1.
. Though I was a Buffalo Bills fan way back when Jim Kelley played for them, dunno how many of you would remember that, and I haven't followed them in over 10 years.
I remember that. I refer to middle school as the years the Bills didn't suck. Anyways, the Bills are playing the Patriots at Foxburrough this weekend and they haven't won a game at Fox borrough (Spelling) since 2000. I think they're going to keep that up.
2.
I could have sword the reason that West Virginia was split off the main Virginia before the Civil War was because the folk in West Virginia opposed slavery and mistreatment of other races, while the people in Virginia wanted to keep their slaves no matter what. I guess there are still hate-crime level racist people out there, especially in the southeast US, where you do still get confederates from time to time. People these days do sick and disgusting things I guess, they shouldn't but nobody is willing to stop them, nor are they going to even bother finding or resisting them all.
It was a vote in 1863 where the residents of Western Virginia decided to join the union. Funny that it took them two years to make that decision. I think it had more to do with the fact that the south was starting to lose the war than slavery, but it did seem to help their cause. Anyways, it doesn't matter where you live whether it's a large metropolitan city or a small town, or you live in the north or the south every place has their backwards inbred rednecks. Case in point I had a woman who's grandson was this little chicken *censored* bigot. He threw around the 'n' word whenever he got the chance- especially to the woman's ILS drivers who where black. He was so white trash he would have been out of his element in Arkansas. Another example happened back in 2001 after 9/11. A friend of mine and I were riding through one of the local parks and there were two pick up trucks that had large ply wood signs with the words: Death to all towel heads. Just goes to show you that you can live way up north and still have the red necks. People are trying to make stuff like this a thing of the past, but you can't stop people from being idiots. Or just being plain dispicable. At least in this case the courts are going for more serious charges like kidnapping and assualt so hopefully the next imbecile will think twice before doing something like this.
3. I caught the footage on youtube and on CNN. Also the activities director at the nursing home made it part of the current event discussion. The kid was being obnoxious and asking dumb questions. Then when they cut his mike he got billigerant and started getting aggressive. He resisted arrest and was fighting with the cops. So really he wasn't behaving in a civilized manner and broke the law. Yeah, maybe they shouldn't have tasered the guy, but he was being obnoxious
4.
On an equally random sidenote, since Ireland introduced it's smoking ban, bar workers apparently experience better health records. Go them.
New York state instituted a smoking ban inside resturaunts, bars and the like in 2002. Let me tell you it was a nice breath of fresh air when I moved back up here from Texas in 2003. Texas still (I haven't been there since 2005) has designated smoking areas and you can smell the difference. This year Monroe county went a step further and now prohibits smoking on any hospital grounds which makes sense since people are sick and the last thing they really need is second hand smoke. Plus the whole deal with Oxygen being in use. Also we have a hotline to help people quit called NewYork Quits. There's a website and everything.
5. Aang with hair is just creeping me out. And is anyone but myself still wondering what happened to those Kyoshi warriors that Princess Nut Job and friends ran into in Appa's Lost Days?
Iroh's in jail? :animecry: That's just not right
On the SD shorts from the second season bonus DVD Iroh was voiced by Greg Baldwin and I could hardly tell the difference between him and Mako. So hopefully his character in the third season will be just as good as in the previous seasons. Only three more days until the third season- if I was a little yappy dog, I'd be peeing myself- Just kidding :animeswea I found the following page from Avatarspirit If you feel like a good spoiler, click on the link bellow for a fairly decent summary (as well as screen shots ) of the first episode. http://www.animationinsider.net/article.php?articleID=1482&document=1
6. Okay after about a day and some moderate... activity with Spy :animeblus I'm back. And I'm too damn worn out to read through everything. I have to say that I have very liberal views when it comes to sex and I'm an advocate for using birth control. I don't like the idea of teaching soley abstinence because The way I see it is if you keep telling someone not to do something they're going to do it anyway and enjoy it three times as much because it's forbidden. You take away the allure of the forbidden and suddenly it's not as appealing. Yeas, it's still a curiosity and yeah pleanty of people are going to do it. But since there's no stigma attached to it and people will ask questions and become better informed. And you won't have the ignorant American teenagers who think that you get pregnant from sitting on a toilet someone peed on.:animeswea I'd continue on, but dammit all I'm tiired. So I can't continue. I blame Lee (Spy)
7. Can I vote for aceburner? Because dammit all I hated that dog too
8. I've been smoking on and off since I was a Freshman in college. Mostly off since none of my friends smoke and ever since my custody thing was finished back in July I don't have the stress that I did anymore. Not that I was much of a smoker to begin with- I may have smoked like three a day, if that. But then when I realized that I had to make a choice between gas or smoking I chose putting gas in my car. My brother smokes. And some family members of people I take care of smoke. Now that I've quit (for good this time because my boyfriend will kill me if I ever start again and it's one of the few thngs I actually listen to him about) I realize how nasty it is, the smoke gives me a head ache and just gets everywhere. Plus the taste is horrid. I don't know what possesed me to start the last time.... oh yeah I do, the lady who wore clown make up and threw things at me! But seriously why waste your money on something that's gonna kill you?
