1. Sony is hard to put faith in by default, cause it says a lot of really stupid and absurd things in the press that just consistently show that they're living in their own, personal, Sony bubble. They've made claims as far reaching as "XBox 360 is just following in our footsteps with online play" to "Wii's controller is a clear rip off of ours". It's meant to cater to the fanboys, sure, but to the rest of the world - you know, the people who can see the ******** for what it is - it's just strange, stupid behaviour. I mean, the fanboys will always have faith. Even if they wait in the rain for a week to get a console and don't receive one, they'll put it down to Sony being so popular they sold out, not Sony didn't have enough for everyone. I strongly doubt any of Sony's recent actions will sway them, really. For the people who aren't so blindly devoted to the big PS though, Sony has lost a lot of credibility in their eyes. From the endless lawsuits, to the asking price of the console, to Sony's consistently bizarre press releases surrounding the launch... it's all just eroded at their image, honestly. Sony is less "the big innovator who brought gaming into a new age" now, and more "the big imitator who still thinks they are lord and master of the gamingverse... but not" at this point.
  2. Sara's thread is great and all, but I have trouble remembering last week, let alone 8 years ago. So this is my thread for boasting about what you're arranging to get from your olds this year or, if you have less malleable parents, what you're begging for. Personally, I've never done the latter, which is why I still have pride and am still awesome. Anyway, this Christmas I'm stuck, since I have most everything I want. I've got my car, I've got my MacBook... I think, honestly? I want clothes. Not dorky clothes though, clothes that are hott. I think I'll use the Christmas money I get (cause I'm 17, Christmas money is the default gift from basically all aunts and uncles) to further that aim, if Mum or Dad doesn't buy me some anyway. I also want the GCN version of Twilight Princess, which I've subtlety told Dad (*ring ring* "Hello?" "Yo, Dad, I know what you can get me for Christmas." "Hold on, let me get a pen.") is the case. I also want either glasses (for correcting vision), or a new camera off Mum, but I'm not sure what she's getting me. It's not a huge concern at the moment. I mean, I'm 17 dammit. Christmas long ago lost its sparkle! In the realm of undoable Christmas wishes, I would like for the OC to be dropped on its head and killed, because if it makes any more awful fashion trends (leggings under skirts, girls?! Honestly now.) I will destroy it myself. Seriously. So what do you want?
  3.
Yeah, because all us American's are suckers for a foreign accent. :animenose That's probably why we let Hugh Grant off so easy. He was Brittish and he sounded so.. .actually I have no idea why that happened, I was only thirteen when he boinked Devine Brown. :animeswea[/color']
[strike]British? British? Australia has all of three international actors who were actually born in Australia, and you go call one of them British? Good Lord woman, I'm shocked, appalled, but mostly saddened. The lengths you Americans will go to to wipe Australia off the map are legendary. Hugh is Australian. Don't be forgetting, because he's also Wolverine, and Van Helsing, and thus badass, and will not think twice to subjecting you to old school Australian punishment. Yeah.[/strike] Oh, ****, I was thinking of Hugh Jackman. Damn these charming stars and their similar names. Though Hugh Grant is a twit who can't act. That boy is riding on his accent to succeed. I eat the liver and onions, because it's tastier. Also, I don't know what the other thing is. Would you rather be killed by Jason Vorhees or Freddy Krueger?
  4.
I wasn't implying that all events must be RPGs, far from it. I agree that Scavenger Hunt was innovative and appealed to everybody, but if I had created a quiz-type of event, everybody would now be putting me down for copying it. The same effect would've resulted from an award-type of event. It's a no-win situation. Like I said, I created an event that I thought would have great chances to be successful from earlier experiences, plus one I'd enjoy making. I'm just a human being, you can't really expect for me to come up with a whole new and sparkling concept that would revitalize the entire OtakuBoards in just ten days. Now I'll stop being on a defensive stance, because honestly I'm repeating myself, and you are provoking me to do it on purpose. You don't want to understand, DeadSeraphim, you just want to provoke like your habit is. Charles: I completely understand your point-of-view, and I respect your feedback. At least you know what "constructive" means.
