Lena loked at the small white card that had been set down with her meal. I don't even want to know...do I open it now, or after I eat? Looking around, she noticed that some had already opened their cards; some were pocketing them...I believe I shall do both... She began to eat, despite her nerves. She had hardly eaten anything all day, and it all smelled so delicous...and tasted twice as better as it smelled. Her appetite began to fade, however, as she watched her fellow diners. All who had opened their cards looked...shocked; bemused, fearful...next to her, James had gone completly and utterly white. "I'm sorry," he said in a shaky tone that she wouldn't have associated with his seemingly constant confidence. "I appear to have lost my appetite." He stood, and began walking from the dining hall. Lena looked back at the card. Forgeting about her meal, she ripped it open with shaking hands. It can't be that bad, can it? It was. She read her card; reread it; reread it again... How...what kind of a request is this?! She looked up to see the Master staring at her; it was subtle, you could hardly tell, but he definetly was. Why is he...oh...James....James! She stood hurridly, taking an apple from one of the other trays before almost scurrying out of the dining hall. James seemed thouroughly torn up about the card; whatever he'd recieved must have been ten times as bad as hers...just thinking about her card made her flush as she tiptoed along behind him, making sure to keep her eyes on him. I don't think I care much for this game... She spent a few uncomfortable moments standing near the stairs, watching James, half-wishing he would turn around and see her. I can't do this... He seemed to gain control, if only a little, and made it the rest of the way up the stairs. His room's door had swung half closed before she'd made it up the stairs; she hurredly stuck her foot in the door, sliding in before it shut the rest of the way. Great, Lena...what do you do now? Sure he seems nice...but he could turn out to be an axe murderer...serial rapist...communist, even... She sat down in one of the armchairs, waiting for James to come out of his bathroom; he'd left the door open, she could just see his back as he splashed water on his face. This is only gonna work once...you'll have to think of something different now...maybe there are cameras? The bathroom door creaked a little as James came through it. He stopped, staring in shock. "W-what are you doing in here?" Lena hugged herself, trying to looked scared. Well...not even trying, she knew she looked scared already. "I - I can not stay in a room alone in a house like this. C-could I just stay in here tonight? I - you seemed like a gentleman, and...I just do not wish to be alone. I will be perfectly silent, you will not even know I am here..." She bit her lip, waiting for an answer. OOC: "...and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature...." - Edward Munch. Modified by us? Request Resident Evil banner and avi please...
Ozymandius Jones replied to mononoke_man's topic in Creative Works
Here you go, I hope you like them. I don't know if there was a second image you wanted to have in the avi (looks like there's supposed to be another link there, perhaps?), so I just used the same picture. I hope you don't mind. -
Hmm...I have a tendency to overuse ... actually. I use it far too much. I name characters odd things - Jackknife, Blisters and Squonk come easily to mind, although I have no real explanaition as to why the characters are named that. My biggest one is my tendency to write third-person-present tense. My best work is written in that tense; I'm not sure why. I also like to talk to my readers. It never turns out the way I want it to, though...

"That good enough for you?" Julie stared, midly awed. Now, that's cool...why couldn't you have had powers like that? We can't all be snow queens, picky...I didn't hear any complaining when I got you through precalc with an A... I wanted an A+... Oh, come now. Perfection is boring... As much as I hate to break up this witty banter... A cold voice brushed into Julie's thoughts...We went to the trouble of freezing that to cause your diversion, remember? Julie nodded at the goddess. "My apologies. Come on." While the librarians were busy trying to control the haywire air conditioner, Juli and Mia snuck back towards the closed stacks. There was a security gaurd, but he was absolutly no problem...no problem at all... "Hello there..." Julie smiled at the security gaurd, focusing on looking sweet and innocent. "How are you today?" The gaurd just frowned. Julie, I don't think he speaks English... That's becoming quite clear, thank you... Her Japanese wasn't that good...but it was passable. She repeated her last sentence. "I am very good today. Why are you here without a librarian?" Stuffed shirt...wee, fun... "[I came to see you...]" She sidled up to him, reaching for his hand (and his keys). To her annoyance, he back away, putting a hand on his walkie talkie. "[I'm sorry, I'm on duty.]" Julie ignored Mia and Hedylogos snickering, and narrowed her eyes. "[Fine. Be that way...] Meli Glossa..." The gaurd's eyes glazed. "[May I have your keys, please?]" The gaurd handed them over. "[Thank you.]" She unlocked the door, and stalked inside. If anything, there were more books in here than in the open stacks. She sighed. "This is going to be fun..."

