Well the last movie I saw in a movie theater was The Devil Wears Prada It wasn't bad. Not funny but not bad. And it was a great predecessor for Ugly Betty. My favorite line has got to be when Emily yells at Anne Hathaway's character for the clothes she's wearing. She says: You shouldn't be allowed to wear those clothes! You eat carbs for Christ Sake! I think the last movie I watched at home was Raising Helen. I can't remember the whole thing because I kept getting interrupted. But there was that scene where that one woman was chasing everyone out with a bat! Oh man I fell off my bed laughing at that. I really need to get out more. I wonder if I can pursuade one of my friends to catch an afternoon movie with me next weekend.

Ahh Thanksgiving. The holiday proceeding Christmas in the United States where my mom's side of the family gathers the night before at the hostess' (My mom is the middle child in a family of three girls who all are the main bread winner in their marriages except for my aunt Marty who- like me- is divorced, but still has her own house) house to prepare the beginning of dinner and talk a lot. Then they go home for a while only to come back early the next day while the guys (and myself) watch football. A lot of eating and laughing goes on as well. Usually after dinner and pie we play board games, talk a lot and then divide up the left overs and leave. Last year my ex was still stateside so he came to pick up our daughter after dinner and my mom's older sister retreated upstairs so she didn't 'forget she was a Christian'. This year I work Thanksgiving because the airport is open twenty-four seven three hundred sixty-five. So after everything is done I have to go to work. But they should have food there as well. Plus it should hopefully be a slow night and I'll be out by midnight. Then I can do some Thanksgiving sale shopping before my Friday shift So, what is everyone thankful for?

Saddam Hussein Sentenced to Death
ChibiHorsewoman replied to kenshinsbabe's topic in General Discussion
Ah, I just want to add the fact that the US government was instrumental to Saddam's acquisition of military and political control over Iraq back when Charlie's Angels was still the "in" thing. It's not a conspiracy theory thing, they favored (and aided in) the transfer of power to Saddam (who had amicable relations with the US then). ~*~ I am rather appalled at how the general public was misinformed about the US administration's agenda. Survey says: 1) hunt for al Qaeda; 2) war against terrorism; 3) "liberation" of Iraq; and 4) Bush's compensation for Bush the Elder's, ehrm, faux pas. If history really is "the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon" as Napoleon put it, I wonder how this event will appear on books printed half a century from now.
Yes you have to love the all American strategy of replacing one dictator with another then waiting a few years to attack the country where we placed him. As I recall we did that in Cuba as well. The entire administration is a farce (Can't spell today) especially where Iraq is concerned. At least when we invaded Afghanistan in 2002 the members of the military knew what they were after, Al Quieda and hopefully Bin Laden. But troops were lied to for Opperation Iraqi freedom in March 2003. There has NEVER been any proof what so ever of Saddam having connections to Al Quieda or weapons of mass destruction. And to be completely honest, in May 2003 when Bush declared Mission Accomplished I was in my apartment in Killeen Texas (one of the towns surrounding Fort Hood) supressing my urge not to throw the bedroom TV out the window. Finally as we know history is written by the victors. But we have yet to see who those victors will be. So I guess only time will tell. -
It's fine to laugh at religion and make jokes about it privately or among friends. Lord knows i've got a sense of humor when it comes to such things. I never disagreed with anybody there. Where i do disagree is when a person makes a potentially offensive comment regarding religion to a person they barely know. It's a stupid move and therefore it shouldn't be done. It'd be like walking into a catholic church for the first time with a satan costume on, making crude jokes aboug God. It's stupid and pointless. I don't understand how you can disagree with me there. [/FONT']
There's a big difference between actions and words. Making a comment about the Bible not being funny is a lot different than walking into a Catholic church not during a Halloween mass when the youth pastor says the kids can dress up for mass as the Devil. One is just an offhand comment that wasn't made to be insulting and the other is being conciously disrespectful. I'm sure you're old enough to know the difference.
I recall an instance where this dude on Jackass did that. A couple of people got pissed and punched at the guy. The guy was a moron for doing something like that....though, i still laughed. [/FONT']
Well I'm sure that reguardless of religious beliefs we can all agree that Jackass is hardly the moral standard that anyone should live by.
Having a sense of humor and laughing at jokes about your religion is one thing. Taking an offensive comment silently and simply turning the other cheek is another.
Didn't Jesus say that if someone spits on one cheek offer him the other? I could be wrong since I haven't picked up my Bible in a while. I think the idea of this is to not take yourself or your religion too seriously. Faith is meant to be picked apart and examined or else it shows that it isn't very strong. If your beliefs can't stand up to scrutiny then they aren't that strong. That's really all I have to say to this for right now. Jesus is coming! Look busy.
Sense of humor is not appropriate when discussing one's religion.
A sense of humor is the only thing that keeps an otherwise sane man from hanging himself- Voltaire That said I think relgion is probably one of the most hilarious things to ever be discusssed. Especially when you're dealing with the religion I was raised in. I mean the Catholic church banned using forks in the middle ages. I think it was the three pronged ones because they represented that lovely pitchfork that Satan always carried around. Then you have all that funny stuff about the Witches Hammer. Actually early Christian beliefs about witchcraft in general are pretty funny. One century it was considered blasphemy to believe that witches could fly then it was considered blasphemy to believe that witches couldn't fly. Finally you can't forget present day that the Catholic church is againt both birth control and abortion. Yes, I respect everyone's beliefs, but some things if you look back in history are really funny and need to be laughed at. If you want to have some real fun, google Fort Hood Open Circle and the Killeen Tabernacle Baptist church in Killeen Texas. Fort Hood Open Circle is a 'coven' (I'm using the term losely because I didn't have good times with a lot of these people and I don't think that all of them are appropriate examples of Wicca) for Pagan military personnel. Well, a few years prior to me moving to Texas there was this big to do involving the Killeen Blah blah blah Baptist church and the FHOC which actually got to the point of some of the pastors of that church bringing in loaded weapons so 'Warlocks wouldn't steal their children.' Now I don't know how much everyone knows about Wicca, but a warlock is an oath breaker not a male witch. And no self respecting Witch steals children. I saw that and nearly fell from my chair laughing.

