1. Aldous Huxleys' books are particuarly good. Although some of them have wrong ideas, specifically Antic Hay. Brave New World is interseting in it shows a different view of society. George Orwells Nineteen Eighty Four and Animal Farm are also good ways of seeing the world in a different view. Sci Fi books are my main vice though Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and Arthur C. Clarkes 2001 A Space Odessy seriesare awsome although sometimes the physics envolved can be a little bit screwed up. Most of the books I read are given to me or I find out about them off other people. Most of the time I don't really choose a new author unless it is said to be good by other people.

Reminisce...

When you where a kid (or if you still are) what was your favourite cartoon. I'm not talking about anime cartoons but the others eg. Hanna Barbara, Warner Brothers etc. Give reasons as to why you like them and wether you still do. It wouldn't be a very good thread if I didn't include my own favourite, here goes. When I was 5 ish I really liked Hanna Barbara cartoons. The best one was The Jetsons with the quirky characters and the fact that they lived in a kick *** house up in the sky. The animation style was slightly shonky (same as most cartoons from that period) but, when you are five most things that are colourful on TV seem good. Another good one was Huckleberry Finn also by Barbara, It had the looks. Within this show was Yogi Bear. Although being as stupid in the head as Willie Cyote he was still entertaining especially when he got in trouble from the Ranger. Thats my two cents now for yours.
3. People/ groups that piss me off:

People who do stupid things for no particular reason.
Crude women i.e. the ones who feel it necasary to tell you that they once took a piss in the middle of the street.
The people who will persecute you for liking something which they do not.
British people in general. From my experience all they ever do is complain.
Rock climers who hog all the climbs.
People who see no need to do things that are considered important in society i.e. washing etc.
That finishes my list of pet peeves.
4. Welcome back Annie, I have heard many good things about you but unfourtunatley I wasn't here before you left so I don't really know much about you. I will say once again, WELCOME BACK
5. I myself am a non practicing Catholic which basically means I don't go to church or pray or any of that other stuff. I also think to belive you are an athiest you have to admit that there is some kind of god/ being or other wise people are just kidding themselves.
6. Could you count The Animatrix as anime shorts because if they are then detective story is my favourite. It was directed by Shinichiro Watanabe who also made Cowboy Bebop. I particuarly like the animation style and the use of Alice in Wonderland analogies. The setting is good to as it is set in the 1930's which is a period of 20th Century history which particuarly appeals to me.
7. I have a couple of anime universes I would like to live in. I think that the Cowbot Bebop unverse would be very cool to live in as it is infact our own solar sytem 67 years in the futre. The best place within that universe would be Ganymede because it seems so idilic in the series. The second would be the Ghost in the Shell setting. It has many advantages, again it is set on Earth although it has a vastly different technologies in it. The idea of being a cyborg appeals to me as does the various cars in the movie. The only bad part would be the politics that go on although this wouldn't be much different to what happens now. Appart form them the only other place I would like to live would be the Astro Boy universe, Because I find the idea of having a cyborg mother amusing.
8. Although I confess to seeing only a couple of episodes, the ones I've seen where rather good. The original Astro Boy was made in the 60's so it tends to be black and white. There is a colour version which was made in the 80's, but I do not know if this is the re- make you speak of. Another point I would like to add is wether anyone has seen the colour series on DVD as I wish to buy it. I've seen it on video but that was about 8 yrs ago when I didn't know what anime was. Most other series it is possible to find them in a select number of shops in Australia but Astro Boy is a hard one to track down.
9. I think that Montego Bay Spleen by Saint Germain is a rather beutiful song. Most of the songs off his Tourist album are excellent but this one i find is the most beautiful. As Saint Germain is electro jazz Montego Bay contains alot of synthesiser sp? sounds.
10. I've played many paper and pen RPG's. Some of the games I have played include: D+D 3rd ed. D20 Modern Oriental Adventures Ravenloft (which is scary for low level characters) Because we started as a group of begginers numerous mishaps occured (like anchient red dragons being inserted into level 2 quests by one member of OB). Several other mishaps along those lines occurred until. The member of OB read the DMG and then the frequency of these events dropped radically. One of my other friends created quests that needed comlex logical thinking to finish. Resulting in bad quests. Strangely enough it was this very friend who made me hate D+D after he screwed over 5 or 6 of my characters in a rather 'in your face kind of way'. In one quest he decided to hang my character upside down for a number of weeks, then when we got to the nearest town he stole all my possesions and sold me as a slave. I have two moments that would classify as my favourite. The first is when we had a quest where each of us played various monsters (such as pit fiends and storm giants) and where allowed to ravage several towns in the local vicinity before being chased by a good storm giant on a cloud. The second was when my warband managed to trek half way across a continent with no injuries (a very rare occurance). That quest worked well until the above mentioned friend entered the quest where he proceeded to get us butchered by a (I forget the name but one of those multi headed things). It's strange all my best memories of paper and pen RPG's are when the hated friend weren't there.
