THere was a boy in my school who would eat anything for money. My friend once paid him 50 cents to drink the cheddar cheese that they gave you to dunk the pretzels in. I don't know if that's just weird or if that's gross Our school had this weird honor system where if you got a good report card they gave you a ticket to wear civvies instead of the uniform and this one girl came in wearing pumps with straight legged hi water jeans. But I think that was more of a cry for fashion intervention than weird. She was even wearing white socks! -
Originally posted by Artemis It's amazing how similar abortion is to The Holocaust. (Okay, I'll stop there before I start a huge argument over a taboo topic... ) ~art~
I believe it was Thomas Paine who said-'I may not like what you have to say, but I'll let you say it.' If not, I know my U.S. History teacher said it. So in reguards to that quote I would like to say: I fail to see the simularities between the Holocaust and abortion, but if you or anyone else would like to state their reasonings to this opinion, I'm more than willing to listen to them. As for the argument about a taboo subject-I once started a topic about asking people if they were pro-life or pro-choice. I don't see how abortion is such a taboo anymore. As for me, I really do fail to see the simularities between abortion and the Holocaust because what the Nazis were doing is classified as genocide. I don't believe a woman going to a clinic is necessarily trying to kill off an entire race of people. She just feels that she made a mistake and this is her way of correcting it. Okay, yes, that sounded wrong allow me to rephrase this. Maybe the woman will die during labor along with the baby and her doctor feels that this is in her best interest. Perhaps she has too many children already that she can't take care of and yet she doesn't feel it's right to put this child up for adoption. Or maybe she's just not strong enough to put the child up for adoption-altho in my opinion I feel that abortion should be used as an absolute last resort since there are so many couples looking to adopt. Or maybe the child will be born with serious birth defects and the woman doesn't feel it's right to have a child go through life like that. In my humble opinion I feel that this is much different than a group of people killing off other groups of people because the one group feels that they are the master race. I highly doubt a pregnant woman is feeling highly superior to her unborn child. So yes, I am pro choice-which is a huge case of irony since I'm adopoted. But I don't feel that it is in the government's best interest to tell a woman what she may and may not do with her body.

Who likes Nirvana? And Tell Me What Happened to Kurt Cobain...?
ChibiHorsewoman replied to a topic in Noosphere
Originally posted by The_Ghost Francis Bean is the child of Cortney Love and Kurt Cobain. I wonder what happened to her... :p
I know this is completely off topic, but who would name their kid Francis Bean? Isn't that some kind of cruelty to children? She's probably 10 or 11 right now and working with her own set of lawyers to get her name changed. Back to topic. I've listened to Nirvana, but I can bearly understand their music since Kurt sang like he had marbles in his mouth. Also, my husband's best friend swears that Courtney got someone to kill Kurt. You know, one of those conspiracy theories. What I really love now is all that publicity about Courtney and Nirvana and the rights to the lyrics. Can anyone give some insight into that topic? -
Originally posted by SpikeSpiegel Record companies will sign any monkey with a crew an tatoos all over there body.
You may want to choose your euthamisms with more care since some people could be offended by the term-monkey. Okay, back to fiddy, or fifty or whatever. I don't listen to rap music unless it's forced on me. Most of my friends don't really listen to rap either, but from what I can -the guy has no musical talent except for singing about getting shot and wearing a flak vest (hey, you say it your way, I say it mine). I think 50 does it to get attention. Don't worry, by this summer, he'll be knocked out by some rapper name $1.50 who'll sing about tanks and such going 'round his hood. In closing: Hell, a few miltary personel could also sing about wearing a bullet proof vest and a bullet proof hat. Then they could add something about NVGs and gas masks. I might actually buy that album.

When I was in high school-okay junior high and high school-I wanted nothing more than to drop gym class. I really didn't see the point of running around so you could show just how uncoordinated you are. I tripped enough in the hallways-I fell down the stairs once going to lunch. I really didn't think that my peers needed any more light into the fact that I was a klutz. Unfortunately, it's a required course and you can't drop it. The only time I had any fun in the class tho was floor hockey and the folk dance unit, butthat's only because i was intimidating in floor hockey and I didn't have to change for folk dance. As for Latin, I never took it. My school offered the course, but I took French instead-which I can't remember. I know people who say that the most useful thing they learned in Latin was how to say that you kiss a donkey's butt. I don't know how useful that really is, but if you consider that an important skill-more power to ya!
Originally posted by Nate I don't think we're dissing Bush. I'm just asking the old Elementary school question about what woudl you do? This isn't a let's beat up on Bush topic-those have been done to death so let's not beat a dead horse *looks @ her screen name* Uh, no pun intended. I would definately not ban hockey, but I might band cheerleading. Atleast wrestling cheerleading and soccer (football) cheerleaders because I think that's one of the dumbest things in the world. After that-I'd make child molestation and rape punishable by death. But hey, that's just me. -
I know that this is the group who did the Daria Theme Song A.k.a. Excuse me. And I really like the song. Especially the part about: Nothing is like I planned it So funny I can't stand it Wish I was in a panic I must be on another Planet So I'm curious if anyone had even heard of the band or even knew that they sang this one song. Or maybe if they had a cd out or something-anything.

