You just argued yourself into a corner then, lol ^_~ I didn't specifically say you were heaving religion down anyone's throat. I just don't like people who are like that. Religion isn't absolute truth, not by a long shot. But that's another discussion. Break: You have a good point in your argument. We wouldn't procreate and we would die out. Sounds good. But the fact is, we don't have an overwhelming gay population in most countries. It's in the bigger, more developed countries that have larger gay populations than other nations such as Trinidad and Tobago for instance. I'm not saying that you're wrong for going against Homosexuality. I actually applaud you for being a person who will take a stance against it. Everyone here is taking a on the fence sort of attitude towards it, including myself. You aren't afraid to say "Hey I think it's wrong and I don't like it". So kudos to you.
Highway Star, The Mule (I love the drum solo, I know this is a guitar thread but whatev) and Child In Time are songs that I like by Deep Purple. I do like Smoke On The Water, too lol. I didn't take it as a bash, do not worry :) Early metal? Um... then I really don't know any real rock artists lol. Are Flock Of Seagulls good? All I've seen and heard of are the hairdos. My hair used to be really weird - once my uncle walked into our house and one of the first things he said to me was "Flock of seagulls!" No explanation or anything, just that.. lol.
You've heard their song "I ran (so far away)" on the radio and probably didn't even realized it was Flock of Seagulls. It goes something to the tune of "And I ran/I ran so far away/I just ran/ I ran so far away/ Gonna get away." There are plenty of rock artists that were around before metal came about. Elvis? Bo Diddley? It doesn't have to be old bands either. Just a non metal or hard rock band. I love alternative bands. Like Green Day before American Idiot , U2, the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
@ Retribution - And lord knows that I get tempted to throw a brick at some of these kids forheads these days. >_>
Does the bible say that we can cast stones on stupid people too? Cause I'm always up for chucking a few stones at people. ^_~ I'm not a big religious person, so I don't read the Bible very often. I just get tired of people saying the Bible says that Homosexuality is immoral. If you wanna be a stickler about it, fine. I won't judge you. Just don't heave your religion on me and expect me to believe that it is the utmost truth in the world. Everything is flawed, I realize this, but religious zealots have heads thicker than the walls of the Vatican. On an unrelated note:Where is the smiting of people by the lord if we have all these sinners here? God used to strike down people on the spot for blaspheme and such and now, I don't know. God seems to take the "Full Circle, What goes around, Comes Around." approach. It works, but's it's just not as flashy as the stuff depicted in the Old Testament.
Would The Smiths count as rock? If not, Led Zeppelin probably. Although I don't love what they play, I still don't think they are terrible. Deep Purple are another - I think I may like them more than Led Zep, actually. I'm suprised no one's mentioned Vai or Satriani yet, they are brilliant. If you have mentioned them, sorry for not reading close enough :animeswea
Admit it, you only like Smoke on the Water. That what everyone I know says about Deep Purple. I'm like "Okay. Name another song besides Smoke on the Water". Not to bash on you or anything, I just don't like bands for just one song. I tried to listen to the rest of the Flock of Seagulls album, but "I ran" was the only song that got stuck in my head. ^_~ Oh and by the way, Deep Purple was an early metal band, as was Led Zepplin. They were some of the progenitors. Zepplin, Purple, Sabbath...etc etc.
I am against it, but I'll let people do what they want. As long as they don't tell me about it, or do it in front of me, I'm fine. They can be as homosexual as they want. It isn't really my problem to deal with, nor to change. I am just against it. I probably just said the same thing about four times. :animeswea
I say go for five...lol. I don't really care if people tell me about it, because it's a real part of life now. I don't think it would be any less natural for two people of the same gender to have sex with each other than a man and a woman. The fact that these people LOVE each other should be the only criteria that deems their relationship legitamate. I do get a weird vibe from seeing men or women kissing each other, but it doesn't gross me out where I go "ewww gross." I'm a guy who has relationships with women and I just don't feel comfortable seeing two people of the same gender making out the same way that heterosexual couples make out. It feels natural when people are actually committing the act of having sex or making out or what have you, but when it's seen by others it can be a little awkward.

