things that have already happened, here. Common members have been contributing to the events in other ways than mere participation since the beginning. Aaryanna_Mom's suggestion would just take that to a whole new level.[/QUOTE] There's a fundamental difference between members running events and members assisting in events. While those events were greatly assisted by member, help, it was Shy's passion and drive to come up with and execute the concepts that made them what they were. Without Shy those event would've fallen apart, and that's where he gets his authority from. He's just that good. That said, the suggestion isn't a bad one, though I sure hope we don't get inundated with carefully disguised game threads. Even now I'm starting to suspect Mafia would've worked as just a game in OL, but maybe a bit less formally. Also, no RP events. That'd be a big one, I reckon. In the new system I think the Event Director would have to be a strict mf, though, asking for more than just ideas and delving even into the realms of the Event Masters commitment, past, and record at OB. The last thing we need is the rotting corpses of dead, abandoned events stinking up the Community Events. [/FONT][/SIZE][/COLOR]

[COLOR=Indigo][SIZE=1][FONT=Arial][quote name='Mr. Maul][size=1][color=DimGray]In the style of Charles...[/color][/size][center][size=1][color=DimGray][img]http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/mrmaul/mormons1.png[/img][/color][/size'][/center][/quote] [center][img]http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/518/bstarfailhg9.png[/img][/center] The kind of information those genealogy sites provide is received by them trawling through public records, which you could do as well. Of course, that's boring, tiring, and not even a sure thing, which is why genealogy websites make so much cash - it's easier to pay someone else to do it than attempt it solo. Good luck, bro.[/FONT][/SIZE][/COLOR]

Ohio Mother Accused of Microwaving her Baby to Death

[size=1][color=indigo][font=arial][QUOTE=Sandy]I actually thought about it, but then Shy beat me to it. I don't know if I would've had the guts for it, anyway. XP I'd imagine it really [I]would've[/I] been entertaining for the outside viewer, though.[/QUOTE] I'd have sooner slit my wrists... And man, if you didn't explode, you'd not have spent three posts arguing with Papa Smurf passive aggressively over ****ing semantics. Since when is that not an explosion? You're a pressure cooker dude, one bit of crit you don't like and BOOM. You can conveniently forget about stuff like that, and point at how you used smileys when talking back at SunfallE or Aaryanna, but the community as a whole is gonna remember the times you got into flame wars over things you could've ignored, especially if you don't consider them important enough to accept as criticism.[/font][/color][/size]

[COLOR=Indigo][SIZE=1][FONT=Arial][QUOTE=Sandy]Steps? In my opinion I've [I]always[/I] been open to member criticism, I just have the idea that if it's not respectful and constructive, I won't take it - and I [I]will[/I] defend my views in those cases. I know I'm overly sensitive by these things, but it's my personality and I can't just change it in a blink of an eye. However, I'm working on my patience and "humbleness", if you can say that. I still don't approve that some members are allowed to add downright insulting stuff as a part of their criticism here, brushing it off as "sarcasm" or "witty sense of humor". It's easy to talk like that when you're at the Internet, but some people tend to forget that there's a [I]real living humanbeing[/I] behind every single screenname, each with their own emotions, personalities and backgrounds. Not everybody can handle such type of "humor". But yeah, I have a lot of personal issues which I've been working on...[/QUOTE] Not all criticism is constructive, and not all constructive criticism will outright hold your hand and tell you what to do. Dealing with **** like that is what makes a good Event Master - exploding publicly on things that are less the current criticism (even if its unfounded) and more past, unrelated history, doesn't. If you win this (ha), I'd recommend changing your attitude to your critics, because it didn't win you any friends in this thread, and made you look like a dick to everyone else who was just watching. Also, congratulations on your event not bombing. I mean, I've not read it, cause my interest in RPs is minimal at best (especially those I'm not involved in), but it looks like it has a good number of replies, for an RP. Not an event, mind, but it's doing well for an RP.[/FONT][/SIZE][/COLOR]

Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread

[COLOR=Indigo][SIZE=1][FONT=Arial]Shinmaru (also known as Shin, Mick, and biatch) is a popular member who is reknown for his exceptional writing skill. He originally came to OB as mirai_torankusu, but quickly changed his name when he realised everyone thought he was a n00b. He was promoted to mod of Nintendo almost instantly after de-n00bifying himself, but did very little modding as Nintendo was a ghost town at the time. Despite this, his Nintendo mod status was mocked heavily in the opening chapters of Enter the Net, despite the fact that Shinmaru actually owned and appreciated other consoles. When v7 came around, Shin became a mod of Play It, and stayed there for many months until college gave him a Stone Cold Stunner hard enough to destroy his ability to mod for months, if not years (this is because, unlike other college age OB members, Shin actually cares about his grades enough to study and do homework instead of mod). He continues to post at OB though, all over the boards like a wandering samurai. Apart from his modding, Shin is perhaps best known for making Syk3 sammiches, being Desbreko's biatch (for nad-kicking), knowing more about wrestling than a hip Californian should, and posting complex and deep stories in OB Anthology. Though some might not, Shin considers this a legacy to be proud of.[/FONT][/SIZE][/COLOR] -
[COLOR=Indigo][SIZE=1][FONT=Arial][QUOTE=White][COLOR=DimGray][FONT=Tahoma]I have no idea if it's certain files or not. All I know is it happens with some videos but on both Quicktime and Windows Media Player. Bummer. :( I already tried re-installing. :/[/FONT][/COLOR][/QUOTE] Well it's one of two things then. For one, it could be a video card issue, which is hard to diagnose and expensive to fix. The second though, just involves the default codecs installed on your new PC, and should be fixable by either getting new codecs, or reinstalling the old ones. There's a lot of codec packs out there though, and I use Mac so my knowledge of them is limited, so I'd reccommend hunting the internet for the best choices. Until then, try VLC Player, which has all its codecs built in, but a pretty poor web plugin. It might not be an ideal solution, but it'd work in the short term for local videos.[/FONT][/SIZE][/COLOR]

[QUOTE=SunfallE][COLOR=RoyalBlue]What type of videos are they? I've heard that Macs and PCs display images with different gamma levels. If you're working with a compression tool that supports gamma adjustment, an image you create on a Mac and display on a PC will look dark. An image created on a PC and displayed on a Mac will look too bright. So perhaps that's the cause? That the video was made on the opposite of what you use? Beyond that I don't know what could have caused it. And if that is the case I don't know how you would fix it since it would be a problem with the actual video, I think. Seeing that you said only certain videos are affected. Oh and I love the way you are basically adversting this thread in your signature. ^_~ It worked since here I am. [/COLOR][/QUOTE] [size=1][color=indigo][font=arial]Gamma is a hardware thing, not a software thing. For your example, the images in question have exactly the same byte order and ****, but the actual hardware processes it differently, largely because of default gamma settings on video cards. I can assure you without a shadow of a doubt, gamma has nothing to do with it. Try reinstalling Quicktime, clearing the registry settings and all. Nothing like a clean slate to get things going.[/font][/color][/size]

[COLOR=Indigo][SIZE=1][FONT=Arial][quote name='ChibiHorsewoman][color=#9933ff][font=lucida calligraphy]Am I theonly one who finds that comment extremely inappropriate for this topic? Sorry but those baby jokes were never that funny for me in the first place and this is really not the right place to make a comment like that.[/color'][/font][/quote] It was brilliant. I love dead baby jokes. Before you cast judgment, kids, keep this in mind: "suspect" isn't a synonym for "perpetrator". It seems to be a trend to forget basic english like that, in this thread.[/FONT][/SIZE][/COLOR] -

[QUOTE=Dragon Warrior][size=1]Haha, ohhh, John :) But yes, I agree. If you can (and are willing to), you oughta try kickin' the habit. Is there a particular reason you smoke? If not, what drove you to do it in the first place? If it's mainly just addiction now, you have better reason to go cold turkey.[/size][/QUOTE] [size=1][color=indigo][font=arial]Man, he wasn't asking for a lecture, he was asking for ways to tell/not tell his parents. Honestly, everyone has heard every non smoking shtick ever by this point, people who keep smoking do so knowing full well the effects it'll have on them and their health. You can't convince them otherwise, especially not on a forum on the internet.[/font][/color][/size]

[quote name='AzureWolf][COLOR=maroon']Alternatively, you could quit smoking all together. For the mellow feeling and addiction without the harmful effects on your teeth and lungs, reach for nicotine gums![/COLOR][/quote] [size=1][color=indigo][font=arial]Nicotine gum isn't nearly as badass.[/font][/color][/size]

[QUOTE=darkisMINE][B][COLOR=SeaGreen][FONT=Tahoma]I have just recently come across an amazing band named "Say Anything" and my song of the week MUST be "Every Man Has A Molly". I picked this song for 3 reasons: Reason #1: My name is Molly. So I have decided that this song is about me. Reason #2: This song is one of the nicest things to grace my ears since I discovered "Daft Punk". Reason #3: "Every Man Has A Molly", is about how the singer picked his band over his lover. That's just...very "practical", for lack of a better word.[/FONT][/COLOR][/B][/QUOTE] [size=1][color=indigo][font=arial]Hahaha. No it's not. It's about how his girlfriend dumped him because of his band, and how he thinks she's a total ***** as a result, and is telling everyone, everywhere. I love that song, but Alive With The Glory Of Love is better.[/font][/color][/size]

