1. I really hate it when people always just put "rock" for things like this. You can't just say rock. At least add metal, because it's so much different... I totally agree with you Jake of Bodom.
2. Seriously though.....I don't know how it works usually, but I know at my high school the popular kids are usually the really funny people, really hot chicks, or good musicians. I'd like to think I'm sorta popular, not that it really matters to me. Since I'm guitarist/singer for my band a lot of people know me through that, and popularity is basically how many people know you, right?
3. Well, when you're young and a girl, chest size would play a pretty big role.
4. I'm weird. I have the most absolute pathetic phobia. So many people are scared of me (especially my little sister's friends) because I'm so morbid and anti-social. Some people even think I worship the devil (I don't). So I've got this big mean image that people have for me and everybody thinks I'm so mean and tough, but I still have this one stupid little fear. Dancing. I would rather be caught dead then go to a school dance. First of all, I can't dance, second of all, It just scares the crap out of me. I seriously would rather die than dance. I'm not afraid of the dark, or heights, or close spaces, or bugs, or even death, but I'm scared to death of dancing. Pretty pathetic, huh? One other thing: I sort of have a fear of pills. I have to take like three pills a day (which I call my "crazy pills") and I really hate that too. I can't explain that one, I just really hate taking pills to the point of fear. Maybe I think my kidneys will explode or something, I dunno.....
5. I was really looking forward to "Lullabies That Paralyze" by Queens of the Stone Age but that just came out. White Stripes are releasing their new cd pretty soon, and I also heard that the Distillers and Red Hot Chili Peppers are coming out w/ a new cd soon, but I'm not sure. I also was told that AC/DC is recording right now, but I doubt that's true.
6. I wouldn't be able to put them in a particular order, but here are some of my favorites: -Metallica (of course, wayyyyy too popular though) -Mastadon (I love the music, just hate the singing) -Iron Maiden (I liked em best with their original singer) -Judas Priest (just got their new cd, and they still rock! Rob Halford is god) -Slipknot (their second cd is best) -Dimu Borgir (they're pretty cool with their armor and stuff) -Fear Factory (I love them, but some of their songs are just too techno-ish) -Nine Inch Nails (maybe they're not metal, but I'm putting em here) -Drowning Pool (I really like their singing) -Testament (They changed a lot over the years, but one of my favorites) -Helloween (one of the coolest speed-metal bands) -Slayer (I like the fact that they're so anti-religious cause so am I) -Bleeding Through (I heard them for the first time recently, pretty good) -Megadeth (I do feel sorry for Dave Mustaine and the whole Metallica thing) -Pantera (Last but not least, Pantera may be my favorite metal band)
7. METALLICA!!! It was the coolest fricken thing. Godsmack opened for them, and they were really good, but Metallica just blew me away. Their live show is so powerful. The crowd was crazy. It was probably the best concert of my life, I just hope I can see 'em again one day.......before they retire.
