I had to do a debate on this for P.I.G. class my senior year. Understand, my senior year was five years ago. You have to describe both the pros and cons of the situation and get people to agree with your side of the aguement. So here's my position. I don't expect you to agree with me, just read and review. Pros: There is a problem with prisons being over crowded. This process of capital punishment will lessen the people in prison on death-row. Also, there is the cost of keeping the prisoner incarcerated and alive. You aren't allowed to starve the person, you must feed them. Also they must be clothed and given a place to stay. This includes the prisoners who are serving back to back life sentances with no chance of parol. The costs add up from year to year. Cons: It shouldn't be up to people to decide who lives and who dies. What if the person was wrongly accused and executed anyway? Wouldn't the executioner be just as guilty as the actual perpetrator? Most of my paper is missing so I can't do the rest of it. Also this was a joint project.

Anime Dubbed voices too overused?
ChibiHorsewoman replied to Rhys Mayiessen's topic in Otaku Central
Originally posted by Solo Tremaine Mind you, it's not just the dubs- I noticed looking through the extras on one of the BGCT2040 DVDs that the Japanese voice actors were in all sorts of other series: Gundam, Escaflowne... the Japanese might be thinking the same thing, but it's harder for us to differentiate between different voices from other cultures because we're not accustomed to how they speak.
I don't know about you but I have a sneaking suspicion that the Seiyuu for Artemis in SailorMoon also does Xellos' voice in Slayers Try. And I mean the original. Also, as I've said before: Keiko Han did the voice of Luna and Queen Beryl and Kae Araki did the voice of ChibiUsa, SailorMoon.Usagi and Yuki Miaka. -
It really depends on how something's been dubbed. Like Sailor Moon, please please please give me the Sub, I'll be your friend for life and give you a cookie! That's the kind of dubbing I just don't want to see. Other ones, like Tenchi, Gundam Wing and Revolutionary Girl Utena, I don't really care. InuYasha is a bit up in the air since I've seen both the dub and the sub. Honestly, Kohaku's NA dub voice scares me (not as much as Terri Hawke's Serena voice, but still) Where as Sesshy's voice makes me melt either way. So I could take either or since they're both almost alike. Even if InuYasha is a bit more polite in the sub. Gundam Wing is an exceptional dub because they kept the story line completely the same. Fansubs and fandubs are another thing you have to take into consideration. I saw a Korean to English fansub of InuYasha once. THey called him (InuYasha) a goblin. *dies* Okay, what about Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? That was a dub from Mandarine Chinese. Very good either way, but I think I'd rather watch it in English since I understand it. Okay, my two cents done and over with.

Anime Dubbed voices too overused?
ChibiHorsewoman replied to Rhys Mayiessen's topic in Otaku Central
SailorMoon reused quite a few voices. In particular, Ikuko Mama's dub voice when CWi did S and Ss seasons. The lady also did the voice of Michelle/Sailor Neptune. The lady who did the voice of Zoisite also did the voice of Emerald. In the original Keiko Han did the voice of Luna and the voice of Queen BEryl. But if you want to talk about overuse of Dub VA, look no further than the Swedish Sailor Moon dub. A few VA's do duel rolls (ie Annelie BErg who voices SailorMoon and Petz) but a few work overtime. Irene Lindh-SailorJupiter, Queen Beryl, Miss H. and Ikuko Mama Charlotte Ardai-Jennerfors-Queen Serenity, SailorVenus, An, and Calaveras Staffan Hallerstam Artemis, Nephrite, prince Demando, Kenji-papa, and Rei's Grandpa Anna Norberg-Naru, queen Metallia, Cooan, and Esmeraude Olav F Andersen-Jadeite, Kunzite, Ail, Rubeus, and Saffir (this guy is also the translater) Sanna Ekman-Zoisite, Beruche, and youma Dick Eriksson-Motoki, Shingo, Yuuichirou, and Wiseman (he also does Ash's voice in Sweden's Pokemon dub) Falls over and dies from typing -
I wonder what Dancing Hitler is dancing to. That said, here are my choices for album of the year. Get ready to sharpen those pitchforks for me. Up by Shania Twain-Okay, so it came out at the end of 2002, but I love the two disc set. The first song-Up is very upbeat and makes you think that even if everything is going bad for you, you can only go Up and make things better. Yeah, I'm an optomist. She's not just a pretty face is very empowering. and Waiter Bring me Water Is funny, I'm sure many of us girls have had a sudden urge to do such things to our dates. Natural Selection-Fuel-I heard it on tv and wanted it so I got it. Thirst for the Water INteresting song. You could pretty much tell a story from it. Guy is with one girl. Guy wants to be with other girl but is worried about breaking the 1st girl's heart so he leaves the other girl. Die Like This This is my absolute favorite song on this CD. Faceless-GodSmack-No real reason, but I figured since i went so far as to steal this one from my husband's CD case I must like it. THe last song on this album tho has teh same beat as the one from their self titled album, anyone else notice this? On a final note, I can't stand Marylin Manson. His voice reminds me of cats in a blender. But hey, that's just me My husband likes him enough tho.
Originally posted by outlawstar69 I'm glad to see that there is some intelligent convo here; other wise I wouldn't state my opinion. I'm a muslim; and am a religious person. It affects many of my views (not all of them though.). In Islam, I believe, (I'm not a religious scholar, so don't quote me on this as I may be in error), if a murder occurs it is up to the family of the victem to decide punishment. They can have either recompensation (blood money) or the murderer can be put to death. That's not perfect, but seeing as I have a short time here; that's all I will say for now.
There's also a passage in the Koran that states: If a man is slain unjustly, his heir shall be entitled to satisfaction. But let him not carry his vengeance to excess, for his victim is sure to be assisted and avenged.-17:33 I'm no expert on Islam (heck, I found this passage in a book and put it into my notebook) but I think what this means is that, you may seek revenge on a wrong doing to someone, but don't take it to extremes since someone will be seeking vengeance on you for doing so. So maybe public humiliation is the best course of action.

