1.
Originally posted by DeathBug The "the student isn't challenged" myth; I actually find this funny. what you are saying is that the student could easily do well in the class, s/he just doesn't. S/he isn't "challeneged"; this smacks of a complete and total refusal of responsibility for yoyr grades and your future. If you're not in a situation where you can be "challeneged", and you're bored in class because you know everything, my God, you have absolutely no excuse for not passing! You say as much yourself; "I'm not being challenged; this is too easy." If it's too easy, why aren't you passing? So it's boring; suck it up. It's simple logic; if you pass your classes with ease, you'll be noticed, and increase your odds of being placed in a class where you're "challenged". you have no excuse not to do outstandingly well if your excuse is that you're "not challenged".
AN example of why a student may not do as well:I was placed in special education for one school year then they kept placing me in there up to my senior year of high school. I was too smart in those classes and all the other students hated me for that. A case like this can make a child refuse to learn any more so their peers would like them more. I didn't, but there is that possibility. My husband attended a city high school before he dropped out (he attened Rancocca's Valley Regional High School in New Jersey prior to moving back to NY, but that's irrelevent) He was placed in 11th grade classes as a senior and slept thru most of the classes. Ok, he's actually a bad example. But he did get his GED and join the Army. Maybe if the school had placed him in the right grade he would've graduated-and maybe if Hitler had been hugged more as a child he wouldn't have started WW2. My point is that sometimes a student's reaction to a lack of stimulous is refusal to do work at all. Even if that work is easier than what the student is capable of.
So you'll have to go in to a daily string of monotony; welcome to the real world. You think that sucks, wait 'till you get a job.
I've had quite a few jobs, starting in my junior year of high school. As many people know, I'm married, you want monotany, try looking for a job in central TX for a year.
The problem with the world today is that no one wants to take responsibility for themselves. Speaking of which... The other great myth of education, what can be called the Bad Student's Mantra: "The teacher failed me." Right, so I'm guessing the fact that you don't know the subject matter has nothing to do with it? The teacher doesn't "fail" you; you failed! If it was English, maybe you failed because you're using the word "failed" incorrectly....
This is a bit of a contradiction on your part since in one paragraph you blame the teachers and the next you blame the students. Either make up your mind or blame it on the schoolboard. Or maybe the planner. Or standardized tests. My brother was a good student, but choked at any essay question and some multiple choice due to a reading dissability. So I'd go with the standardized tests myself. So yes, you should take responsibility for your actions. For example I'm tired of parents always wondering why their children have turned into spoiled brats. Perhaps they should look to how they raised their children.
And what's wrong with writing essays in gym class? I did.
I'm in a rather goofy mood right now so I'll respond to this- I graduated in 99, the last of the New York state High school graduates who didn't need a regnets diploma to graduate. I never had to write an essay for gym class-altho I once had to take a test on volleyball. However, I can just guess how a paper about volleyball would go: we just finished the volleyball unit in gym class phase3. Volleyball originated in 33BCE where Egyptions.... I'm just going to stop now because this is too silly. Gym may serve some purpose-altho whether it's finding out just how uncoordinated you are or getting excersize and being graded on it is up to other people to decide. But people, I had to take aerobics in gym class. I broke my ankle doing that!
 2.
Originally posted by Heaven's Cloud Well, at the same time you have to consider that inner city public schools don?t pay there teachers enough to get by on half the time, so you are going to get a mixture of great teachers that teach because they enjoy it and teachers that are horrible but cannot be fired because they school cannot find replacements (that was a pointless tangent :)).
HC, while that is a valid point about Inner city school teachers, I think I should point out that teachers in many of the suburban school districts are under paid as well. I went to a private school and some of the teachers had to take on extra jobs in order to pay bills. Everyone is always so quick to point out how bad the inner city schools are. And that is true, John Marshall HS where my husband attended school prior to dropping out has a high drop out rate, much higher than either my HS or my brother's. Maybe if the schools had more funding they could encourage more students to want to learn and stay in school. I had a point somewhere, but I forgot it, so I'll say this. Purhaps Bush should forget about the Moon, Mars and WMDs and try to raise teacher's pay. As for curriculem. That's a really screwed up peice of work. My 12 year old cousin is comming over tonight because his social studies teacher wants his class to do a project using Word Point or some really out there word program. Not only is it not user friendly, but doesn't need to be used by everyone. Never the less, the state decided that this was part of the curriculem (which I can't spell, but am to lazy to look up) Well, there's my $.02. have fun!