[indent][color=indigo][font=arial][size=1]"Oh God... what has he done?" The woman - barley in her thirties - was staring at the hung corpse of her son. He'd done it in the basement. Always the basement. Slowly she dropped to her knees, cradled his dangling feet and started to cry. Suddenly, the body shifted, and she blinked, confused. "April Fools mum!"[/size][/font][/color][/indent]

[COLOR=Indigo][SIZE=1][FONT=Arial][QUOTE=Sandy]Actually, now that the subject is on the table, I've had some thoughts on how to make Community Events forum much more interactive and open to ideas, and I'm pretty much on the same tracks with Aaryanna_Mom. It's not like other members haven't been able to make suggestions as events before, but [I]maybe[/I] they haven't been encouraged enough, I can't say. :/ [I]My[/I] thoughts took me as far as transferring all the popular game threads that have been popping up lately at the Lounge into the Community Events forum. They would have to have the acceptance of the Event Master first, of course. Because anybody can practically create threads at the section, nobody would have to worry about making anybody a moderator or anything like that - the Event Master would supervice it all like you suggested, James. That way the Community Events forum would become a much more lively place than it is now, with multiple smaller games being held there instead of the Otaku Lounge, as well as the occasional bigger events organized by the Event Master. Well, that's at least my [I]vision[/I] which I was hesitant to bring up before, but it's good to hear other people have had similar thoughts.[/QUOTE] It's Community [I]Events[/I], not Community [I]Games[/I]. What part of "Choose what you'd do out of two awful choices" strikes you as an event? Or, how about, "Add a funny caption to my stupid picture"? Events are carefully planned and processed to involve the whole community, games are spur of the moment rubbish. Fun, yeah, but they hardly deserve to be elevated to the level of an event.[/FONT][/SIZE][/COLOR]

[QUOTE=Raiyuu][FONT=Trebuchet MS]Updated with entries on Brasil and The OtakuBoards League of Not-So-Extrodinary Gentlemen And Stuff. I also went through and added categories to any members in Notable Members that didn't already have them; likewise for the Notable Threads. I left the PRP for now in case anyone wants to follow DK's advice and add more info. This thing is getting so enormous it's hard to navigate, especially when you're using the Standard Editor and half the little window's full of vBcode. Charles, do you know the [thread=*****][/thread] tag? It makes linking to threads much quicker and uses fewer characters than using the URL tag every time, so you can fit more in each post. What I was getting at is, would it be sensible to have a separate post for each large category (i.e. every section with a Roman numeral)? That way we wouldn't have to edit the whole 'pedia to add a new article, just the relevant category post.[/FONT][/QUOTE] [size=1][color=indigo][font=arial]I just finished making a WordPress run site for Charles to help manage it all. Jeh-willing, it'll be up within a few days.[/font][/color][/size] -

[COLOR=Indigo][SIZE=1][FONT=Arial]To add a little to n00b Hunter... [quote]The main plot concerned the hunting down and destruction of 'Sonic Blaster', an infamous myOtaku user who cheated his way to the number one ranking at that site, though there was side plots involved as well (including many one offs). The cast of characters was taken primarily from myOtaku users who knew DeadSeraphim directly, and involved many in-jokes. At one point a comprehensive website existed for the series, but it has since been removed. DeadSeraphim despises this series, despite being its author.[/quote][/FONT][/SIZE][/COLOR] -

[font=arial][size=1][color=indigo]Shinje is a long time member of OB who is almost universally overlooked. He originally came to OB as 's@bretooth', but quickly settled into a pattern of 'Shinji' related names, which initially caused him no end of trouble, due to 'Shinji' being the name of one of the people who brought down version 2 of OtakuBoards. He spent a good portion of his early years at OB escaping this stigma. Shinje has been a quiet contributor to OB, rarely embarking on anything large (and, sadly, when trying to, being ignored), and often being mistaken as new member. He changes his avatar and sig themes almost often as he changes his usernames, and references to obscure pop culture have almost become a trademark of his sig/av sets. Despite his lowkey presence, however, Shinje has always watched quietly from the sideline, and his in-depth Otakupedia articles about very early OB phenomena are testament to this. Shinje is from New Zealand and thus pretty awesome. He looks nothing like Shinji from Neon Genesis Evagelion. This is all we know about his personal life.[/color][/size][/font] -
