Thanks for the feedback guys. Little clarification on the whole muffled Korey situation. I don't have an external microphone like Boo does, so I have to use my computers' built in microphone. When we record the podcast, I'm practically shouting anyways. Otherwise you really wouldn't hear me. So yeah, we're working on EP.2 and brainstorming ideas. (Glad everyone likes Boo though :V )

Boo and I have been planning this for quite some time, and after working the kinks out with recording the podcast, the first episode is coming to you! The show will be about roughly 30 minutes and we're hoping that it'll have enough content to keep you guys satisfied while still remaining on the short side. To keep things relevant with Otakuboards, Boo and I will be selecting a few topics we want to highlight from across the forums and hopefully generate some more discussion in the threads themselves (adding our own little flair, of course =] ). I know what you're thinking. "Korey how can I get involved with the podcast?". Well, it's actually rather simple and encouraged! We'll be taking user submitted questions every week and answer them. Almost no question is too taboo (but try to keep it within site rules, we want to be a PG-13 podcast) and we will select only the best questions, so cook up some good ones for us! <img src='http://www.otakuboards.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Also, if you want to be a guest on the podcast in the future, you'll have to either PM Boo or myself and let us know. We require that you have Skype and we will try to make a time that works for everyone. So yeah! The first EP should be out by next week. We're aiming for Sunday evening. I'll update the thread when the podcast is up. Be on the lookout, OBers.
that's not a fun thing to say! why bother complaining about American football if you're gonna say they are equal now. \:
Who's complaining? However, to continue on with the thread.
Big hits are a huge part of the entertainment side of football. Same with NASCAR and big blowout wrecks, and hockey and body-checks or rink-brawls. But along with that are effective hits. If you hit someone hard, head on, give yourself a concussion, and you didn't tackle him in the process, your fans aren't going to be as happy. (His fans will love it, though.) Lead with the shoulder, hit hard and wrap him up, and you get the hard hit, the tackle, and the safe factor all at the same time. So yes, while I consider the rule linked in my post to be an idiotic implementation of a good idea, I feel the decision to crack down on helmet-led hits is a good one and will go a long way to solving both problems.
Enterainment is a huge factor of the game, but the main factor the the players are disputing is that hits like that are hard to avoid 100% of the time. While prevention is a huge issue and the less concussions we can diagnose the better. There's something to be said for fundamental tackling, which is what most players in the Pop Warner stages are taught. However, most NFL players do look for the big hit because of the aforementioned entertainment factor. What I contest is...if the defensive player can't lead with the helmet...then what about the offensive running back that's barreling through the offensive line with his helmet down? Can he get penalized for leading with his head?

NFL cracks down on big hits. If you guys have been following the NFL at all, this has become the hot button topic. After several hard hits this past week in the NFL, many of which have resulted in concussions. In fact, this year in the NFL, the concussion toll has risen to 27 reported cases, which has risen by 14 cases at this point last season. The NFL has gradually increased the severity of the punishment of illegal "flagrant hits", most of which involve helmet to helmet collisions or hard hits to the head. Three players were fined and later suspended for their hits this past week. James Harrison of the Steelers was the biggest target. Harrison was fined 75 thousand dollars for his hits on Browns recievers Josh Cribbs and Mohammed Massaquoi. Further investigation into the hits reveal that while his hits did have helmet to helmet contact, there was no flag thrown on either play. The NFL has since updated its policy on illegal hits to include a fine and immediate suspension for a game. This has drawn a lot of fire by NFL players, who say that this rule will interfere with the game, which is violent by nature. The league claims that the policy is to increase player safety in regards to hard hits on defenseless players that are unable to protect themselves from such hits. So, how do you enforce safety in a violent game such as American football? While player safety is important in the game, players play with the full knowledge that this game has its risks and that they may be on the receiving end of some brutal hits. Personally, having such a policy in place is rather harsh. If the hit draws a flag and an ejection, then the league should consider handing out a suspension or a fine. However, as the case was with Harrison, hits that DON'T draw flags shouldn't draw fines from the league. This kind of rule causes the NFL to lose some of its luster, because big hits are part of the game. This may cause some players (read: defenders) to put on kid-gloves when dealing with hits, because it may be called or reviewed by the league and may end up in a fine or suspension or both. It also leads to the NFL monitoring EVERY hard hit to see if it was legal. Pardon me for pointing out the obvious, but isn't that what an official is present on the field for? So, what should the plan be? Should the NFL keep the new policy or should they just let the players play?
I mean I think it's pretty obvious it's a video for people who already support the cause and a way to raise money
So, if the Westboro baptist church was accepting donations..... I can't agree that just because a message is aimed for the anti-homophobic movement, that the methods behind the message should be allowed a free pass. Like others have said, the message boiled down to a bunch of mindless cursing and generally lowbrow tactics used to try and spread the message. There's better, more civilized ways to spread the message. I was a supporter of Stonewall back home in the states and it's really a great organization run by both straight and homosexual people to promote tolerance. Heck, if Sir Ian McKellen can be spreading peace throughout the land, then it has to be good. So, I'm seriously considering taking Kickboxing at the community center. 40 bucks a month for twice a week isn't half bad in my opinion. Practically a steal. I just hope I haven't lost all my flexibility.