 3. I'm a bit jaded so don't mind me. I went to college for one year and wasn't too impressed with it. College really isn't for everyone so don't let people tell you you have to go or you'll be stuck flipping burgers for the rest of your life-or pumping gas. After all, you can go top college and still pump gas and flip burgers. My best friend's ex-boyfriend graduated from RIT and he hasn't gotten a job yet. On the other hand, my other friend's husband was in the military for 10 years and now gets paid 21 dollars an hour to fix air planes. As for what I did after college-well, I worked full time, I made decent money and then I met Lincoln and got married. I moved to Texas babysat and then moved back home recently. And I'm a cliche college drop out right now, I work at McDonalds. My husband is a high school drop out, he's in the Army, going to Iraq and going into either communications or taking the entrance exam to be a NYS Trooper. Well, okay, now that you know that about me, you can point and laugh and ask me if I want fries with that.

 5.
Originally posted by wiccansamurai IThe only good thing about Chibi-Usa is Black Lady. Now she's cool. My favorite villain of all time, thoguh, is Prince Diamond! *Fangirl smile* He's so cool! And in love with Sailor Moon!
I felt sorry for Demando in SMR as well as Emeruade. Those two really should've gotten together-in the anime atleast. As for the live action show. I saw little clips of it and screen shots. This seems like a really cool show I hope they bring it over to the America's so people over here can watch it. I also hope they don't do too horryfiying of a job with the voice dubbing Maybe they should get the people who did the dubbing for Crouching Tiger HIdden Dragon. The only scary parts in the live action are:
Luna isn't a real kitty this time. Now she's a stuffed cat owned by Usagi. But she still talks and Usagi talks to her and the rest of the senshi do too.Zoisite has siver hair and Nephrite's hair looks like it was done by Ronald McDonald. also, the bows on the fuku are HUGE!
Interesting part
the senshi all have black hair until they transform and the guy who plays mamoru is kinda cute.
I haven't watched Sailor Moon in a while tho. I lost the dub tapes I had and all my DVDs with the S and SuperS seasons are in storage in TX. I do plan on getting both box sets tho. It's called Birthday presents from my husband in Iraq. Look, links to sites with Live action Sailor Moon info! 6. Not much to say in this topic except- I was watching Mr.Deeds on HBOc last night and it got me thinking-does anyone besides me watch the movies and does anyone have a favorite Adam SAndler movie? Little Nicky is pretty cool for me. The whole Good is more powerful than evil message was nice. but the best scene was the beginning when
the devil is shoving a large pineapple up Adolf Hitler's behind and Hitler is dressed in a French Maid Costume
Of course, I'm a sick twisted individual so that more or less fits my mind set. Anyone else?
 7. Yes, I watched it. No, I really don't want to admit to watching it. I did like how they had to change Soviet Union to former SOviet Union, but why not just say Russia? It's all inclusive. I wonder why the ppl ended up with teh rings tho, and why those rings? Did it have something to do with their astrological signs? (ok with the exception of the South American kid) Or was it deeper? Looking back I seem to think those rings would do wonders for calling the quarters. Samurai knows what I mean. Okay, now that I've said what I came to say, you will all forget that I watched Captain Planet
 8.
Originally posted by DeathBug Most military towns don't suck; I should know...
