Originally posted by baby_xelloss one question. Does FMP show nudity or was i just seeing things when i went to the book store. 0_0
I wont't make a claim on the manga but the TV doesn't show complete nudity. However, in the opening, there is a scene with a, uh, complete view of Chidori's body for a few seconds but that's all the real nudity i can remember from the show. But no, it's not hentai. FMP season 1 was great. Good action, good comedy, and a substandard plot. I was kinda sad when it ended but a few months later I found they were making season 2 which got me excited again. It's quite entertaining in its own right. It's FMP 1 minus the action and more comedy. And for those of you who've seen the show, Sousuke's military personality mixed with Chidori is hillarious. Seen the first few eps of this and it was great. I bet some who enjoyed the mecha action will be a touch dissapointed but the comedy will put a smile on everyone's faces. It's format is quite different too. Most of the eps contain 2 12-minute eps within it. It's kinda like American shows here like Hey Arnold! where you get 2 eps in 1. Really hope this will release to the US and other countries soon so I can add it to DVD collection. Great stuff.

I saw this movie last week after finding out my local library has almost all the Miyazaki movies on DVD. I was shocked to find out that I could see his movies for free and they have a much better Miyazaki collection than my local Blockbuster (which only had Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service). Overall, I'd have to agree to it was a great movie. The animation wasn't Spirited Away but nonetheless, it was nice. I liked the story a lot but for some reason, I was feeling like the movie was getting to be too long which wasn't something I felt while watching Spirited Away or Kiki's Delivery Service. But I still really enjoyed the movie as a whole. I'm yet to find a Miyazaki movie I didn't like. Looking forward to seeing My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke now.

There's no interest in my school for anime. Only know a few kids who like it here. I hear a lot of the schools in my area are like that. It's too bad. Looking on the bright side, we get to see "Spirited Away" in English class this year so that'll be something to look forward to. It's only so often you get to see anime in school when there's no anime club.

Just wanted to point out RK is supposed to move to the 11PM timeslot tonight (according to TV Guide). I wonder if this means less edits for the upcoming shishio fight which will definetely be a good thing. 11PM was when Adult Swim started on Saturdays (and when it starts now) back in the day so who knows. It'll be interesting to see what they do tonight but then again, I could be hoping for too much.

I liked their song "anthem", but the other songs were downright senseless. They're alright but nothing special. Chris Rock probably said it best @ the VMAs, "Good Charlotte? More like a mediocre Green Day." They're not a bad group but not one of the best the genre has to offer.

Being here since August of 2000, I could concur that a lot of posts here have been redundant. When I first came here, I remember a lot of people, including myself, were crazy about Pokemon and those boards were flooded with what we would call spam and the same topics such as, "how do i get mew?" + "who's you favorite pokemon?", were constantly posted. I must say, the mods are a lot more strict these days and the useless topics have been going down. While Pokemon is no longer the hot anime of the US, we still have a lot of people who come here posting on other mainstream shows such as DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh, Gundam, etc. I'm not too fond of these shows as are others here who claim they're for the "anime newbies", but as annoying as it may be to hear ppl talking about DBZ at school or here, there are some advantages to having these fans. The success of shows such as DBZ have brought us more anime in the US. And by anime, this is not just more mainstream shows, but new titles are being released in the US. It was great to see a good show like Cowboy Bebop make its way to the US so that people like me who don't understand Japanese could see it in subtitles without having to resort to downloading the eps off the internet. Deny it or not, a lot of the new anime series being released in the US would not be here if it weren't for the success of our modern mainstream animes. I don't care too much of the dubbed anime i see on TV, but thanks to some 10 year-old DBZ fans who don't have a clue who Akira Toriyama is, these shows get popular and it broadens our North American anime market. While not tremendously popular right now, anime is picking up ground and more people in the US are starting to like it. It's true that otakus get annoyed with some mainstream goers but as ignorant as they are to the "real anime world", their still helping us out to get what we want. I'm not saying that we should rejoice for the fans of DBZ or that we should have more mainstream anime here (yes, we do have enough), but just that we should realize, a lot of series we mention and like, might not be too big right now but without any support from US (not to mention other countries) fans here, these shows wouldn't come here in the first place. Just one final note, I like how this board has been improving over the past few years. This anime lounge is great. People get to mention new series, interest gains, and people get to know about new shows out there in the horizon. Topics like these are great. Get to know how others in the otaku community feel about certain issues and what the general census is. Nice thing about message boards. Get a diversity of opinions. Now, I wonder how many ppl will read this ridiculously huge post...