"I mean, it's only fair, really." Lena smiled weakly, looking down at her plate. The man - James - was very polite...but she hated personal questions. "I am here for the people." James frowned slightly, looking midly confused. Lena tried to explain. "I...do not have many friends. I am tired of being lonely." She glanced back up the table. "The letter said this "Master" could grant...companionship." She blushed faintly. "I do not often believe letters promising anything, but when the bank deposit was real, I could not help but think the rest of it might be as well." Why are you telling people information like that? You are only opening yourself up to be hurt again... "Plus, as an artist and a college student...the money was a rather large incentive. I don't have very much of it, as I'm sure you understand..." She laughed at her inner voice. There, happy? College students EVERYwhere need money. Was that non-personal enough? The little nagging voice went quiet...for now.

Lena hurried up to her room. The Master of Games was....intresney. She fell back to her favorite disciption for every thing. ochyen intrensey.... She was already beginning to wonder about what she had gotten herself into as she reached her room. I wonder if Mother's even noticed I'm not in Moscow...probably not. She started to reach for her suitcase when the thought occured to her...everything you need... No, that would be just...creepy. She pulled open the closet door. There was a large assortment of dresses; the kind she'd often seen in the higher class shops, that'd she'd never dare to go into for fear that she'd break something. Her hand shook slightly as she took one of the dresses off its hanger...it was the perfect size. Something is not right here... She sat down at the desk, playing with one of the boxes of colored pencils. There has to be a catch... She found herself sketching; it was one of those things her hands just did when she was nervous. Time seemed to lose all meaning as she watched her pencil fly. She had half of a rough outline of the Manor done when she came to her sense. Dinner, you g'lopost! Not drawing! She dropped the pencils and practically flew through getting changed, rushing to find the dining room. To her relief, while she wasn't the first person there, she was by no means the last...she took a seat further down the table from Caine and Maria, and waited for the others. She sat and played with her silverware, not paying much attention, when someone touched the back of her chair. She froze slightly, glancing sideways to see someone gesture at the chair next to her. "This seat taken?" OOC: Tag, anyone who feels like it.

"Uh... please don't speak," Dave half-snickered, but stopped when Renee glared daggers at him. "Aye, she was a bit...soused, y'might say. 'pearently she 'as no self-control." He shook his head. "Poor girl. I -ow!" The spoon Renee had flung at him clattered to the floor. He rubbed his head, smiling at Alexia as he set the spoon on a nearby table. Renee crossed her arms, and seemed to doze off again. "'m sorry we didn't - I didn't think t'invite you...that would've been better than jus' t'three of us...'course, then you'da 'ad an 'eadache, too...but it was late, an' I didn't know where y'room was, exactly...didn't want t'run into that Yuna girl...or Maximus..." He shivered. The national library. A place of learning...of peace...quiet...serenity...a goddess reincarnate, walking back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.... I'd forgotten just how action-oriented Khione always was... Well, can't you do something to get her to stop pacing? She's distracting me. Sure enough, Mia and Khione reached the end of one of the stacks, turned, and paced back up. Julie tried to focus on the old, tattered book she was holding. "He did not what an old man of Titan blood might have done, show the Titan race in his speaking picture, not Kronos or Phanes more primeval still, nor the breed of Titan Helios as old as the universe itself..." How the heck is that useful?! It's not, I could've told you that... Hedylogos, I don't even know what that said! s'ok, neither do I. Julie growled outloud. "None of these are useful! At all! They're all recent, or translated really really badly!" Mia just raised an eyebrow. "Told you it'd be boring..." She turned, about to head back up the stacks. I hate teenagers. Oh, calm down, you were one not long ago...you're only a year older. Mia paused, staring down her row. She pointed at the small sign pinned to the self. "Is that helpful?" The sign said, in three different languages,
Due to the delicate nature of some of our texts, a majority of the Greek literature, such as the actual scrolls, is kept in the closed stacks. Please ask a librarian to direct you. These texts may not be removed from the library, but you are more than welcome to read them on the premises. Thank you and have a nice day.
Julie smirked. "May not be removed from the library, huh? We'll just have to see about that..." She headed towards the circulation desk. It was staffed by four women - all formidable librarian-types...hair pulled back in buns, glasses...they were the type who'd whack you over the knuckles with a ruler for whispering. Julie stopped short of the desk. "Hey, Mia...I need a distraction. Up for it?" Mia and Khione both just nodded. Julie smiled. "Just...don't kill anyone. They're only librarians..." She walked the rest of the way to the desk, smiling sweetly. "Excuse me, ma'am, but I need to see the closed stacks..." OOC: That give ya something to work from, Lyuann?

