1. I think this is a rouse, like most of Colbert's operations. I wonder what will happen though if he's serious, and he actually wins. He has a bunch of supporters (myself included) that can vote him into office, and it would be hilarious to know that someone like Stephen Colbert can influence the American public by satrizing the entire presidential conflict and then become the president of our nation. Then again he has won a bridge contest before and has got a town to name a complete day after him....:animesigh
2. I'm going out on a limb and say this...I've downloaded music from the internet...legally. As a person who is studying mass media, I can tell you that the presence of downloading music isn't going to affect record sales at this point in time. To prove a point, when radio was released, people worried about the sales of records because people could listen to the radio for free instead of paying money to get the record. Naturally, the record sales dropped a little bit, but not so much as to having people go out of buisness. Now when the jukebox was introduced, people were again worried about the sale of records, but the opposite held true here. If people heard that particular record on the jukebox, then they were more likely to buy records. So society, at least in Western society, is very "on the fence" on this sort of issue. Will record sales decline? I don't think so. The US government has put in place strict regulations about the illegal downloading of material from the internet, not only music but other things....such as ROM files for emulators. However, I believe that there are plenty of altertnative and legal sources of downloading music or getting a particular album without having to pay an exhorbitant fee. Now on that subject, I really must question how much do you consider exhorbitant? I pay anywhere from $12 U.S. to $20 U.S. for a CD and I know that most CD's on iTunes cost in the range of $9.99 to $12.99 U.S. I know lots of other things that are ridiculously over priced, and CD's aren't in my scope of that. Now finding records and stuff like that can be a little pricey depending on where you buy them, but the same holds true for CDs. If you are buying CDs from somewhere like the mall or Best Buy or something like that, then yeah, you're gonna pay more. Welcome to the capitalist society my friends. Wal Mart, on average, doesn't sell CDs for more than $15 U.S., but then again, you won't get the uncensored lyrics you want. So there's the question, do you spend money to get what you want? Or do you sacrifice it to get something at a lower price, but yet your satisfaction wanes? To those of you who steal music, the piper will eventually come calling for you. As a person who loves music, I think that stealing music from the internet isn't just a disservice to the music artist, but it is a disservice to fans of music everywhere because you are degrading yourself and society with your ravenous appetite and empty wallet. 3.
I already had one made if you want to use it. However, if not, is it okay if I use another picture of Raito? The one you provided is kind of blurry. :/ If so, thanks.
I'd like to use a different thing, since that banner is a little too bright and wasn't what I was looking for...and yes you can use a different picture of Light if you wish. That was a cool picture that I got off of Google. Just on the picture, try to make it brooding and dark, to match the theme of the set Thanks Keyblade Wielder!
4.
You know, that's interesting. People say that for whatever the visual capacity of a game was back then, it was good, but for me it's sometimes been the opposite. I remember when I first bought FFVII, and I knew nothing of the game because I was drawn to it by word of mouth. I didn't know how it looked, how it played -- nothing. But I distinctly remember looking at the back of the instructions and seeing a clip of Cloud in the reactor and thinking "what the? this game sucks!". Of course, it made no difference because that game got PLAYED, but I guess I was just used to games more like Resident Evil at the time (which I did consider as good graphic-wise back then). Thought I'd share that.
That's good you shared it because that brings up my next point. For those of us who played the FF series in chronological order, FF7 was close to orgasmic when it came out. Then came along FF8 and blew that out of the water with people who didn't look like chibis. But that comes with evoution, so based on where your experiences with the FF series lie, you may love or hate FF7. It makes sense that you would think that games like RE would blow FF7 out of the water, but both games are completely different. Good graphics, in my humble opinion, come out of the 2D fighting games department, because all the sprites and backgrounds are hand drawn. Case in point, the Guilty Gear series. Those games are stunning graphic wise, and they are nowhere near as complicated and powerful technically speaking with games like BioShock or Metroid Prime 3.
