I win this thread. Yes, that is a copy of the CD-i Zelda: Wand of Gamelon and some Ocarina of Time action figures. With a shelf full of Nintendo Power magazines in the background.
*starts singing Hail to the Geek* Really, that's all I can think of as a reply to this post. And it's probably true. I'm just going to go now because I'm not worthy. -
Preface: This is not a thread on whether or not you celebrate Halloween. If you don't, don't post. It's not the Devil's Birthday; it originated as the Pagan celebration of the end of summer (Samhain). .
Actually Samhain (pronounced Sow-in or close to it) is the Celtic New Year, not the celebration of the end of summer. That would be Lamas when you celebrate the Harvest. I forgot the other celebration. And Samhain is when the veil between the living and the dead is the thinnest and a time to honor your ancestors. Anyways back to the subject at hand. Yes I celebrate Halloween, the best I can. I seem to usually end up working that night. Which bites because I would love to dress up and take my daughter trick or treating. But hey, second shift pays better and I need money more than candy. I am dying to have a Halloween party. Maybe next year when my life isn't all screwed up. I have a cos play idea that I want to try out. Oh well, at least I still have my kid to dress up.

Okay I'm posting about Evanescence while listening to the Dixie Chicks' third album. Can someone say contrast? Yeah, I bought the Open Door CD when it came out. What can I say I liked the song Call Me When You're Sober. It made me think of this one guy I know and well, it was perfect. Plus I already own Fallen so I needed to add to my collection. I didn't care much for the video to the song, it didn't seem to have anything to do with the song. And don't flame me for not understanding art. I just didn't get what Amy Lee running around in a ball gown had to do with a guy leaving her because he'd rather get pissed. (That'd be drunk according to my fanfic buddy from Wales) I like the rest of the CD, well Lithium is a bit too slow for me, but I think everything else fits fine.

Okay as stated in my signature I am a fan of Desperate Housewives. I am such a fan that I created a club about it on here. So I'm wondering who else enjoys watching the show because it's now on it's third season and I'm still loving it (And wanting to hit Eddie with a fence post on Susan's behalf) What's your favorite episode if you have one and have been watching it for a while. What characters do you love and which characters do you love to hate? Are there any episodes that made you tear up? Yes, this may be my sad attempt to get back in working order on the site, but really you know this is a good topic. As for me I think my favorite episode is where Susan backed over Edie with her van. I probably would have done the same thing given half a chance. Okay maybe not since that would be attempted vehicular manslaughter, but that's part of the show's draw (at least to me) since it's so over the top in so many ways. The episode that made me tear up was in last season when Carlos and Gabriel lost that baby they thought they adopted because the mother went back on the adoption before it was finalized. That struck home because
right now I'm in the middle of a 'lovely custody battle
and also I'm adopted. I swear I was crying into the weather report on the local news. My favorite character is Gabby because she is just so over the top in so many ways. Like last week's episode where
she stuffed herself into a suitcase. Which was after she slept with the guy who she had been sleeping with in the first season who was getting married... to the woman whose father owned the hotel they were at!
Although at times I feel I identify with either Susan or Lynette. Finally I love to hate Eddie Britt. I swear to God that woman's character is quite evil. Just look at what she's up to now. Okay. Well I have to go now because there are other things I really should be doing. But I would love to see your comments on here.

