OKay I heard this on one of the morning shows this morning and nearly died laughing. As if teaching soley abstinence to pre-teens and teens wasn't enough now the Bush administration has the bright idea to teach twenty- twenty-nine year olds how to just say no. (Hopefully while in a drunken stupor) The reasoning behind this? Well the rate of unwed mothers between the ages of twenty- twenty-four is just too damn high. Don't believe me? Read this: No really I wasn't joking or this: Abstinence being taught to adults? I think this is one of the dumbest ideas ever. Who ever decided that adults need to be taught how to say now is really... well I guess it's just something I should expect from the Bush Administration. So, does anyone else want to read and reply? I'm dying to hear what other people think.
Anyways, I'm really craving candy. There was NO discount candy at the store because it was ALL gone! I guess I should have rented a kid and went to a rich town.
Well my best friend and I would have willingly given you one of ours for a few houses. We both have two year old girls, my friend's went as a devil and mine went as a witch, and after a while neither of them wanted to walk from house to house so we had to carry them and their treat bags until we reached the next driveway. Then it rained. That was crap. It wasn't too bad though, I was in costume and my mom had insisted I bring along an extra bag so Abby (my daughter) didn't lose all her candy if she decided to dump her treat bag so at some houses people were giving me candy. I'll have to stop being lazy for a few minutes and load the pictures of my daughter in her halloween costume. It's so cute.

Country singer Keith Urban whose song 'Who wouldn't want to be me' mentions the states California and Tennessee and nothing about Australia. But I think we could blame that on his little rehab problem. Also Keith's wonderful wife, Nicole Kidman. I absolutely loved her wedding dress. -

I just realized something else that comes to my mind when I think of New York besides my home state, the Yankees, the Giants and the best damn pizza style ever. That song Istanbul by They Might Be Giants. There's that line; Even old New York was once New Amsterdam. Yeah, that comes to mind when I think of the Empire state. That and the little smiling sun in our flag and on our driver's liscenses. -
New York? I think of costly colleges, as well. Nonetheless, they're lovely. Hehe, I'm a fashionistical person-- love it all. Shwah.
I'd suggest trying an upstate school since the cost of living in general is cheaper upstate than it is downstate. SUNY (State University of New York) schools are very good. I live near SUNY Brockport and was accepted to SUNY Morrisville. Actually I think I may go back and see if I can re register there if I get my VESID stuff since Morrisville is a beautiful town and near Syracuse which is right smack in the middle between my family and friends(Rochester) and my other friends (Troy) But I got off topic now. Fredonia, Oswego and Medaille are very good. One of my cousins attends Fredonia for a design program so I think they may have what you want at a cheaper price than a downstate school. -

Does getting an epidural during labor count as a good time? Because if it does I have mine. If not well let me think. Okay, I'm just going to be really lame and say that anytime I get to hang out with any of my friends is the best time of my life because we all get really crazy. We never all get to hang out as much as usual because we all work and have kids and dumb stuff like that. So any time we can manage to hang out is good for me.

Heh, I'm on my third car, a bright red four door 2003 Olds Alero, which my mom actually considers my second car. The reasoning behind this I will reveal now. I got my driver's Liscence in November 2000- I was nineteen! Yes! My first first car was a ninety-three taupe four door Mazda Protege. It was really more trouble than it was worth and sat in my driveway a lot since it broke down more than it ran. Finally after hitting a guardrail in January '01 we traded that one in! My second car- which my mom considers my first car- was a nice bright blue ninety-five Ford Taurus. This car kicked butt even though the speedometer didn't really go past eighty-five and right before I moved to Texas the AC blew out and I had to get the engine fixed in 2002 because my ex blew a gasket driving too fast in Watertown. I didn't care. It had an automatic seat and my best friend had a Taurus as well. I miss that car, it got me all the way down to Texas and it had a Duo Maxwell bumpersticker on it. I had to get rid of it in 2004 because everything was going on it.

