I really don?t know what to think, I suppose it?s only a matter of time before American police and sheriff forces are actively deployed in schools to prevent this sort of thing from occurring again, and again, and again
These things aren't nearly common enough to justify putting cops in schools. They are one offs, really, even if they have happened a bit more frequently than they have in the past. For every school that has a shooting, a thousand more never even have a gun on the premises. It's not gonna happen. I applaud the media for not making another Columbine out of this. Columbine was covered far too much, and almost (almost) deified the shooters, especially when they started blaming everyone BUT the shooters. While this is a catastrophe, the best thing they can do for all involved is try and keep it as low key as possible.

Firefox user here. Switched from IE to Firefox in 2004 because it was new. Tabbed browsing was just a bonus that I found out about hours after I installed it. I could use IE since it already offers tabbed browsing but I can't figure out how to make it load pages faster. Plus, Firefox's Download Manager keeps me coming back. Question: Many of you say that Firefox is more secure than IE. If I have a paranoid firewall on, will security for both browsers be on a par?
Nope. IE has exploits that specifically use ActiveX controls, something not present in FireFox.

To people who support the death penalty: In Indonesia, drug trafficking is an executable defense. Is it really justified in that case? They didn't kill anyone (at least not directly), they merely broke a law that would only result in jail time in other countries. If you take the stance that a government is infallible in its dispension of punishment, does that mean you endorse the Indonesian government killing mere drug traffickers for a crime considerably less than murder? I don't support the death penalty. I think it's a useless and barbaric way to dispense punishment, and speaks volumes about how the human race will never escape it's savage past. We can put a man on the moon, we can make citrus flavoured tooth paste, but we can't think of a way to deal with (some) criminals apart from murder them. Oi. Luckily, Australia has no death penalty, so I don't have to go picket any time soon. Go me.

Man (girl?) you need a scanner. Asap. These'd look so much better if they were scanned properly. Anyway, it's easy to see where you've improved from that first drawing, especially with proportions (seriously, the first one is like a bobble head doll). I think I like the top one best, not the least because of the cleavage. It's a lot cleaner and less cluttered than the others, and the colouring seems a bit better too. By contrast, I think the second one's colouring is a bit distracting and the third has a bit too much going on for something with such sparse and subdued colouring. But yeah. Good work!
You'd be surprised how easily experienced teaching staff can spot plagiarism just by the 'voice' used in writing it. Of course, reworking helps if you're going down that road - one utter twerp at my school tried to get away with finding a relevant website and just hitting Print - it came out with the URL printed in the footer and he handed it in anyway. Didn't end well for him. I'll leave you all with this sobering treatise on the Internet phenomenon known as the Wikipedian.
I think Encyclopedia Dramatic does a better job of revealing these menaces to society.

See, that's a common misconception. It's true to some extent, but whenever somone edits an artical, it is voted upon by members of Wikipedia. If it is considered accurate by the majority of the people who voted, it gets put up, but if not it just gets thrown out. You can't just go and edit the Holocaust article and say "teh holocost was a zionits li!" because you'll get shut down and probably banned. Generally Wikipedia is very reliable as a result. Not that Wikipedia should be taken as absolute, but it's not like some no-nothing no-body can just go and post whatever he or she feels like.
That's where you're wrong. Anyone can edit Wikipedia. You can go there now, hit edit, and put whatever ******** you want on any article - it may get removed, but you can do it at anytime. There is no voting procedure for any edit, it just happens. You want to wipe out the page about Power Rangers and replace it with 'The Power Rangers suck cock'? You can do it without anyone knowing, or for the most part, any action taken except a revert to previous content. Voting at wikipedia only applies to things like controversial page moves, deleting pages, and admin swearing in. If every edit was to be voted on, nothing would get done.
The part at the beginning where it shows the white title screen, flashes to black, then flashes back to white and fades the text in is kinda jolting. I think you could've resolved that by just having it fade very quickly instead. Other than that, pretty slick stuff. Also, I think I have a very vague memory of eating a honeycrisp apple once, and that it was indeed better than any other apple I had ever eaten. Sorry, loser. :D
Way to steal my girl, arsehole.

This is something stupid I made up using a portion of a chat me and Sara had earlier today (for the record, Red Delicious is better, thus why it's called Red Delicious). It's not a complex thing I have done, but I like it anyway. Thots? (The pacing is hard to get right, and I've ****** with it for about half an hour now, so if you have a problem with it, be sure I will probably never do anything about it.)
Hm. So how much do you make on average for one blog site/community? That, and do you get money through page hits or ad clicks? I understand that the payment would rely on you advertising your site, and I don't mean to pry, I'm just seeing if it's something worth looking into seriously. Thanks.
For most small blogs you're looking at $10 a week tops. And that's a blog plastered in ads. Also, if you get into blogging for the money you're doing it for the wrong reasons, and readers can tell, so I'd consider it carefully. I work as a Personal Assistant to my Mum, and I get paid **** all a week. I'm quitting next year, thankfully.

