There's laundry to do and it's mine, but I just can't bring myself to care enough to do it. Maybe I'll get lucky and the laundry fairy will come in the middle of the night and do it.:catgirl:

I'm up at 6am reminding myself that I have to bring my daughter's snowpants to school this morning because her pre-K teacher is taking them outside today. Meanwhile I have a facebook message from my fiance's cousin up in Surrey an hour north of Vancouver that she hasn't seen any snow yet. Sounds like the Vancouver winter games are SOL.
Actually I breezed through airline security when I was coming back from the Philippines into Hawaii, and Hawaii into California. For one, at the airports I went through in the US, I did not in fact get groped by a woman [or even a man]. When I first traveled to Heathrow, and I was actually old enough to qualify as a homicidal maniac in my own right, I was happily rubbed down by a woman old enough to collect Social Security had she been a US citizen. In Manila International, I was groped at every possible opportunity, my bags were passed through scanners that too so long I was pretty sure they'd become permanently lodged in the machine, and the same thing happened in Hong Kong as well as interior China. And while people might complain about a 'pat' down in the US, I can safely say other foreign countries have no qualms about giving your reproductive organs a quick squeeze. Every time I get lonely for some burgeoning intimacy, I just travel international. And while I don't get my balls squashed by an airline attendant the way my dad and male cousins do, I DO get my breasts felt up just in case I'm smuggling explosives in my padded underwire bra. And they complain about a touch free device? PAH!
I only have experiance with traveling back and forth from the States to the inlaws but when I was coming back from Kelowna, BC to Seattle, WA it was kinda crazy. For one thing even though you're supposed to get to security 2 hours prior to international flights the security gates didn't open until 45 minutes prior to my departure- so I at least had plenty of time for check in (15 US dollars for one bag to fly about 500 miles or so). And I just had to send my carry on through not take my shoes off or anything like I did back in my hometown airport. There wasn't even any groping or a hand held metal scanner so I feel kinda hurt.:animeswea I'd have to say in some ways the Canadians are pretty cool and not into groping. Getting my connecting flight in Seattle was more of a juggle (I do partially blame the time of day- 6:45AM ) But on the bright side since it was a larger airport there were more customs agents (4 compaired to 2 in Kelowna) I believe the lay overs at SeaTac were worse than the security checks in either YLW or ROC. Having said that though I did have fun getting into Niagra Falls ON over the past summer from NY. Also the security guards at Phoenix's Sky Harbor airport don't seem to mind a quick grab.
On the radio this morning they said such scanners were in the US too, but I didn't want to really listen to people whine about me posting an article from FOX news.
Yes we do have the full body scanners in the US- they did one on a trial basis at my local airport and I used it back in September when I went on holiday to Canada. And to be honest you see nothing but an outline. One of the local news stations showed what you'd see during a 6pm broadcast before I went on holiday. If you're going to freak out about seeing an outline you need to lay off the glue. I guess if they have a problem with children going through the full body scanners they could use the old fashioned method to avoid issues. But for adults this is my safety or my family's safety we're talking about... and if you want to be scarred for life go ahead and get a better view f me. While we're on the subject though, has anyone besides myself traveled by air from the US to Canada lately and back and noticed how much more stuff you have to go to to get back into the states then get into Canada?