9. Yes, I know it's already the second week in the season and there's already been a scandal (Patriots watching tapes of the Jets' play signals) a MAJOR injury (One of the Bills' new players had a serious spinal injury last week and the doctors are still speculating whether he'll walk again) and a shedload of other things. But I figure better late than never, right? Of course right. So, any speculations for the superbowl? Favorite teams? Comments in general? I'm watching the Patriots'/ Chargers game right now and the Chargers are pretty much getting their butts handed to them at twenty-four to nothing. But hey it is only half time, maybe something will work.... Yeah and maybe I'll start playing for the Bills. Speaking of the Bills they lost to the Steelers today twenty-seven to three. At least I think that was the score. Which is pathetic because last week they only lost by one point. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that they lost three of their best players before the season was even off the ground and they're stuck using back up players. So anyone else care to share anything?
10. Hey ya'll I just bought the second season boxed set this Friday and have been watching it like an obsessed fan. (That uh, wouldn't be me though that woould be my friend Angel who bought all the DVDs as well as the boxed sets :animeswea) I'm finally on Tales of Ba Sing Se and that along with The Desert (something about Sokka strung out on Cactus juice just does something to me :D) is one of my favorite episodes. Sokka's story is the funniest and Iroh's is the most moving. I have to say though that the best part of this box set was the bonus DVD with the Avatar Super Deformed (chibi) shorts. Oh man! I watched those first on Friday as soon as I came home from work and fell off my bed from laughing so hard. The Shipping School Showdown (or was it School Shipping Showdown?) was the funniest by far
Katara ends up going to the dance with the Blue Spirit
This was a much better bonus DVD than what came with the first season box set. I caught a glimps of the third season Saturday morning. But sadly I'll still be working at 8:30PM and will miss the East coast premire. BUt thankfully my satellite company carries the West coast Nickelodeon station so I'll watch it at 11:30PM EST. I'm so excited. Well not extremely 'Foamy' excited. But fi Okay I have to ask a few questions, probably like the ones resembling teh ones in the Sailor Moon thread 1.) Who's your favorite Avatar character? 2.) What's your favorite episode? 3.) What's your favorite pairing? 4.) IF you could bend any element what would it be? As for myself: 1.) My favorite character is definately Uncle Iroh. I like the depth of character the writers gave him. He's usually very laid back and doesn't seem all there. But when he gets backed into a corner everyone should watch out because even at his age he can still out bend pretty much everyone, Theres no question that Iroh Pwns everyone else. 2.) Either Tales of Ba Sing Se or Siege of the North part one. 3.) Favorite pairing- Sokka and Suki. She did see him first (animated shorts reference) I also like the Zutara shipping. But after the end of last season it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Plus I read on Avatarspirit.net and heard from a friend of mine that
it looks like there may be a Zuko/ Mai pairing
which makes sense since she's had a crush on him for a while. 4.) I'd want to be a fire bender. Yeah, sure most of them are sociopathic and should be placed on sedatives. But the martial arts used to create the fire benders' style looks so neat
11. I'm going to try and top these... wish me luck :animesmil I hope ya like it
12. What about Magic Knight Rayearth? Yes, the storyline starts out in Tokyo Tower and off and on the girls are in Tokyo. But for most of the story everything is happening in Cephiro. I could probably make a new list as well- or at least half a list 1.) Rayearth- For reasons already stated 2.) Mobile Suit Gundam Wing- Most of it was in space, or on colonies. Yeah so Hiiro was from 'Tokyo' the show sure didn't take place there. 3.) Clover- I don't know if it ended up as an anime or not... dang it! I can't think of anymore by myself. Can we just combine these?
13.
Beg pardon? You think??!
