Anime Yaoi/shonen-ai: what's the attraction?
amiboshi replied to Utena_Tenjou's topic in Otaku Central
I finally got to see Gravitation and I love it! It's so funny! Okay, I've only seen 2 episodes, but I can't wait to see the rest! It's so hilarious... -
Originally posted by Aries There is no way I would shave my head. I've been growing my hair out for a while now, and it's growing slowly, but it's taken so long that I'm not giving up. I'm going to grow it out long, part it down the middle, with a pony tail of just the back hair, and streak it blue probably.
Wow. That'll be something to see. When you reach your goal, you have to take a picture and post it here. That's something I just have to see.... ;)

The characters may be boring now, but they have different sides to them. Okay, maybe not Kagome so much, but Inu-Yasha really grows throughout the series. He has a few different sides, and there are more characters that join Kagome and Inu-Yasha like Shippo and Miroku. The plot also gets better, so if it's boring now don't give up on the show! It'll get better, I promise! ...unless you really don't like this kind of show....

The fights in Orphen are a bit repetitive. When he fights Hartia, it was cool the first time, but on a later DVD he fights Hartia again, and I swear they used the EXACT same graphics for both fights. We're talking you could follow along right down to Orphen's very arm-swoosh. They changed the dialogue a bit, but it gives you an unnerving feeling of deja-vu. It was laughable that they used the same scene, though.

The melefs in the movie were cooler. They were more organic-like. Yeah, I guess Gaia was more war-torn, but it already had a whole lot of war going on in the series. I remember thinking Hitomi was such a wuss sometimes.... She was always so depressed about EVERYTHING. If I were her, I would have enjoyed myself more. I mean, she was fretting over everything from her tarot reading to which guy she liked now. I think she was being a bit too serious about her crushes.... I wanna go through the series again and count how many times she cries out for either Amano, Allen, or Van. I'm sure it's a very high number....
Originally posted by Utena_Tenjou I've seen a little bit of the Escaflowne Movie(Maybe about 30-45 mins) and I didn't like it..just the way there drawn I gues 0_-
I didn't like the way they were drawn in the movie either. Everyone just look more like a savage....I dunno. All the elgance was gone from the artwork! >.< But I did think Hitomi kinda looked nicer....sorta.... I really thought I wouldn't like the movie at all when I finally saw it after crinkling my nose at the art for the longest time, but I actually liked the movie. It was a cute movie to see, especially since I've seen the whole series, comparing the two was fun. ^-^
Originally posted by Domon well yeah Van may be a little too skinny but come on ya gotta admit it is great anime, i really don't mind Hitomi's short hair. I'm mainly drooling over the melefs.
The melefs certainly were something to drool at. ^^ I liked Dilandau's.... His was awesome. But I really liked Escaflowne, too. That was really neat that it could become a dragon...and the way Van linked himself to Escaflowne so he could operate it better. That first battle with that was cool....Esca's cape ripped and Van got a little slice on the back of his shirt....

I don't like too many abbreviations.... I still can't understand why people use "wuz" instead of was....I mean....it's the same number of letters, so what's the point? I don't mind lol, since I use that too, but that almost seems to have become the equivalent of a "cyber laugh" than an abbreviation. I hate when people use 8's in a word, though. Like L8er....it takes me longer to read that than normal english, that's for sure. Also, lmao....I always have to try and remember which each letter means because people make so many different combinations. There's lmao, lmfao, etc. It just takes more time than necessary to read these things, which is a pain if there's like a paragraph of it... Something else that bugs me are the common mistakes people seem to repeatedly make in their English. They don't know which "to/too" to use, its/it's or there/they're/their. I learned those things in second grade, and people use them incorrectly all the time.... -.-

If you want one at Livejournal you have to pay for I think 2 months is the smallest payment time to start up a new account, then once that time is over you can stop paying and your account will still be active, jsut without added benefits, or if you get invited by a friend it's free. If you don't want to deal with that, ujournal is exactly the same. It even uses the same client... Ah yeah, I have a new journal now. It's www.livejournal.com/users/souichiro

This version looks great! I can see all the button and the OB Gizmo works fine. Oh yeah, and the instant reply is working fine, too.

