1. I'm a child of the summer, so I normally dig that kind of weather. I like nice, warm, sunny places. Although I must admit, I don't do well with humidity of any fashion. When you live in the desert like I do, coming home feeling sticky after being outside is pretty disgusting. I do also like rain, because it's a momentary reprieve from the sun around these parts. Don't get me wrong, I love the sun...but too much and I start to kinda not want it being around so often...or talking so much.;) That being said, I don't really like cold weather. Snow, ice, frost, icy wind. Name any sort of cold weather, and I don't like it. I mean, yeah I'd be up for a snowball fight here and there, but I don't get the rationale behind people who actually LIKE being out in cold weather. I guess its the same rationale why people don't get why I like being out in warm or hot weather, but the thought eludes me. It's frickin miserable outside, and you're telling me "Nice weather eh? Don't you just love snow?" No, Mr. Eskimo. No.
2. Especially when you know that when you die, you become a monster because your heart gets ripped out of your chest cavity.... :x Adding another game to my list. Mario Kart. Here me out on this. This would be every person's dream. You ride around in a go cart and fire miscellaneous objects at other drivers, thus sabotaging them. You can fall into all sorts of hazardous things (bottomless abysses, acid, lava, freezing water) and be saved by a Lakitu. If you're falling behind in the race, you get all the best items so you can race your way to the top. So no race is unwinnable. Sounds like a rip snortin' good time to me.
3. I'm not sure what you mean...are you talking about Otakuboards or theOtaku.com? As far as I know, you can't really "Submit" anything to Otakuboards, but you're more than welcome to post pictures or art work in our Art Studio , which I have provided the link for. If it's for theotaku.com, then there are set limitations and rules on what gets submitted to the site. For that, you would need to read the Submission Guidelines, for which I have also provided the Link. Let me know if that helps you at all. ~Korey
4. I'm sure this has been mentioned previously in this thread, but let's try to avoid merely just listing games, because it doesn't really merit any sort of discussion...rather than just present a list. Maybe if you could try to provide some insight as to why you play the games for so long? 100 hours is definitely not a pebble thrown in the ocean's worth of an achievement. I finally logged over 100 hours on Final Fantasy Tactics the other day and was rather pleased with myself. This game really took the series in a new direction and showed that turn based, heavily menu driven, stationary charcters, weren't the only thing Square was good at. We got turned based, menu driven characters that could move! OH SNAP.
5. Both games are excellent and have features that the other doesn't boast (GH has customizable riffs and songs, whereas Rock Band does not). It's really up to you which one to buy. Either one is gonna cost a fortune, however....at least for the whole set of instruments. I'd say if you already have Rock Band 1, then go ahead and buy the second Rock Band, so it'll save you money. If you don't, then might as well shed tears now for your soon to be gone money.
6.
Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories[/COLOR']-I have played the original for the gamboy yrs ago but to be one the PS2 were there are voices I was like no freaking way good & fluent like the other two the only thing bothering me was Sora's voice that's his older voice shouldn't they used his younger voice*\*same goes for Riku & Kairi*
Well, seeing as Haley Joel Osment is significantly older now, I think it would be pretty hard to do any sort of "younger Sora" work for KH, unless you tried to resample some of the audio from the original and made the sound effects and voices for the game that way. I think Square Enix decided to tread the easier path this time. As for me, I recently got back into King of Fighters, most notably the 2003 edition. I was never really a fan of SNK/NeoGeo fighters, but after learning the system and finding it much easier than most Capcom games (by a wide margin), I'd say that it's becoming one of my favorite games to play.
7. Never mind that, I only see one thing of interest. lolfotune. No no, I jest. I don't really know about all the hub-bub that's going on before the inauguration, but I can certainly understand all the security measures going on for President Obama's inauguration. This really kinda pulls into question... "So he throws a massive party that costs this much money, but he wants to reform our economy?" but it will provide a stimulus to the DC area, where hotels are booked and you won't get 4 blocks near the door of a restaurant in the area. Good thing for a severely ailing town, but I don't know that all the celebration should be THAT big for something that is normally seen as an honorable and leaning towards the serious side for important events.
8.
