1. Doesn't it make it all the more fun though when you see the stuff blacked out, or the sounds bleeped out? We all know what the BLEEP you mean anyways, so what's the BLEEPin point of being able to see it in print?
2. Here's my top five in no particular order. 1. Pulp Fiction- This movie is just simply the best movie ever. The changing storylines, and how they all intertwine at one point or the other is just plain cool. Plus it's like the last good movie besides the first Star Wars prequel that Samuel L Jackson was in. It gave me some of the best lines to use on people in random situations...like "Can you hand me my wallet?" "Which one?" "The one that says 'Bad Mother$#$@ on it." and "Oh I just shot [insert random xbox live gamertag here] in the face" (great for fps!) 2. Citizen Kane- I can't remember all the actors in the movie to help save my life, but the imagery and the need to watch this movie twice to catch the little subletities in the movie that make it awesome Great storyline, cool camera angles, good directing, great acting. It's got it all 3. Fight Club- Despite the violent storyline and crazy characters, this movie attempts to take a stab on serious societal issues and creates some of the best dialogue I have ever had the pleasure to hear. This movie is more cerebral than you would believe it to be. Plus it's got cool easter eggs. Think you can find Brad Pitt in the single-frame instances? 4. Resevoir Dogs- Quentin Tarrantino's debut as a director an a smashing movie it was. Great character acting (Tarrantino is actually in the MOVIE!!!), cool dialogue that is practically as good as Pulp Fiction, and great story overall. Love the torture scene with Michael Maddsen, he makes such a good villain. 5. Kill Bill volume 1 and 2- Technically these are two movies, but who cares? Why would you nominate one without the other, espcially when the story would be unfinished? Uma Thurman should have been in more action movies, because she makes a cool protagonist. I love the 1st movie's ties into the old samurai films and the kickass anime scene in there. The second one has less action, but the dialogue in the both movies just makes this movie incredible to watch. The black and white scenes are a cool touch and Tarrantino really knows how to pick a good soundtrack that goes across many genres. Love the Nancy Sinatra song in the beginning of volume 1. Plus, who thought David Carradine whould make such a cool villain.
3.
It may sound crazy, perhaps even suicidal, but I really want to meet [strike]Mitch[/strike] Copycatalyst. I think we'd end up being decent friends after we put aside our philosophical clashings. I don't have any friends who like having extended conversations about anything really deep, and I want one. Just... none of that singing/poetry-reading you do, alright fellow?
I second that motion. Copycatalyst, we need to meet and talk about the biggest questions in the world and fight and yell and scream at each other until we are out of breath. Sound good?
4. Let me add some inside advice to all you consumers since I work at a place where we get the most frickin complaints ever, a grocery store. For example....today I was getting ready to take out the trash in the store, which is standard procedure for me. We lock one of the sets of doors at 9:00 PM because it gets slow in the store and there's no point in leaving both doors open. So as I was taking out the trash in the store a customer comes up to me and asks me how to get out of the store. I apologized to him and told him that we lock our doors at 9. So he says "Well you could have *#*#R& told me that. I just walked by you like 5 mintues ago. So I apologize, again. Then he proceeds to tell me that there are fifteen employees on the floor and we only have two bleeping registers open. At that point, I wanted to strangle the man, but I just smiled and apologized for a third time. Here's my question, what did he want me to do about it? I am a frickin bagger for Pete's sake! My point is, if you're a customer, don't be ignorant and think of how you're being inconvienced so much. Remember, the people you're yelling at are people too. The thing is, we can't yell back! So remember to take a step back and think about how we feel too. We hate the same things you do, but when we are working, we are doing our best to serve you, so a little mutual understanding would be nice.
5.
You guys and your silly science.
meh philosophy is something i've always enjoyed talking about, which is always a plus for debates like this.
6.
Now remember it's been a very long time since the following events have happened. I am going try and recall some of the major events which have passed while I have been a member here. The Great Wind Fish I remember first stumbling on this site looking for video game advice. If I am not mistaken it was Link's Awakening for GBC. That is how I got my user name the Great Wind Fish. Nothing really happened for the next few months I just got into the community meeting people and chatting. Some of the people I really got to know right away were ZeroxSama, Cody, Stardust, Nerve, and countless others. My Month Ban Soon into my visit on these boards I started getting IM's saying that OtakuBoards was going be hacked. I reported these declarations, with Stardust as a witness, only to be told I was lying by I think his name was Vash. So over time I kept getting IMs and kept reporting them. Over time Vash gave me a month ban for "making up stuff." H-Bomb believed me but he didn't want to go over Vash's head and unban me. So I went a month without posting. The Invasion Thimoc, the lead poster decided to quit and I guess go out with a bang. He made a few accounts and him and his buddy decided to spam the boards with nonsense and in a few instances pornography. They were quickly banned and never seen again. Version 2(I think) I remember when we were changing boards. The user names were being deleted along with my 1500 post count. Many people were upset but I didn't care. Adam let me and a few other people test the forums a few hours before everyone else. I think I was user #10. The Post Race So the post race began. Everybody tried to get the most posts and I was on top for a few days until Firemac started posting like it seemed 24/7. He quickly overtook me. I dropped to second. I remained in the top 3 for a few month until I got bored of it and than I just quit OtakuBoards quite abruptly.
you forgot some parts. what aout return of the Jedi and the empire strikes back? :D
7. i thought rosso from FF7: Dirge of Cerberus was okay, except for her fake russian accent. she had that creepy quality that has to be present in any FF villain. her laugh just plain creeped me out. now she really wasn't a villain per se in the latter parts of the series, but cammy from street fighter makes a damn good villian because she is a puppet of the world's favorite dictator M. Bison.
8. that' the x factor in this debate. human emotions. how can people justify their emotions scientifically. i can't say it's a horomonal imbalance that causes me to laugh when something is funny and be striken with grief when tragedy strikes. it just don't work that way. as the center for all human thought and emotion and whatnot...i can see why you would think that the mind is the reason we can percieve beauty. the mind tells us that what is beautiful and what is not, but how does the mind know what beauty is? i think for this to be valid we have to say that beauty is a perception that is made within the mindwith the combination of natural beauty that can be experienced by the five senses and innner beauty which can be seen through the emotions and personalities of others. so while the process make take place within the mind, it is there because of outside stimuli that make it percieve things that way.