Of course, I'm sure you can see where I could misconstrue your stance when you make bold claims like "I wasn't even trying to cater to everybody's needs, because I believe it can't be done in a single event". Honestly now. Also, I've not tried to consciously provoke you on purpose once, in fact this is the first time I've quoted you in weeks, if not months. But seriously, you want constructive criticism? I think you shouldn't have tried so hard to be mysterious and secretive, because even if your sign ups haven't suffered for it, your events reputation has. I also think purposely focusing on one demographic (the RP types) instead of the entire forum (cause, you know, it's a Community Event), was a bad move on your part. Apart from that, I'm just disappointed that all three events are essentially RPs - I could understand one or two, but we got a ****ing trifecta, man. My whole problem with OI2 has been that it all comes off as less epic, community involving events and more 'showcase your rp ideas in a different forum'. So yeah. There's your constructive criticism, stop bitching.
  5.
As I said earlier, I wasn't even trying to cater to everybody's needs, because I believe it can't be done in a single event.
Nifty Fifty, the Scavenger Hunt, the plain old Otaku Awards - everyone got behind those, they were for the most part accessible to everyone and had no crazy prerequisites for entry. On top of that, they were wildly successful - looks like events that cater to everyone have been created before to me. And what was the common attribute to all them? They weren't RPGs.. If you'd approached Otaku Idol 2 from a different angle, it would be entirely viable to do an event that everyone can get involved in, in some way. I mean, seriously - Event != RPG by default.
  6. I would rather be the millionaire, but instead of spending my money on ****ing celebrities, which you have explicitly outlawed, I would invest the money in businesses all over the world that would reap me high dividends. Once the day was over, I'd still have money in my name accruing interest all over the world, and then, once free of the strict controls you have placed on my life, I would pay Kirsten Dunst much cash to be my personal... maid. Sex maid, perhaps. Would you rather be Batman or Wolverine from the X-Men?
  7. Give me the scar, man. My Mum has told me the horror stories about giving birth without pain killers. As a male, just the concept of something so small coming out of an area so small is fearsome (I think it can be compared to a guy passing a golf ball out his cock), but without pain killers? Scar me, baby. Bungee jump or skydive? It's a harder decision that you might think. Raiyuu, if I wanted to kill this thread, I'd have done it a long time ago.
  8.
Teehee, I should've seen this coming. :3 Sandy, I didn't try to tear you into bits and pieces (neither of you). This was constructive, in a way. As I was one of those people who did not read the entire thread, I had a good reason to explain why I didn't do so. Firstly, then obviously your RPG thing lacks. This is not supposed to be just an RP that may catch some people's attention and leaves the rest out of it. It's supposed to be a community event. That you don't even try avoiding people losing their interest, already proves that you failed at the event part. Secondly, if this is just an RPG, why don?t you post it in your own section? Thirdly, people are more easily attracted by a thread if it has more replies, since then they see the thread is somewhat interesting. Now you may say it's essential to the RPG thing that you made people PM you the profiles, but I still think it doesn't work out well. Period. So, it was meant constructive, but if you can?t see it, it?s too bad. And I?ll still take that cookie while you?re asleep so don?t worry about that. Gavin, this table makes the text stand out a lot more. My eyes are grateful. As for the banner, I just meant to say that it wasn?t very clear. Partly because at first I couldn?t even see what it was, and afterwards I didn?t really get the connection between Dragonball and a writing contest. Though I?m flattered, I?m not sure if you needed to take the banner off for me, I might be the only one who had that problem with it. I think there?s still some attention puller thing needed on top, but I?m not sure what it should be (my mind?s not really functioning well anymore). Perhaps someone else has an idea. I?ll just shush now, before I get more people on my back. Just to repeat: it was all meant in a constructive way. Not just to smite your prides. I guess it depends on what you're used to. :3
I think I love you, Boo.