But I'm also not sure that I see the need for gamers to react defensively about news pieces of this sort in a day and age where video games aren't a creepy niche thing anymore. If the kid had been into slasher flicks or whatever instead, no doubt his lawyers would have used that as a defense. It's their job.
I do see it and maybe it's not as much of a creepy niche thing anymore, they are still seen as a sedentary sort of lifestyle for those who play games more than casually. I'm not trying to defend my status as a gamer, simply because I know the difference and I'm not as immature and childish as this kid was to blast my parents over an obviously unhealthy habit that he had. However the whole "my kid was into slasher flicks, so that's what spurned him into thinking like this" defense is lucid at best. Just because you are exposed to these images doesn't make it okay to go slashing people on the streets a la Jack the Ripper. The child did have a problem and it wasn't associated with "differentiating between virtual reality and actual reality" problem that arises in most of these cases. His parents tried to limit his video game time, because it was obviously ruining his health. He got mad. He shot them. No amount of quasi-intellectual hob-knobbery or defense attorney chicanery is going to help this kid avoid some serious jail time. Not even Phoenix Wright could defend this guy. This case is pretty much a slam dunk in my opinion. But onto my point about differentiating reality from video games. If there is an issue with a person who can't differentiate the two worlds, then it becomes readily apparent that the person needs possible psychiatric help, but only BEFORE the issue becomes a problem. It becomes harder to use that defense when the person in question has killed 20 people and is trying to claim that Nico Belicic spurred him on to doing it. Violent video games are no different than any other form of agressive media. They do hold an influence on emotion, but not a significant amount on emotions to trigger someone to do violent acts. This isn't Zoolander. The fact is, people make conscious decisions to do what they do, regardless of what they were influenced by. No amount of violent video games can seriously augment the already violent soul.
9. If I had the option of going into a Video Game, I would enter some sort of racing game , where I get to drive fast, expensive cars and wreck them with almost no consequence, as a sufficient amount of credits would appease any disgruntled mechanic. Although I'm sure it's the same in real life...right? Gran Turismo has to be how it's done. If any other game, I'd probably be in Animal Crossing, just because it's a less severe form of real life, where there is less of a penalty for lethargic activity besides a stern talking to by the local town motormouth.
10. While this is certainly a tragedy to hear and sets people who actually play games into an even deeper negative stereotype, I echo the sentiment shared by most who have posted here. I play video games, a lot. I'm not going to lie, cheat or swerve around that. I play games almost on a daily basis, for more than 4 hours. While this isn't on a consistent basis, I do take my games pretty seriously because I play mostly competitive fighting games and I try to perfect little things. For me, that's a challenge and that's my anti-drug. Some people say it's an unhealthy habit. I say this to them. "Know any other second-semester sophomores with a 4.0 who are sports reporters for their local newspapers?" I grew up in the "gangsta rap" era of hip-hop and the sex-infused, vice filled world of rock and roll (with some grunge mixed in). Yet I never shot anyone, rampaged through a school or anything of that sort. I always keep myself in control of my mind and realize that while I play video games, they aren't real and this is just something I do for enjoyment. The kids who did Columbine were mentally unstable kids, as was this one. The bottom line is this. The kid made a conscious decision to kill his parents. Master Chief, Duke Nukem or Ryu Hayabusa had nothing to do with it.
11. The Staff -The staff members have been great to me and great for keeping OB running, even if we do go a little crazy sometimes. Good stuff to everyone. Here's to another good year on the OB. Ace -Even though we pick on him a lot, Ace is a fixture on OB. Couldn't imagine it without him. Where else would I get my funnies from? Plus the Ace O'Tourney series just busts my gut every time I read it. Fantastic work, sir. Stephanie -Eeee, hard to say anything that hasn't already been said. She just oozes nifty. Nathan and Indi Getting Married -While not the first OB marriage, it is definitely one of the big events for the year. Here's to the happy couple, again. Cheers.
12. EEE i dunno the model, but it's a Gateway laptop. I asked a friend and he said it was probably the port getting knocked out, which a good soldering would be in order. I guess I just need to have someone look at it.
13.
No problem. I'm contemplating changing my user title to "Free tech support."