I lived in Killeen,TX (Ft.Hood) North of Austin for over a year and I've been to Watertown, NY (FT. Drum) and Kent,WA (Ft.Lewis) as well, I'm sure I can tell if a military town generally sucks or not. Ft.Lewis's selling point is Seattle atleast and Nellis AFB (yeah, I said carson before, and I'll fix that!) is Las Vegas which i said before doesn't count because Las Vegas doesn't need the Air Force to survuve just like Seattle doesn't need Lewis to sustain it's job force. I don't know about Ft.Carson since I've never been to CO, but I've seen a map of the area and there aren't a heck of a lot of cities. Same with Ft. Huachucka (or however you spell the place in AZ) Ft.Gordon doesn't count because it's located in Augusta,GA which is a decent sized city-even if the airport only has two gates out in the open. Of course, maybe it's just the fact that Killeen and Watertown are so small. I'm from Rochester, NY just like Krippled! That's right, Represent!
 9. A classical comic quote from InuYasha is- $#!t, This smells like blood and ink! Don't ask me why, it's just that his face is priceless! A sincere quote that I like is from Princess Mononoke where Prince Ashitaru says-I wish to see the world with eyes unclouded by hate. This is after he gets that strange disease and stuff. A good quote from a one-shot character is from Silvia Noventa (Gundam Wing) You're such a coward, It's obvious you just want to take the easy way out! This is said to Hiiro. But the strangest anime quote is from Happosai from Ranma 1/2. A brassier! A brassier! Is one of his lines from the 2nd movie. edit-Okay, so technically this isn't from an anime, but X-Men Evolution was really cool so here's one from Night Crawler: Bumpity bumpity bumpity bumpity SPLAT! Too high and too fast. I forgot where it was from and who he was talking too, but my friend said it after she fell from her horse today and I liked it!
 10. I have two stories, one makes sense, the other is just very disturbing. 1. I wrote an English paper on anime and manga influencing people by showing them what people in other countries watch on TV. That was in 12th grade and I got a B. 2.My lab partner and I finished dissecting our grasshopper and earthworm in biology and she had sketched them into her notebook. I finished with the notes and she began sketching the dissection of ChibiUsa. I took pretty good notes on that one too. We got an A in lab for our disections of the earthworm and grasshopper. But we got detention from the chibiusa disection-I guess we shouldn't have turned that one in
 11. This legislation has already passed, why do you think we're talking about it now? The no child left behind act is a poor attempt to boost the grades of bellow average students. Some kids are just too damn stubborn to want to learn. Others just aren't motivated because they don't find the curriculum to be challenging enough but since they aren't doing anything to bring their grades up, the teacher isn't going to move them up a grade. Then there's this lovely gray area for students with learning disabilities who are in special ed classes. In New York state every student who graduated in the year 2000 and after had to earn a regents diplome in order to graduate from high school. (I'm using this as an example since I live in NY) O.k. this isn't hard for the kids who get the honor roll and are in the mainstream classes where subjects are taught at a fast pace, but what about the students in special ed classes? There is no way most of them could pass the regents exams required for graduation. I should know, they put me in special ed when I was a freshman and it was too easy. That's why they moved me to mainstream classes. Anyway, back to my story. From 2000 to 2002 (I don't know about 2003 because I was in TX) atleast five exams have had to be re-taken and graded on a lower curve in order to pass the students. In 2001 a chemistry test in one of the suburban school districts had to be redone because the test had nothing to do with what the students had learned during the school year. This is part of the No Child Left Behind Act. Please, my 12 year old cousin has to write essays for gym class thanks to this dumb law. This is an excersise in stupidity, thank you G.W. Bush.
 12. I live in the igloo that i just built in my backyard! Heh, Western New York, approximately 6 hours from Manhattan, so no I didn't see the ball drop! I'm a native New Yorker, but I lived in TX until NOV! Ft.Hood/Killeen really really sucks. Most miliatary towns do. The fact that Ft. Carson is situated outside of Las Vegas doesn't count! Anyways, I have to go insulate my igloo! Byee!