  9. Drowned. It's the most peaceful way to die. Sadism or masochism?
  10. 1. What do you [as a member] want to see most in a RP? Just a fun vibe, and some inginuity. I don't want the same old ****. 2. What RP rating do you [as a member] usually play in? Whatever's appealing at the time. The rating doesn't matter to me. 3. Does humorous fun outweigh killing and gore or vice-versa? [Come on... be honest] Hell. Yes. 4. Do you post mainly for RP's whenever you enter the Boards? No, lol. Shy usually has to force an entry out of me.
  11.
I'd rather be chased by a predator. It'd suck to be chased by a bunch of those aliens. I'd much rather just deal with one predator. Would you rather write an essay or do some advanced mathematics?
The essay, I'm awful at maths. "You've been sent to prison. Are you the butch, or are you the *****?"
  12. Both. Death by bear mauling or marriage to Donald Trump?
  13.
OHHHH... I thought he was saying they were a dime a dozen or something. Haha, well played, Dead.
I am kind of amazing.
  14. Take your pick, buddy.
  15. I'd sing... naked. "Live forever and never know love, or live only three years but be in the most positive and beautiful relationship you'll ever have?"
  16.
Unless, of course, someone else[/I'] wants to keep this game alive.
What was stopping you, genius? "You have to choose between a few short years as an AIDS infected individual, or a complete life-time withouts AIDS, but with no genitals. What do you pick?"
  17.
"Would you live without fingers for a year or would you live without OB for the rest of your life?"[/size']
Ahahahaha. Of course I'd prefer to go without OB. I mean, seriously, it's a forum, man. There's not a whole lot of things I'd be willing to go without fingers for, and a forum - an anime forum no less - doesn't even rate. Now, if this regarded the internet in general, it'd be a whole different story. lol "You are going to die - it's inevitable kid. Do you tell your family and have them worry about your impending complete organ failure, or take a sky dive and never pull the parachute so it looks like a tragic accident, thus sparing your family months of worry and grief?"

    Last Movie

The last movie I saw was Jackass 2. It was hilarious, though I missed parts of it (mostly tiny bits of the huge ending prank, and the credits).
The ending was great, I laughed so much when they used their pubes for beard hair. haha

  19.
Sense of humor is not appropriate when discussing one's religion. You should know this by now, everybody should. And i have a fantastical sense of humor. Just look at my avatar and sig for Christ's sake!
I looked at your avatar and sig, and well... I'm not feeling it.
  20.
At the same time, I'm not sure if it's reasonable to have Moderators slapping ratings on everything all the time - it would take a while and would end up being a waste of their time (when they could actually be moderating content).
Maybe a system. They do it for members only once or twice, but if its consistent they get locked regardless.
  21.
Well, America is supposably the best country in the world where everyone is equal and you can get a job no matter what. But still, have you ever seen a woman/colored president? Of course not, but that doesn't make you want to stop being American does it?
Difference being, ethnic people and women actually have a chance, and a right, as written into the Constitution. Mormonism just flat out says no. It's not a strong comparison to make.
  22. You're just a sucker for punishment, aren't you kid? lol 1. What religion are you CURRENTLY following? If you don't have one, then why? I'm Christian, though I don't identify with any major churches. I'm pretty sure Gavin would spit roast me for that, but meh. I believe sincerely that Jesus Christ died for our sins, and that he keeps acting my life today, so that's basically all I need. 2. Why do you follow that religion? Parents, personal reasons, etc? Personal reasons. 3. Do you ever feel that people often critisize you because of these beliefs? Sometimes. My mother isn't especially supportive, and I have athiest friends who scoff, but it's usually pretty cruisey. 4. This one may spark a little bit of arguing: Do you believe that your religion is the one true religion? If so provide evidence. I do, but I don't have evidence. If I had evidence it wouldn't be religion, lol, cause religion revolves around the concept of faith - faith that your beliefs are right even when you can' corroborate it.