8. First of all, I cannot believe some of the stuff I've seen here as for overrated. Sure Metallica is one of the most popular bands ever, but that's for a very good reason. They're probably the only band that has been able to slightly tweak their music bit by bit to stay popular, without it sucking. Their songs are extremely deep and I say James Hetfield is one of the best songwriters ever. They're definitely not obsessed with money. Trust me, they've already got more money then they'll ever be able to spend, and yet, they're still making music and touring. That should say something. And Slipknot? Sure they're very popular, but they are an extremely talented band, and they have very good lyrics too, not just some generic, "Kill, kill, kill, ****, kill, kill, kill, Satan, Anti-Christ, kill, kill, stuff." Also Jimi Hendrix (my idol). The fact that he WAS such a good guitarrist should be enough, but he was a great singer, and his lyrics were just as good as any other band of his time. Anyways, now that that's out of my system: Overrated 1. Guns N Roses I never even liked their music much. Appetite for Destruction was the only reason they became so popular, and that wasn't that great of an album. A few one hit wonders, and the rest of it sucked. And now there's Velvet Revolver, who I think sucks too. and is played on the radio way too much. 2. AC/DC One of my favorite all-time bands, yet I still think they are way too popular. I never really liked them as much with Brian Johnson, I think their golden days were with the late, great Bon Scott, one of the greatest singers of all time. I think their best album was definitely Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, and I also think Back in Black is way too over hyped. But I still love you Angus. No, not really. 3. No Doubt I think Gwen Stefani is a very talented singer, but just not a good band. A lot of their songs sound the same, and for some reason they just bore me. I think this band did have some great potential, if you hear their remake of "Oi to the World", you'll know what I mean. They could have been a great punk band, there is way too few good punk bands with a female singer. 4. Green Day Way too popular. They owe most of their popularity to their near-perfect timing in a world where grunge was dying and it was time for something new. Almost every one of their songs sounds like another one of their songs, and most of their lyrics are stupid, some funny, but most stupid. I have to admit, they are the only band that could make a hit song about yo-yo's, or whackin off. (Longview!) 5. The Ramones Geez, another band I really like. Well, I know they were the first punk band and all, so they were sorta revolutionary, but even if you're a diehard fan of them, you have to admit that all their songs sound the same. 6. Rancid I don't really like them much anymore. They used to be better, but with age grew image, and I think they're a lot more "pop-ish" than they used to be. Plus it seems like they try way too hard on that voice, which definitely isn't natural. 7. Sex Pistols I like them too, but they're still not that great of a band. Most of their popularity came more from what they did than the music they made. People just love the fact that they're all rebellious and violent and stuff, but their music just wasn't that great. 8. American Idols What is it, like season 4? Ugh. Not one of them came out with a single good song, and not one of them deserves the popularity they get. Although, there is finally one cool singer this season, Bo Bice, and I'm totally rooting for him this year. He looks like a metalhead, and he's in some band, but he is an incredible singer. Underrated 1. Led Zeppelin I know they already are extremely popular, but I think they deserve even more. They set the stage for so many great bands, it was more thanks to them than any other band that Heavy Metal ever came to be. They have incredible lyrics, incredible riffs, they're just "classic" in every sense of the world. 2. Testament One of the greatest metal bands EVER! I don't know much about them, but I know I love their music. Their older stuff is a lot more speed metal, with deeper singing, but their newer stuff is what I really love. I forget the name of their guitarrists name, Alex something, but ya, other than Kirk Hamett, he has the coolest solos. They are extremely underrated, and I'd say their best album is The Ritual. 3. Nine Inch Nails Trent Reznor kicks ***! He's one of my most favorite singers, and their lyrics are awesome. They're pretty much one of those bands where you either hate them or love them. They're not very popular, but I'm sure most people have still heard stuff by them. (Bow down before the one you serve, you're going to get what you deserve.) My favorite songs by them are Piggy, Heresy, and Head Like A Hole. 4. The Distillers Yay! Brody Dalle is like, my second favorite singer ever! This is the only band I can think of that totally rocks and has a female singer. She has a voice unlike any other singer you'll ever hear, male or female. It's a very powerful voice. Ya, they're just one of my favorite punk bands out there, and I think if more people heard hpw great they are, they could be the next big thang. 5. Juvenilia Ya, dunno why I put this here. Juvenilia is the band I'm in, and obviously nobody's heard of us. But I wanna be mainstream! Remember this name, cause one day my band will be the biggest, best fricken metal band ever. I can dream.
9. Oi. Ya, well, me and two of my friends just started a band recently cause we're gonna play Smells Like Teen Spirit in our school talent show, (winner gets 500 bucks!) and we're still kinda in limbo over what our band name should be. Right now we're called Juvenilia, which I came up with. It's actually a real word, and by definition it's a piece of artwork, generally literature, done by an author who is at a young age. I thought it worked well since the whole band is like, 14, but my drummer doesn't really like it. So, if anybody could help it would be very appreciated. If you can, just tell me some band names that aren't already take, that you think are cool. (By the way, we're a punk/metal band, not really sure yet since we've only made one of our own songs together, which was death metal.)
10. The most effective way to make someone change is by force. Who wouldn't change something about them with a gun to their head?