Maybe even the Thousand Islands. Okay so I honestly have no idea what New York City is like, but I can say this: Stay the hell away from Rochester. Last year our homicide rate beat out New York City. Heck, I'm planning on moving after I complete my job training. Troy here I come!Or maybe Syracuse since it's right between Troy and Rochester. -
Gender segregated classrooms? Yay or Nay?
ChibiHorsewoman replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Okay, building on what one local news station reported on Tuesday another local station did this report during the five o'clock news. Looks like there is some truth to the fact that boys and girls learn differently and girls we're kicking butt.
Evan Dawson (Rochester, N.Y.) -- Girls are not just competitive with the boys in school, they're beating them in nearly every subject. New research shows that boys struggle more with the classroom setting and some core subjects. Some believe the solution is to separate boys and girls into same-sex classes, even in public schools. At Mercy, an all-girls high school in Rochester, students don't have to worry about what boys think of them. Some of the young women at the top of Mercy?s senior class this year say that makes a huge difference. Senior Mary Kate Howard said, "There's people judging you always, but I think girls worry less about what other girls think than about what guys think." Ken Hilton, research director for Rush-Henrietta schools, said he has found that in all grades--from kindergarten through high school--girls are dominating boys in class grades. However, he has also found that the gender-gap disappears when it comes to standardized tests like the SATs. This finding suggests that girls are biologically better equipped for the classroom structure, especially at younger ages. "School and its norms are a large part of the gap that we call the ?achievement gap.? Girls are just better at school than boys," Hilton said. Hilton does not support separating public schools by gender, but he does suggest that some classes such as middle school English be separated by sex. That's because his research shows girls far out-performing the boys in English classes. The National Organization of Women recently criticized any plans to separate by gender. Albert Roesser, President of NOW in Rochester, said, "Gender separation is gender discrimination. Separate is unequal. School is the workplace for children. Separating our daughters and sons does not prepare them for the real world." But Mercy students say such an idea is more about learning than about gender and it has helped them succeed. Mercy Senior Kelsey Abelein said, ?Girls are trying to overcome a stereotype of a typical schoolgirl who isn't as smart as the guys. I feel the girls are outgrowing that and getting past it."
I have been to the upstate (known to us in the boroughs as "upstate" since we are south NY).
Well, I'm from Rochester NY, my brother calls it Roc City... I have no clue as to why. Anyways, we in Western, Central and Upstate New York refer to you guys as Down State so don't worry. Actually people in Western New York refer to anything East of the Hudson as down state. If you don't live in New York you really may not understand. It's just that since the Hudson pretty much defines how far some of the Congress men and women from New York go when they go 'upstate'. Come to think of it that could be why I like Hilary Clinton so much. She's not only gone to Syracuse and Rochester... she's gone all the way west to Buffalo! I think of accents when I think of New York city. I used to work with a guy who was born in the Bronx then moved to Brooklyn and moved up here when he was fourteen. He still has a really strong accent. But then I have a friend who lives in Brooklyn Coney Island and she doesn't have an accent at all. And finally I have a friend from Troy who tawks like a true New Yawker. What really gets me is that everyone not from New York expects everyone from New York state to sound like Rosie O'Donnell. For example, my friend in Oregon put me on the phone with his brother once and it took me twenty minutes to convince him I'm from New York because I don't have 'the New Yawk accent' Another thing that a lot of people should think of when they think of New York City is the Subway Series and the major rivalry between the Mets and Yankees Fans. Trust me it can get down right brutal. Which reminds me: BKStyles, I have to kick your butt soley on the fact that you mentioned Shea Stadium but forgot about 'The House that Ruth Built ' AKA Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. -

[/FONT']
So.. you're dressing up as a military bell person for Halloween then? Sounds fun. Just kidding! Military humor... my father is retired Air Force. Anywho. I finally got my daughter's costume tonight. She's going to be a witch. This outfit is so cute! It's got a witch hat with an iredecent leopard print on it, and a skirt with all this different colored fabric and the top is purple and has a cat on it. And to top it all off she has this cute little trick-or-treat bag that my parents got her in Las Vegas that actually goes with her costume. Yes I am an insane parent of a two year old. I'll have to post a picture of my daughter when she wears her costume. Oh... I'm dressing up too, but I haven't decided as what yet. I still have my wedding dress I think I could either tinker with that and go all corpse bride or use the costume (yes costume) I wore to my cousin's wedding back in May (Yes wedding) and be a Renesscance lady. Either way I look young enough (yes I'm vain) so I can get away with getting candy as long as I'm not working B shift.
To say it quickly, it don't think it's going to hurt to try. I'm pretty sure the kids won't die from "sex starvation," lol.
And if it does hurt anyone or some kids die from 'sex starvation' at least it's only Monroe County in Western New York. And we don't have a large enough population to cause much of a dent. Okay so we have the third largest city in the State, but like who cares? Well, the school districts start this next month on the twenty-fourth of November because of the new marking period. They have a two day grace period because Thanksgiving in the US falls on the twenty-fifth so even though this project starts on the twent-fourth no one will be trying to see the results until at least December, maybe January since we also have winter break. Honestly I can't wait to see how this whole thing works out. -
Hot damn do we really have time? Let's see getting married and trusting the guy I got married to really screwed me up. Case in point I didn't know that for the nearly three years of our marriage he was seeing another woman on the side and that she knew about me. And now the divorce and custody battles are continuing to take a toll on me. I'm not really allowed to talk about everything because who knows what will be used in court, but here's the thing he was emotionally abusive towards me for most of our marriage and continued to be that way in the months leading up to the divorce. February '05 he threatened to divorce me while he was still in Iraq. March '05 he said he wanted to try and work things out so I drove half way across the country with our then five month old daughter at his request. April '05 he stayed up in New York with me and my parents for an entire month acting like everything was fine, we even went up to Ft. Drum to check out housing. May '05 two weeks after he got back to Texas he said he wanted a divorce but was still acting like everything was okay. September '05 a day after our divorce is finallized I find out he's already engaged. February '05 I get emails from his new wife claiming to be attatched to my daughter and wanting to be allowed to see her while her father is in Afghanistan (her father meaning my ex) May '06 I get summoned for a visitation hearing by my daughter's paternal grandmother who prior to this has never shown any interest in my daughter. July '06 both the day of my grandma's funeral and a few days before her graveside service I received two harassing emails from my ex's wife. And the fun ain't over yet because we still have to determine custody and visitation of our now two year old daughter. Basically being a nice person and not believing one of my friends down in Texas screwed me up.... can I have a cookie and a carton of ice cream?