Name: Matsuri Yuki Age: 29 Relation to Partner: Kouu and Yuki are twin weapons merchants, taught to fight by their parents, who felt it was unsafe for merchants to be weaklings. Yuki was a calm girl, always, always controlled. Her father taught her that while control was good, to always be controlled was to be predictable, and that in order to become a better fighter, she must loosen her control. They are currently on their way home after finalizing a transaction with a warlord, for which they demanded part of the payment in advance. Fighting Style: Smooth and graceful, with the occasional seemingly-misplaced move. People rarely realize that the misstep was on purpose, meant to draw them closer. She isn't one to take unnecessary risks; but if a gamble is needed to gain the upper hand she will take it. She prefers to fight from a distance, using the naginata's blade, but she's not above wacking people with its staff or butt either. Only rarely does she rely on the tantos. Very graceful, and can be very charming, as well as very shrewd, when she needs to be. Art Messing with Photoshop [Image Heavy]
Ozymandius Jones replied to Ezekiel's topic in Creative Works
I'm great? *blushes* Aw, shucks... Ok. Enough modesty. Critique time... 1. I don't really like the image. The technique is good, the colors are nice, but the picture...eh. But that's not your fault at all. My other complaint you already voiced: the text doesn't really go...it seems to be an odd size for the space you have available. 2. I like this one. The image is cute, the colors go really well, and smudging is one of the tools I use a lot. If you could find a nice font, I think what Retri thinks it's missing is a name...but that may just be me. 3. I also agree with Retri on this. It looks like you just spent 3 minutes on it. There's waaaay to much white, and the duplication/layering/whatever just didn't turn out all that good. 4. I don't see anything made "worse" here...I like the colors, but the picture...again, I don't know why, I just don't care for it that much. That aside, it's laid-out very nicely. I like the black grass-like design in the background...is that part of the original pic, or is it that brush? If it's the brush, that's one of the ones I like to play with too.. 5. I like thay layout, the kid is cute, the colors are nice...but yeah, the text has issues. Play with the link Retri gave you...oddly, I think a grunge text would look nice. Strange... Other than what Retri said, I also suggest just going slap happy with effects...try random things - painting on top of gradiants, layer fading, things like that...before long, it's easy to tell what looks nice and what looks tacky. ^__^ -
Ack...did anyone get the number of that truck that hit me...? Dave woke slowly and painfully...his head felt as if it had been inhabited by a marching band...after said marching band's bus had run him over. He all but fell out of bed. Note to self: drinking is bad... After a shower, however, he felt oddly refreshed, his aches all but gone. He made his way to the dining area, coming across Renee as he did. She was sulking in a chair, far away from the sunny windows. He smiled down at her. "Not feelin' well this mornin'?" She moved her head only slightly, narrowing her eyes until she looked like a very, very angry cat. She answered slowly, in a low but very clear voice. "I hate you." "No, y'don't." "Yes, I do. I hate you, and I never wish to speak to you again." "Aw, don't be that way, luv...last night you loved everybody..." "I...wha?" "Don't you remember? You tried t'kiss the cabbie..." Renee just moaned, raising her hand to her head. "I hate you even more now...go away!" Chuckling, Dave headed to find himself food.