11. Before Reid knew what was happening he was otside the inn joining the fray. The scene outside his door was one of utter chaos, the bodies of civilians and the galliant raiders where strewn around with careless discord. A raider in purple ran towards him. Before the raider had a chance to strike Reid had promptly severed the wretched souls life. Reid ran across the main square to the stage where the summonig festival took place so he could get a better vantage point. From the stage Reid got quite a different point of view. The melee below was a whiring clump of colours as the townspeople dressed in their finest robes and the warriors dressed in purple fought to save the town. Reid wondered. Why on this day of all days? What did they want?
12. Weeks of preperation had finally paid off. Today was to be the start of the week long Dragon Wing Festival. Reid jumped out of bed excitedly, he got dressed quickly going downstairs to rowse the guests. After he had made breakfast for all the guests he went outside to wait for the festival to start. The air had the most wonderful scents on it, the smell of cinnamon and freshly cooked fruit. The town was starting to awaken and the streets where filling with brightly dressed people out top enjoy the festival. It was soon time for the festivities to start with the dragon summoning. The tunes wafted up the street towards him and as they did he saw the dragons circling in the air. They each did a stunt special to that type of dragon. Finally one dragon lit a large vat of oil to signify the start of festivities. Just as the flame was lit a large chorus of dragons roaring could be heard. Reid looked skywards and saw people dressed in purple flying over the walls attacking the city. In the time it took for him to look down purple raiders had infact broken throught the gates. Reid saw it as his moral duty ot attack the raiders invading his precious city but first he needed to secure some appropriate weapons to fight them. When he returned inside to find some weapons he searched high and low but to no avail. Reid stomped unhappily down the stairs before he remebered that above the fire place in the bar there was a longsword in a glass case. He smashed it open he was now indeed ready to attack the invaders.
13. I'm suprised this thread has gotten as far as it has without anyone mentioning 'The Fifth Element' which in my opinion is one of the best sci- fi movies around. 'A Clockwork Orange' while gory is still a really good movie and so is '2001 a Space Odessy'. The one 'Matrix' movie I watched was good so are the 'Star Wars' ones althought I never have and never will be a nut for it. As for 'Star Trek', 'Farscape', and 'Stargate SG1' they have never really grabbed my attention as good sci- fi. The 'Back to the Future' trilogy is also a rather good series of movies. As you can see I like alot of different types of sci- fi movies, which could be a good or bad thing.
14. Reid looked across at the people in his bar with quiet pleasure. Everything was set for the coming festival. The banners where draped, the stores filled with a large amount of food and alcohol for the festival. All of the rooms in Reid's inn (the prancing dragon) where full but it didn't stop the constant stream of weary travellers enquiring about the avalibility of rooms. As the sun set the bar started to fill with the guests of the inn and the locals who lived in the surrounding streets. The gentle murmur of people chatting quietly amongst them selves quickly grew into a deafening din. Reid liked this time of year more than any other because the profits produced now where ample to last till the next Dragon Wing Festival. On the day of the festival alone Reid would make nearly half of his income for the following year. He asked one of his barmaids to come over so he could ask her a question "I hope things are going well, no rough treatment" In return she replied "Only those people over there are being to rough. Could you please throw them out." Reids' reaction was to throw them out informing them that they wouldn't be permitted to enter the bar again during the duration of the festival.
15. I have been given permission to post this right here. Name: Reid Lattner. Age: 28. Gender: Male. Race: Human. Class: Inn Keeper. Weapons: Two short daggers and a broken bottle. Partner: Iepp the small dragon. Personality: Big and burly but likeable sort of guy. Appearance: Reid stands at about six feet tall. He has a muscle bound upper body to help dispose of the peasentry. He wears dark brown cloth pants over which he wears a greese and beer stained apron. His upper body is covered by a baggy shirt. History: Born into a family of inn keepers it seemed inevitable that Reid would follow on in his fathers footsteps which is exactly what he did. When he was old enough he opened his own bar on the oppisite side of the town to provide some competition. Due to the fact that his fathers bar was already well established Reid only gets some of the local peasents who couldn't be bothered traveling. This changes round festival time when accomidation space becomes hard to find. Reid is forced to live on the profits that the festival season generates.
16. There are those that stress to much before tests, then there are those that do the exact oppisite. I am one of those people that don't stress enough which is bad for the results. Stress makes us more alert more able to remember things etc. When you don't stress enough you forget things (like maths equations) which can cause you to fail.. badly.