Ugh. I'm so sick of favorite character threads.....they're so boring. I mean, there usually isn't any major discussion, people just list things....and NO, we're not suppose to have "favorites" threads. >.< And there is already a "sexiest anime character" thread, which is virtually the same thing! Well, at least to me... heh heh heh. Anyway, can't people make any real threads here that don't have to do with which characters they like the most? T.T

The anime or the manga? I rented the anime DVD a while ago, but I couldn't even finish it. I should rent it again I guess..... It was getting sort of boring, and CLAMP's art in it looked a little old compared to some of the newer stuff.... I dunno, it was just a little too slow at first to me. I hated Subaru's sideburn-style hair. :cross: Ick. He looks better in X when he's a little older and has nicer hair.... lol.

I don't know if Van HAD to make it that way. I mean, Hitomi taught him the technique so he could become closer to Escaflowne and he could fight with more of his power, I guess. That was really painful to watch when they were drilling and such on Escaflowne, and Van could feel the drilling on his own body....that was kinda nasty to imagine. It jusy gave me chills. One of the original Escaflowne mangas (I think the anime was based on more than one, because there were numerous references from the director in an article I read) and Hitomi had long hair. She was much prettier. ^^ One of the other things I don't really like about the character designs is that Van is just SO skinny. I mean, in the movie he looks kinda chunky, but in the anime he's just kinda.....flat. O.o And especially with his shirt off, he just looks unhealthy. But I have to admit, I like his wings, too. ^^

I agee with you on most of that. I hated Allen, I loved Dilandau (go Piro's!), and I liked the opening song, but I think Mistic Eyes (the ending song) was better. ^-^ Ah, you're missing out if you haven't seen the last episode. It's really so cute, it was one of my favorites. ^^ The main problem is Zaibach. Now that I think about it, it's a pretty complicated problem. Basically, Zaibach's leader, Dornkirk, wants to alter fate to his late with his fate Alteration machine, and every time Hitomi and Van get close to each (emotionally and physically) he loses sight of his future, so he tries attacking the dragon (van and escaflowne), seperating Van and Hitomi, and even kidnapping Hitomi to keep his future in view.

I know a few sweet guys, but at my High School, and in middle school too, most of them are just really big jerks. But it's just like that with females, so I think this is more of a people in general thing, not exactly gender, although we females always tend to make it gender-oriented. ;)
Originally posted by Def_Kun Currently trying out a few new titles... 1. Tokyo Underground 2. Rah Xephon 3. Prince of Tennis 4. King of Bandits Jing 5. Gensoumaden Saiyuki aside from the usual Chobits that I haven't finished yet.
I've read some of the Prince of Tennis Manga. It's kinda interesting, but all the people look like weird demons to with their huge eyes and pointy ears and all..... It seems good, although I've only read 2 volumes. I'd like to get the anime, but ya know, that costs money and everything.....

Hitomi's "competition" for Allen was Princess Millerna. I kinda thought Hitomi was ugly, too. lol. Maybe it was just because her uniform was so unflattering, though, because when she goes back at the end and she has normal clothes on, I thought she looked kinda pretty. ^-^ Geh. I hated Allen. I didn't like his long hair or his arrogant attitude, but I probably really disliked him because I wanted Van an Hitomi to get together, and Allen just kept getting in the way! Van's my favorite. He was always so sweet, he just didn't quite say things right sometimes. >.< Poor Van....
Originally posted by genkai_yyh DON'T go ragging on yu yu hakusho as being too mainstream..even if it is.... i was a fan BEFORE CN, so pleh.... anyway, yeah, inu-yasha will probably get fan bases like DBZ or something, but more if it became primetime..... SIGH.... well, the DVDs are coming out in november for those of us willing to spend money... obviously i am, i bought landlock......yeah...it was cheap, so... so..I LOVE INU YASHA!!!! Course, idon't know much about it. bought the first volume, but all of Rumiko's stuff is so expensive...oy..
Ah! I wasn't ragging on YYH! I just meant that pretty much everyone knows of it now. I mean, it's extremely well-known and there are legions of fans now. Inu-Yasha cost me an arm and a leg to buy. I have all 11 volumes that have been released so far, and at $17 a piece, they cost a pretty penny. lol. That's why I love 10 dollar tokyo pop manga so much....:p I may buy the DVD as long as it has the subtitled version, too. In the first episode, I love when Kagome (in japanese) says her name in 3 bits to Inu-Yasha. Not sure why, but I thought it sounded really funny. ^^