Our Generation in a Nursing Home
I've no idea what it will be like, but I'm not terribly worried over it. I used to have a more negative view of nursing homes but not anymore. I had to get guardian ship for my grandmother who suffered from dementia and lacked the ability to care for herself anymore. As much as I wanted to leave her at her home, there just wasn't the funds to pay for someone to keep an eye on her all the time. It didn't help that her memory problems resulted in her taking a broom and smashing things when they didn't work right. It gave me a better appreciation of how important those kind of places are. She got the care she needed and with her memory issues she didn't know where she was, at all. Though it also meant she no longer knew who I was either. I only hope I make it to 90+, like my grandmother did, before needing that kind of care.
As someone who's worked in memory care, hospice and as a home aide as well as someone who will be marrying into a family with a member with alzheimers I have to give you a lot of credit for taking care of your grandma for as long as you were able to. It's a lot of work to take care of someone depending on the stage. I'm also glad you don't feel any guilt for putting your loved one in the care of people who are somewhat trained to do so. I say somewhat because every case of Alzheimers/ demensia is different. My soon to be mom in law is a CNA and when she gets home from work she takes care of her mom. Recently she also found out that her boyfriend has Parkinson's while visiting him in Alberta. When she came home she put her mom in respite care for a week in the nursing home she works at for a week. So see even the people who make a living taking care of other people's loved ones need a rest. It's not easy. But we do it anyway. -
If I do like my other relatives and have issues with dementia, I won't even know I'm there since I'll be reliving the past. I can't say I'm too keen on the idea but at the same time it's too far away for me to really care about it.
Interesting Rach, my fiance's maternal grandma has alzheimers- a form of demensia. Right now it's just her short term memory that she has issues with (I called Wednesday before Christmas and she told me that she'd have Lee call me and did he have my name and number after I'd told her who I was) Her long term memory is still in tact (with obvious exceptions, she thinks my fiance and his brothers are younger than they really are)She can for the most part get herself dressed and do the majority of her ADLs without supervision, but my fiance's mom walks her through the steps of taking a bath (She's a CNA at a local nursing home) and writes down lists of some activities to keep her busy (ie: feed the fish in the fish pond, let the dog out ect ect) so she can slow the effects of the disease along with the medications. But you're right you won't know your in a nursing home. Or you'll know your not at your regular home and keep insisting that someone take you back to your home- or get your decesed spouse to come get you. When I worked in assisted living for strictly memory care residents one guy would sometimes go down for dinner, go back to his room and take a nap then come out a few hours later convinced he'd missed dinner- so myself or one of the other RAs would make him a sandwhich. There was also the time one new resident convinced four other residents that there was a resturaunt in the main lobby and they kept hitting the exit doors trying to find it. :animesigh. Growing old isn't too enjoyable of a prospect, but there's an Irish saying that goes: Do not regret growing old, many are denied the PRIVLEDGE. Looks like Chibi #2 is gonna be the Blingified pimped out resident. Again... you pimp Chibi! If I end up in hopsice, I want to have rye every day with a bit of water and a constant injection of morphine from a pump to keep me very happy. But I definately want to be the confused resident who rolls around in a motorized wheel chair throwing food and wondering when my dead parents are coming to pick me up. Our Generation in a Nursing Home
I'd rather die early than live in a nursing home, tbqh.
Actually I think it depends on the nursing home. The one I did most of my hospice cases was really nice. They did happy hours once a month with alcohol and it was almost like apartments. It also smelled better than the one I work in now. Now the ones that look like institutions I think if my kids send me there I'll stop eatting so I can haunt the damn place. Tapeperson: We don't have a Lady Gaga in any unit where I work. But up on my friend's unit there's a resident who strips when she feels the need to do so. She was doing it last week so they wouldn't send her down to wait for the pediotrist with me. Instead her own CNA had to go with her when it was her turn. My friend also has a guy who marks his territory. I want to be the lady who tears down the hallways running over CNAs at random. -
Okay not the best sounding thread title ever, but I haven't made a thread in months. Anyway last Friday the activity guy and I were doing the female residents' nails and talking about how the residents aren't allowed blue nailpolish or glitter unless it's on their care plans because they didn't grow up with blue nailpolish and the like. So then we got on a discussion of how when our generation is in a nursing home you'll see old men with black nails and guy liner rolling down the halls with women wearing neon coloured nailpolish. Now I don't know how true that is, but that got me to thinking about what other people think it may be like when our generation becomes the geriatric generation. So by all means if you have an idea bring it up. This could be interesting. At least to me. But I make my living with geriatrics.