17. I agree with Godensensai on the D+ D slang. It makes for good entertainment watching the newly initiated struggle to understand whats going on. At our school we don't have much slang but, I am willing to share it with you. We have: Meh- which pisses me off endlessly. Chaddy- which means bad or ill made Bodgy- which is the same as chaddy. Thats about it really, the salng at our school
18. For me it would have to be fighting that stupid creature outside Bevelle in FFX. I still haven't beaten it although I have tried many times but it casts haste killing me in the process. Another annoying moment is trying to beat the last chapter in Tony Hawks Underground it took nearly 20 attempts but I passed it in the end which was rather satisfying.
19. In Australia snow days aren't likely to ever happen unless you live in the blue mountains. When I first moved up here when I was 4 it snowed for a week straight althought the snow was gone by midday. Since those happy days your lucky if it snows once a winter. When on the rare occasions it does snow everything shuts down till 10 in the morning so the ice can be scrapped off. The rest of the time it's just generally cold and windy which isn't very fun at all.
20. Name: Clancy Wigum Age: 35 Picture or Written Description: Bio: Clancy Wiggum is the chief of the Springfield Police Department, the long, pudgy arm of the law. After battling acne and asthma during his childhood and adolescence, Chief Wiggum grew (and grew and grew) into the imposing man that he is today. His two greatest successes as a crime fighter were solving the attempted murder of C. Montgomery Burns by Maggie Simpson (a dream led Wiggum to the main clue), and the capture and arrest of Sideshow Bob after he kidnapped the Simpson family and crashed their houseboat. Wiggum's greatest success as a man is his son Ralph Wiggum, a special little boy who plays with special little friends, none of whom are visible to anyone else. Other than that, Wiggum considers it a success if he can even get out of bed in the morning. If that doesn't tire him out too much, he might even fight some crime.
21. I normally use music as an escape I find it also helps me to concentrate when I do homework and the such. I have also found that homework is more llikely to be started once there is some kind of music playing ie it gets me motivated to do the work in the first place. Music doesn't particuarly change my mode, or not that I notice anyways. Electronica/ dance is the kind of music for me althought I do admit to having rock, alternative and a few other things in my collection.
22. Since my last post in this thread I have decided to announce more songs and genres that I think suck. When the radio station I was listening to started to play way to much CRAP I changed radio stations to one that is owned by the government. N.B. the radio staion is triple J for those that are in Australia. Getting back to the topic at hand I have decided to turn my back on all but the very best comercial music because it mostly consists of tryhards such as Chingy, Eminem, Hilary Duff etc. For anyone familiar with the Idol series I think that all people who are stupid enough to go on that show are tryhards to. No offence to budding musicians or anything. On a finishing note I would like to announce my least favourite song of the moment: Outkasts Hey- Ya what kind of idiot gave them a record deal.
23. I was wondering wether anyone would like to make me a banner/ avatar combination using Spike and Jet From Cowboy Bebop. I would really like it if someone could thankyou.
24. Percy woke with a start. Where was he, what was doing. His mind became less cloudy he realised were he was. He was in his room, infront of his computer. Since hsi mother died he kept collapsing at the most inopertune like in the lecture hall at college, in the train on the way home. It was because of this that he wasn't allowed to drive a car for fear of falling asleep at the wheel. Percy looked at the clock next to his computer, which read 8: 45am. After a short time he realised that he had a lecture due to start in 15 mins. Percy hurried to get out the door. As percy normally did he checked his pockets to make sure he had his keys to get back inside when he returned but as he tapped his pockets a draft blew the door closed behind him. At the exact same moment he realised that he didn't infact have his keys, meaning that he was locked outside his apartment. He had no time to worry about that now Percy had a lecture to get to and if he didn't start attending more lectures soon he would flunk his college degree. When he got to the train station Percy saw the train he had to catch leaving the station he ran on his short stubby legs in an attempt to get to the platform before the train disapeared in to the black abyss know as the subway network. It didn't seem to be Percys day because by the time he got to the college he found the lecture hall completly empty. He decided to head home as there was nothing for him to do at college. The fact that his life blood the computer beckoned him had nothing to do with it at all. The challenge for Percy when he got back home was another story. he managed to get into his appartment by jimmying a window open and crawling through it.
25. Due to Australian law I recently had to enrol to vote because as of Saturday the 24th of January I'm 18. I think when I vote later on this year I'll probally vote for who ever I think has the more intelligent policies. As I go to a public High School I don't think little Johnny Howard will get my vote although you don't really get to vote for the Prime Minister as whoever is the party leader with the majority of seats becomes the PM.