Nyurr hurr hurr. We could use you. Since your free, I'll be glad to [strike] whore you out[/strike] recommend you for all questions I can't solve myself. Thanks for being such a big help. Now here's my problem. I have a really nice laptop. All of a sudden it stopped holding a battery charge and my charger doesn't get recognized so I can't run it off the charger either, much to my dismay. Any possible ideas on what it may be? I surmised that it was the port where the charger gets plugged in got knocked loose. I'm just hoping it's not what people have being saying it might be. Internal Power System Failure :'(
14. I'll tell you what's scary....playing Goldeneye on 00 agent after not touching the game in over a decade. All sorts of accuracy problems, being fragged by the first guard on the Dam mission, random spurts of "What the hell am I supposed to do again?" and various lol moments like "Why does everything have a small explosion when you shoot it?" Needless to say, I haven't slept much these past few days. Some say it's finals week, but I blame Rare for that. You hear that Rare? YOU are responsible for my pain!
15.
Woah.... o_O Thank you everyone. I don't really know what to say other than I promise to do my best for Crystia. 17. The hardest thing about Bison in A3 is that he throws his super (OMG SUPER PYSCHO CRUSHHAA) at random intervals and it's completely invincible on start-up, so even if you're in the middle of a crouching roundhouse, it will go right through him. If you get caught attacking or jumping, expect to eat about 2/3 of your bar's worth of damage. Heaven forbid you pick X-Ism too (WTF no air guard, nice going Capcom). As far as Guy goes, it's just a matter of controlling WHAT do you do with him. You almost never want to do his running move (QCF K I believe) unless you're full screen or 3/4 screen, because the time intervals between when you throw the initial move and when you pick the move for the mixup (the throw, the sweep, or the overhead kick) is quite large. Guy is best in V-Ism, as are most characters. With Guy, all you really have to do is find a point to activate, beat the initial surge of their move (most likely a mashed one) and do his Variable combos (Guy has 3). I would tell you them, but I don't really play Guy too often to remember them. I know it involves canceling his shoulder/elbow until you reach the corner and then you can hit the pseudo hurricane kick motion while in the corner. Shoryuken.com has a great section for the Alpha series, so give that a look.
18.
Well, that's why we'd give you a few weeks after deciding on the game to get it. And since Grim Fandango is nearly 10 years old, you can easily torrent it without fear of moral implications.
Speak for yourself. My soul would be ravaged if I ever did that. This is a good idea, but making the first game something that is not READILY accessible is kinda silly. I think if we are looking for classic games, you should start with something that is easy to obtain, even if you have to get a PC emulator for it. Maybe start with games like Super Mario Bros or F-Zero or anything of that nature. That way, people can find the roms, d/l them and play the game as opposed to doing some sort of torrenting (which some systems just CAN NOT do, due to their connections [people still use dial-up?]). So I'd say we need to stick to games that are easy to download for people across the spectrum, because not all of us can just torrent whatever we want (I can, but meh).
19. Sounds like a plan, but maybe you should be pitching this to SEGA? Just a thought. Sonic Heroes did sell well, seeing as it made the Greatest Hits list for Sony and I also believe it did the same with XBox and Gamecube (Platnium Hits and Player's Choice I believe). However, it didn't receive tremendous reviews from the critics, due to the shallow game play and the same ol' same ol' appeal that the game had to fans of Sonic. It was a decent game, but there were a few pronounced flaws with it. Namely the camera...it still hasn't been fixed since Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. Online multi player does seem like fun, especially if they tried to model it similarly to The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, where you can't progress past certain parts of the levels without your teammates. That makes exploring the levels much more entertaining rather than just everyone doing their own thing. Plus, the teammate aspect was important in Sonic Heroes, so why not put it in for SH:Online? CHAOS EDIT: Whoop, missed the Sonic Heroes thread. Gonna move it to there.
20. I had someone relate this to me when I was going through tough times, and I think it'd be good for you to hear this as well. "Strong people don't complain, they don't question why things happen. Even when they are at their weakest, the strongest people stay solid under the biggest amount of pressure. The world could be ending around them, and yet they still chug forward. Fall down six times, get up seven." It's important in this sort of situation that you try to find some light in the situations around you and not focus on the negative, even if it's currently enveloping you. Take some time for yourself after your grandfather's funeral. Go out to your favorite spot, take some friends, enjoy life. It works wonders, trust me. Most importantly.... Live life for yourself and only yourself.
