1. I'm worried that these guys prey on people online, especially since that stuff is commonplace nowadays. I'm worried that they would use their NAMBLA stuff to seduce these young guys who are vulnerable to their emotions and make them make a bad decision. But as Rach said, as long as they are staying within the confines of the law, they have every right to preach what they want. Consequence of living with our laws the way they are I'm afraid.
2. Why do I stay at OB? The question is, why not? The place is probably a step above all other forums in the aspect that the posting quality is infiinitely times better. I've helped mod other forums and anytime you see a post that is more than a few lines long, it's often overlooked and dismissed. This place is different, because everyone pretty much has more than few lines worth of opinion on whatever subject it is. I also enjoyed the RP's for a certain amount of time, but now I find them a little time consuming. Someone is really gonna have to convince me that this is something worthwile again in order for me to return there, but for now I'm content posting outside of the RP realm. James has to be one of the reason I come back too. He is a mastermind in running a website and keeping its standards high through multiple revisions. He also is a very active Admin because he posts so often on many different subjects...which shows his "Grass Roots" appeal. Most Admins only post in areas of extreme confilct and when people are seriously messing up the place. James keeps that to a minimum and we all are pretty much cool with each other. Also, I come back for you people. I don't have to mention names, they already know how I feel about them. For those I haven't taken the time to meet, sincerest apoligize, maybe we'll become friends in the future. Rock on, OB.....ROCK ON.
3.
To clarify; All I'm trying to say is that free speech is important. If you start telling people they can't say something, you're essentially trying to control what they can say. Who's job will it be to decide if you're wrong?
I hate to break it to you, but there will be three speech restrictions all over the place. It's been pointed out in the "Clear and Present Danger" clause, like when you yell "FIRE!" in a theater or "BOMB" on an airplane (although Ben Stiller had no problem with it, because he's Ben F***ing Stiller). Those things are not protected under the first amendment. I also hate to break it to you that the government has restricted free speech on many occasions. Ever wonder why there are only Bush supporters at his rallies? If so many people disapprove of him, then why are there only smiling faces at his functions? Because the Secret Service takes the protestors to free speech areas, where they aren't considered a threat to those attending the event. So the government will take away your Freedom of Speech in order to protect the public. As far as NAMBLA goes, they are a sad group of individuals and it is my personal opinon that what they are doing is completely wrong and against all human standard. However, they aren't violating anyone's rights or committing illegal acts, they are merely suggesting them. Suggested acts are covered under free speech, in some cases. I believe they get protection here, because they are not committing the act they are portraying. I could say I'm gonna crash OB tomorrow, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna do it or that I should be arrested for it...because I didn't committ the crime. Only in situations of Clear and Present danger will your First Amendment rights be infringed upon.
4. Hey guys, I'm getting off my gloomy Death note kick and I'm in a gaming sort of mood with the Holidays around, so it's time for a new banner/avatar set....Here's the specifics.... Avatar: Emerald Green background, with Triforce symbol in Gold. Make sure to disturb the edges here (crop it close so that some of it gets cut off) and try to angle the Triforce symbol, to give it that non-straight appeal, lol. Banner: Almost the same, but Larger. On the Trifoce symbo, in pseudo Old English letters, inscribe " A Link to the Past, A Hero for the Future". If you could blend in the font and make it seem almost transparent, that would be spiffy. If not, then use white letters with black outlines. Thanks and may the Triforce be with you!
5. I'm not much of an energy drink person, because the rush of sugar within my system makes me wired for hours on end and sleeping just goes out the door. I like the Rockstar guava stuff, just because it tastes different than most energy drinks. As far as the taurine and stuff goes, you'd have to ask a dietrician (or wikipedia, since they seem to know EVERYTHING) . They can recommend what's good for you and what's not. I wouldn't personally recommend being hooked on these things, because then you start to develop a need for them and then when your body can't have them, it starts to suffer some massive side effects. Have you ever seen a coffee drinker when there's no coffee? They're more hyper than with the coffee. I'm a religious soda drinker, and I feel that helps me stay focused enough. Also, staying in shape and getting lots of sleep helps with energy. I drink energy drinks for a change of pace....when the soda's get tiring. But , for the record, energy drinks are very expensive. I can't believe people shell out close to 10 bucks for 6 cans of Rockstar. That's pretty absurd to me. Whatever happened to Jolt Cola by the way? Remember them? Twice the sugar, with the same caffeine?