11. Yay, finally a Metallica thread! Well, I'm being serious when I say I'm probably the biggest Metallica fan here, I'm completely obsessed with them, I know WAYYY too much about them, I've seen em live, and I think they're the greatest band of all time. Anyways, hmmmm...my favorite Metallica song? Well, that's way to hard, so I'll pick a few. My favorite speed metal song by them is Fight Fire with Fire, my favorite acoustic song by them is a tie between Fade to Black and One, my favorite song with the best lyrics is Welcome Home...(Sanitarium), my favorite cd by them is Master of Puppets (my favorite cd of all time), my favorite older song by them is Seek and Destroy, my favorite newer song by them is Dirty Window, what else? I haven't seen to many of their videos, but I'd have to say my favorite one is the video to Nothing Else Matters, because it's like a behind the scenes making of the song, and it totally goes perfect with the song itself. My favorite member, despite the fact I love them all, would have to be Kirk Hammett. He's my idol, my favorite guitarrist of all time. I'm play guitar myself, and I totally idolize Kirk Hammet as being one of the greatest guitarrists of all time. Ya, I think that's enough for now. I still haven't seen Some Kind of Monster, but I'm dying to. Oh, one last thing: Who's your favorite bass player for Metallica, since they've had a few? My personal fave is Cliff Burton. You'll agree once you listen to Kill Em All and hear Anesthesia(Pulling Teeth).
12. Here's a simple way of putting it: Anything you'd die for, you love. I think that's pretty much accurate. I can't really think of any exceptions, but correct me if I'm wrong. I myself, am in love. I know a lot of you will say that I'm too young to even know what love is, I am only 14, but I do. You'll definitely know what it is when you find it. So here's something else. Love can and is different for every single person, so there's not one single answer for what love is. Love is what you make of it, and you'll know what to make of it when you find it.
13. I've been wanting to do this for awhile now. I've written quite a lot of poetry so I decided I'd share some of it. Please tell me what you think. I seek shelter inside myself, And try not to question my own mental health, I look in the mirror, and what do I see? Everything this world has with the exception of me, The ugly duckling, swan yet to appear, Haze drawing thin, I see the end near, Trapped under ice, I stare back at my cage, Mind going numb as I bottle the rage, Save it up for a better time and place, Despite the fact it eats away at my face, Twisting it, turning it, making me frown, Head under water, I've long since begun to drown, I try to fight Death's final kiss, But my eyes have become adjusted to the darkness.....
14. Okay, first of all, I wanna start by saying this thread is for serious discussion, not for a bunch of lame dudes who call themselves "punk" and say they want anarchy because they hate authority and **** like that, that's stupid. Anyways, the reason I'm writing this is because, for a 14 year old guy, I'd say I'm rather mature and intelligent when it comes to politics. So, I just want to know what you all think about anarchy. Here's my opinion: Anarchy is simply the ultimate form of democracy, and I wish that one day the whole world can adopt this way of life. In case you don't know, anarchy pretty much means no politics, no government, no leader, nobody to tell you what to do. No authority. But here's the thing, anarchy could only possibly exist under two conditions. 1. That the entire world adopts anarchy as their form of politics, or lack thereof, whatever you want to call it. 2. That our society, and this means the entire world, is intelligent enough to run themselves, and intelligent enough to have common sense and morals. Now I'll start discussing this. As for number 1, it's fairly obvious why the whole world would have to have anarchy for it to work. For example, if the whole world had anarchy except for, let's say Japan, then it would be Pearl Harbor all over again, only much worse. If one country has anarchy, and no leadership, then other countries would try to quench their power-hungry thirsts by taking over that country. But if the whole world had anarchy, then, at least hopefully, everyone would be equal as they should be, and there would be no corrupt leaders to start wars and other conflicts. As for number 2, this one is much more important. Anarchy would only work in a world filled with intelligent citizens that can take care of themselves and their basic needs. If they can take care of themselves then what's the point of some higher authority to tell them what to do? If anarchy existed, then there would most likely be no laws either. Therefore, society would have to be compromised of individuals who know right from wrong, now what to do and not to do, and don't do things that would endanger themselves or others around them. This is the hard part. In a world of anarchy, schools, along with good parenting, would be extremely important. It would be the parents/teachers jobs to teach the kids a good sense of judgement, along with high moral standards. Eventually, our planet would have a new standard of living, one of equality and peacefulness. I hope this all makes sense. It really is my dream and hope that one day, probably not for many centuries, that our world will be compromised of anarchy. If anarchy was used properly just like it should be, then all of our world's basic problems would be solved. There would still of course be problems like natural resources, that can never be changed, but if anarchy existed in the right way, then our world and the people compromising it could learn to accept the ways of peacefulness, sharing, good values, and many other things like that that people do need to learn nowadays. If anarchy existed there would never be any wars, fights, disputes, etc. I know this is a stretch though. It seems almost impossible to comprehend a peaceful Earth, one with no wars and the utmost intelligence and peacefulness, but I think one good thing about humans is that we can learn to change. And change is what we need. I hope some of you out there agree with what I'm trying to say. Well, that's pretty much all I have to say. Please tell me what you all think about this subject, I'd really like to know. All in all, Anarchy is what we need, Anarchy is the future.....