 13. This is going to sound like a really dumb question, but are your parents originally from the southern United States? I know, dumb question, but hear me out. There was this saying about the southern gentleman which seems to fit your father-iron fist in a velvet glove. One of my friends from OK has a father like that, but there's no velvet glove. His mother just went along with whatever his dad said. Is your mom like that? Okay, new subject in this reply: Do you have any friends you could move in with? That's what a few of my friends have ended up doing in that situation. My husband actually lived with his aunt, his older brother some ppl in VA, and a baptist preacher (not at the same time mind you) while he was growing up. Hell, his dad went into re-hab and for one reason or another his mom thought she didn't have to work so was going to make him live on the street with her and one of his aunts took him in. He had his own place by the time he was 17. I've never really had too much of a problem with my parents until my dad went all control freak a few weeks ago and tried to get involved in my marriage. My mom's not too thrilled with the fact that I've decided to convert to Wicca and not go to church, but I'm slowly changing that-hell, by July she may actally read The Complete Idiot's Guide to Witchcraft and Wicca. My brother is another story-My dad absolutely hates him-the feeling's mutual but I think they may be comming around. My grandma once told my mom that he needed an exocist-at the age of 3! So maybe you should try to move in with someone if that is an option-or tough it out for 3 more years and have your father sign an early release form so you can join the military at 17. You said he's an ex-Marine, so he'd probably do that.
 14. Well, my hair is cherry red at the moment. It was only supossed to be dark red. I've had my hair turn dark brown instead of red from a brand of hair dye with Hydriance in the name. Never had any bad high lighting experiances, unless you count the time my husband helped out and declared that he'd rather munch on his-but that's another story all together. However, if you want a hair dye horror story: My mom once tried to hilight my brother's dark blond hair with lighter blond streaks. Instead she gave him large orange patches. but just the same-here's my currant hair color, was this a disastor?
 15. I don't go to college right now, but I'm considering going back in September (I've been out for four years) When I did attend I went to Finger Lakes Community College since it was close to home so I could go home on weekends and wasn't in the complete booneys. My other choices were SUNY (FYI that's State University of New York) Morrissville which is a bit South East of Syracuse and pretty much in east podunk and a three hour drive from where i live. Or SUNY Alfred which is an hour drive back and forth. I was excepted to both SUNY schools, but was only 18 and not ready to be too far from home. My best friend goes to Monroe Community College and her ex goes to RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) A cousin of mine goes to Fredonia and another cousin graduated from another SUNY school. And my brother-in-law graduated from St.John Fisher. I hope this helped-or was atleast enlightening. Oh hell, it took up space and answered a question.
 16. My cousin Erin got bored CHristmas Eve and gave everyone nicknames from the last part of their names. She's Rin, I'm Gan (like the rat in The Adventures of the Mini Godesses) Lincoln is now Oln and her brother is Dam. I won't even go there with what everyone else got.
 17. I have one word for you: CARPOOL. See if your friend's parents will drive you to school, or maybe suck it up and take the bus. Yes, I'm a bit blunt, but atleast I didn't tell you to walk. BTW-I thought hardship refered to the type of leave the military gives out when you have a death or a problem in the family.
 18. My New Years Eve was a bit out of the ordinary. I enjoyed it a lot tho because Lincoln was up here for it. Read and you'll see why it was odd, but long. We drove around for a bit then went to pick up our friend Tommee (this is how he's spelling his name this month, so deal) We hung out at his place until we were all tempted to turn his roommate's son into a sacrifice then drove out to LeRoy to pick up our other friend, Barb, then drove back to our town. We stopped at Wal-Mart for a few things, Tommee checked out one of the guys by the bakery then we went and stood in this insanely long line. The 4 of us got bored, I kissed Barb and we did the Electric slide and the Macarena until we got up to the check out lady. Went home, made spegghetti and Meat balls and talked about how our coven was going to go and about the ritual for the night. We couldn't get drunk because we had our first ritual, but we got goofy anyway. 11:45 we went upstairs, Lincoln cast the circle and we had ritual until about 12:45. So we missed the ball drop, but then we did tarot. 2:30 we drove everyone home then went to bed. Well, I hope you enjoyed trhat extra special glimps into my life.