Anime Does Anyone Else's Parent's Like Anime?
VP-Master replied to Moor_Child's topic in Otaku Central
My parents kinda like anime. My mom likes to watch Kenshin on CN but does other things at the same time like washing dishes, cooking dinner, etc. so she just knows who the characters are but not too much of what the show is actually about. My dad always reads the paper or reads magazines when watching the TV so he rarely gets to see what's so special about anime. The only time i've truly seen my parents enjoy an anime was when we rented "Spirited Away" last month. Both of them enjoyed but my dad truly loved it and became an instant Miyazaki fan. He said he would like to see all his movies. I guess thanks to Miyazaki gifted talent in film-making, my parents are slowly starting to take an actual liking to anime in general. -
If ur parents are keeping track of all the new games u buy, there really isn't too many ways to buy a rated M game w/out your parents getting mad. Ofcourse, you could always buy it, hide it from your parents, and only play when ur home alone or at a friends house where they may not care as much about playing rated M games. No matter how old you are, u shouldnt have trouble buying the game. If their suspicious, you could lie and tell them your parents know ur buying the game and they usually(not laways) get off your case. If you can't live with the guilt, wait till your older. If you can, do it at your own risk.

Anime What is your favorite anime movie and Why?
VP-Master replied to Japan's topic in Otaku Central
OVAs prolly don't count as movies in everyone's mind but since Spirited Away's been mentioned too many times, I'll mention Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (part of the Kenshin series for those who don't follow the show). It set's a much more serious and sad tone than the show ever did but that's what made it so interesting. Although split into two parts, trust and betrayal, the story flows so smoothly that it's essentially one two-hour motion picture that goes through the bloody days of the revolution where a samurai known as Kenshin was feared as the merciless manslayer. In an eventual struggle between love and the harsh reality of the war, Kenshin's past of sorrow is unfolded. This is a must-see for any fan of the series especially if you haven't already read the jinchuu arc of the manga. If you haven't seen the show yet, however, it is recommended to catch a glimpse of at least the first half of it first to familiarize yourself with the characters and the storyline. Overall, simply awesome. -
As far as I know, no new Eva series has been officially confirmed. Because of the "bizarre" attempts to end the show in the past, many rumors have floated around whether the creators want another go at it. It's still something up in the air. On the other hand, the live-action Eva movie has been confirmed and it'll interesting to see how it turns out. Just hope it doesn't become another G Saviour. : (

Pretty interesting thoughts. IGN Covered the rumor too. In case you didnt see it, here's the link: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/425/425138p1.html It would be pretty cool to see a sequel but I'm not sure how it would work out. Maybe they'll say Sephiroth was reborn or something and CLoud has to beat him again. They can probably still come up with a good story and it would be awesome to really see it for whatever console it goes to.

I don't know about that but Japanese and Euopean swords are quite different. I wouldn't be surprised if you're right but I'm yet to see such a heavy sword in Japanese history. Their built to be relatively lightweight.

I just went to google images and searched zanbatou and got this. At first, I wasn't sure if it really was a zanbatou but then I asked someone who knows a lot more about Japanese swords than I do and told that's indeed a real Zanbatou. Still unsure why Noshuribo Watsuki would use the same name for a completely different type of sword though.
Originally posted by Hot Ice Hunter Does anyone know if Sanosuke's huge sword, the Zanbatou or whatever, was a real sword? Would be pretty cool if it was.
The sword is completely ficticious. A sword like that would weight 20-30 pounds and thats too much weight for a an person to carry in real life just for a sword. The name Zanbatou, ,however, is the name of a real sword. Here's a picture of it: As you can see, it's quite different from Sanousuke's Zanbatou.

Anime Which Animes Are Dubbed Best/Worst?
VP-Master replied to ~Mystical Pan~'s topic in Otaku Central
There are only a handful of good dubs i've seen. Ranma 1/2 is one. I like dub and sub the same for that, so it ties there. Another good dub is Nadesico. Even if Yuri's voice sounds a lot older than a little kid, they still a good job (although I still would not watch the dub or the sub). Some that I didn't like too much was Inuyasha. After seeing the subbed for quite a few years, the dubbed voices seemed a little awkward. While some voices matched well, some didn't go well at all ( didn't like InuYasha's voice too much). I didn't enjoy the Kenshin, Yugioh, or DBZ dubs. They just don't seem to fit the people at all. -
Originally posted by zerocrisis I hope that Cn doesnt butcher the fight with Kenshin and Saito cuz that is undoubtedly one of the best fights in the series (perhaps in all of anime history), so does anyone kno when the new episodes air????
I already posted this above. According to the schedules, it's supposed to be June 9.
-
Good news for some people wondering when CN will start showing more Kyoto eps. According to schedules, they should start up again on June 9th, which is next monday. Only a week or so waiting now so that's good. I'm interested in seeing how much violence from Kyoto they'll let us see and how much they'll have to cut out.

Kenshin is an awesome series and "Heart of Sword" is a great ending as well. To answer your question, the manga is not officially out in the US. It is possible it'll show up in the form of graphic novels or even in the US Shonen Jump in the future but no announcements on that yet. It'll be great to see this come out here since it contains the Revenge arc (the last 10 volumes or so of the manga) which were never animated for the TV show so a lot of new stuff. If you're desperate, you may find fan translations online.

