[SIZE=1][B]"Samwise?" [/B] Samwise Gamgee, esquire, late of the Shire, Hobbiton and Bag End, in particular, ignored the voice as he trudged down the path. He had just spent an enjoyable hour - or five - at the Green Dragon, trading tall tales and flagons of ale with his friends, and was now nursing an ever-so-slight headache from one singing Hobbit. [B]"Samwise Gamgee, are you deaf?" [/B] Sam shook his head, finally looking up from his contemplation of the ground beneath his feet. He glared at the speaker - an ineffective action, as Samwise himself thought he was unable to harm a fly. [B]"I ain't deaf, sir, an' if..."[/B] The speaker, a middle-aged Hobbit with a fatter-than-usual belly, continued, not pausing to allow Sam to finish his protest. [B]"Do you or do you not serve as gardener to Bag End?" [/B] Sam let his protest die on his lips; if the older Hobbit wasn't listening, what would be the point? [B]"Aye, sir, that'd be me...."[/B] [B]"Rabbits seem to have gotten through your fences." [/B]The Hobbit looked at his fingers, seemingly not caring abot the relatively bad news that he was delivering. "I hear there was a group of twenty-odd or more...you may want to hurry back..." Samwise hadn't even heard the end of that sentance, already speeding on his way. Speeding was as foriegn to him as real anger, but he was expiriencing both at the thought of his precious gardens decimated by hungry rodents. [i]Why if they've ruined it I'll hunt the lot of 'em,"[/i] he thought grimly. That garden was his pride and joy, carefully maintained. Rabbits were not appreciated. It only took the Hobbit ten minutes to walk the path; normally it took him forty, as he'd stop to talk with all he passed. But not today. Today the look of grim determination was enough to keep all would-be conversationalists at bay. He'd worked for Frodo for ten years now, ever since Mister Bilbo's mysterious disappearance, ever since he, Samwise, had been a mere child of fourteen. He'd maintained the same, perfect garden for those ten years. It was a matter of pride to him now. He burst through the gate of Bag End, stomping (carefully) through the flowerbeds, past the stands of ornimental pines, and into the back where his supposedly destroyed gardens were. Instead of destroyed vegetation, however, what he found was - nothing. An empty, pristine garden. He turned to check the garden behind him... [b]"Surprise!"[/b] Several voices rang out, sending Sam jumping backwards, startled. The startled puzzlement disappeared when Frodo led a group of Hobbits dressed in party clothes out of the trees. [B]"Master Frodo, don't [i]do[/i] that, sir!"[/B] Frodo's only response was a cheeky grin as he began to direct the others in the proper placement of the party food. Once he seemed to realize that they had quite a firm grasp on the fact that they were not to trod on the crysanthemums, he turned to face his still-gaping servant. [B] "Don't do what?" "Throw me parties, sir...t'ain't necessary..."[/B] Frodo shook his head. [B]"Ah, Sam, but it is. Ten years you've been my gardener, and you've hardly ever taken a day off..."[/B] Sam just nodded. It [i]was[/i] the truth...Frodo's grin just grew. [B]"So, my gardener, just once...relax."[/B] He gestured at the party, now getting well on its way. [B]"I think there's a young Miss Cotton over by the dahlias..."[/B] And Samwise made the executive decision that maybe his master was right. [SIZE=1][COLOR=DarkOrange]Ecstasy - The image is nice, although the chest hair kinda squicks me out. >>; I like the black&grey contrast, and the picture is clear, and I rather like the fact that it's sidewise - more image included, instead of just having his head and shoulders... I'm not too fond of the fact that the avi doesn't match...