6.
honestly. NOT! HAHAHA! ...but no, seriously, I'm yanking you. Really. It's true.
We need a litmus test of sorts to test their "Honestcity".
7. I tell lies, I won't fib about that one. Everyone does, but I tend to weigh in my two cents about everything, no matter how trivial or stupid it may be. I'm kind of bad about giving out advice that's really blunt and brutally honest. I try not to do that, but sometimes you need to have your feelings hurt while you're trying to feel better so that you can see what it is that hurts you more, the actual act that was perpetrated against you, or what YOU think is wrong. I'm honest like 90% of the time to just about everyone. I tell lies to my parents, but they are like 100% lie proof. They can sniff out a lie the minute it escapes my mouth. So I try not to lie to them, but sometimes it just can't be helped. Some things you just don't tell your famliy.....no matter what.
8. First off Kam, congrats on being the new EVENT MASTAH!!! Now here's my ideas... An Annual Otakuboards Award Show. This would be something we do every year, around X-Mas time, where we would nominate people in various Categories such as (Member of the Year, Mod of the Year, most hilarious poster, most quoted in others posts, and other categories based on user submission) I would have a nomination thread going and then a voting thread. The actual awards would consist of a long post of giving out the awards to others. I would like to make little digital e-cards that we can send out to the winners in the form of a PM or e-mail. We would even have people who would act as presenters and so forth. The Otakuboards showdown: Battle of the Brains. This is a sillier premise, but I thought it'd be cool. Essentialy it's like a fight, but with skills that everyone has on the Boards...words. It's basically a verbal argument where each poster is given A topic (like abortion or practically anything that comes out of the Lounge, lol) and four posts each (one to open their argument, one to present why we should choose their argument, one to rebuke the other contestant, and one to close their argument) and the winner is decided by a panel of other members who wins the argument based on various criteria (persuasive technique, hard facts, clarity of arguments, rebuttal skills, overall speaking skill...etc). The winner would move on in a tournament style until the ultimate poster was decided. It's a little corny, but I'd like to see how people can use the skills they have available to them here on the Boards. I'd like to get the ball rolling on the Otakuboards Award show, since the year is coming to a close. Whattya think?
9. Even though everyone likes to poke fun at the OS, I think that Windows Vista has a decent spyware system and it does it's best to make sure you don't get viruses. I did get a free virus and pop up blocker and all my checks are scheduled daily. So I make sure to keep my computer up and runnning. If I notice things are going slowly, I always run a check on my computer first. Then I can get rid of viruses. Spy, you said you downloaded mods for Command and Conquer Three right? Let me tell you, unless your computer is highly sufficient and you have little to nothing else on there, mods will DESTROY your computer's running speed....simply because they are hacking into programs that have written code into them and changing code to make your game different. Plus a lot of mods come from questionable sources and a lot of them can contain harmful things in their code package that may harm your computer, especially if your computer isn't up to snuff with theirs, which I suspect it isn't. So try uninstalling CnC 3 and taking off all the mods. That should free things up a bit. BTW, what OS are you runnning? Windows? Mac? Linux? (far-fetched, because most Linux users do know a little sumpthin sumpthing bout computers)
10. Alright. One more thing of my list of "Things I have yet to list on Otakuboards." Top 5 Gorillaz: These guys have a wide array of musical styles and genres on their albums, so it's really hard to define them in a specific genre. I always liked Damon Albarn's lyrical style in Blur, so when Clint Eastwood came out, it was like..."Whoa! Damon Albarn has a new band?" I digged the first album a little bit better than Demon Days, but they are both awesome albums. Plus that iPod commercial was wicked cool. Green Day: I know I'm gonna get body slammed by the metal heads, but I like my music a little bit more on the alternative side. Green Day is my alternative band of choice because of their overly caffinated sound. My favorite stuff comes out of their earlier albums, pre American Idiot. I don't really care for their slower songs, but some of them are pretty decent. I like songs like Minority, Nice Guys Finish Last, Walking Contradiction and Longview. Foo Fighters: Among the "hard rock, but not necessarily metal" genre, the Foo Fighters are the gods of their