I can do a cross country course in about 4 minutes flat, at a canter, no slip ups. And the horse I ride is only 14.2 hands high. :P On the running thing tho, go run yourself. I'll just sit and watch. Now for my husband, he's in the Army 21 years old and smokes a pack a week, unless he's working in the motor pool, then it's two packs. Anyways, they make them run 2 miles every other day and his best time is 9 mins. 45 secs. Also they make them take PT tests. His worst is the sit-ups only 65 in 1 minute I forgot how many push-ups he can do. He usually does pretty good on those things and the armyu gives him a 3 day or 4 day pass depending on how myuch he's improved. He's so skinny tho, everyone says the only reason he runs fast is because he doesn't have any wind resistance. -
I've never seen a Christmas themed anime episode. The closest thing to it tho is Tenchi the Movie 2-The Daughter of Darkness. The beginning shows the Misaki residence celebrating Christmas (including Ryoko drinking too much and getting drunk) THen there's the whole Startika theme which closely resembles Chirstmas and Sasami showing Miyuka Christmas pictures. At the end Miyuka tells the Asuka that Miyuka is Miyuka and Azuka is Azuka and she doesn't want Startika anymore she wants Christmas. THe final credits go back to Christmas and show everyone doing Christmas stuff Another anime movie loosly based around Christmas is the SailorMoonS movie. The only way that includes Christmas tho is Tuxedo Kamen dressed up as Santa Clause and riding in a floating sleigh with inflatable reindeer. He says Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Okay, I'm gonna try and go back to sleep now. G'night.

Anime Dubbed voices too overused?
ChibiHorsewoman replied to Rhys Mayiessen's topic in Otaku Central
Kouga from InuYasha has the same north american voice actor as Duo Maxwell from Gundam Wing (which makes it worth watching. I also think some of the Japanese seiyuus (is that the right word?) are a bit over used. For example Araki Kae, who did the voice for ChibiUsa/SailorChibiMoon in Bishoujo senshi SailorMoon also did the voice of Yuki Miaka from Fushigi Yugi. And she did Tsukino Usagi/SailorMoon's voice a few times when Kitono Mitsiushi was out sick. -
We can put our friend's nicknames up here too right? Oh well, I'm still gonna do it. My best friend's name is Rebecca Kapica- We call her Becky obviously because it's shorter than Rebecca. Actually, I've never heard anyone call her Rebecca, but I know that's her real name. We also call her Kapicachu because of her lastname. It got so bad that my husband bought her a stuffed Pikachu and a Pikachu soap dispenser. SHe gave her neice the soap dispenser. My husband's name is Lincoln. He's called that by everyone when he's not at work. His team cheif (an NCO who's in charge of the company, I think) will call the house and ask for Lincoln. At work he's usually called Crisler, which is understandable since he's in the military. Another nickname of his is Ice Man. I don't know why, It's never been explained to me. When my brother first met Lincoln he called him Lincoln Lord of the Underworld and Becky's brother calls him G.I.Jane tho I don't know why either. Someone tried to call him Linc, you know, short for Lincoln, it didn't go over well I'm afraid. My friend, Leslie's husband's name is Lewis. I didn't know this until I met his mom and she said she was Lewis's mother. Everyone calls him Mish, like the guy in the Bible who was thrown in a furnace. We don't know why he decided to call himself Mish, but even Leslie calls him Mish. I've also been known as Ruby Horse, That girl, Sailor Aquarius (even tho I;m a Leo), Chibi, and Chibi Meg. There was also an incidend where i was called $50.00 girl. This involved a bacherloret auction in college. I refuse to give more detail.