It's sad when people think only of NYC when New York is mention...there is an entire state ya know! *pot calling kettle black* I know I am guilty of this too. :animeswea Edit: LOL CHW, when I am visiting the east coast and say I am from Washington I have to say "state, not DC" since everyone assumes I mean DC.
Hey, can I be part of the hawtness as well? Because whenever I tawk to my friend in Troy (outside of Albany) I end up tawking like she does. Man now I need some cawfee. You would not believe how many people do that though! When I moved to Killeen,Texas from my area of New York my friend asked me how I could stand living in such a big city. Also my mom gets that a lot when she travels for work and tells the people she's training where she's from. She actually has to explain that New York is 'L' shaped and she lives in the Western part of the state. And it's funny you should mention that you have to explain you're from Washington state. I actually got into a debate with a guy back at one of my old jobs who was convinced that the Washington Redskins were from Washington state! -
It's a pity that the school-system in that state is taking a step back on the path of equal rights, because no matter how much the officials talk about "equal opportunities in terms of different learning styles", it's just not going to happen. The girls will eventually be taught how to be good housewives, cleaners, cooks and mothers, while the boys will concentrate on sports, handicrafts and sciences. That's what the school-system was like over a hundred years ago, so I'm thinking the history is starting to repeat itself... PS. Speaking about girls distracting the boys attention in elementary school levels is both sexist and perverted. Little boys don't see girls that way, not until they reach puberty, and even then they don't become brainless wankers drooling after every female. Well, not all of them.
Ok two things: 1.) It's only Monroe county (which is the county I live in). The Gender segregation is purely by choice in each school and school district. I do know that Monroe High School in the Rochester City School district is doing the segregated classes. They're not allowed to violate the section IX ruling about gender discrimination passed in the 60's. Also my mom went to an all girl's high school back in the late 60's- early 70's (and if she reads this post she's lible to kill me in my sleep :animeswea ) as far as I know all her classes were the same as what I took in my high school. Heck one of the nuns (it was a Catholic school) even included a sports question as a bonus for one of the test questions. And one of the members of the 2004 US Womens Olympic soccer team attended an all girls high school here. So I am hoping that this isn't the case. 2.) The schools considered for this experiment in Monroe County are all middle and high schools. Not primary schools. This is around the time when boys and girls are discovering eachother. That said, James you're right. Someone will always be distracted whether it involves talking with your fellow classmates or your signifigant other. Heh, and now I have an interview at one of the major all boy's schools here in Monroe County. This should be fun. Wish me luck. -

Then to top it all off at the end he finds out that the girl he'd been talking to was brain dead and was going off the machines that day.
I can't remember any more.