Oh Lord. I don't know if I can compete with the lot of you and really I am too busy to see if I can or not. Anyways I buy dolls. No really. I buy dolls from a crappily dubbed TV show and then take them out of the box and display them in my room. I even redid the hair of one of them since I didn't like it prior. So now she has a hair style like Miaka Yuki or Ten Ten depending on who you know better. I don't know if that's geeky enough or not. But I thought it was at least worth posting since i haven't been here in a while. -
how do i get paid you ask? well thats easy first you guys wake up and work your butts off and every two weeks to a month you get your pay check then you get tax and that money comes into my bank account every two weeks. thats how it works when your in the military. so please put in that extra hour or two for me cause although im in iraq right now i could use a bigger pay check
Hey I know you hate it and this war isn't very popular, but thanks just the same. Anyways I'm putting in five ten hour days from 4PM to 2:30AM Monday through Friday. Then Saturday it's either 2:30PM-11:PM or 2:30PM-8PM depending on how much needs to be found and shipped. Being familiar with the military I know that's not a lot of hours and even my brother who works for Frito Lay works more than me during the busy times of the year, but let me tell you what I do that I don't get paid for. I am the mother of a two year old, so Monday through Friday after getting home at three in the morning I have to wake up around 8AM get myself dressed, get my daughter dressed then drive her to the babysitter which is about fifteen minutes away. After that I go home, go back to bed then wake up do some laundry or some grocery shopping drive to one of the local libraries since my mom works from home and unless she's out of town I can't use the home computer. Then around 3PM I get ready for my twenty minute drive to work. When I leave work at 2:30 I call my friend in OR and make him talk to me until I pull in the drive way of my house. then go straight to bed.
[B']Well....uh...there isn't a pic yet...So should I go ahead and post one, or should we wait longer?
Well if you have a good one go ahead and post it. -
It's really not the chicken or the egg. Capital Punishment has existed for quite a while, and it has done nothing to stop homicide. Capital Punishment is obviously doing nothing to stop homicide.
I'm just staring at that graph and noticing that one state that doesn't have the death penalty is not on there, New York. And last year there seemed to be a rise in homicides. Rochester, which is the third largest city in New York state out ranked New York City in 2005. I'm not sure if that has much to do with your graph. But I think that maybe issuing a curfew (my city is trying that) for minors or employing more police officers may help. Also more after school programs.
-
For the last time, the death penalty is not a deterrent.[/B']
Well, not for everyone. But one of the accomplisses (Sp?) to this shooting in New York State told the judge that his friend had told him he was going to shoot a troop because New York doesn't have the death penalty. So now the guy shot a trooper, the trooper is dead and this guy is going to cost NYS taxpayers money by watching TV and getting college degrees. So, who's to say that maybe for some people the fact that there is a death penalty makes someone think twice about commiting a crime. Maybe there would be less rapes if rapist were given harsher penalties as well.
-
I think we should bring back public humiliation. That alone could reduce crime. I mean think of it, you'd be sitting in the stocks or walking around wearing a sign displaying your crime and people would be allowed to point, laugh and throw rotten produce at you. That said I am on the fence about the death penalty. Yes I believe that if it were in place in more states it would be a deterant to an individual who would otherwise consider commiting a violent crime. But then I think of how violent Texas is and they have one of the highest execution rates in the country. So I'm still not sure how I feel about the death penalty. I just think that there needs to be something to deter people from becoming violent enough to be considered for the death penalty.

Hey I can actually reply to this thread saying that I have a job! I am happy... and sleep deprived. I work at Coopervision, they make contact lenses. I work in distribution and basicaly my job is to pick the product off the shelf and then send it down to shipping. It's relatively easy work and I make $8.85 an hour. Plus right now they have us working five ten hour days then a six or eight hour day on Saturday so I make time and a half for overtime. Plus they have a $50 attendance bonus each week added to each paycheck as long as you pull the nearly 60 hour work week. So far the only bad thing (Aside from the fact that I can't wear my Happy Bunny t-shirts) is that the breaks and lunch are sporadic since they want to keep people on the floor at all times and since the building I work at is new they're still trying to sort some things out. And my job involves standing and walking for 10 hours.
I've done extensive searches in google, well worded searches, and found nothing. I looked up arabian sea wildlife, but only vertebrates were on the list on animals. I have no info on the creature except for its description and the place I saw it. If only I can find a complete listing of species both invertebrates and vertebrates found in the arabian sea.
Where abouts on the Arabian sea? My geographic knowledge of the Middle east is rather limited, but I'm willing to help. I majored in conservation when I did attend college so I have got to be able to think of something.

I don't know if this question has been asked recently, but after yesturday where a man who intentionally killed a New York State trooper reportedly did it because New York State doesn't have the death penalty I figured I'd go ahead and start this thread. I'm curious to see how both the veteran and new members feel about the death penalty. I feel a bit divided on the death penalty. Right now as I've said New York doesn't have it, but we have in the past and I believe it may have deterred some people from commiting crimes that would have warrented it. But I also realize that even if the person is on death row they are still allowed to request numorous appeals, and that there are more minorities executed than whites which makes it unfair. I'm not sure what else to say right now since I'm a bit pressed for time and I have to get ready for a job interview in a bit. So maybe some other people can share their views and I'll get back to everyone on this subject tonight.
And, just for kicks, my mother stays home. That's a blast, right? Staying in a huge house all day with my 4-year-old brother, Edzilla?
I have a friend who is a stay at home mom... she has three kids ages 8, nearly 4 and nearly one. No thank you I need to get out of my house for a while. Being a stay at home mom involves too much work and you don't get much recognition for it. So I give some props (tired ok) to your mom because she works just as hard as I do.