Do you guys remember in elementary school when your teacher would assign strange topics like 'What if you could talk to the animals?' or 'What if you were president?' Well, if not, you're elementary school was out of the ordinary. Anyway, there's all this talk on the board about elections and the state of the union address. So, now I'm wondering, what would you do if you were president-or in some cases-Prime Minister (That is the same right?) As for myself I'd repeal the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy thet the United States MIlitary has. For those of you who don't know, this policy states that you may be gay and be in the miliatry, but if anyone finds out-you're out. Yes, you get and honorable discharge, but you're out of the military. I think this is one of the dumbest policies the military has-right up there with the rule about missionary position only. This is why I would get rid of the rule. Of course, I'd have to get the Senate to apporve the bill, but I can be persuasive. After that I'd allow same sex marriages for the same reason I'd repeal the Don't Ask DOn't Tell Policy. I mean, you'd have to figure that you couldn't have one removed and keep the other up there. I'd also try to improve education, but I'm not quite sure how I'd do that. You need some kinds of standardized testing, but you'd also need to have tests for children who learn differently-which adds up to a lot of hard work-but more teahcers which could mean more jobs. But don't rush me in this, because I'm not running for office. Edit: After further consideration I've also decided that the partiot act needs to be repealed due to the fact that I feel it violates the part in the constitution which guarantees all US citizens due process. (whatever that means) And it seems rather barbaric as well. So, what would you do? And remember, play nice
Originally posted by cloricus ...And sending fellow country men off to fight, die and kill other people and civilians isn't? Wow I knew his religion had changed a bit since it split off from the church but I didn't think it was that much!
Yes, but they did that before in the crusades, so I guess if you're fighting a 'holy war' it's okay to send men and women off to fight for someting which makes no sense. However, getting into the who idea of civilian causalties-I hate to sound cold hearted, but they're doing guerilla warfare and inmilitary tactics in populated ares. The same as when we fought world wars one and two. Yes, it's sad that we really can't do much to protect civilians against warfare, but on the same level, there are civilians going after military men and women with home made bombs and such so not all of these civilians are innocent.
Originally posted by cloricus He bases most things on his religion from what I?ve seen; I'm personally of the opinion that religion has no place in the decisions of a nation that at a least pretends it accepts all people as "equals" because it puts a block on freedom of religion and everything else is restricted to a fundamentalists "closed" views.
I agree on that remark. When Bush was govenor of Texas the Military had just passed a law making paganism a recognized religion in their chaplin handbooks. He's quoted as saying 'I hope that the military recognizes their mistake and repeals this descision'. Yes, this sure sounds like the type of person I want governing over all the ideals of this country. He talks about the military recognizing a non Judeo-Christian religion as a mistake and he's supossed to be upholding al amendments including freedom of religion? Feh. As for the comments about upholding familiy vaules, shouldn't he forgo talking about same sex marriages and recognizing their unions and perhaps check his daughters into the Betty Ford Clinic? Okay, maybe that was a bit off topic and I do appologize. But maybe instead he should try to talk about the deficite, or the environment instead imposing his beliefs on the private lives of citizens and soldiers alike.

Well, I'm going to vote in the November elections, just like I did four years ago. I'm going to step into that booth in All Saints Gym and vote for whomever I think would do the best job. I don't do it because it's a right or a privledge. ANd after what happened in 2000 I don't really vote becuase I think it'll make a difference. I just vote so if I don't like the president I can legitamately complain about him because I participated. I'm not just going to be one of those people who does nothing but complains anyway-oh hell no, I'm gonna be one of those people who does something then complains anyway.

Whew boy. Well, if I was still in high school I definately know which class I'd want to drop-Religion. I went to a Private Catholic School and it was one of the required courses. Needless to say we never learned about any other religions but Christianity which is a real shame because I thought that was the whole point of religion class to learn about other eligions besides your own. So the whole course was really boring except when a friend of mine asked if Jesus could be a bastard since God and Mary weren't married. Of course I also wanted to drop chemistry, but that was because I really sucked at it. I even considered dropping Environmental CHemistry in College, but that was one of the required courses for my major so that was a bit out of the question-Damn!

My school was pretty old, but we never went without power. However, once we lost heat because the furnace or something exploded and since it was the middle of winter everyone was sent home which was pretty cool. My mom couldn't come pick me up (9th grade) so I walked home with a friend of mine to her house and we hung out there.