I need to make a mental note to not start things after a twelve hour shift. Nothing ever turns out right. :animesigh I KNOW it's about personal choice. I lost it at nineteen and my brother lost it at like fifteen or something. It was my choice to wait and my brother's choice to be a horn dog. Everyone has a different take on it
Personally, I have no need for it. I just don't care. At all. There might be other reasons besides that, such as the fact that my habit of processing multiple strains of information at the same time would make such an intimate situation quite awkward (I doubt that sex works well at the same time as schedule-planning, for instance...or even how baseball and mathematics are intertwined), but ultimately it is my total lack of interest in our culture's pastime that explains why I don't seek it out.
Duckie? Is that you? :animeknow Sorry I have a male friend who has the exact same opinions. But he doesn't even get why he should get out and try to date in the first place. I think getting out in general is important. Yeah sometimes sex is involved, but it is a sad state of affairs if all you have to base a relationship on is sex (even good sex will pale in comparisson with good conversational skills.) because after a while the two of you will lose your looks (even will Botox) and you won't be able to do a damn thing. All I have to add is this: Sex is like air, it's not important unless you're not getting any.
14.
I think it should be a personal choice, once you're old enough that is. I do think that abstinence is important, but I also don't think people should be limited to waiting until they get married. As for how I learned about it... I got most of my information from online and at the local library. Sex ed was a joke. Now as for embarrassing experiences? I'm fifteen, jail bait by Utah laws and have no interest in it at the moment. XP So no stories from me, unless you like the ones where I've smacked someone for attempting to touch me in a manner I did not want. :animesigh I don't even have a boyfriend because so far... All the boys I know are brats.
I know what you mean by sex-ed being a joke. My health teacher was an ultra conservative Christian (no offense to anyone who follows monotheistic religions) So we didn't learn too much about condom usage. We did however learn a shedload about STDs (STVs) and watched a video on Abstinence produced by Focus on the Family. All the while the teacher was saying that she didn't want to force her veiws on anyone. And please keep in mind that I went to a public high school. Also, yeah, some of us don't want to remember things like this, but the old 'walking in on your parents' stories could work. Ooh now I have to go bleach my eyeballs! Still slightly on topic, what is the age of consent in your state/country/province? I know for most of the US it's sixteen (Including in New York state) some parts in the south it's fifteen and in good old Hawaii it's Fourteen!
15. I hope you can use manga Poor Soka
16. Hmm, other emberassing stories? A girl I know had a bad case of lock jaw at a very bad moment. Her (now ex) boyfriend was less than pleased, but it sure gave everyone else a good laugh. One of those 'Please God don't ever let it happen to me' things. My boyfriend still reminds her about it too. I've had a few times where my mom called on the phone- it wasn't bad when it went into regular voice mail, but before I signed up for voice mail I had an answering machine and hearing her voice in the middle of that just killed the mood. :animeswea
17.
Because people aren't objects?
True. But I wasn't thinking of it that way exactly. Well... you do have this new trend called a Starter Husband, but that's messy. :animesigh It was close to a good analogy, but I guess not. What I really was going for was that for some couples sex and physical attraction are important parts of a relationship and unless you're willing to work on certain aspects that are more than just slightly lacking then wouldn't you rather know ahead of time before you've booked that party room at the Burgundy Basin Inn? Anyway, abstinence is a great idea. I do believe that people should at least try to control themselves. But the fact is when there are a lot of hormones involved it really is hard to just say no.
18. Five anime that don't take place in Japan 1.) Kaleidostar- The first half takes place in California and the second half takes place in New York City 2.) Pokemon- Takes place in somewhere I have no idea where 3.) Naruto- Hidden Leaf village and various other places. 4.) Fushigi Yugi - Although Miaka and Yui are from Japan the setting of the story is in ancient China. 5.) Trigun- It almost looks like a post apocolyptic western setting rather than even earth.