And your mommy too just to be fair. I seem to remember a few years ago we had a thread like this and it generated some conversations which were interesting so I decided that by the insanity vested in me by the state of Confusion I'd do it again. Since we're already talking about jobs that we have or had I figure we can discuss our parent(s) jobs as well. Hey who knows, maybe someone will find what someone's parents do interesting. Well here goes nothing.... My father works for one of the largest grocery store chains in Western New York- Wegmans. He's head of receiving there. What he does is he gets the orders of stock that the store ordered and keys them in... at least that's what I think he does. I know he goes to meetings at the beginning of the month or bi monthly where they try out some new recipes for their Menu magazine as well. But I really don't know exactly what he does. On the side to make a little extra money my dad also cuts lawns for a lady who lives across from where my great-aunt's house is and my mom's cousin's daughter. My mom's job is a bit harder for me to explain. She's a computer program trainer for this company called FIT (Food Information training) she works from home and makes more than my dad. But it's not easy, she has to sometimes work over time and start earlier than she needed to. Plus there's a lot of traveling involved and sometimes the plane gets delayed or a goose flies into an engine or something. So, what about everyone else?
I go to school full time and work half time. The part time job I have is at McDonalds. The best part of the job is the money (of course) and also the half price deal on all the menu except for the dollar menu. What really sucks about it is that there are some managers that I absolutely hate working with and there are sometimes really rude customers. Oh yeah, I hate working the breakfast shifts. That is the most annoying of all.
Arg! I hated working at McDonald's period! There are so many people there who have way too much time for drama.. case in point the forty year old woman who worked cash resgister with my best friend because I worked in pit. She went off on me once for putting the fries in the fryer! Well duh I thought that's where they went. Oh and did I mention that I was pregnant when I worked there? My boss would only let me go to the bathroom once a day and I worked a three hour shift. Needless to say I and my friend who was seven months along at the time complained.... Oh and after four months I quit, $6.25 an hour wasn't quite worth the drama. But hey two fast food chains down two to go. Hmm what do I do to get paid? Well I just got let go from my most recent temp job, but I do get $475 a month in child support and I get food stamps. And right now I'm trying to get a new job so it's not like I'm one of those stereotypical welfare people, I'm one of those welfare people who thinks we actually need something called a working wage. I'm also trying to go through VESID to take a class in Phlebotomy, but the psychologist through VESID can't see me until the seventh of November! So right now it's just a lot of temp jobs. I even applied at the Marriot for a housekeeping position and I hate to clean!
If you count the typical "blow out the candles and make a wish" thing as a tradition, then yes, that's my tradition. 'Cept the cake is ice cream cake, seeing as how I hate traditional birthday cake.
Hey I get ice cream cake too. But I like regular cake as well. One of my friends who lives in Quebec gets something called Gardineir for his birthday.... That sounds good too. Man I need to stop talking about cake... actually I shouldn't because I have to go order one for Saturday. I have another two birthday stories to share one is mine and one is my daughter's... the second one is like the birthday story Panda had posted... because it was my daughter's birth... so it was her birthday. Okay well I turned twenty-five this year and we went out to the King and I- a Thai resturaunt in my area. That was good, really good. I tried to feed Abby tofu and she actually ate some... Anyways as it's tradition for my mom's family (my mama, papa aunt Marty (mom's younger sister), aunt Kathy (Mom's older sister) and uncle Dave (mom's older sister's husband)) to come over my aunt Marty brought the ice cream cake. Well my mom had gone up to the grocery store to get me some birthday cards and my aunt Marty arrived with the cake (and my Dixie Chicks CD! and a card from my cousin that said: 1.) Forget about the past you can't change it 2.) Forget about the present, I didn't get you one.) and we left the cake out to thaw out a bit. So it's July and warm out and my mom hasn't gotten back from the grocery store yet because she has high standards for humorous cards and the cake is starting to melt. My mom finally gets back and my parents get the bright idea to put twenty-six candles on the cake, one for each year I've been alive plus one for good luck. Nice idea right? Well it would be, but they had to light them too. So the cake is melting all over the kitchen table while my family sings 'Happy Birthday to you" and I'm expected to blow out the candles. Well I did, but not before laughing at the melted cake. Really they may as well have set the whole thing on fire instead of bothering to put candles on it. The second story isn't as involved. I had been in labor for five real hours- I don't count the first twelve because the contractions didn't hurt that much- when my daughter's head finally crowns (is that what you call it?) As my OBGYN is saying that she sees the head I hear my ex whine: Eww I think something got on my shoes! All I can think of between the encouragement of my doctor and family is the fact that I'm almost done pushing an object the size of a toaster out of an opening the size of a tampon, I have had an epidural shot right in my back and I haven't eatten in twenty-four hours and you're whining about your shoes instead of being a proper birthing coach? Thank God for my mom and aunt Kathy! And good riddence. Oh and Panda. My mom would really sympathize with you and your brother. She's a year and nine days younger than her older sister and she feels like everyone forgets her birthday since it's right after her sisters. There have been occasions where they've had joint parties.