realm. I always thought their songs were really epic sounding and their newest single "The Pretender" really captured that early Foo Fighter spirit , with songs like "My Hero" and "These Days". I always like to play the Foo Fighters when I need a quick pick me up and get into a really good mood. I always scream my lungs out when I sing the Foo Fighters and always end up feeling good afterwards. That must be some sort of testament to their musicality. Avenged Sevenfold: Again, the more hardcore metal guys will hate me for even typing this, but I love Avenged Sevenfold's stuff. The Jury is still out on their newest album, but City of Evil really captured my attention with their overall sound. The sticking in that album was nothing short of awesome and the guitars were some of the best I've heard recently. I'm not into death metal, ain't my scene. But Avenged Sevenfold will do nicely. Can't wait to find that one song off of their new album that captures my attention. Red Hot Chili Peppers: I was always a fan of these guys since I was younger. I actually started listening to them about the time that Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik came out. I like the bass parts in all of their songs. Flea is a slap bassist god. I have yet to hear a better bass line than the one that was in Higher Ground. Some people may disagree with me, but I think that John Frusciante is one of the better guitarists out there. He's not on the same level as Page and Hendrix, but he's around that general area. People think that his guitar parts are too simple, but let me say this. Honk if you can pull out the opening lick from Snow with no errors. That one will twist your fingers into a not. Not Music: Cannibal Corpse: I could put out an album of power chords and screaming. Give me a break. I laugh at them because of their song titles. That is just plain old "Your mom will probably sue us for this" kind of music. If you can call what they do music. My Chemical Romance: Their lead singer, *shudders*, really annoys me with his lyrical style. The music is sometimes bearable, but that's few and far in between. I can't be rid of them though, because my sister is the largest MCR fan in the world. Fall Out Boy: These guys never sat right with me at first, and then it all went south when they decided they were cool because they made it on MTV. If your lead singer has a whiny voice and you have a teeny bopper's version of a hot bassist, ( I wanna personally bang the chick from the Donnas. That'd be sweet) then you can make it on MTV. In fact....:animesmil Honorable Mentions: The Killers: Brandon Flowers' voicework in Sam's Town was nothing short of amazing. If their new album is any as good, then they will probably be up there soon. Metallica: I used to be a Metallica fan, until the whole Napster deal and St. Anger came out. When Metallica goes corporate, music in general goes down. Score is corporations, 1. "Satanic Music" that makes your momma cry, 0. I still listen to their old stuff a lot. The guitar part for Seek and Destroy is just plain fantastic. ACDC: Everyone has at least one AC/DC song on their iPod/ MP3 device. Their songs are just so anthemic, it's hard to keep them off of your music list. I loved Angus Young's onstage antics. He is one of the best guitarists ever. AC/DC is just shy of being great, if not for the fact that I've listened to them for so long, it's kind of hard to put them back in, because I've heard AC/DC songs on the rock station about once every half hour.
11. Depends on what you wanna know Tombstone...I loved playing anthology because of Chrono Trigger. That game is RP games at their height in my opinion. I am still working on getting all the possible endings for the game. I wanna bite into FFXII: Revanant Wings. That game looks pretty interesting, and I loved the Tactics series, so I think this game will be right up my alley. I got the new Zelda edition of the DS and Phantom Hourglass, but I already beat it...thanks to a recent internet crash for me. Left me with a LOT of time to game.
12. I scored some hands on time with Rock Band the other day and I have to say, it will be the next big thing in gaming. It's increidbly addictive right off the bat and people who played Guitar Hero will find that the guitar parts are a little easier in Rock Band compared to their GH counterparts. The drumming really steals the show in this one, at least in my opinion. The drum set is reminiscent to Drum Mania, an older BEMANI music title that didn't make its way to American shores for console release. We have a Drum Mania machine here in my hometown and I used to play the living daylights out of it, but now it's just fell to pieces. The drumming in Rock Band is very similar and in some ways, harder, because of the complexity of some of the songs. I thought that I could start on Hard right away because I've played Drum Mania, but the skill sets are completely different.