We have to define what really is "epic" as far as games go. Is it an in depth look into whatever the genre is? Or is it a giant world where the player has sympathy for the characters and the story of the game has multiple twists and turns that brings the character deep into the mythos of the story? Here's another entry for me: Metal Gear Solid (series): The games are great every time. The story always has more plot twists in it than a soap opera and the excellent story sets the stage for an epic experience. The game that stands out from this series would be MGS 3. The world that it was set in was vast and varied and the fact that the character had to rely on basic survival skills to execute their mission was pretty epic if you ask me. The envvironment was lush and very very large. From the jungles to the mountains to the eventual showdown at Groznyj Grad...the game was just awesome from point a to point b. The feeling of being hunted by the bosses, the use of camoflauge to stay hidden, the use of traps inside the jungle, the mostly smart AI. The game is just epic period.
Kirk Hammett is one of the best guitarists, he could kick James' butt anyday. Just Kidding. James is a powerful front man, but it all lies in Kirk. Even Dave Mustaine, the old guitarist, now in Mastodon, was a pro on stage. Yet, Dave got a little carried away. The only song I've really learned how to play by Metallica is Enter Sandman. COLOR]
Actually, Dave Mustaine is in Megadeth. I can see where you can mix him up with Mastodon though. You can see the simillarites in the bands when Mustaine was still in Metallica. The riffs from Call of Ktulu and Hangar 18 sound eerily similar. I think that Dave Mustaine did the right move by going away from Metallica and moving on to Megadeth. Now we have two big acts that helped shaped Metal to what it is today and we have a little dispute over song crediting to thank for it. Finger picking is an invaluable skill, however my nails will never be long enough to fingerpick effectively thanks to my nervous habit of biting my nails. Psh, who cares. Even I don't have my pick on me, I can use other things. Little paper footballs work for a while, but then the strings decide to get ignorant and break my perfectly fine paper footbal pick. All in all, I think that stumming still feels more natural to me and that finger picking should be left to the bassists. Some of the best bassists in the world were slap bassists. Here's a new point of discussion. Can you name some bands that play rock music and you love what they play, but they don't belong to the Metal or Hard Rock Pantheon? I personally liked the quirky new wave sound of the B-52s. Rock Lobster is just one of those songs that I love to play, and I love to hear people's impression of Fred Schneider. I also liked that they blended in the surf sound into their music. That made it just that more fun to listen to in my opinion

Well Homosexuality never really bothered me because my parents raised me to have an open mind that's free from predjudices against others for being different whether it would be sexual orientation, gender, or race. I have homosexual friends from both sexes and I've gotta tell you, they are nicer than most straight people entirely. I myself am straight, but I have no problem hanging out with my gay friends. I would like to see the exact passage in the Bible that says "You can't have homosexual sex". I've heard the line that marriage is between a man and a woman and its a sacred bond. The analogy some of the homophobes that I've heard so often was "God created this world for Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve". But when it comes down to it, it's just a matter of prefrence, no different than eating mayo instead of mustard on your sandwich.
I hate thread repeats
I personally love thread repeats. On issues like this, having multiple threads on the subject can only be a good thing. I've seen a general discussion thread about topics like homosexuality and then I've seen it been dissected in other threads into its many parts, such as "Is homosexuality a sin?" "Homophobia: Ignorance is Bliss" and others. So I say that someone should be applauded because their can never be and end to these sort of subjects.
RE4 just doesn't seem like my kind of game. I'm sure I could play through it once and have fun but I doubt I'd ever pick it up again after that. Single player shooters (either first or third person) rarely hold my interest for long unless it's a sidescroller like Metroid or Mega Man. And yes, I do have FFIII on the DS. It's pretty good.
Have you bought X8 yet? That's a pretty decent game. I think that they shouldn't have actually included voiceovers in the game. It's a solid game though Des. I have it and I would suggest it.

I have a really acrobatic, daredevil dog. Her name is Kacee (Pronounced K.C.) and she can climb to amazing heights. We have a Kennel for her outside and we bought her a doghouse for when it gets wet in her Kennel and we aren't there. We though she would get in it. No way. She climbs on top of it and lays down like Snoopy did (but not on her back). We also bought her a Tarp to cover her Kennel and keep the rain out. One day my mom went outside and found her on top of her tarp lying down! She also tends to try and backflip whenever we throw her ball around. She actually pulled one of once. I overthrew her and she hopped up and backflipped and got the ball and landed on her feet. She's a crazy dog....but I love my puppy! My mom's friend has a zoo in her house. She has two dogs, two cats, a ferret, an aquarium of full of fish and a turtle, a box turtle, she even had a hamster at one point. I though about getting her a snake, but both she and my mom are deathly afraid of snakes. I once had to catch a garter snake because she wouldn't get near it. I love her house though because if you get bored, you can interact with a plethora of animals.