I like threads like this. Anyways right now the funniest song I've heard is the Happy Song by Liam Lynch. I heard it when I was looking for Avatar episodes on You Tube and this is how the song goes: am really special cuz there's only one of me look at my smile, I'm so damn happy, other people are jealous of me when I'm sad and lonely, I like to sing this song it cheers me up and shows me that I won't be sad for long oh oh oh I'm so happy, I can barely breathe puppy dogs and sugar frogs and kittens, baby teeth watch out all you mothers, I'm happy, it's hardcore happy as a coupon for a $20 whore ha-ha-ha hah I'm really happy, I'm sugar coated me, happy, good, anger, bad, that's my philosophy Spoken: I can't do this, man. I'm not happy. I am really special, cuz there's only one of me Look at my smile, I'm so damn happy, other people are jealous of me These are my lovehandles, and this is my spout, but if you tip me over, then mama said knock you out I am special, I am happy, I am gonna heave welcome to my happy world, now get your **** and leave I am happy, I am good, I am... Spoken: I'm Outta Here! Screw You! It's even funnier when there are clips of Sokka from Avatar running around and saying things about a happy mushroom. And yes that is the same guy who Sings My United States of Whatever!

Saddam Hussein Sentenced to Death
It's amazing how sadistic people can become when dealing with 'evil' people, 'specially when that person'd never done anything that had even remotely affected said people. On that note, I find it kind of ironic that evil ol' Saddam is probably causing more people to part with their usual sense of morality in [his approaching] death than he ever did in life. Sure, Saddam probably does deserve his sentence, but as far as I care, that doesn't make it right. The death penalty in any form is uncivilised, but hanging is plain barbaric. If Bush was really serious about bringing Iraq around to the Western, 'civilised' way of doing things, he wouldn't be supporting this. The EU, on the other hand, have the right idea. Fo shaw.
Yeah, admittedly that was a little morbid. But did you catch what I had added after that quote?
Yes I know I'm morbid and it's not good karma to wish suffering on people. But in this case I'm sure karma will make an exception.
Besides I'm on the fence with the death penalty. Personally I think we should be busy trying to ressurect public humiliation and bring back the stocks and save the sterilized needles for lethal injections for child molesters and rapists and the like. While I know that Saddam was ruling all the way over in Iraq he did indirectly cause suffering thanks to America's very own White House Cowboy. If Iraq hadn't invaded Kuwait in 90' and then we didn't start the Gulf War in 91' then pull out and Saddam hadn't begun threatening George Herbert Walker Bush (George Bush Senior) then George W. Bush wouldn't have decided to add Iraq to his list of things to bomb and invade in 2003.To me it looks like everything is related. Like Gavin said the US commander in chief is very big on the death penalty. In fact when he was still govenor of Texas that state had the highest amount of inmates on death row and executions out of every other state in the nation with the death penalty. That's crazy even for a semi Catholic Democrat pro choice individual. So... should I go bring the Death Penalty thread back to life? -
1. What religion are you CURRENTLY following? If you don't have one, then why? I'm kind of following Catholicism again, but still infusing it with what I learned when I was practicing Wicca and what I learned from reading about Islam. So I guess I'm following Ecclectic beliefs 2. Why do you follow that religion? Parents, personal reasons, etc? Mostly because of my parents. My mom felt that she lost a connection with me when I was practicing Wicca because she never took the time to understand it. 3. Do you ever feel that people often critisize you because of these beliefs? When I was Wiccan I felt that a lot of the time people (EG my younger brother, co-workers who saw the pentacle I was wearing, my ex mother-in-law who felt I shouldn't practice because I wasn't the right kind of person for the religion) gave me a hard time. But now it's not too bad. 4. This one may spark a little bit of arguing: Do you believe that your religion is the one true religion? If so provide evidence. I don't believe that any religion is the one true religion. If one religion was the ONLY ONE, why would there be so many denominations and other religions? *