15. I don't know if this counts or not, but the coolest guitar make of all time would have to be Gene Simmons (Kiss) signiture Axe. That thing is so freakin awesome. If you want an actual guitar, then I'd have to go with either the Gibson Les Paul or the ummmm....... BC Rich Beast. BC Rich makes the most badass guitars, I got me a Warlock.
16. Here's a lyric by Rancid that I totally agree with: You got no passion, it's all fashion. We can all agree that this goes for WAAAAAY too many bands today.
17. Has there ever been a band who's new stuff has been nearly as good as their old stuff? Seriously, I loved the old Guns N Roses, and I can't possibly imagine the "new" Guns N Roses being anywhere near as good. Dunno any release dates though. BTW, the radio drastically overplays "Fall To Pieces" by Velvet Revolver.....
18. I totally agree with just about everybody has said here, so I think I should revise my statement. Punk is dying. And very fast too. There still is a small amount of decent popular Punk bands out there, most of which have already been named. Rancid, Anti-Flag, Casualties, Distillers, Misfits are still barely hangin on, etc. But, as I'm sure you can all agree, bands like Good Charlotte or Avril Lavigne (two generic examples) can definitely be respected for the fact that they are making music, but that's about it. It's that THEY consider themselves punk and try and make money off of it that really makes me mad. One thing our culture needs to learn today is to just be your self. If everyone followed that simple statement then just think how much better the music world, and real world, would be. With that said, I leave it at that. If everybody was just themselves then there would never be any posers or anything, just a bunch of people "keepin it real." And one more thang, go out there and support your local underground punk band! They're the real warriors in the fight to keep Punk alive. Even if it's current death might be inevitable, I, and everyone else, should still enjoy it while it last, cause really, it never will be completely dead, thanks to some of the absolutely AWESOME Punk bands we've had in the past.....
19. As much as I'd like to deny it and wish it wasn't true, what was once punk is now honestly dead. I consider myself "punk" but most people probably wouldn't deem me so because I don't exactly dress like all the other people who do think they are. I listen to Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, and of course, Punk. But this isn't about me. I think music keeps changing too much to stay popular with the times, and that's not what music should be about. And especially not Punk Rock. Punk Rock used to actually mean something back in the day, people either loved it or hated it. Now it's actually a FREAKIN CLOTHING STYLE?!!! :flaming: I hate that. Way too many kids these days wear a Misfits shirt or something and haven't even heard a single song by them. Punk is sure as hell not about popularity, but thanks to places like Hot Topic, everybody's got a freakin studded belt and a Ramones shirt. Hot Topic is the Anti-Christ to what actually used to mean something. As much as I love Punk Rock, I can honestly say that places like Hot Topic, and those stupid "pop" punk bands like Good Charlotte, have brought about the demise of punk. Bands these days just keep becoming less and less musically talented, and more and more sing-along. Does anybody feel the same way as me, that punk has become way too popular and means practically nothing anymore? I wish it weren't so, but Punk Rock is either Six Feet Under or somewhere close to it.....