Lena said goodbye to Imogen, and found her way to her room. She swung her door open, almost expecting sheets and cobwebs. What she saw instead was a windowless room, draped in silvery blue silk wall hangings and warmly lit by two small lamps. There was a massive oak desk, stocked full of sketch paper, and the best colored pencils she'd ever laid her hands on. Her fingers practically itched to try them - but the loudspeaker crackled on. She jumped.
>>>......I see everyone has made themselves comfortable in my home. I hope you've found everything to your liking...I request all of you to meet me outside in the back of the mansion. There is a fountain in the middle of the garden which I would like to meet all of you for the first time...please make haste...there I will formaly introduce everyone.
Lena frowned. Formally introduce? Ah, well... She headed outside to the fountain. The British woman she'd spoken to earlier was conversing with a young Japanese lady, so she just sat next to the fountain in silence.

Alask rolled her eyes. Cousins...the whole mess hall probably heard that.... She stalked gracefully back towards her room, glancing over her shoulder to see her cousin practically skipping with excitment. She shook her head. He's acting like a child... Hiowever, once she was in her room with the door closed, she allowed herself to smile. "YES! Finally, something INTERESTING!" She began grabbing robes, data chips and other necessities, shoving them into her duffel pack. The Rim...everyone was interested in the Rim...the Yuuzan Vong had come from beyond there, as had the Ssi Ruuk...but she, in no way, could imagine that the two bloodthirsty races were the only life beyond...she grinned, picking up her lightsaber...she hit the power switch...the sunny yellow blade shot out, humming with power. She shut it off, clipped it to her belt, and picked up her bag, heading to meet the others.
-
Lena sat away from the others...the limosene had dropped her off here...and it seemed that everyone else had met; talking amongst themselves...she sighed. Alone again, as always... She had been planning to walk off, look around the area a little, when she saw another young woman, sitting against one of the walls. With nothing better to do, and not really wanting to be alone, she walked over to join her. "Priv'yet...you are also here for contest?" She flushed slightly, knowing her English wasn't so good. "I am Yelena Korolev, but mostly I am called Lena..." She held out a hand that trembled oh, so slightly... OOC: Tag, Gabe

It was ten a.m. in Moscow...Yelena Korolev was between classes, hiding (as typical) in the library. As usual, the first thing she did was check her mail. Not that anyone she wanted to hear from ever wrote to her... "vwi emyet posta!" "Ack!" The cheerful voice rang out loudly in the silence of the library. Half a dozen heads turned to stare at her. Lena could feel her face flushing as she slumped in her chair, trying to go unnoticed. The mail program had apparently been based on AOL or some-such provider...and somebody had left the volume far too high. She was still pink, she could tell. She glared at the innocent computer. "Mail, then?" She clicked to her inbox...probably some silly, pointless forward. The subject line caught her eye...Hello, my friend... Who would write to me with that as a subject?! Curious, she clicked the message.
Hello, I?m writing to you, my friend, to congratulate you on winning an all expense paid trip to the coast of Scotland to live in my mansion for as long as you wish. Beware, this is no ordinary mansion mind you. Within the walls of my home, everything you ever wished for will be granted to you. And I mean....everything. All the deepest, darkest desires of your heart will be yours. Whatever pleasure you seek for yourself...will be granted to you. If you desire love, sex, money, drugs, food...all of life?s commodities will be yours. If you wish to accept this honor, please...simply reply back with a smile yes or no; and immediate transportation plans will be set in place for you to arrive. Upon arriving, there are three rules which you must obey while in my home. 1) You must obey your cards... 2) You must stay in the light... 3) You must never go into the Angelic Wing... That is all..,everything will be explained when you arrive...any questions that you have will not be with held from you prior to entering the mansion. You may be asking yourself...??why would I bother coming to a place such as this??? I?ll tell you why...if you play my little game...if you last living in the house, you will earn half of my family fortune, which comes to around thirteen billion dollars. I?m not joking, I?ve come to realize the worthlessness of money...so I?ve decided to give most of it away to the ones who I find to be worthy. And I will wait as long as it takes to find the right ones. So; whomever can stay within the house for six months, will be declared the winner...and the thirteen billion will be split between those who are left. But hear me...once you enter the mansion, you may not leave the grounds of the estate. So there you have it; come to my mansion...where all your dreams come true...and have the opportunity to win thirteen billion dollars. No strings attached...and believe me...it will be worth your while. Oh, one more thing...do not tell anyone of this, for we want to make this as smooth and without interruptions from the outside world. Don?t worry...we?ll know if you tell...which will automatically revoke your chances of coming to my mansion. As clarity for your honesty and silence...I have taken the liberty of electronically sending ten thousand dollars to your personal back account, as a token of my friendship too you. That is all I will tell you...once you reply back to this email...you will have an escort waiting outside your house within two days to bring you to the mansion. I have chosen you because I feel you to be worthy of such a reward; for your dedication to society, your love and compassion, your leadership, your strength through turmoil, and last but not least...for just who you are. Catch ya later... Sincerely, The Master of Games...
Lena blinked. "That was...intresney..." The whole email sounded like the product ofa lunatic...a depraved lunatic, at that...but the line...the line about love caught her attention. After four years...it would be nice to feel cared for again...she hadn't felt appreciated since she was 20...plus the money... She could be free; even if the thirteen billion wasn't real...if even the ten thousand was true, that'd be more than enough to pay off most of her loans...she quickly opened her bank's website, typing in her account number. She crossed her fingers slightly before clicking "Available funds". She took one look - and sighed, falling back in her chair. Her measely small savings account wasn't so measely anymore...it was all she could do not to yell, not to run out of the school right then and there...but if this was all some stress-induced dream, she'd regret doing that...she quickly began to compose a response in her head; preparing it to be typed the instant she was done that afternoon.... Dear Master of Games... I have considered my options, and I would be most appreciative of a chance to stay at your mansion...