21. People are just now realizing that the media is more marketing "news as entertainment" rather than "news as information"? That's what happens when the media is owned by companies that make these sorts of films (Disney, for example, owns ESPN, ABC, Buena Vista....etc.) While it may be better to talk about the films as they are and their critical acclaims and faults, it's not what you're gonna see from these guys who work those stories. They often spin them in the "bizarre and unusual" news value, trying to see the hidden message, trend or weird attribute of a given story. That's why you'll see all sorts of squee-ing girls being interviewed while waiting in line to see Twilight instead of people actually looking at the film and saying what it is and what it's not. People are more interested in the PHENOMENA that is Twilight, not the actual movie or series of novels it's based on.
22. It was hard for me to grasp the situation. They wanted to see how I could do? That was hardly anything. I'd destroyed a supermarket for God's sake. I lit a cig and took a long drag. The burning away of my lung tissue calmed my nerves. I finished it shortly after and I put it out on my arm. My arms have all sorts of marks from all the cigs I'd put away since I had started running from the eaters. "That can't be healthy" Grace said with a smug grin on her face. "That's nothing. I've done worse things to these arms of mine," I quipped back matching Grace's smugness. "I don't even want to know." "Korey, could you help us lift the escape hatch please?" Carol said with a surpisingly optimistic attitude. She realized we were being attacked, right? But it seemed like Carol had seen so much trauma already, no need to question her. She was gonna get us out alive. I lifted on the metal handle and it flew open after a few good tugs. "Dare I ask why this was made?" I asked, already knowing the answer. "The best escapes are the ones that go unnoticed," Eros responded, eyes never wavering from the Eaters in the distance. "We have 20 mins before they break through, best to say your prayers now." As we descended into the escape hatch, I was met with the scent of damp and moldy pipelines. Even if the Eaters didn't see us escape, they would know we did. I didn't see the point in running from them, but hey. Live to fight another day. I led the expedition through the dimly lit caverns. Following close behind me were the dogs and then Grace, Eros, Carol leading Ms. Young by the hand. "Ok Korey, you're gonna follow this path until it branches, then you want to go to the right. It will take us to the safe house." Carol said from the rear of the pack. I felt the ground tremble from above and dust fell from the roof of the passage. I coughed as the dust hit my lungs. I sure picked the right bad habit when I chose to smoke. "So what are we gonna do now?" I asked with an uneasyness in my voice. " Wait." Grace responded dryly. "It's the only thing we can do at this point. Wait and ride it out until things calm down." "Great. I'm good at that." I said under my breath.
23. I've had this sort of thing happen to me before, writing a letter (granted it was via e-mail) to a girl that I loved that had a boyfriend. Needless to say, it didn't turn out so good for me. However, I think it'd probably would work out more in your favor Gavin, as you are more of a charmer than myself. Personally I dig the one on one talks, because even if I'm insanely nervous, I can still manage to stammer out the words I need to say. May not be the stuff I wanted to say to the woman in question, but it's still something and the feeling is there. I'm one of those guys who is a good friend for a while then feelings kinda grow. The exception would be my current girlfriend, but that's a different story that doesn't need to be told. This thread already has enough cooties in it.
24. My vote goes for Rach, because his is simple and his font matches the elegance of the piano. All the other ones are a little too "busy" in my eyes, plus I prefer simple banners or sigs. Or maybe I'm just biased, who knows?
25. Well, you also really can't predict the number of shoppers that are attending the Black Friday event either. When doing sales like that, companies look at LAST year's revenues and that's what they send to these companies that they hire for security reasons. You can't really blame anyone in the situation but the people themselves. If people are THAT ravenous to have this year's hottest items at some ludicrous sales price at the crack of dawn, then I fear for the safety of people if the economy really turns bad. Personally, I had no problems shopping for what I wanted. I woke up around 9 and was out the door at 10, came back after eating lunch at 1. No long lines, I paid in the department I was shopping in. Real nice experience. I did avoid the problem stores, which I would advise everyone else avoiding too.
