Easter/Passover Thread by Popular Demand!

Well this Saturday I'm taking my daughter to an Easter Egg hunt at church and it's supposed to be a nice day for it too- which is a rarity in Western New York. Easter SUnday I'm missing mass and will have to observe Passover at work and figure out how to have breakfast on my 7-noon shift. I should probably clarify- I work at an assisted living community with a 60% Jewish population and tonight is the first Seder. Passover lasts for 8 days and there can be no levened items or grains in the building- or this time near where the residents eat. So it's just tea for me Sunday morning unless I want some matza with jelly. -
I'm looking for people to practice taking people's blood. Not that I believe I'll have to learn to take blood that way next I just want to start poking people and not get into trouble!
The Nazareths have their own halls at schools now?? Interesting. The Nazareth are very set in their ways, having very strong opinions, some of which people might even consider to be wrong. After all, would it be right to force these ideologies into children? It seems like a very dangerous situation to me and believe you me, I'd know. So, just who are The Nazareth?? The Nazareth are first and foremost, the nine. Once men who succumbed to dark powers, they have been doomed to roam the Earth in limbo, creating an eery presence wherever their curious errands may take them. While they also have horses, that DOESN'T mean that everyone with a horse is a ring wraith!! This means that should you bump into anybody with a horse you should NOT (I repeat, NOT) necessarily attack them. The best way to deal with a ring wraith is actually to run away as fast as you can, potentially incorporating evasive forward rolls and cartwheels into your escape routine.
The Nazareth in question refers to Jesus of Nazareth, it was my elementary school/ middle school and run by the Sisters of Saint Joseph. There is (an all girls high school called Nazareth Academy which will be disolved June of this year due to low enrollment. I didn't know about the other Nazareth. :animesigh

I learned a vaulable lesson on Friday- no matter what your kid says, don't let her back on the tire swing after she's said she has an upset tummy. It was pretty nice out Friday so after work I took my daughter to a local playground and let her run around. Eventually she and some other kids decided to play on one of those tire swings that spins in circles. She played in it off and on- the last time before the upset tummy she was on it for about 20 minutes. After a while I decided we should get ready to go because of rush hour traffic and she'd said she wanted to get down because she didn't feel good. So fine, I took my daughter off the swing. She stood there for three minutes and decided she wanted to get back on. Okay fine, maybe she was okay again. Nope, five minutes later she wanted to get off because she didn't feel good again and she wanted to go home. She even wanted me to carry her out to the car which is very unlike her. So we get to the car and I get her in and ask if she wants to stop at McDonald's and get a Sprite to settle her tummy and she says yes. Well I get to the drive thru and lo and behold their soda machine isn't working. While I'm trying to tell the lady I'll just go to another McDonalds my daughter starts making odd noises in the back seat. I turn around and she's throwing up all over herself and her booster seat. The lady at the drive thru must've guessed what was going on because by the time I took my daughter in to get cleaned up there's a McDonald's Employee with a clean wash rag. I got my daughter cleaned up and gave her a water. She spent an hour watching tv in my room before deciding to come down and have some dinner. I'm just proud of myself for not throwing up.
For a few years now I have been observing St. Patricks Day, an odd occasion indeed - and one not much observed in forby times. Every year St. Patricks Eve I see the streets full to the brim of leprechauns - the sons of cobblers with a keen eye for fixing shoes, I see them getting merry on magic potions and dancing irish jigs into the dusk!! Now, yes we have relatives of the fairies causing mischief and drinking potions, with their magic green hats and pots of gold. That I know we can all agree, much makes sense. leprechauns bloody well love treasure for gods sake. It's the damn demographics that don't add up. These places often have less than 1% of cobblers yet the streets are rife with leprechauns. If they can't cobble shoes, then we all know that they'll soon get sick of guarding pots of gold at rainbows ( and one end of a rainbow often points into a dragons lair)
Hey you! Stay the hell away from my Guiness and my Irish coffee! A'fore I beat ye with me Shaleileigh.... when I figure out what it is and how to spell it properly.
I thought it was about the booze. I think some of the only people who realize what the Irish went through are the Irish themselves. I don't think we celebrate it as an apology to an entire group of people. I have sympathy for the Irish, but they weren't the only ones to go through bad things because of where they were from, so why should they have their own "We're sorry for how we treated you!" holiday? I don't mean to sound as rude as I think this seems, but I'm tired of every person I meet nowadays tossing their ancestors' sad tales at me.:animesigh
I meant it as to why some Irish celebrate it- not everyone else. But the whole oppressed thing- I got told by one of my residents at the Jewish assisted living home that the Jews and the Irish have a lot in common so Nya. But yeah- the day is also for some people- like my 1/8 Irish brother-in-law to go down to the coast and drink a case of Guiness and not get his butt whipped. At least not by other people. The Guiness though, I wish I could see what it does. Actually though, my ancestors weren't too bad off- my mama's great great grandma was paid passage over to America because she worked in some rich lady';s kitchen and they wanted her to get a better life. My other grandma's relatives came over from Alsaice Lorrain in the 1860's. I don't know about my grandfathers' families. In truth I think my papa had the worst time of it growing up in the depression.