Depending on what year and model you wanted to get, Les Pauls and Les Paul Specials vary in size and weight. LP Specials are defnitely smaller and lighter though. But as far as LP's and Bass Guitars go, the Les Paul is definitely heavier than most Basses, with the exception of a few (like the Stingray, that thing is enormous). But the Les Paul is, for my money, the best guitar to own out there. With the right equipment, you can put some pretty sounds out of it. As far as Guitarists go for heavy metal stuff, people often overlook James Hetfield from Metallica. He did some great stuff and how many people do you know have the tabs for at least one of Metallica's songs? I can play "Ride the Lightning" and "Seek and Destroy" just fine, without the use of another guitar. I personally liked Morello in Audioslave better than RATM but that's just personal preference on my part. I loved Killing in the Name. It's my number two most played song on iTunes. Behind Iris, by the Goo Goo Dolls. I also liked the acoustic licks from Misorlu (Sp?) by Dick Dale. When I play it in public, people often get that jaw dropping look, like "You can play that?". I don't like the idiots that start singing the lyrics to "Pump it" by the Black Eyed Peas. It's two different songs people.

You know who has some good stuff that's real good for guitar players to learn when they are trying to mix it up? Carlos Santana. Corazon Espinado is one of my favorites. Most people are turned off by Latin songs, but Santana's guitar solos in that song are just awesome. When you can get a full band to play the accompaning instruments, it can get pretty intense. Oh and if you can get a chance to listen to some of their songs from their first album. The Gorillaz have some really cool bass lines. Even in their Hip Hop songs, the Bass takes center stage for some of the melodies. I suggest "Tommorrow Comes Today" "El Manana" and "Double Bass". That is some pretty cool collaboration between Bass Guitar and Hip Hop beats to make an authentic sound. Nothing much in terms of variety and difficulty...but if you can get the accompany right...it sounds just plain awesome. For music composition and writing, I use Sonic Fire. It's a mixture of the program Sonic and a hint of GarageBand from Apple Computers. The program itself has many loops and sounds for any occasion (I once made game show music for a play production). It also has an in depth tabbing section that allows you to write your own tabs and can play them back to you with any instrument you choose....which means you can create a key-tar line with only your Guitar. Pretty Awesome. The only draw back is that it's really expensive and it has a steep learning curve. But if you are so inclined to get it, I would definitely recommend it.

Prem, have you even seen Flea, from the Red Hot Chili Peppers play? He does some crazy stuff and that's definitely not boring. Check him out when you get the chance. I suggest Higher Ground for a good bass opening and line. If I'm right "No one knows" by Queens of the Stone Age has a good Bass lick to it too. Bassists don't have as many limited options as you would think. You just got stuck playing the boring stuff. Like the bass line from "Message in a Bottle", which any brain dead monkey could play.

I'm going to go ahead and keep my original character Felix. I can put in some other people, but they would most likely be NPC's that serve no massive impact to the story....I am trying to recruit people though. My character is Yuz/Sykel, just in case you forgot. ^_~

You guys are going to hate me. My uncle was collecting guitars and when I told him I wanted to play, he gave me his old 1960 Gibson Les Paul that he had. It's quite simple the best guitar ever made.I also have an Ibanez IBZ10G Guitar Combo Amplifier (10 Watts, 1x6 in.) which puts out a lot of sound for such a small stack. My distortion pedal is kinda weird though because it's wound so tight that I can't switch between my settings easily...just like those guys on GH2 who couldn't do the stuff for Killing in the Name. My favorite song to play right now would be "Snow (Hey Oh)" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The opening lick is just so cool and John Frusciante does have some crazy good stuff. Not easy, but definitely not as hard as other stuff like Megadeth. My favorite guitarists right now would be John Frusciante, Marcus Henderson, Dimebag Dave (RIP) and Slash.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Elite Beat Agents yet. It's such a fantastic rhythm game and it's portable to boot! How many hand held music games can you think of that are good? The game is pretty simple. Using the DS Stylus, you tap circular buttons on beat and in order of number (1 - 5) on the buttons. It also has a pretty good storyline (for something so comedic). Each song has its own unique story to go along with it and depending on how you do in the song, certain events happen in the storyline. The only thing I don't really like about this game is some of the music selection it has but that's alright. It's still great.
I didn't really care for the version of EBA for the US release because the game was so localized that it didn't bear any resmeblence to the original game. Don't get me wrong, the game is awesome and it kinda relates to games like Parappa. I preferred the Japanese release because it stayed true to the original intent of the developers. They changed the characters so bad in the American release. I don't think that this game is quite as challenging as DDR or Guitar Hero, however, but maybe that's a good thing.
Dude, that's Stepmania. Sure, I love it, but if you are playing with the keyboard or a USB controller, AAs are easy on even 10 foot songs. Also, I think the buffer zone for AA is wider on Stepmania than on DDR, as you have 1 miss and 1 good on that song that would ordinarily prevent you from getting the AA. Nice try, though. On the other hand, do you usually play Stepmania with a pad hooked up to a USB converter? I used to do that until I realized that there was a lag with the converter I was using so I don't usually play SM with a pad any longer. All the same, right now I usually like making pad or keyboard files for Stepmania using songs from DDR, Beatmania, or Pop N' Music. I also have some of the PS2 DDR games and am getting pretty good at most of them...my latest record is being able to do the 10 foot song "CHAOS", and you can see what that looks like here. It's not my video, though, and I know it's In The Groove 2 and not DDR, but the steps are the same for both versions, so you can get a sense of how tough that song is. If the above three paragraphs are any indication, I am something of a rhythm game nerd, and I usually play Stepmania or DDR, but I suck at Beatmania and have only tried Guitar Hero/GuitarFreaks a couple of times (I have a real bass guitar, so I would usually rather play that). I've also spent some coins on Drummania, which is pretty fun, but the last couple of times I've tried it the songs were too easy and I should try moving up in difficulty next time. For those of you who haven't tried it yet, I would recommend Stepmania if you don't feel like spending money on a rhythm game. Sites where you can download stepcharts and songs are plentiful, and the variety of music out there is quite astonishing. When I get a few more good stepcharts out, I might link to those in this thread as well.
To answer some of your questions Wondershot....yes Stepmania does have a wider buffer zone for perfects, but it can be adjusted with the options screen. I do play Stepmania with a pad, A Redoctane ignition pad that has a USB port for playing on the PC. It's a little hard to configure it for my PC, but when it gets going it becomes one of the best pads around to have without the stress of buying a hard pad. BTW, that score was on the ignition pad. ^_~