I don't know why, but names in general have always interested me. It was either because I'm a writer, or I had too many Barbie dolls and I didn't want to call any of them Barbie. Nor did I want to call my Ken dolls Ken. Actually, Ken had issues and was named: David Joe Brett Adam Jason Lime Mike and Chris As for names of people I've known whose names I find interesting: Xuan Xuyen Yachica (pronounced Ya-shee-KAH) Kiko (a boy in my art class) LaShandra LaShay Lincoln (big surprise there) Orlando Joel (pronounced Joe Ell) Pandora-(a very distant 2nd cousin) Kendall Lacey LeeAnne Ladoris. My friend Tommee likes to dress in drag some times and he's told me if he ever does it professionaly he wants to be called Autumn Reign. Go figure. I'm just going to stop here for now

For people that are and/or still in school.
ChibiHorsewoman replied to Ryoko T.D.C.'s topic in General Discussion
There were too many people in uniforms at my high school to figure out who was the weird one there. As for college, there was a kid who would always instigate snowball fights when we were out in the wood lot. I was majoring in Conservation at FLCC and as part of our class for intro to soils and waters and the Envoronmental chemistry class we had to go outside to the trails they called the woodlot and there was a boy who would always start snowball fights instead of trying to learn about soil Ph and catergorizing trees by bark. There was also a boy in my English class then my intro to Literature class in college who kept throwing money on my desk for some odd reason. I think I either went out with him once or beat him up-I forget. But I pretty much had classes with a bunch of pot heads who thought I was weird because I knew so much. As for out of school, there's a lady down the street from me who walks around the neighborhood talking to herself. Also, my friend Tommee's roommate meets up with guys on phone chats and has relationships with all of them. Of course, she's not good looking, but neither are the guys she finds. Of course, now I don't know if that's weird or sick. -
Damn, I always miss the good ones! Anyways, back to the actual topic. Evil is as evil does from my perspective and I feel there has to be evil in this world because if there wasn't evil, how would we know what good is? Think about it, if there was no evil how would you know right from wrong? Good from bad. There has to be dark in order for there to be light. We have one thing to balance out another. On the subject of defining evil, I don't feel that I'm in a position to do so. Saying that, I don't feel anyone of us is in that position to define exactly what evil is. Hell, the IRS (for the US ppl) probably thinks that cheating on your taxes is evil. However that is definately not on the same level as taking an infant and smashing its head against a wall to kill it or hanging your neighbor's cat then setting it on fire. But some critics may call those behavoirs signs of mental distrubance. Taking that into consideration, I think I'll jump on the Hitler debate band wagon. Hitler was a disturbed individual, (for that matter so was Joseph Stalin and the Armanian horseshoe guy (if anyone knows what his name is, please tell me.)). In this day and age, if someone had shown Hitler's signs of mental instability that person would be put away, sent for counceling and given mass quantities of prozak and other anti-depression drugs. Unfortunately, they didn't do those sort of things in the 1920's and Germany made Hitler their dictator. Doing so set off the lovely arguement that historinas have dubbed world war two. I notice that people have been replying to this topic by using religion. Okay, I'll add my two cents into this area as well. One of the main rules in Wicca is And it harm none, do what ye will. Simply put, this means, as long as you don't hurt anyone you can do what you want, but you should also be willing to take responsibility for your actions. That means that if you kill someone, you can't go and say-Satan made me do it. This is mostly because Wiccans don't believe in Satan therefore he cannot make us do bad things. You make yourself do bad things just as much as you make yourself do good things. There is no evil entity controlling your mind, nor is there one controlling someone else's mind. People make their own descisions to do wrong or right and they should take responsibility for those actions. There really is no forgiveness for your 'sins', you simply admit that you didn wrong and accept the consequences for your actions-which is really fun when the Rule of three comes into play. In closing I'd like to state that in real life you can't always separate good from evil. There is no evil fairy-like in Sleeping Beauty-seeking revenge for someone's parents not inviting her to a party. There is only human nature which is both good and evil at the same time.

After reading this I've realized two things: 1.)I'm glad that my religion-old tho it may be-is not mainstream. If it was, Yule/ Winter Solstice would be about giving presents instead of celebrating with others close to you, celebrating the re-birth of the Sun God and celebrating the days getting longer. Heck, for Solstice my husband, Tommee and I went to an open circle ritual and participated in raising energy and a grab bag gift. 2. You people also seem to forget that not every branch of Christianity celebrate Christmas on December 25th. Eastern Orthodox Christians only just celebrated their CHristmas, and my best friend's denomination doesn't celebrate Christmas until April. Also, to stay somewhat on the subject of Yule and the Western Christian Tradition of Celebrating Christmas at the end of December I Feel I should mention that the two are somewhat related. What I mean is that when the early Western Christians were trying to convert pagans to Christianity they found it easy to place holidays that the Church celebrated close to pagan holidays. Yule/Winter Solstice is a perfect example of that because we celebrate the birth of the sun God and Christians celebrate the birth of Christ (great guy BTW, when I was Catholic, he helped me) a few days later. Early Christians just found it easier to say well, you're celebrating a few days early and for the wrong guy than try to explain that Jesus may not have been born until Spring-which would've given MAry a very long gestration period. I'm sorry if this offended anyone, but it is widely accepted truth. As for greed. Well, that tends to happen in a materialistic society. Everyobody wants something once in a while-even poor children want things. Give me a break tho, it's almost 1AM and I'm having trouble completing thoughts. I'll come back to this later!