5. I joined here round '03 and I took a little break in between 05 and 07 so I could focus on school and graduate. Plus my internet got all gestapoed out. As long as we're posting about nostalgia, I really miss when the Arena and the RPG's were seperate venues. Now, they're one in the same because people don't fight each other as much (I'm assuming). I miss the good old days posting with people like Solo Tremaine and Syk and as always, my good buddies Jacob and Steph. Still glad to know that we still all exist and post. That being said, I like the forums right now. Lots of new people that post some good stuff, including Rach, Indifference, Jakehammeren, Digital Boy...etc. I wish I could be here enough to post on RP's but my tastes have kind of waned from there. I like posting in the Otaku Lounge and on Hardwired and Music and Movies, because my interests lie there now. Every once and a while, I'll take a peek into the Anime section when no one is looking :animeswea
6. What's up. Here for a new request. This time it's the gothic mood of Death Note that inspires my newest set. Here's the specifics I'd like this picture for both the Avi and the banner.. if you could get Light's face and up to his shoulders cropped for the banner Avi: My SN in the lower right corner, in an Old English Font (white, with black outline)and the cropped picture in a negative exposure kind of style. The background should be black. Banner: Pretty much the same thing, but with the line "I hate everything about you". No SN on this one. Thank you very much
7.
She's just an example, a deterrent. Like when they used to string up pirates and criminals to scare people into being good. I feel bad for her because there are people with much larger collections of downloaded music getting off scott free; they basically picked her name out of a hat. I don't see the problem with downloading illegally. The record companies are greedy as hell, and the more money I keep from them the better I feel. The same goes for YouTube videos; copyright laws are ********. Freedom of information and all that.
Where is "freedom of information" ever mentioned as a human right? That's why stuff can be "classified" information. No one has the right to access everything in the world. As much flak as record industries get, they are doing what they said they were gonna do when they signed artists, help them make money. This is a capitalist society we live in. You buy stuff with money that someone made and you want things, correct? Does this qualify as greed as well? As far as this case goes, yes the woman was stupid for continuing to download music illegaly, but as far as picking her name out of a hat...that's pretty much the way it goes. The government here or anywhere else doesn't have the time or resources to detract themselves from catching serious criminals to get all the internet pirates out there. She was in the wrong place at the wrong tiem and she was warned. She got caught and she's paying the piper. Plain and simple.
Yes, that's right, she should have spent her money supporting the corrupt and idea-killing music industry. Because that would solve everything.
Corrupt? How so? I've seen many an original artist come out of the record labels and the music industry seems to support new ideas all the time. This statement just bleeds of ignorance.
8.
Hmm... the oldies are coming back to me... I feel like play The Legend of Dragoon again and beat it for the sixth time. Sure the graphics are bad, but the music, plot and characters make it oh so much better.:smirk:
By today's standards, yes the graphics for Legend of Dragoon would be pretty bad, but you gotta remember, that game was released here around 97-98 right around the same time as FF7. So having full 3D sprites walk around in a pre-rendered universe was pretty cool back then. Now a days, this is the norm. So it makes sense that you would think that the graphics seem a little dated. I liked Legend of Dragoon for the unique twist on the battle system that started the revolution of hybrid battle styles. The additions in that game made turn based combat pretty cool...no more wait for your turn, pick and click from the menu and wait for the attack to happen. Almost every action was determined on how fast and how accurately you could press buttons to increase damage on attacks. Lavitz's version of Gust of Wind Dance still gives me trouble to this day.
9. Blue Dragon is also a great choice if you're looking for a great, Japanese styled RPG. It has classic elements from various previous RPG's and the story is good enough, not fantastic, but good enough. The graphics will blow you away and Akira Toriyama's character designs translate very well into full 3-D. The game's pretty long too, so if you need a long RPG to tide you over until this holiday season, then go for Blue Dragon. Great pick in my opinion.
10. I find it amazing when the famous purple flapped jaw-space, does a raw blink off Harikari rock, I need scissors! 61! Did you know that if you spelt embargo backwards...it spells "Ograbme" ?!
11. Right now I'm currently playing F.E.A.R.:Extraction Point. I loved the visceral kills in this game and the AI is simply some of the best AI you will find in a FPS...sorry Halo people. Plus the story and the ambiance created by the game is just something that has to be experienced to believed. Play this game with the lights turned off and with the volume turned all the way up on your headphones. Player beware, you're in for a scare. Plus I can't wait for Project Origin, the spiritual sequal to FEAR in every thing but name, since Monolith doesn't own the rights to the name. It's gonna be boss. I'm definitely waiting on this one.