Writing O' Brother not another, OB parody! [PG-13-LS}
It's not digging if it's still on the first page, right? I can't download Maple Story properly without Internet Explorer, let alone visit the site to check recent updates and charge NX cash or anything of the sort. I don't know why they don't just make it Firefox/Opera freindly already, but it has become rather annoying. I use Opera as my main browser. I downloaded it about two weeks ago, and I'm absolutely in love with it. The tabbing feature is of course, one of my favorites. I also love how it keeps your tabs open even if you close the page. Imagine being able to have most of the same features as firefox plus a prettier default face plus the widgets

How did you come up with your internet/screen name ?
DeadSeraphim replied to corpseman's topic in General Discussion
It's an honorary title, given only to those who can successfully hold of an alien invasion without civilian casualties. Fortunately, the government never saw fit to examine the contents of my 'Casualty Pit', otherwise I might have something lame, like RiflesAtRecess, or Shinmaru. -
Not really. If you let go of a car steering wheel, it stays attached to the car. If you let go of this, it'll fall. Just try holding a plate like a wireless steering wheel. The position I instinctively went into was letting it limp a little with my arms bent down and the plate below waist level (this is while sitting). I don't know about you, but I found it incredibly ill-fitting. It feels much more comfortable holding it out front, and that, like I've said a couple times already, would get tiring. I'd much rather use a Wiimote sideways.
Well you'd have to hold the Wiimote out in front anyway to simulate the steering wheel, so I guess you're gonna have to suffer, kid. The peripheral is just to make it easier, and besides which, it's not like a clunky foot wide addition - it's barely wide than the Wiimote itself. Yet again, I declare it a nonissue.
-
Still, stretching your arms out like that? It'll get heavy after a while. With just the Wiimote, it's small enough so that you can rest your elbows on your knees, but the wheel is too big for that. Too awkward.[/FONT']
You could still rest it on your knees. lol Just the same as you can steer a car with your elbows on your knees. They wouldn't be releasing it if it didn't work, so I think it's a nonissue.
Considering I listen to more techno in a week than most of you listen to music in a year I stick with di.fm. I did check out Pandora and its quite a little site, and the music recommendations aren't too bad either.[/SIZE']
You're in entirely the wrong thread to be making claims like that, kid. Unless you make a habit of listening to more than 15000 songs a week (Shinmaru's total for a year, recorded at Last.fm - I've managed almost 30000 and Kevin is getting up to 60000), your techno output a week doesn't approach the BMF in this thread.

Open floor threads can turn into an orgy of pointless noise and spam, so you should probably avoid them, especially if they involve the posting of pictures and have even the remotest possibility of insecure women finding them and abusing it for an ego boost. I mean, I'm not mentioning any threads in particular, just a general comment. Honest. On the other hand, strict rules, when applied, can also make threads suck. I remember once Acheron spent half his post telling people to follow the rules or they'd die a horrible death, and got burned for it at least 4 times for being too damn stringent. It needs to be a middle ground, where you set up a topic with some kind of structured, not-stupid question to keep it going but allow enough space for growth and general forum rubbishing on.

Let's talk about sex (Mature please)

A) My gut reaction was steal it back. It's not really thievery if you already own it right? B)This isn't *exactly* the same thing, but... I was at a party once, and me and a friend had spent over $50 on alcohol, since it was BYO. Before the night was through over half of it had been stolen by people we considered friends. Only when the guy running the party offered to hide it inside was it saved - and then his Mum and sister drank most of it. Seriously, out of 24 cans of Rum and Coke we both got about 6 a piece. That leaves about 12 unaccounted for - next time we're taking our own bloody esky.

I've only ever used Pandora to get listening reccomendations. Otherwise I'm more than happy with the stat counters at Last.fm, kids.

Sandra sighed. They'd been at the parties for hours, and apart from a brief interaction with Stanford Gaines all she had done was watch Jade eat. Which was understandable of course, as the boy was starved, but it didn't make for fun on her part. "Jaaaaade," she whined. "Let's go somewhere else. I'm bored." Jade stopped halfway through a mouthful of food and looked at her. "Where do you want to go?" he asked, ready to play the gentleman. Sandra looked around thoughtfully for a moment. "Let's take a walk in the garden," she replied carefully, wincing as Jade's face fell, unhappy at the prospect of leaving the delicious food. "I'm sure you can take a platter, though." The gaunt man grinned and picked up a small tray, loading it quickly with an assortment of delicacies, and took her arm. "Onward, my dear." ~~~ "This place is surprisingly beautiful," Jade said as the couple walked. "I mean, I'd not have expected anything like it." Sandra slapped his arm. "What do you mean you didn't expect anything like it? This is a mansion, Jade, Alice Longfellow's mansion, don't be daft." Jade shrugged. "I've never visited an estate before I have nothing on which to judge." Sandra hugged herself closer to him to escape the cold and sighed, exasperated by Jade's obliviousness. "Well now you know." They walked in silence for a time, both taking in the beautiful surroundings and trying to escape the awkward silence. Desperate, Jade latched onto what men for centuries had been using to escape such silences. "The stars are really beautiful tonight, aren't they?" Sandra half-smiled. "Yeah, they are," she said almost sadly as they rounded a corner. "You know, you're a nice guy Jade, despite the" She never finished her sentence however, as she had noticed who was sitting on the bench ahead of them. "Despite the what?" Sandra put her hand over her heart. "Sandra?" "Oh my God Jade, is that Stanford Gaines again?" Jade ceased his stargazing for a moment and sighed, the almost connection lost. "Yes, Sandra, I suppose it is." Sandra swooned. "Let's say hello!" "Haven't we already said hello?" "You can never say hello too many times to a movie star." Jade sighed, and soon found himself being dragged back into another awkward encounter with Stanford Gaines, with no escape route in sight.