19. I can't think of how to properly phrase the questions due to the fact that my brain is only functioning at half speed so bear with me please. I'm just curious about how people learned about sex (school, parents, Cinemax?) What myths, truths, facts or rumors did you have to go on? Anything you wish you just didn't know (Or see, because I can imagine some of us have some scarring in our lives from things we wish we'd never seen) Or maybe some emberassing stories? Also a more serious question. (I'm covering all bases tonight) Do you think that abstinence is important? Should you wait to have sex after marriage or does it just matter that you're mature enough to make that type of decision? Just remember to keep it clean since this isn't an adult site, so please don't get too graphic. No one really wants to know every single detail. As for myself: I went to school during the Clinton administration but my health teacher was very conservative. So the sex-ed class left much to be desired. My mom covered a lot of the basics with me (sometimes I wish she hadn't) and even took me to get birth control pills. I know not everyone wants all the intimate details, but for me it wasn't all that exciting the first time. Infact it was lack luster and I wished I had a book. :D The phrase 'We are not amused' flashed in my head a few times. And I was convinced my roommates in college had lied to me. As for the abstinence question. I didn't exactly wait and I don't believe my kids will either. I think it's all about personal choices. But you should make sure that you're ready to do something that big. Of course in that same breath: You test drive a car before you buy it so why shouldn't you sleep with someone you're thinking of marrying? Sorry, I'll try to think better tomorrow. But other opinions would be appreciated.
20. Some people are just sick freaks, nothing will change that. I have to wonder if some of the words the woman's captives used were soley psychologically and not racially motivated. Still I haven't heard much on this story since I'm hardly near a TV or newspaper. So I can't give out a very well thought out opinion.
21. Sorry to hear that Sammy. I have that experiance with a girl I've been friends with for nearly thirteen years. We were really close until I came back from Texas and then all this stuff (IE Kids, massive life changes and her moving across town with her new boyfriend) happened. Now I'm lucky if I hear from her more than once a month. I swear either that girl has short term memory loss or an iron deficiency because she's forever getting worn out. And she takes forever to return phone calls. I only have two friends in my hometown, everyone else I'm friends with is out of town, out of state or out of the country. So it bugs me and the one time I did confront her about it she got mad. But I guess I shouldn't feel that bad since she does the same thing to the other girl who lives here who we're friends with. But it does get to you when you've been friends with someone nearly half your life and they treat you like a nuiscence.
22. Well being one of the few drivers in my HHA company and it being my weekend off I can predict that when I go in for my check tomorrow afternoon someone's going to try and get me to work this weekend. It's one of those things that happens to me every weekend. Heh, either I'm gonna get asked tomorrow afternoon. Or next weekend when it is my weekend to work someone's going to get confused and ask me to work. Either way I foresee work in my future.
23. I don't know how it all started since it's really not my type of music. But I've been listening to Paramore's new CD Riot and I actually like it. You just can't go wrong with the $9.99 shelves of new music at Target :catgirl:
24. Whoot! Not too late! Okay 1.) Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon 2.) Magic Knight Rayearth 3.) Azumanga Daioh 4.) Kaleidostar
25. Hey silpheedpilot nice way to set up the tone, I liked the comparison... but what about the Pentagon and flight 93? Heh, get ready for a long winded post, because when I remember something it stays remembered. Anyways, September 11th 2001 is a day that I won't forget (I think it's like our generation's Kennedy assasination or fall of Saigon) I was home from work waiting for my mom to come get me so I could get to my doctor's appointment- I had some kind of virus and the doctor wanted to make sure I was healthy before I went back to work. My mom burst in the door at 8:50AM EST and wanted to know if I had the TV on because something bad had happened. Being my half sober (medication) self I thought that she meant there had been a major earthquake in California and turned on the TV just in time to see a lot of people crying and such. I found out the four minutes prior to my mom coming in the door some morons with a skewed sense of Islam hijacked a plane and sent it crashing into tower one (We found out later that the nephew of some family friends was in that tower and died) Well anyways, a national tradgedy isn't any reason to skip my doctor's appointment so my mom and I hop in her car and headed downtown to the doctor's office- we'd just driven over the upper falls of the Genessee River (see I told you I had a good memory) when the second tower was hit. it was a mess, the radio announcers were crying, no music, just a lot of yelling and updates. My mom and I started worrying about a cousin of mine who lived in Brooklyn- she worked at a daycare center two blocks from Ground Zero. Then while I was in the doctor's office getting some blood drawn for whatever else the Pentagon was hit. Then of course that flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania. My ex called later from Korea (he's just gotten settled in there with the US Army a week prior and wanted me to know how he was.) My parents wouldn't even let me leave the house for the rest of the day, my brother was crying and the entire mood was really subdued. That night was really eerie too. I live about a five minute drive from the local airport so there's usually a lot of planes flying overhead, some of them are low enough where you can make out the windows and the company. But that night it was really quiet, there was hardly any traffic on the expressway, or on the main roads and of course no air traffic. Before I finish, I just want to say that on 9/11/02 I gave the terrorists the collective finger with thousands of other airline passengers and crew and flew down to Texas. Because if you continue to live in fear, you let them win.