 19. I think it's sweet as well. Probably because my relationship with my husband is so strange (long distance sucks!) I like the whole idea of a guy pulling out my chair so I can sit down or holding the door open for me. Of course, the door thing is also a bit of common curtousey which I can't spell right now. I also have to admit that if my husband started doing some of that stuff I'd ask if he hit himself in teh head with his kevlar helmet instead of just sleeping on it like a good little soldier. But that's just me. I just realized what I did, ya'll can close this! I am 99% sure you meant to post this in here rather than making a new thread, so here you go heh. - Semjaza
 20. Well, as of tonight I have two new nicknames thanks to my new job. The first one is Erin. I don't know why, but after being introduced to me, and me telling the woman my name-the supervisor not only called me Erin when telling me to put on some plastic gloves, but she also introduced me to my co-workers as Erin. Why is that bad? My name is MEGAN! The second one has to do with my initials-MDC. One of the ladies changed it to DMC and started calling me that for the rest of the night. Go figure *shrugs*
 21.
Originally posted by Drix D'Zanth I'm not really a fan of tatooing, but sometimes it's fun to look at other people's art. Considering the fact that ink is the 2nd leading cause of Skin Cancer (nice...), I cringe to see some people with their entire upper torsos covered in tatoos. Tatoos on females, if excessive, is a turn off. I don't really have anything against it, just don't get cancer. I think people should try to develop a less carcinogenic substance. Ink is metallic and very very chemically imbalanced. Hell, the fact your body can't purge it is probably not a good sign (It can't purge mercury or lead either :D )...
Great, now I have this insane urge to chop off my mother-in-law's arms. She has 7 tattoos on both of them. Tattooing is safe as long as you go to a sanitary place to get them done. That said here's a picture of my brother's tattoo.
 22. Like I said, I turned 18 a while ago. KNow what I did when I turned 18? I had my graduation party. Oh, and I bought a lotto ticket and lost. Turning 21 is better (atleast in the states, in Korea you can drink when you're 20 and Canada it's 19) because you can legally buy alcohal. Of course, in TX, you can get a drink in a bar as long as you're with your spouse, you have your marriage liscence, and your spouse is 21 or older. That and the speed limit are the only good things about TX and I didn't need that law because I turned 21 2 months before I got married. Ooh, married, that's another thing you can do when you're 18 in all 50 states. In WV you only have to be 16 and in most states that's also the age of consent. Of course in hawaii, it's 15, butr that's another story. You can also vote and get drafted in the states. So if you're a dude, you have to sign the draft paper thingy. I don't know what it's called since I'm not a dude. Basically, 18 is nothing. Hell, you're not even considered an actual adult until you're 26 or so because that;s when your insurance premiums go down So with that said, wait a few more years and announce the big 2-1
 23. Life means that no matter how bad you feel, you can still get some pleasure by annoying the crap out of someone who hates you. Okay, maybe that was a bit off, but I'm hyper because I get to see my husband in a few hours and I haven't seen him in over a month! Life means that you still have a ways to go before you get stupid because you're always learning something. Mind you, there are different degrees of stupidity, but some people have further to go than others. There's no clear definition of what life is. But what life means to me is I can still wake up, hop out of bed, and slide down the railing!
 24. Well, I know my first kiss was when I was 8 and on a dare. I also know I'm responsible for my best friend's first kiss because I dared her to do it. Now, too bad this isn't a more grown up board because then we could ask....*ChibiHorsewoman is dragged off by censors* My question is do you still remember who kissed you first or do you really give a rat's behind? Me, I don't care, I don't even know what happened to the guy after he graduated from high school.
 25.
Originally posted by lea2385 In school, kids would always harrass me about my religion and other stuff..... What can I say? People are cruel no matter what. Sometimes people outgrow childish tendancies, but other times they never outgrow it. Which is sad. I got picked on for my weight and when I dyed my hair strange colors. But I didn't really care too much about it because those kids don't know you, they just know who they think you are. I'm not gonna lie, it pissed me off a few times and I got a few detentions and a suspension for fighting because some girl wouldn't lay off me, but hey. Violence is everywhere and hate is everywhere. Maybe the point isn't to look at it, but to figure out why people still hate.