So, I have a lot more free time now and I'd like to get this started up officially. I'm planning on doing a voice sample and per James's approval, I'd like to get on this as soon as possible. I also stumbled across this site which would allow us to host the podcast for free if we choose to upload through them. And if need be, we can always purchase more bandwith, if the podcast gets more popular.

The weather here in Europe is quite peculiar. After two rainy days (and a mostly cloudy week), we had a nice sunny day where it was 77 degrees out. So I donned my shorts and t-shirt and it was fantastic. Bought me a new 59/fifty hat and got a haircut! I'll post pics of my hat later.

I've tried coffee on several occasions and I've never really developed a taste for it. Probably the same reason I don't like beer. I don't like bitter tastes from liquids. So, usually I'll replace coffee with a soda and on the rare occasion an energy drink. But I've never been to the point where I needed either of those things to be able to stay up for work or school. However, I do enjoy the Vanilla Creme Frappucino's from Starbucks. Too bad the closest one to me is 45 minutes away in Manheim. Kaiserslautern is such a backwards place when it comes to enjoying the big city things. Sure, you'll have a soccer team, but you won't get a danged Starbucks in 2010?
OK, seriously, this mostly just makes me hate the media right now. A small group of dumb***** (really, 50 PEOPLE?) in Florida are burning the Qu'ran and somehow this has become a giant national issue. Not to say this hasn't happened before but I'm just getting really tired of it. And constitutionally they have every right to do such a thing, IMO. I think they're ******* idiots but I don't think what they are doing is illegal.
I agree with this. I don't how see how this is any more constitutional than ...say burning a Harry Potter book because supposedly it teaches kids witchcraft. However, both acts are in bad taste and show a lack of tolerance in society towards a perceived threat. What throws me is that the people associate radical Islamic teachings as 100% of what the Qu'ran teaches. When in fact, the Qu'Ran teaches a lot of the same lessons that the NIV Christian Bible teaches. But there are some sects of Christianity that still think that Yaweh is the only God in the sky and those who think otherwise are lesser lifeforms or even potential threats to homeland security. It's so called "religious acts" that people use as the basis for "Freedom of Speech" cards. While the action of burning another religion's book is not particularly threatening or even a danger to the Islamic community, I wonder if it can be classified as hate speech because the act itself doesn't have any sort of merit to it besides ignorance and lack of tolerance.
Back in El Paso, there was a sandstorm so vicious that it took most of the city's power. It only got worse as the afternoon passed into evening. By 5 p.m. our small neighborhood was filled with the hum of generators, though you could barely hear it over the sandstorm. I was an idiot and decided to see what would happen if I went outside in the middle of this. I ended up with very bad bruising all over, I looked like I had taken a shower in dirt, and my eyes and mouth were still seeping sand a few days after the storm passed. The first year I moved up to WNY, I was excited for snow. It was October and I was asking my friend, "When do we see snow?!" She told me not to get excited because it wouldn't snow until late November. That very week, it snowed. I woke up Friday morning to darkness and my parents saying that school was cancelled. The snow was up to my hips, which was great! Of course, we were still living in an apartment at the time because we hadn't bought a house yet. We got out our generator and chained it to the apartment's stairway. We then proceeded to enjoy being the only room with power. Glee~! School was out for a week.
Where you there for the floods back in '06? It rained so hard and quickly, there was water about knee deep in El Paso. It's probably not much for some folks, but to a City like EP that doesn't have a lot in the ways of irrigation it was a disaster area. Cars were getting stuck on the street, people's homes were damaged. I felt really bad for our friends, because the water had seeped into their home and basically made their entire bottom floor a huge mess. The damage was so bad in El Paso that they called it an official disaster area and had FEMA come in and help with repairs to damaged homes. A lot of the homes in the Lower Valley area of El Paso were pretty much wrecked, because all the run-off from the mountains came ended up there. I was registering for my Senior year of High School back then, so I ended up stuck at school for a good portion of the day until my Mom could come and pick me up (I wasn't about to drive in that kind of weather.)