  23.
Alan, what you're describing here is no different than game demos. Don't tell me to "get it right" because you're entirely getting it wrong, dude. And it's not "exactly the same thing" at all. Shareware and freeware were used to advertise a game, to get people aware of a game. NOT to suck more money out of people after they've already paid 60 dollars. What you're talking about are marketing tools. What's going on here is price-gouging. Two radically different things. And plus, you tried to say that people didn't like the idea of shareware. A few decades worth of gaming trends tend to pretty much obliterate such an assessment. So really, I don't know what you're trying to say here. There's no way in hell you can begin to seriously compare mid-90s marketing tools used by fledgling developers to generate interest in a product, and what ******** we're seeing from EA. Why do you think something like Duke Nukem 3D was such a huge hit, if people didn't like shareware? Were you even playing video games back when shareware was big? Were you even born yet?
Demos? I've never known a demo to include an entire third of the game, Alex. I've known demos to take me through one or two specific sections, but never do they let you play from the start all the way through a third - and then have it tell me you to buy a serial or get out. Once you got the serial though, the rest was right there. In practice, shareware games were a fundamentally different concept to demos because of that, it let you get a real solid experience with the game then if you were willing to support the studio, it let you keep going. Demos just give you enough to cut your teeth on but just enough to (ideally) leave you wanting more, then you'd have to go out and buy the game separately. In both scenarios you're getting a taste of a full game, but the circumstances, execution, and the fact demos are never refered to as shareware, or vice verca, outside of your claims in this thread, make them entirely different beasts. But I digress. Episodic content is similar to shareware (by the way I'm defining it) because you already have the full game at your fingertips (or would, if they weren't hosted online - you've still payed for a full game though), but you have to pay a little bit extra once you hit that point. And with that said, I'm done arguing pointless semantics. Post Script: Shareware as a concept only worked really on the **** that was new and exciting, like the original Doom. Duke Nukem 3D got more sales through off the shelf than shareware, and rode the controversy wave more than the shareware wave (Charles summed it up earlier as Doom with strippers, which piqued people's attention - lucky the gameplay was solid, huh?). The fact that shareware as a marketting concept died out shows that people got sick of it for gaming (utility shareware is still going strong, of course).
  24.
Well, the underlying mistake in what Alan here is saying is that shareware/freeware in how he's using it is something totally different to the crap EA is trying to pull here. And he says how people don't like shareware, but yet, that's what game demos are: portions of the game you can play for free. Duke Nukem 3D got major cred through its shareware/freeware campaign back in the 1990s...it's basically what got people to pay attention to the game. Same principle here. Freeware/shareware are absolutely not the same thing as EA's crap, and I don't really see how pointing to shareware is a valid point at all in that regard. We'd be comparing free game demos to partial games you still have to pay for. It's a comparison that makes no sense in the first place, because, realistically, who doesn't like free game demos?
Shareware aren't demos. Demos are portions of incomplete games, where you're only being given a taste of the game. Shareware gave you whole complete portions of the game - Doom gave you the entire first episode for example - with no limits, and everything done, and when you got to a point they'd ask you to donate/buy a serial, you'd input it, and bam, rest of the game. Demo != Shareware, get it right. And that's what makes this exactly the same thing. You'd have full control of the game, and no limits, and it would be done, but once you hit a point it'd be BAM - buy next installment, plz (well, worst case scenario, I mean). The only difference is you'd have payed $60 already for the game, and therein lies the problem.
  25. The Dresden Dolls with Jason Webley and the Red Paintings. Webley was amazing, the Dolls rocked the house, and the Red Paintings... the less said the better. Jason Webley's appearances made my night though, he was so ****ing awesome. Add into this equation three drunk friends, and you have the second best outing I've been on all year (the best being the outing where I met my gf, of course).