I know this won't suprise too many people since I'm pretty random, but lately I've been listening to the Princess and the Frog soundtrack. It's actually pretty catchy- I have to think that mainly because my daughter won't let me listen to anything else. Well unless I pop Philadelphia Chicken into the CD player.

CaNz, why are there bugs in your restaurant?
because we leave doors open and they like it inside when our California weather decides it wants to change for once. i also saw one in the backroom once but i think it was from the truck... a surprising amount of food distributors are not checked... which doesn't make sense since both the restaurants and the food centers are thoroughly examined... a truck should be easy. but hey, we re wash all food and cook it at proper heats so its safe even if it was crawling with buggies... so if your ever in the neighborhood your welcome to stop by.
I may be living in California next year- which town and what's it called? Grey drizzly cold weather= great nap day. Oh and I'm having chili for dinner. It just seems strange to type that because my grandparents live in a town called Chili but it's actually pronounced phonetically

I'm 1/2 Irish and 1/2 First Nation (American Indian) I believe the reason that St. Patrick's day is so widely celebrated here in the states is because of how we (the Irish) were treated when we first came over to this country in the mid 1800's. Many Irish Americans' ancestors escaped from Ireland with nothing or close to it. They faced a lot of prejudices and adversity in their home country as well. Then when they came to the States they faced more prejudices because they spoke Gaelic or heavily accented English and many- especially from the southern part of the country- were Catholic which lead to more distrust. There were laws against the Irish and NINA signs which stood for No Irish Need Apply and signs that said Dogs and Irish not allowed. If you ever wonder why the stereotypical policeman or fireman is Irish it's because those were the only jobs many Irish men could find. I believe that today celebrating St Patrick's day isn't just about celebrating a saint- it's about celebrating Irish culture and heritage and our history and being proud to be Irish.
CaNz, why are there bugs in your restaurant? And CHW, stick with the electric flyswatter. Those things are beautiful! Especially if used on a particularly twitchy spider! *checks around for PETA*
I'm wondering that now myself. I mean is it just drain flies or what? And yeah Chibi #2 my dad is in love with his electric flyswatter. He got to use it last week in my daughter's room on a huge housefly. I'm just thinking that with the Boom Hower accent and wanting to put a Confederate flag on the lawn they'll need something less conspicuous than a giant bug zapper. Finally Rain + wind + Cold = One craptastic St Patrick's Day Parade.