How did you come up with your internet/screen name ?
ChibiHorsewoman replied to corpseman's topic in General Discussion
Heh I almost forgot about my AIM screen name, CrazyKaliGirl81 is a bit hard to understand unless you know me so let me break it down: Crazy: Well in some ways I am I guess. Well not certifiable mind you, but sometimes I think I'm perceived as crazy. Kali: The Hindu Goddess of Life, Death Destruction and Rebirth. Sometimes I think of her as my patron saint. She's a multi-faceted individual just like me. Please don't assume that the Kali is a mispelling of Cali which would mean I'm from California. Because I'm from New York and proud of it. Girl- Self explanitory. Woman wouldn't sound correct. At least I don't think so. 81: I'm twenty-five years old, I was born on July 24th, it's 2006. Do the math. I hope that helped anyone who has ever seen my AIM screen name and thought something seemed odd. -
How did you come up with your internet/screen name ?
ChibiHorsewoman replied to corpseman's topic in General Discussion
Hi. my name is Chibi Horsewoman and this is how I came up with my name (I feel like I'm in one of those AA meetings) Well the word Chibi is the Japanese word for small. I am not small in any real sense of the word, but I am shorter than my ex husband and he used to call me Chibi. That was before he thought up Cheebs which he has thankfully dropped as I have ordered him to either call me Megan or Ms. Donnelly. Horsewoman is self explanitory right? Well maybe not since I think some people may think it's some fanfic character which is a horse woman. I used to ride a lot. Right now I can't afford it, but I hope to start up again real soon. As you can see my screen name is rather boring. But I have no idea what I'd change it to. -
Birthday traditions? We don't really have one. We just go out to eat on the person's birthday then my mom's family will come over. Yeah boring. Do you want to hear a birthday story? Okay hmm, let me think. Well there was the time that I had a sleepover birthday and one girl froze another girl's bra and they threw grapes. It got so crazy that I just went up stairs and slept in my room. Then there's my twenty-first birthday where my friend took me out for an early dinner and we had some mixed drinks and I thought I had gotten drunk.I didn't though

What's in your car, purse or wallet
ChibiHorsewoman replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Wow some people have more things in their stuff than I do. Car Update I had some time to kill before I went back to work yesturday and decided to see if I dropped my mom's cell phone under the passenger seat of my car. Immagine my surprize when I found the first DVD of SailorMoonSuperS under there instead. I've also found that I have tent poles, duck shaped candles, goggles for something or other from a kevlar helmet, small toys, a noise maker from two New Years eves ago. and the assembly instructions for a bike rack that my ex has in the trunk of my car. Hmm what's in my wallet? I'm a slob but here's the run down: EBT card- Yes I'm on Welfare, I get food stamps to pay for groceries. I also work. This EBT card has what may be the best picture I've ever had on a photo ID. Too bad I need to change it since my name is wrong. New York State ID Card- Truely horrendous picture of me in my fifth month of pregnancy on it. Interim NYS Driver's License- I only got my DL back a month ago. Card for someone from VESID Eleven cents I hardly carry cash on me although a few days ago I had five dollars in dimes. Debit Card- this is how I pay for things Wegman's Shoppers Club card- NYS Works card for the computers at The NYS department of labor The reciept from my car repair and inspection Purse A watch- It was my grandma's and I like it, but it's too tight my wallet My mom's cell phone- yes, she knows I have it. Coupon for a free Victoria's Secret very Sexy lip gloss. My car key and keychain A dime tampons- if you need to ask why you're not a woman. A crap load of pennies A packet of Crystal Light on the go Lemonade flavor A pack of Big Red gum my birth certificate Maybelline Shiny-licious lipgloss in strawberry tart Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip gloss in Piece of Cake four pens Excedrine Sinus A small bottle of Victoria's Secret lotion in Amber Romance- My hands get really dry at work. I think that's it.