Geh. I finally found a place where I could get a journal at. >.< It's nothin special, and there isn't much there since I've only had it for 2 days, but here it is. lol. http://www.ujournal.org/users/souichiro/

Fox never should have bought it in the first place. Of course they weren't going to put it on normal Fox times, and it really didn't belong on Fox Kids. Now they own the rights to it and they're not doing anything with it, so it's just sitting there. I hate to say it, but it would have been better if even CN had bought it instead. Then we might be seeing it on Toonami or Adult Swim or something.....
Originally posted by shadowdramon I'm all for American cartoons, but Nascar Racers over Escaflowne!? THe execs at Fox must have been smokin' something VEEEEERRRRRRYYYY powerful to put garbage like Nascar Racers over Escaflowne. And why wouldn't kids like Escaflowne? It has cool action and a big robot so there should be more viewers who like it over *shudders* Nascar Racers. Darn romance haters.
I agree, but logically, would a nine year-old boy really sit through the episodes when Hitomi is crying out and confused about which guy she likes the most? I'm sure tehey'd sit all the way through when (Spoiler) Allen kisses Hitomi and Van walks away soaking wet. Or when Van and Hitomi have their mushy moments and just stare into each other's eyes. lol. I can't imagine my brother sitting through it.

Well, I've noticed Fruits Basket often has morals in there. Tohru is always nice, and once Momiji tells a story that pretty much says a moral about her. They say she acts stupid sometimes because of her kindness, and some people may abuse it, but Momiji says he'll never abuse her kindess. It's kind of a messed up moral....but I think it says it's good to have kindness, and people shouldn't take it for granted. Yeah.....that's it.... O.o;; Also, FB teaches a moral about bad memories. They said you should never forget about memories, no matter how bad, that you should treasure them and they will one day make you a stonger person.
Originally posted by Queen Asuka Oh my GOSH! I did not even REALIZE they were airing this show on CN now! Gah! Another wonderful anime gone mainstream! Now it's going to be ruined as well! Man, that pisses me off SO bad. All these dumb idiots are going to be like "Yeah, Inu Yasha's the GREATEST! I know everything about anime now!" *Dies*
lol. Yeah, and soon there will be a million of the "biggest" (self-proclaimed, of course) Inu-Yasha fans around..... It makes me sick thinking about how soon Inu-Yasha may just be the next DBZ or Yu Yu Hakusho with legions of fans who don't even know it was written by Rumiko Takahashi....:cross:

I love Escaflowne! I saw the tapes at the store about a year after fox canceled it and remebered how much I liked it, so I started buying them, then I bought the whole series, since they were releasing it 2 tapes at a time still. Esca is soooo good. ...and the ending is really sweet. ^-^ They say fox took it off the air because a shoujo romance story couldn't hold up with the little kids like Nascar Racers (what they replaced it with) could. I guess I can understand that, but I still with they wouldn't have taken it off...
Originally posted by Queen Asuka And hey, another sexy anime guy would have to be Setsuna from Angel Sanctuary. He's so pretty...*Stares at her avatar in a dreamlike stupor*
I second that! Setsuna is very cute! Especially in the colored pictures where he has that pretty blonde/brown hair. He's just gorgeous....^-^
Originally posted by Aries My situation, since I'm in a small school, is that everyone has probably noticed me, but not everyone knows me. I've talked to most people in the school, but barely anyone besides close friends from a few years ago even know my name (even though I know most people's names). So, my point is, I'm not popular, but I'm not an outcast (although, I'd rather be an outcast than be popular). On the internet. . .I have a few good friends, but I really don't know what people truly think of me, and I really don't care (for the most part).
lol. Aries, I must comment on your post. I think on the net, at least here at OB, you're extremely popular. Have you....seen how many people have you on their friends list? lol. And if you mention "Aries" everyone knows who you're talking about. You're like....infamous. O.o