13. Sorry if I meant anything my customizable skins, which in this case, I did not. I meant to say I can't wait to see what new features that OB is going to bring in general. I saw I was really vague about that in my previous post. As for customization for every user, I think there is wayyyy too large a fanbase on this site to have multiple images. Plus some users are just not that artisically inclined or capable of making skins that aren't complete eyesores. That was kinda harsh, let me rephrase.... Some users aren't as good as others in the field of graphic design. Myself included. I know a lot about Photoshop and I had a brief history with Paint Shop Pro, but I don't really think that lots of people would have the experience of others. It would be a neat idea in the pipeline, but as James stated, it would be physically impossible with the stuff we have at this point.
14. Y'know I didn't even see the new theme until I logged in from a different computer, when I acutally logged in, it switched back to standard. I think it's pretty cool...nothing against monotones, but to some of the members that wantonly use bright colors, like orange or yellow, this theme will be very disastorous for them....no reference to any specific member was intended. But I think the change is very cool, just waiting to see what new feature we can bring to it now and enhance it...I'm sure you and Adam have pondered some things around the water cooler, James.
15.
Anyway, I thought the timed combat-addition system was amazing, and of course the whole dragon bit piqued my fantasy side. I don't really care about having to look at polygons, so I'm pretty hyped right now. I only wish that FFVII and Panzer Dragoon (I think) hadn't overshadowed it; maybe we'd have had more in the series.
Actually, I think the series did quite well during it's run. It did reach the "Greatest Hits" status for the PS1 which is an amazing feat for the game, seeing as what it was up against at that time (FF for sure, not sure which Panzer Dragoon you are talking about, I'm guessing Saga for the Sega Saturn?) I was highly intrigued by the game because of it's outlandish and yet very endearing story. All the character were heavily type-casted: The brave, yet socially awkard hero, the delicate, yet unfathomably powerful girl, the dark and mysterious woman who ends up becoming one of your closest allies...etc. That's not a gripe on my part however, I think that a story like that needed those roles to make it cool. I loved the additions combat series, because it made fights a tad bit more interactive before this new free roam stuff came out. It was more fun than just pressing X and waiting to see the battle animations. LoD was indeed a great game, no matter what time you played it. It's worth looking at again in my opinion. I've been playing lots of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection lately, due to a decline in my internet connection :( but I've realized how cheap and how much of an overall douchebag I can be at that game. I normally use Asuka and let me tell you, if you get launched in the air...kiss your tookus goodbye, because there is a 50%+ damage combo coming your way. All it takes is two of those and the match is over before you can scream out any expletive. I also figured out that taller characters are very susceptible to spammed Phoenix Smashers by Paul if you continue to roll backwards. All it takes is one knockdown and 5-6 Phoenix Smashers to guarantee a victory. The worst part about it is, it's UNBLOCKABLE.
16.
*Laughs at Gunslinger* Ah, how I wish I went to public school. The petty dramas, the name-calling, the grouping by stereotypes. I sure missed out.
Indeed you did. All the name calling got pretty amusing after a while, especially if none of it really rang true for you. Because some of those names were really lame and stupid, which made them all the more laughable. At my school, there were cliques, but none of us were really hostile towards each other. The goths could hang out with the rappers, and the skateboarders could hang out with the posers. The geeks tended to hang around the jocks for some reason, maybe just for protection, I don't know. As for myself, I didn't really fall into a clique, per se, but I did hang out with some of the nerdiest people ever....all they talked about was gaming. It got old after a while, so I ditched them and went to the skateboarding crowd, who reintroduced me to my old passion for skating and made me relearn how bad falling on hot concrete feels....oh the scar I have from that one still exists to this day. I should put up a picture of it, it's pretty sick. At other schools in my town, there seems to be this separation between blacks and mexicans. It's really stupid, becuase there seems to be no reason for this feud besides, "I'm mexican and you're black, so therefore, you are my enemy!" It causes a lot of friction and fighting. There have been numerous shootouts at some of the school parking lots between them and unfortunately, it's left us with a lot of crying moms and destroyed futures. I don't see race, I see people. It's just something that I was raised with. If people could get over this petty, illlogical ********, then we can start to solve the real problems.