20. Oh, I know! They both fricken suck! Don't you guys have any taste in music at all? Seriously, both Yellowcard and LostProphets bring absolutely nothing new to the genre, and they're both just overpopular "teen" bands that everybody listens to. Just two more mindless pop-punk bands the world could do without. I must also add that all this "pop" punk crap is an overwhelming disgrace to punk. Punk rock was a form of music based on rebelity and saying what had to be said, and now it's turning into all this love song **** with absolutely no meaning at all. I suggest you all try listening to some real music.....
21. Hey hey hey, another Guitarist here! I got tons of influences in my playing, mostly Metallica though. I also totally look up to Angus Young from AC/DC and Eddie Van Halen...of course. I've just recently started getting really good at the whole two-handed tapping thing, so awesome. I have yet to be in a band but I totally hope I'll be. The first song I completely learned was Hell's Bells by the one and only AC/DC. I'm 14, I've only been playin for about two years but I'm already really good, and I live in Oceanside, California.
22. 1. South Park 2. Family Guy 3. Aqua Teen Hunger Force 4. Sealab 2021 5. Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law 6. Space Ghost Coast To Coast 7. Home Movies 8. The Brak Show 9. Futurama 10. Celebrity Deathmatch Mostly Adult Swim shows, what can I say? I also HAD to put South Park 1st since that's like the best show EVER!!! I'm surprised neither of you two put it. Maybe you find it offensive perhaps?...Anyways, I also added Celebrity Deathmatch. I'm not sure if that counts as animation since everythings clay, but that show is still freakin hilarious. And I put Space Ghost because I think that show is WAY underrated, and I'm talking about the Talk Show, not the actual cartoon that's like 40 years old. Well, that's it for me.
23.
I've seen it man, the guy has sex with a girl and from then on only goes out with girls so he can have sex. That's just not right. Also how do you know she is ready? Maybe you ahve been pressuring her to it, constatnly talking about it with her. She may feel as if she ought to be ready. Just let it pass you're 14 for christ sake, this girlfriend will no doubt be gone in a few months or so...usually how they last. Its not worth it, not this young.
Hey man, I just gotta disagree. First of all, I would never in a million years go out w/ a girl just for sex. Especially not Ally. (gf) We've already been together for over four months, so it's definitely not some passing phase. I know you guys may also say I'm too young for love, and that I'm not really in love with her, I just think that I am due to hormones or something, but I am really in love with her and I know it. I agree, It's definitely not right to go out with girls just for sex. But I should say I definitely have NOT pressured her whatsoever to have sex, I wouldn't do that to her. And I'm not constantly talking about it with her. It's sort of a mutual agreement between us that we're both ready and willing. Anyways, I see all of you definitely come to the agreement that 14 is waaaaaaay too young, and I actually sort of agree. But there can be special cases, right? Most guys my age would be too nervous to even think about doing it yet, but I'm not at all so that's at least some sort of sign right? Well, I definitely expected reactions such as all of yours, oh well. Guess nobodys on TI's side.....not surprising though.
24.
Either way it's not up for other people to decide, just promise that you'll use two types of protection and we'll be okay....that's what I plan on telling my kids.
Well damn, I wish my mom shared the same ideas as you when it comes to her children having sex. She told me that sexual abstinence is the only way to fully protect yourself. Then I told her she can't stop me from doing it, and she grounded me. I might have replied back a bit too loud, but god, It sucks being young. Oh ya, before I go, thanks Wrist Cutter, you always know what to say don't you? Unfortunately your idea would lead to the exctinction of the human race and monkeys would take over. And no matter how much you all might want to see the real life version of Planet of the Apes, I know I wouldn't.....
25. I don't know if you were expecting any dudes to post here but I will. I must say I'd stalk Quentin Tarantino (not because I think he's sexy or anything) so maybe I could bug him enough to make a sequel to Reservoir Dogs or something. Best freaking movie ever.