*starts to sing it's a small world* I know what you mean by a small voice actor world. Examples: The first season of Bishoujo Senshi SailorMoon: Keiko Han did the voices of Beryl and Luna Also in the first season and part of the second season Araki Kae did the voice of Tsukino Usagi/ Sailor Moon when Katono Mitsiushi was sick. Then she also did the voice of Chibi Usa/Chibi Moon/ Small Lady. As well as the voice of Miaka Yuki from Fushigi Yugi. Ogata Megumi the lady who voiced Cooan in SailorMoonR also did the voice of Ten'ou Haruka/ Sailor Uranus as well as various Daimon and youma in the first season. The people who did the voices of Fiore and the Kisinian flower in the Japanese version of the SailorMoonR movie also did the Japanese voices of Tamahome and Hongo Yui in Fushigi Yugi. Okay, not really anime, but one of my friends is convinced that Mark Hauser who does the voice of Prince Sky in the RAI english dub of Winx Club is the same guy who did the voice of Buster in the Arthur Cartoon. American voice actors also have the whole Repetetive thing going on for American dubbed cartoons Lisa Ortiz who voiced the English Lina Inverse from Slayers now does the Voices of Musa, Icy, and Mitzi in the 4Kids dub of Winx Club. There are a lot of repeat voices in that dub, so really don't get me started.

Personally I'm glad that girl didn't die. This way she gets to relive this moment for the rest of her pathetic life where she killed the mother of three children and seriously injured a six year old child just because she couldn't get laid. My God how bad is your life when you have to go and kill yourself for not being able to have sex? Or more to the point, how shallow are you when you feel that ramming your vehicle into someone elses in order to try and kill yourself because someone won't sleep with you? Doesn't killing yourself because you can't have sex seem stupid to anyone else besides myself? I mean come on, if you kill yourself you won't be able to have sex anyways. That girl should have either bought herself a damn vibrator or done something to relive her urges rather than go out in public and try to kill herself. Sorry, but I'm feeling no sympathy for her. I feel bad for the other woman's family and her children though. -

Land of animal freaks. Can you really blame me? You guys have platapoose (spelling) which are these little mammals with duck bills that lay eggs! Kangaroos that give birth to their young before they are fully developed and their babies crawl into their pouches to finish growing (Did I get that right?) and Koalas. It's probably a very nice place to visit. It would confuse the heck out of me because it'd be near one hundred in December and I'm from Upstate New York where we have -10 degrees and about five feet of snow at that time. But it would be nice to visit. Seriously that's all I can think of. Well that and Pyro from X-Men. -
Okay I have to start this subject because next month the public schools in my county (Monroe) in upstate New York are going to try out gender segregated classes. I'm not sure what their reasoning in this is. There are three schools in my area that are either all girls-Our Lady of Mercy where Abby Wombac who played on the 2004 US Women's Soccer team graduated from. And Nazareth Academy where my mom and her mom graduated from. And McQuaid Jesuit which is an all boys school. But those are private schools so maybe that's where the Monroe County School board is getting this idea. Well here's the news article from one of my local stations:
It's being called the biggest change to co-ed classrooms in more than 30 years. The Bush administration is giving public schools more latitude to teach boys and girls separately. Some education officials say students learn better in a single-sex environment. The U.S. Department of Education is changing the rules on how it enforces the Title Nine Landmark Anti-Discrimination Law. Starting next month, local schools will have the ability to create same-sex classes, grades, or even entire schools. Single-sex classes have been in session at Our Lady of Mercy High School since 1928. Principal Vilma Goetting has been in the education field for nearly 40 years. She believes the U.S. Department of Education is making a wise decision to give public schools more flexibility. ?I truly believe in the single sex-education, particularly at the middle school and high school level.? Goetting says when it comes to boys and girls, ?They do learn differently and they think differently and they may look at the same thing from a different perspective.? The changes affect elementary and secondary education and would allow schools to separate genders if school leaders believed it offered educational benefits. In all cases, single-sex enrollment would be voluntary. Students and parents we spoke with at Monroe High School are ok with the idea. Ninth grader Israel Headley feels same-sex classes would mean less distraction in the classroom. ?I think it'd be better because you'd have more focus in the classroom like not looking at a lot of females.? Officials at Mcquaid Jesuit High School know the benefits of same-sex education. ?When you look at the United States, one of our concerns is what's the best for students? I think we have to be realistic that there are different learning environments that best suit students. Principal Bill Hobbs says there's no doubt, boys and girls learn differently. ?What I want to see is equal opportunities, but in terms of learning styles. Hobbs hopes some public schools will take advantage of the choice now being given by the Department of Education. ?I think we can't be afraid of experimentation in that regard, saying what?s going to be best for the future generations.? The new regulations take effect on November 24th. Not everyone is happy about the decision. Critics say it will create sex discrimination in schools. We spoke with Rochester City School District officials and they said the district will definitely consider single gender classes.
I'm wondering if it will work out better or worse in the long run. I did attend public school in a co-ed environment and I don't believe it effected me negatively. And in the real world you can't really have gender specific work areas. You have to learn how to work with men and women. So in some ways this would hurt if it was done long term. At least in my opnion. But I want to know what other members think. Especially if anyone has attended an all girls or an all boys high school.