12. Finally someone has the gall to put up something that we can all argue about...political views. I'll sign up. 13.
I have yet to see Pan's Labyrinth. However, my grandmother has it and she said it was really good. I'm not big on movies though. The last flick I saw was Hot Fuzz. It was good though, took a while to get the jokes.
Hot Fuzz was funny, in that British humor sort of way. It was like a much lesser version of Shaun of the Dead, which was absolutely brilliant. The last movie I saw (which was last night) was Ali G's Indahouse, which has to be one of the funniest movies I've seen in recent memory. It's not like Borat, where there was no scripted dialogue and fictional plot and characters. It's entirely like a regular movie and delves into the corruption and connniving of the British Parilament, while adding Ali G's personal brand of humor into it. Booyahshacka!
14.
Capcom Vs. Marvel 2: I believe this shows you that I am, at heart, a nerd thru and thru. When I first heard about this game, I thought I was having a wet dream. Just thinking about it makes my thumbs sore.
You mean Marvel vs Capcom 2 right? That game is plenty awesome, but there are wayyyyyy too many people that are too good over here. I have yet to catch up because I don't resign myself to playing as Magneto, Sentinel and Psylocke. I play as Strider, Cable and Ken and while I do get in a few wins, the team just isn't enought to take on the likes of MSP players.
15. How about dat? Nothing can beat the Easy Button. Oh Snaps!
16. I've logged over 100 hours of time in many RPGs and fighters. Especially these few titles... Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal: These titles are the best Pokemon titles in the series in my opinion because this was before the Pokemon creators created some real oddball Pokemon (C'mon a pig mixed with a spring?) My party has remained the same throughout the game. Typhlosion, my heavy hitter (Earthquake for the win!) , Noctowl the primary catcher of the party, Scyther the secondary catcher of the party, Cloyster-the Dragon destroyer, Hitmontop- For those rare dark type users, and Wigglytuff-Just cause I said so. Final Fantasy 7: Granted this is with multiple playthroughs, but my file that I spent the most time on and consequently got the 100% completion rating with, has over 300 hours logged in on it. And the number is still growing because I continue to play it every now and then. Grandia 2: This game was a gem in the Dreamcast lineup in my honest opinion. The game had some tried and true RPG mechanics that made it endearing, but the game still had some original stuff that kept it from being too boring. I've logged 135 hours on it according to my VMU. Now to the Fighters... Power Stone: This game was just plain awesome. This was the second game that I got for the DC and my brother and I would play the crap out of it every day, for about 4 to 5 hours. We continued that cycle for about 4 years and to date, we have over 400 hours logged into the game. We used to hold Power Stone tournaments to take other people's money....er....see how we stacked up against the competition. I always won, but hey I'm the older brother....I'm supposed to win. I developed the Wangtang infinite combo. So back off. My brother had a solid Falcon. He was deadly if he could get you in the air when he had all his stones. That led to some pretty cheap victories. Capcom vs. SNK 2: I've logged in just under 200 hours on this one. It's one of those games that's new and exciting almost every time from the sheer amount of teams you can make and the different fighting styles you can choose from. I go with C-Groove Terry (ratio 1), Blanka (ratio 1) and Joe Higashi (Ratio 2). Some times I mix it up and use A groove or K groove (Just Defending is much easier than parrying).
17. Or too much pie for that matter...;)
18. There is a pretty big community for SSBM in my hometown and they've developed some pretty good characters...such as Ice Climbers. If you get caught by one of them, it's time to get infnited to death. There is a rule in the Smash Boards, I beleive that you can only use the IC infinite for a certain time before you can't use it anymore...hmmm... I played SSBM religiously for a while, using mainly Link and Fox. We would always play on the stupid Star Fox level and I hated it, because my friends would run from me and then wait till I overpursued and punished me. So as a revenge, I picked the Earth Temple stage or the Pokemon Stadium level. Take that fools.