18. For those who have yet to play GGPO, it's basically the newest thing in online gaming for fighters. GGPO is a string of code that lets you play Street Fighter 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom online, FOR FREE, with almost no lag. It's all pretty easy to set up too. All you gotta do is sign up at http://ggpo.net and then download the program to your computer. You're gonna have to have Windows XP or greater, the latest version of Direct X (9.0) and various other things. You will have to have the roms for Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Marvel vs Capcom downloaded to the roms folder before you can play. You will have to find them on your own though.... So that's the schpiel people. Hope to see you fighters on there!
19. Here's some random tidbits for you....

A word or phrase that is spelled backwards and forwards is called a palindrome. For example so many dynamos, race car, radar...etc.
As a corollary, embargo spelled backwards is ograbme
The "Mexican Hat Dance" is the official dance of Mexico.
Amish people do not believe in the use of aerosal air fresheners. As a corollary, Amish people don't believe in the Ozone layer either...
Chuck Norris does not wear a condom. Because there is no such thing as protection from Chuck Norris.
Chuck Norris can win a game of Connect Four in only three moves.

20. As a big brother myself (I'm the eldest of three), I feel it's your duty to tell poop face what he needs to know, because if it isn't told to him...he'd be living a lie and you would only be setting him up for disaster and much more anguish than if you told him right now. So go ahead, tell him. Spare his grief now instead of having him relish in how much time he spent living a lie.
21.
XP One of my roommates tried that, he ended up throwing most of it back up before the time he had to keep it down came up. He was so close to keeping it down long enough too. We ended up giving him some of the money from the bet that he couldn't anyway, just cause we felt sorry for him. lol
Yeah I kept it down for like exactly 30 minutes before I went to the bathroom and purged it out. That is probably the worst feeling ever, trying to keep yourself from throwing up. There is nothing you can really do either...you gotta just sit there and be miserable until the magic minute comes up. I couldn't even watch TV because it made me queasier...
22. Shoot, I forgot what I look like now... Oh yeah, that's right....^_~
23. I have done things for money before, and some of them were pretty degrading....but it was all in wicked good fun. For example, I once drank a small glass of my own urine and I had to keep it down for a certain amount of time without hurling. That one was pretty easy, albeit a bit disgusting. There is a reason that people shouldn't drink their own urine, and it's because it tastes freakin horrible. I also drank a small thing of pure vanilla extract. I don't understand why vanilla smells so good and tastes so good in other things, yet pure vanilla is probably the most vile of substances ever concocted. It also makes you kinda tipsy, because it's like 35% alcohol...IDK.....lol. I've also done the whole "drink a gallon of milk and hold it down for 30 minutes" thing before. That was pretty hard, because milk just fills you up so quick and having that much in your body is just unhealthy. I made quite a bit of money on that one...:animesmil I do have limits to what I'll do for money however. I will never sell my body for money, nor will I commit murder or any other harm against animals or other human beings. It's amazing what I will do for money, though. The promise of cash normally can get me to do just about anything. I gotta see the cash first though. No cash, no act.
24. Like Kam said, there is no life on Europe, only French people. I consider the English to be the snotty cousins in your family who you don't really like, but you're forced to see every now and then.
25. I'll do ya one better
The truth is out there
Literally in this case, the truth is out there. We won't know anything about the planet until we can actually develop technology capable of reaching such a far away place. All we have now is pure speculation, which I believe is the basis of all religion and scientific discovery (I realise the irony here for me, seeing as I'm a religious person). This is still a great discovery, seeing as our own existence on Earth may cease to be within the next, oh I don't know, 2 to 3 million years...we need a back up plan by then, wouldn't you say?