I've been having crazy dreams ever since I went back on my anti depressant and my ADD meds. Most recently I had a dream that one of my friends wanted to kill me and she attempted to do so by chopping off my hair. I'm not sure why she wanted me dead. But I also dreamed that this friend didn't want me at her wedding because her future mother in law told her it was either me or her and it couldn't be me. I was actually quite pissed when I woke up from that. I've had some very odd sex dreams too, none of them involving my fiance and a few of them involving a guy I knew from my Wicca 101 class I took 4 years ago. Yeah I really do have issues. Maybe if I could dream about doing the deed with someone I actually know and could do that in real life with I'd be better. The oddest dream I can remember though involved my surviving grandparents. I had a dream that their house was on fire and we had to save them. This was their old house that they'd lived in from the time my mom and her sisters were in secondary school to when I was in high school but when the fire fighters rescued them they'd turned into rather obese cats. Actually at that time I believe I was on the same anti depressants and ADD meds.
I thought I was crazy untill reading the above posts. @_@
Isn't it great when you wake up one morning, log onto Otakuboards and find out you aren't the strangest one of all anymore? Myxomatosis, I think your female friend needs to meet up with my male friend. The guy is obsessed with Japanese, DDR, and Asian women. The main reason he failed his first semester at OSU was because he was majoring in Japanese and the characters were hard for him. Seriously the only things he can talk about are calculus, Asian girls on the bus he takes to school who he thinks have a crush on him and anime. He was once dating a friend of ours and she broke up with him because he kept compairing her to another one of our friends who's Vietnamese. :animesigh Now me, I still watch anime (I found my Sailor Moon DVDs a few weeks ago Wee!) but not as much as I used to. I also have friends who watch anime and read manga. Actually I've gotten my fiance a little more into it) but we also have regular jobs or are in college and we have lives outside of anime and manga. I still am interested in Japanese culture, but I do realize that the cost of living in Japan is even higher than the cost of living in Canada. Plus foreign languages are fun, but if I had to learn an Asian language I'd choose Vietnamese over Japanese because it looks easier. I'm having a heck of a time learning French anyway.

By the way the next time I crash into something with my car I'll make sure to alert the media. Oh and Chibi 2 thanks for your congrats. I appreciate it.

No matter how many times you run into a wall you won't fall over 2.)
Doctors and nurses risk their lives every day to treat the sick and the hurt. If everyone is gets help then the hospitals will be over run and those in the medical field will be paid close to minimum wage. People will be turned away or old people and those who are too expensive to care for will be given a euthanize pill.
:animestun I'm with Nathan on this and wishing Lee wasn't at his dad's this weekend with no computer access. When I read this this morning on my phone my first inclination was to bang my head repeatedly on a wall. But my co workers already think I'm crazy so I didn't do that. My second inclination was to seriously doubt your sanity, but I'm nice and I kinda know you so I didn't. So I'm just gonna shake my head and hope that this post is articulate since I've just finished 13hrs of work- most of them being yelled at. Japan, the US has more than enough doctors to take care of all the citizens in the country yet for some reason we don't. In otherINDUSTRIALIZED nations doctors are given incentives for the patients they see rather than the patients they turn away as they are here. In fact they'd be paid MORE than they are now. As for nurses- all nurses from CNAs to RNs would be paid more as well especially if they were government employees. For example Lee's (Spy46) mom works as a CNA up in British Columbia and makes 27$ an hour. She's also considered a government employee because of Canada's National Health care and gets the same benefits as Canada's other government employees. Also she gets extra time off for any overtime worked. That could just be the nursing home she works at. As opposed to my co-workers at the nursing home I work at where the CNAs make a little over 10$ an hour which is pretty damn sad considering how hard they work. The activities directors make more! Also, I'd like to make a note that I'm in the medical feild and I make just above minimum wage. I have to work two jobs and live with my parents in order to pay my bills and fulfill my basic needs and my daughter's. Shouldn't I be allowed to make more money too? While I'm on Canada- since this is the system I'm most familiar with let's talk nursing homes and end of life care (Hospice and Paliative care). The nursing homes there are either private pay or government run and the government run ones are free thanks to the taxes you pay for national and provincial health care as opposed to the ones here that can run from 10K (for the ones that look like an institution) to over 20k a year and trust me you do get what you pay for. Also this stupid Euthinasia idea has got to stop. Assisted suicide which is only legal in Oregon for those of you who may want to know has never been mentioned on the bill. There would still be the poor underpaid HHAs who would be recuited by their agencies to be Hospice Aides and give comfort to people in their last days or months. Trust me though I don't blame some people who have no hope of recovery want to kill themselves. I was a home health assistant for two years and had about fifteen hospice cases. Nothing looks worse and is more painfull than a stage 3 or 4 decube ulcer on your pressure points that has to be cleaned out by your CHN every other day. The fact that your body can't heal itsself only makes thigs worse and even a morphine pump doesn't help releive all the pain. But the idea that our government would willingly sign into law a bill that allowed killing of the sick and elderly is completely ludacris. Sorry for that last one- I've worked in the lower paid side of health care for three years and seen quite a bit from my experiance.

The possibility that I may completely lose my voice before my holiday and therefore have to speak to my boyfriend's family using ASL, notebooks and pictures is becoming ever possible as every day I spend at work involves explaining to many residents that 'no I can't toilet you' and 'please stay in your seat.' On the bright side- I can always become a mime on the streets of Vancouver. :animeswea