But, unlike the other children, who played at being Skywalker or Vader or other famous Jedi, all Gartrek cared for was the lightsabers. Swords of light that appeared at the push of a button seemed like magic to the girl...so when it was discovered she had some Force potential, she was more than happy to go...it meant she'd get to see the way the things wored FINALLY. After seven years of training, however, her powers were decided to be more or less a loss. She was allowed to stay, however...and that's how she met Rav Lightlancer, a fellow Tattooineian and lightsaber artisan. They fell in love, and were happily married for 30 years...until Rav was killed in an accident. She was heartbroken, and prepared to return home to Tattooine...but decided to stay on when she realized that she would be abandoning the school. Lightsaber colour and type: As a creator of lightsabers, Gartrek has over twenty, all shades of the rainbow, but she only fights with one; a single bladed pearlescent white. Most likely to turn to: Since Gartek's Force skills are minimal, light or dark doesn't have that much sway. She, however, allies herself with the Light side. -

Dave stared out the hotel windows at the lights below...it was midnight, but he couldn't sleep. His head was too full...thoughts raging through it at a million cycles a second. He sighed, turning away from the window, just in time to see Renee pace down the hall for the fifth time in twenty minutes... "Fine, whatever...forget this..." If he couldn't rest, he wouldn't. He headed down the hall to Dimitri's room. Why are you doing this again? He answered his own mental question...Because I can't sleep, and if I can't sleep, no one should. He knocked on the door. Dimitri opened it, looking about as tired as Dave. 'Yes?" "Look, I can't sleep, and Renee can't either...I'm goin' out, I'm gonna ask if she feels like comin'...want t'come with?" Dimitri frowned. "Where to?" Dave shrugged. "Out. See what's around...anythin' to be out of the hotel..." Dimitri brightened slightly. "Bar?" Dave nodded. "Most likely..." Dimitri dissappered back into his room, reappearing with his coat. "I will come then." Dave led the way down the hall. Renee was making her sixth pass, coming back up. She stopped when she saw them. "What, you can't sleep either?" Dave nodded. "We're just gonna go out, wander 'round, maybe go t'a bar or somethin'...want t'come?" Renee nodded. "Anything to get out of here..." The three of them went out...the first bar was only a block away. Dave shook his head as Dimitri headed straight for the bar... The second bar only happened after the pool players in the first bar had started harassing Renee. Dimitri had...disagreed with their stance, and the bouncer had disagreed with Dimitri's stance. The second bar had been a bit better...until the barkeep decided he didn't like "Brits." By the third bar, things were starting to get a little fuzzy... OOC: Three foreigners, loose and bored in DC...oh, help...I get the feeling Starr, Billy and my characters are gonna have headaches in the morning...and technically, this is "bonding"...:p