19. At the school in the neighborhood I live in, there is a lot of violence and gang activity that goes on and the administration tries to curb it to the best of their abilities, but they can't stem it off completely. I didn't go to that school because my mom wanted me to go to a safe school. My school that I went to wasn't rife with violence like other schools, but it did happen every now and then. Mostly it was the losers that were too stupid to realize that they get put in alternative education over a petty dispute. I wouldn't say that I never got into fights, but most of the fights I got into were off campus. Two of the wrestlers on our wrestling team were being harassed by the baseball team once. They were smaller guys and it got so bad as to them both getting swirlies from the baseball team. As the captain of the team, I wouldn't take that sitting down. It was time to regulate. So I told the guys that every day, when they were done with class that they would come out to my car. One day, four guys from the baseball team were harassing them. They just calmly walked over to my car and when the baseball team got there, it was time to throw down. Our coach told us never to let anyone harass us, but never to use violence to solve it because we could really hurt people with the stuff we knew. That went out the door pretty quick because this was going too far. We started to argue and shove each other, but then I decided it was time to throw down. I tackled the guy that was pushing me and punched him in the face. It was pretty bad, because I ended up breaking his nose and cracking one of his ribs. The other guys tried to pull me off of him , but the other wrestlers that were there (the ones being harassed) jumped in and joined the melee. Two of them managed to get away, but we sent our message. Don't **** with the smaller guys on the wrestling team, cause the big guys will beat your *** next. I don't advicate violence in schools, but I am stern practioner of standing up for your teammates and others when the situation calls for it. Columbine was a tragedy, so was Virginia Tech. However, trying to say any act of school violence means that it is escalating is a load of crap. Violence has always been around in schools. Kids are going to get in fights. As parents, we need to teach them how to cope with problems and how to solve problems through non-violent means. But that doesn't mean we tell them that they don't need to defend themselves when the need be.

22. Who drinks cold coffee? It looks to me like one of those energy coffee blends, but the packaging is too old to be like that, unless they decided to go retro on the marketing scheme...;) If you're trying to get rid of it...look for some high school kids and sell it to them for 6 bucks a pop, you'll make a killing. Those kids are always needing energy nowadays. I remember when the energy source of my generation was Soda....now it's replaced by stuff that tastes sorta like metal and Shock Tarts.
23. I'm a tad bit confused....do you mean that this game is a beat em up? Cause in fighters most of the time everyone is playable. While I'm on the subject of fighters. Did anyone notice how exploitable the computer is in most Capcom fighting games? I could tell when the computer was going to jump and just go straight into the anti air of my choice. Most people cringe when they see that my difficulty setting is on 8 stars, but I calmly explain to them that this just means that the computer just blocks more and that you can still exploit it quite easily. Also, for harder games, Shinobi (PS2) still kicks my glueteus maximus to this day. The last 4 or 5 boss fights are frickin hard....but it's the stages that really send me for a loop. Some of the acrobatics they make you perform just to cross the next gap are just insane and require strictly timed button presses just to make it out alive. This means a LOT of restarts and a lot of accidental deaths.
24. I have some good and bad habits. Some good habits that I possess is that I always wash my face in the morning when I take a shower to help combat the acne menace. I always make sure to brush my teeth before I leave the house and I always make sure I have my wallet and my cell phone before I leave. Some bad habits that I have are that I'm real fidgety. If I stand still or stay in one place for too long, I start to fidget and tap my fingers and slap my hands on my legs just to keep from boredom. When I'm bored, I tend to yawn a lot and when I yawn, I tend to do it out loud with my mouth agape. This happens to me a lot at work...T_T go figure. I also bite my fignernails. It's kind of a stigma of mine, because I hate to have long fingernails and when I think they're too long, I just bite them. I also bite my fingernails when I'm deep in thought or really really nervous.
25. I have satellite radio in my car and I love listening to the 90's channel (espcially since anything from the 90s is now considered "retro" :animesigh). The other day while listening to some inferior music, I heard Mark Morrison's Return of the Mack and I just jammed along. It's funny how songs that date back to my early childhood can still remain with me now.I still remembered all the words. But now the song has a new meaning for me.