MA KO's Ban on Gay marriages
ChibiHorsewoman replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
I have to agree with James. Everybody (including me at times) is completely missing the point. MA passing the bill to allow same sex unions has nothing to do with religion, it has to do with politics. Morals, religious beliefs, and other inconsequential arguements should be left at the door. The question I originally posted was would you support this and why or why not. Instead people just bring up beastiality and morals. Politictions don't have morals. They have a need for votes, that's all. I say just pass the bill and get it over with. That way the rest of the Eastern states will follow suite. Okay, I've said my peice. PeAcE! -
I got to thinking about this after writing my fanfic. I needed a greeting for Usagi's answering machine. Here are a few I thought up for her and other characters Usagi/ SailorMoon- Hi, is this thing on? Hi You've reached. Are you sure this is on? Okay, you've reached Tsukino Usagi I can't come to the phone. Ami, how do I know if this is on. Okay you've....Answering machine runs out take 2 Hi, you've reached Tsukino Usagi, I can't get to the phone, I tripped over my hair. Leave a message and I'll get back to you when I can. This is Usagi's machine, I don't feel like talking to you right now. Leave a message and I'll get back to you when I feel like it. InuYasha *Answering machine picks up* Hi, you've reached Inuyasha. *inuyasha eats the machine*

Other than that, I just like the name ^^ it's cool because it's short and it's the only one that's "Loki" in my school ^^ ^^ ^^ Cheebs
I think I need to clarify something. I'm only called Cheebs by my husband. Everyone else may call me Chibi tho. Oh, I should probably add that to my list now, ne? Sorry for any confusion. Hey, mistakes are okay. MA KO's Ban on Gay marriages
ChibiHorsewoman replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by Drix D'Zanth It's not so much about what the practice involves, Cheebs, that Justin and Dan are probably trying to contrast, but it's morality. How can you define bestiality as morally wrong if you say same sex marriages are right? The fact is, you cannot. Love and sex rarely accomodate eachother, and it's evident in bestiality that some animals DO and WILL have sex with humans. They obviously want it, humans want it, the human loves the animal; so it should be right, no? The point they are making is that both of them are unnatural, and morally wrong. It's a difference in opinions. We found ours on an absolute truth: religion.
First of all, you may call me Chibi, CHW, or CHibi HorseWoman. Not Cheebs, this name was given to me by my husband and only he may call me Cheebs. That said and out of my system I will now continue on the actual topic While it may be possible for sex to exist and love not to in the same context, (ie, a situation like rape where the victim most likely doesn't have love for the rapist) In this country and some of the more civilized nations you don't get married without loving the person you vow to spend the rest of your life with (I'm not going to get into arranged marriages because it's irellevent to what I'm talking about.) IN this case, I love my husband, who I vowed to spend the rest of my life with, so I'll have sex with him. An animal has no reasoning skills so how can this animal say yes or no to sex with a human. I'm just going to come right out and ask, WTF have you been watching? It's unnatural for a human to want to have sex with an animal, but it's not unnatural for a human to have sex with another human. Homosexuals are human. Do a blood test on yourself and a homosexual, they have the same number of chromosomes. As for religion, I'll take that up when I get to it, but I will have you know that I know quite a few homosexuals and bi-sexuals who go to church. TN had a good point about morals. Screw morals. Everyone's are different as shown in this thread and others. I find it moraly wrong to deny people the rights that come with marriage simply because of sexual orientation. Does that make me wrong and you right? Of course not, it' s just means we have different veiws on the subject.
Nono, don't hate gay people. I don't. I just hate the act. I don't hate the liar, i hate the lie. To be honest, I love most people. It would be ideolistic for me to claim I love everyone, but when emulating the actions of christ (to be a christian) you must love every man, even the man that strikes against you. You can hate the strike, without hating the person.
So, now homosexuality is a lie? I didn't know that. I'm afraid I don't know how touch that one, so I'll stay away from it. But I'll say it's still stupid. What I believe John was saying in his gospel is you can't love God with hate in your heart. Which is what many people have towards homosexuality simply because it's not what they consider 'right'. This is what you're doing. tho, I also find your veiw interesting since in your signature it mentions that you're a member of this board's Yaoi/ Shounen-Ai club. Can we say hypocritical thinking?
My heart goes out to anyone who doesn't know God. Not just because they are choosing a path to an eternity in hell... but because they are chosing an eternity without the greatest relationship anyone could possibly comprehend.
I believe I stated this before. Being homosexual doesn't mean you don't know God. That's an unfair assumption. Sexuality isn't about religion, it's about how you were born. You don't choose whether you're gay or straight. It's the same as saying you choose if you're black or white, rich or poor or even male or female. You simply can't do that. It's impossible. If we could do that I'd be a beautiful skinny rich woman and my husband would have to be in the military to support us. But I can't do that any more than a friend of mine can control that he likes boys and not girls. And I'll say this again too, I know pleanty of homosexuals who attend church. Does this mean taht they're going to hell? Do you honestly belive in your version of afterlife that St.Peter is going to go to Valerie Crisler and say, I'm sorry, you were a lesbian and even tho you went to church and the worst thing you did was run a stop sign , you're going to hell. Then he'll turn to I don't know Jeffery Domeer (sp?) and say, yes,. you raped and murdered young women, but hey, you were straight and converted, welcome in? If you answered yes, please stop reading now. The Bible has many interesting laws to it. Why don't you use it to condone slavery again? People did that in the 1800's to legitamize why they had slaves. But was slavery 'moraly' right? Is it okay to keep a human in bondage? No, but people swore the Bible said it was just fine.
As for my opinion on gay marriage.. i'm against it. Marriage is a religious practice, and homosexuality is contradictory to the religion. Why exactly would homosexuals want to utiilize an event that is directly contradictory to their own lifestlye (in sex, that is)? I don't think the gov't should go on a random crusade to try and abolish sodomy, because you can't. Whatever they want to do, they can, just keep it behind closed doors. Should it be protected as a marriage by law? No thanks, I'll elaborate later.
Contradictory to which religion? Your religion, maybe, but to some other religions possibly not. Wicca doesn't have a book which states that men can't marry men. Satanists don't have one either. And what about atheists? Don't even try to tell me you think an atheist is going to believe the way you do about marriage and religion. But, TN and others have clearly stated that homosexuality has nothing to do with religion, so I'm not going to elaborate on that part. All these people want is recognization of their rights as humans who want to live together. Are you trying to tell me that just because you'r religion says it's so that this should continue? Like TN said, White Christian STRAIGHT men have run the world for 1500 years. You haven't been oppressed or denied your rights. No one has ever told you you can't get married to someone you love. And I highly doubt you've been told that you can't attend your religious services or had to fight to hold a ceromony. It's time to quit hiding behind a book and join the world -
Why not just put it this way and be done with it? This 'debate' has been going on since before recorded history. Men and women have been going back and forth since before the sufferage movement and the war efforts of ww1 and ww2. We both have strengths and weaknesses. Some men have a better sense of direction than women and some women can build things better than men. Simple as that We're different but equal at the same time. Now that that's finished, if you need me I'll be participating in the Indy 500 (yeah riiiiiight)