Easter/Passover Thread by Popular Demand!
ChibiHorsewoman replied to chibi-master's topic in General Discussion
Ooh I get first post! LOL Yes I did ask Chibi #2 to post this. Anyways I don't have all my work stuff for April yet. I do know that the day after Easter I start my phlebotomy classes. As for Passover- I may be going to a Seder at my friend's house. She says that if I really wanted to learn about Passover her family's Seder really isn't the one to go to but it's better than nothing. Other than that I'm most likely just working the day before Passover begins (It starts at Sundown on the 29th of March and ends the 7th of April this year) I'm not Jewish though, I'm Catholic. I just came up with Passover because one of my jobs is working as an RA at a predominately Jewish Assisted Living community- so technically I celebrate the holiday indirectly. And this year the Rabbi told us we could bring in food as long as we kept it away from the kitchen and the resident's dining areas. But we also have some non Jewish residents.... Maybe I'll just nosh at the Catholic lady's apartment down on the first floor in building 6. -
Ok question: if one of your friends and her fiance are moving into a trailer in what your friend has described as the middle of nowhere, and your friend has already told you that her fiance (who honest to God sounds like Boom Hower from King of the Hill) wants to put a Stars and Bars flag up in their front yard... and he doesn't always get your sense of humor..... Uh is it appropriate to give the lucky couple an electric fly swatter as a housewarming gift? Or should I just stick with the hand towels from Target with the moose on them? Also: It's all about the Irish, deal with it Thank you.

Yay! A thread on primping. I haven't seen a good one in a few years. Gods yes I shower every other day. I have very oily hair and I can't bear to see how it looks the day after I shower, but washing it too much isn't good either. I just use shampoo and conditioner (I switched from Matrix Biolage to Redkin for my coloured hair and it works much better) on my hair. But I use this face wash from Sephora it costs 25$ but it lasts me 5 months since you only need one pump of it in your hands and it foams up real nice. Body wash- well that varies I like a selection and right now I switch between Tone and this lavender scented one by L'Occitane. The only issue I have with L'Occitaine is that it doesn't lather as well as Philosophy or the drug store brands. Other grooming- I go to an in home salon every six weeks to get my hair trimmed and coloured and to get my brow waxed. Getting other bits waxed only happens when there's other things going on. The eyebrow waxing, the hair cut and colour and my daughter's hair cut run me about 70$ every six weeks. The other waxing is about 50$ which is another reason why it's a sometimes thing. Shaving my legs doesn't happen as much during the winter as it does during the rest of the month and sometimes I use Veet for that instead. There's not much else though- like Knuckle's girl I'm a mom and I don't get my nails done. Sometimes my daughter and I paint our nails, but that's about the extent of it. I wear gloves for work and that won't ever change, so really why risk puncturing a glove for the sake of air brushing?
I already celebrated with a SHAMROCK SHAKE. That's all St Patrick's Day means to me, since I don't like drinking very often and I'm under the age limit. But now I'm really craving corned beef and cabbage...
I LOVE those things! I just had one this morning/afternoon I split it with my daughter. One of my cousins found an application on Facebook that will tell you which McDonald's resturaunts in your area are serving the shakes. So far I know of 3. Oh sweet minty goodness, how I love thee. Just not too much because I totally killed my knee running in the zoo.
Yay? :animeswea I admit I am always a little perplexed by the fascination that has developed around the day, more so those with absolutely no Irish connections (and no, your housemate's third cousin's ex-girlfriend's grandfather does not practically make you Irish) being so enthused by it.
EDIT! I cannot believe I skipped the first page last night: Gavin, you and I (Along with all of the Irish and up to 1/2 Irish people in this world) both know that the reason people are so obsessed with St. Patrick's day and being Irish is because there are only two types of people in this world and they are: The Irish and everyone else who wishes they were Irish. So I guess for one day we can allow their dreams to come true... you know out of benevolence and stuff.
One of my friends convinced me to call a psychic hotline for help with my screwed up dreams. Before I could even explain my reason for calling, the lady on the other line says that I'm unnaturally negative and that my family is cursed. She then suggested I pay $120 for a two day medetation period that is supposed to cure my family. I told her that for $120 my family could stay cursed.
First off you aren't unnaturally negative you are unaturally random. And a meditation period won't cure that. No matter how much the charge is. As for the curse... just get rid of those Cakesters from under the bed and toss them in the Niagra River and poof the curse is gone. My friend out in Troy and her fiance who is originally from east Texas are moving into a trailer on her aunt's land closer to the NY VT boarder. I love my friend and I've no issue with trailers, but there is just so much you can put in about that.