Saddam Hussein Sentenced to Death
ChibiHorsewoman replied to kenshinsbabe's topic in General Discussion
Besides, it's not like he just randomly picked people off the streets and tortured them to death... Most of the people he murdered with dissidents who threatened his government; maybe they were rallying people to new, radical ideas, or maybe they were plotting an assassination attempt, but he wasn't the wanton murdering machine he was made out to be.
Yeah, he just gassed minorities no harm there! Because as we all know minorities along with women, children and old people don't really matter in the big sceme of things. Yep, can you sense the sarcasm? Sadam may have not been responsible for the terror attacks and he was able to keep some control in his country but as other people have said, at what cost? He terrorized his own people from the day he came to power until the Fourth Infantry Division out of Fort Hood Texas (along with other divisions, but I was stationed at Ft.Hood at the time so I have to give a shout to 4th ID).started firing down on them in March 2003. Heck his sons tourtured the Iraqi soccer team when they lost games. People got shot for the sake of getting shot. So get your head out of your butt and look at the big picture. That said... I'm glad he's being hung especially if his neck doesn't snap immediately and he has to wait until he suffocates. Yes I know I'm morbid and it's not good karma to wish suffering on people. But in this case I'm sure karma will make an exception. I'm also shocked that I didn't post this story when it happened on Sunday morning. -

Abstinence Programs for adults?
ChibiHorsewoman replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
And if you think that?s bad some of the pharmacies and stores put condoms behind the counter so you have to ask for it instead of being able to get it and purchase it using one of the self-service check outs. So they make it harder for people who are self conscious about making such purchases. So some of us see this as another attempt by the government to try and tell people what to do instead of really giving them informed choices.
You're telliong me. One of the local supermarkets *cough* Tops *cough* up here in New York (Which is actually a rather liberal state) has their condoms locked up next to the pharmacy counter so some one has to know your personal life when you're getting protection. Now me, I have no problem if I had to go buy condoms and someone wanted to be nosey I'd be like 'Yeah, I'm having SEX! What are you doing tonight?' But that's me and I'm extroverted. I can imagine that someone who is more Puritanical than I am or not as blunt would be emberassed. I dodged a bullet with my graduation year (Class of '99!) I was in school during the Clinton administration and damn straight we learned about sex. We learned about protection, we learned about STDs, we learned that you should wait until you're ready. We were thankfully not told just say no. I think that this current administration does a terrible job of teaching kids about sex. I think everyone is hoping that someone else will tell their kids about sex so they don't have to do the job themselves. Did you know that the government in the US pulls funding for schools that teach anything besides condom failure and abstinence? Or that the Bush administration has authorized pharmasists to refuse to sell birth control pills if it's against their moral beliefs? Or that in 2004 North Dakota over turned Roe Vs Wade and right to life demonstrators shoot OBGYNs because they suspect that they perform abortions? And now I have gone off topic. Excuse me while I find something else to do. -
When I say New York, what do you think of?
ChibiHorsewoman replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Hm...you've been eating at the wrong places then, lol. But in any case, this reminds me of another thing which is not only does New York (Brooklyn specifically) have the best pizza in the states, but the most diverse selection of multi-cultural foods (this one is the boroughs combined, not just brooklyn) you'll ever find. If there is another city in the states (or North America for that matter) that has a larger selection (only 1 or 2 atm come to my head) i garauntee their quality isn't as good anyway. Manhatten alone has a plethora.
I agree. I think New York in general (Not just upstate or downstate) has the best assortment of multicultural foods and stores. We're a huge melting pot. YOu can't beat this state for diversity. And NEw York style Pizza Pwns (What does that mean exactly?) Chicago any day. Although Chicago style does beat out anything you can find in Killeen TExas. -
Abstinence Programs for adults?
ChibiHorsewoman replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
After I read the article I sent the link to two of my friends who are twenty-five like me and female. One of them lives in Canada the other lives in New York like I do. Both of them agreed with me that this has got to be one of the dumbest things ever created. I can't believe it's actually being considered. Shouldn't adults be allowed to make our own decisions about when we're going to have sex? The age groups listed for this program are perfectly capable of holding down jobs and going to college along with raising a child. I know this for a fact because I'm a single mom and my best friend was (technically still is because she's only engaged) and we both manage to take care of our kids (with a little help from family and the baby sitter) go to our jobs and contemplate going back to college. It's not that hard. Twenty somethings are quite capable of making rational dicisions, we don't need a right wing Christian extremist government telling us what to do. I have some far better ideas of what to do with the fifty million in funding to go to this assinine idea: Donate it to the victims of Katrina, Rita and that arnson related wild fire in California- They could certainly use it more Use it to fund the welfare system in states across the US. As a person who relies on this program (Even though I work dammit!) I know that they need some more people, preferably ones with better costumer service skills. Give it to me (Well yeah it's a long shot, but I wouldn't turn that money down.) Fund some after school programs in cities with a high Teenage pregancy rate so that they have something to do after school besides eachother. Really the possibilities are endless. You don't need to teach twenty somethings how to say no, you really just need to teach them how to use protection.