MA KO's Ban on Gay marriages
ChibiHorsewoman replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by SadClown I love how in the face of everything that has been said, those people who are pro-gay have time and again given solid evidence to support their claims, but those against it keep reverting back to this Beastiality thing...and yet, gay marriage is still not legal...whats the deal?
I agree. Beastiality has as much to do with homosexuality as pineapples have to do with the Russian Ballet. In other words, they have nothing in common. An animal cannot reciprocate your love anymore than a pineapple can do a pas de chat. Yet for some odd reason the people (with the exception of DanL. and Justin who gave rather good arguments based on their beliefs and left stupidity out of it.) who were so dead set against same sex marriages equated it with beastiality. I have to wonder if they equate their parent's marriages with something like that as well. Don't try to use religion for your debate because the Bible mentions love more than hate. And if you say you love God yet hate homosexuals, you are a liar. It says so in 1John (I don't remember the verse) If a man says he loves God and hates his brother he is a liar. For how can he love God who he hasn't seen when he hates his brother who he has seen. I agree with what you said about receiving the same rights as a heterosexual married couple as well. Why should someone in a same sex relationship be denied the same rights I have as a woman married to a man? If this was involving races, you know someone would get on congress to change the bill. It's desturbing that in a nation so concerned with being PC and progressive that we can't be open minded enough to allow same sex marriages. -

I wouldn't have been able to figure it out without you telling me that! Anyway I think if this country brought back public humiliation we'd have a lot less crimes to begin with. SO what if it does something to their self esteem *shrugs* I don't really care. And it actually costs more to keep a criminal behind bars with no opportunity for parol than to kill the person. You have to keep the person alive right? That means you have to pay for food, those lovely orange jumpsuits, the cost of keeping up the prison, heat and the moth eatten matress. Face it, up north some homeless people try to get arrested just so they can get a meal and a place to sleep. Now to kill a person-you need the room, the chair and some lethal injection. I don't know why they bother with a clean syringe every time they kill someone. They dude's gonna die anyway. Stick him with the rustiest thing you've got and get it over with.
Originally posted by Leh Exactly what I was thinking, Semjaza.
I simply meant that you shouldn't call someone a liar because of something they're seeing. IN my religion, there are possibilities of things like that happening the same with Ryu and Samurai. If someone heard God talking to them, would you call them a liar? I don't think so. So why should this be any different? You shouldn't make judgements on things you know nothing about. and i still think you're rude