Soooo...does that mean that she is still going to post on the RPG? Or is she dropping out...cause her character wasgoing to be a key part of my character's story?

I love to play human opponents on fighting games and FPS games, because there is something cool about having another person going against you and having to constantly adapt to their strategies and be thinking on your feet. CPU opponents in these types of games are very predictable and easy to exploit. I do enjoy playing multi-player games, but certain games can be fun when it's only one person. I enjoy playing ryhtym games by myself, because I don't have any decent competition in my house or in my immediate area. I have to travel to the arcade or play people online, which is horrible for fighters and rythym games because of latency issues (why does SVC: Chaos have so much slowdown? There's nothing going on!)
Yeah, but I prefered the survival aspect to the series, more like what RE1, 2, and Code: Veronica had to offer. RE4 is mostly action orientated, and yeah, there are just as many puzzles and just as much back tracking, but it just isn't as scary and intense as the others.
I think the clunky controls and horrible camera angles made the previous games more scary than the action itself. I find RE 4 to be a culmination of all the previous games, but it also has new and exciting stuff that it brings to the table. How can you not tell me that smart parasite infected people aren't more freaky than zombies? They figured stuff out man! Those dudes with the Chainsaws were pretty creepy too. Let's not forget the parasites that could munch off your head with one stroke too. Plus those action cutscenes were pretty intense, like the knife fight. That was crazy.
-
I would recommend RE4, for the wii because it's so cool to wield the knife with the Wiimote. It's such a cool game and the addition of a new control scheme makes it better. They also have the Ada Wong missions in there, so there's plenty of game for Des to play. I think that if he's into fighters, he needs to get a good fighting game. I would recommend Tekken 5: Dark Resurection or Street Fighter Alpha Anthology. The latter is like five games in one (SF Alpha 1, 2, 2 gold, 3 and Pocket Fighter *known as super gem fighter in Japan*) That's a good buy if you ask me.
Counterpoint: Gitaroo Man. I think, to a lesser extenet, Guitar Hero also counts. While not a full on story, it does a good job of illustrating the rise from garage band to full-on rock gods.
Gitaroo Man did have a cool story to it, but GH and other rythym games don't really need a story when they have the spot on gameplay that makes them hard to put down. Honestly, I have my DDR pad out on my floor everyday, regardless of whether I use it or not.
... It might not be necessary, but that doesn't make an argument for me to play rhytm games. In fact, it only strengthens why I shouldn't play the games. I just like games with a storyline. ~_~
Which I don't have an issue with...I'm just merely saying that those games aren't the type of games to incorporate storyline because the game is about the music. I would loosely equate these sort of games to the old school arcade cabinets like Dig Dug and Galaga, which had little to no backstory. Were those games any less fun, even though they didn't have a story? This is my point, games don't necessarily have to have a backstory to be awesome. That's why I love rythym games. They are simple concepts with simple goals. I derive my pride in those games from getting high scores and such. Here's a picture for you guys that I think you will most likely go :animestun
It looks a heck of a lot like Ragnarok Online, that's for sure.
But RO is much much cooler, for sure. I've been playing it since the beta version came out. That's old school for you ^^. When I played it, it was before MMOs actually were popular. The game is just plain awesome now and my friends and I are one hell of a team.