I think the first I saw an anime series was Pokemon in 1999. Later that year, I saw Digimon and I was pretty content with that. I knew these shows came from Japan but I didn't even know it was called anime. I didn't see a true uncut anime series till October 2001 when I saw some dubbed Ranma 1/2. I knew a little more about anime then but I hardly cared about it. I really got hooked because of one of my friends. One day around April 2002, he gave me like 60 CDs of anime (Trigun, Kenshin, Nadesico, and tons of other stuff) and said I could keep them if I liked them. I was surprised seeing the stuff subbed but I liked it a lot better than the dubs I was used to seeing. Just watching a few of the stuff, I immediately wanted more and here I am now, an anime fan.

Prices really range where I live. One mall with MAX2 allows 3 songs for 50cents. The mall that is closer to me makes u pay 75cents for 3 songs, also MAX2. It doesn't really affect me since I got ignition pads and they work for me. Definitelety not the arcade feel but it lets u play harder songs (MAX300) with no problems.

Now I know i'm not the only one dreaming to make an anime series. Cool. To Answer your q, what I like to see in anime is balance. The fighting is great but I don't care much for shows that only thrive on fighting as their own plot element. I like it to be mixed with an enjoyable and logical plot that can really move you. If you can bring anticipation, rage, and tears to your audience, that's key. Captivate your audience so that they're always coming back for more. I guess you also have to include some romance. Doesn't have to be a lot if you don't want to but without that, the show may not do so hot popularity-wise. Be sure to make it funny too. I tend to watch anime with a more serious tone but they too have their share of comedy and they really need it to make the characters seem more likeable and more "human". Most people like a good joke, so be sure to have some. Don't outdo yourself here otherwise no one will understand the humor. That's some of the general stuff. If I think of anything else, I'll post more. Hope it helps.
Originally posted by Watinabe The CN Cut of Kenshin isn't that bad besides they do what they can that they do... I think... but still you sure do bash alot even with your "humble opinoins"*. Was that guy with the Symbol bad on his shirt ever going to wield that bad *** sword again or did he just ominously decide to get rid of it while joining Kenshin to become broke and full of goodness^_^
Kenshin destroyed Sano's sword in Ep 5 so he cant use it anymore. He never gets it fixed and instead, his main fighting style is with his fists and he uses those for the rest of the series. Some people who were wondering how long Kenshin will last on CN, I think they posted on ToonZone that cn ordered 95 eps(the entire tv series). I'm not sure if they ordered the OVAs but probably not yet.
Originally posted by HyperShadow Ughh...my Pokémon are so under-level. I have to do a lot of training, since I can't beat my rival after Slateport. What's a place somewhere before Slateport that givs a lot of EXP? I seriously need some help. >.< I can't withstand water moves. I have: Combusken - Lv. 22 Tailow - Lv. 16 Poochyena - Lv. 13 Ralts - Lv. 15 Aron - Lv. 12 I need to get these guys in the 20-25 level area. I'd kill for some of those Rare Candies...
I don't know if you're problem is having your pokemon at low levels but just not having the right type. Consider getting a windgull and raising it to a decent level (15-18). Might have an easier fight with that. I just had a lv 15 Zigzagoon, lv 16 windgull, and lv 23 grovyle and I managed to beat the rival after staleport. Very tough fight but I managed. If you're looking for leveling up, make sure you've been fighting all the trainers up to that point and when you're done with that, just walk around in the grass. The grassy areas before you meet the rival are prolly best place to level up at that point. It might be slow, but it's the best way.

I remember seeing the movie back in September or something. It was pretty average. As people have mentioned before, it's your standard Yugi-Kaiba deul tying in all those themes of determination, courage, and friendship you've come to know and love in the real show. It's really short (barely 30 mins) and its basically stuff u see in the show except in worse graphics (the movie was made for the original series of Yu-Gi-Oh which never aired in the US). It probably won't see an American release, but if you run into a subbed version, don't waste too much of your cash as it probably isn't worth it.

A friend lent me Ruby for a few days last week but sadly I had to give it back today. : ( Overall, I was impressed. As probably most ppl here, I've been playing the red/blue versions and i was happy to see it wasnt boring at all. While they recycle "the gotta catch em all" theme, they've put so much new stuff into the series like adding the 2-on-2 battles and my personal opinion was they made it a bit harder. It might've just been me, but I was using a lot more strategy than I thought i would on the 3rd gym. Any1 know if you can go back to johto and kanto and battle all the gyms there and battle Red? I was still in Hoenn while I was playing. That would be pretty cool but I don't think cartridge has enough room for all 3 regions but who knows. Overall, Pokemon still rules the Gameboy in my opinion and I look forward to buying this game soon since Target and other places are selling it @ a cheap price of $24.99 and most places I've been to still have an abundance of the game. Don't listen to your anti-pokemon friends who haven't even played the new game. It's a great game regardless how old you are.