Wow...

ha i see. you're just the person that everyone loves huh?
10.
Aw, you can shoot higher than Brad Pitt... *hint hint nudge nudge*
even higher than ewan mcgregor.... yeah....:animeswea
11. i'm beginning to see your point sir. and i have my own logician's cut to do if i may. let's start with beauty as a whole again. we divide it into natural beauty and beauty of reason. with natural beauty we see outward things, like scenery and so forth. but i ask this? is natural beauty limited to the sense of sight? what about the other senses. can we say that a cry of an animal sounds beautiful? i would like to think so. so what i can deduce is that natural beauty is limited to our senses and our senses only. correct? beauty of reason seems to me coming from a logical standpoint or from emotions. we can like the way a person acts around other people and find their mannerisms and so forth beautiful. so what we see in a person's personality traits as beautiful is considered this"beauty of reason" so synthesizing these two concepts makes this hybrid "technological beauty" where man's thought processes and physical senses combine into one and make our definition of beauty. am i right so far? now to move onto logician's cut two man's sense of beauty comes from his sense of awareness around his surroundings. let's propose a hypothetical situation. mr smith grows up in a frigid artic wasteland that offers no change of scenery as far as the eye can see.mr smith travels to the far away land of california and is captivated by the scenery and texture and the "personaity" of his surroundings. so what i'm trying to say is that if a person grows up with the same repeated scenarios, his sense of awareness seems to dwindle, because his brain has already compiled this information and his senses have experienced being in his tundra and he is dissillusioned with the scenery and it's "Feel". so what i am proposing is that humans are more inclined to see beauty in the newer, more life filled areas that they are not accustomed to because they haven't experienced this area before and the need time to assilmilate this area's beauty. wow whoa wee wha! what a serious debate. i need time to rest my noggin.

Wow...

yes the "nicer more friendly otakuboards" heee.
13. i've had that problem before and the advice i can offer you for the future is to allow certain things , like websites to be excluded from MS Phising. that will help you from experiencing that sort of thing again the fee will be 300 up front, and two installments of 250. all to be paid in Euros.
14.
Then there would be Citrus or whatever she's called now. I
15. from the boards i would like to meet: Muar'Dib (jacob)- me and j go back a ways, he's a good buddy of mine and we just jell together. Squiggles- no way i would get away without visiting her. she would hang me up by my toes and continue to smack me in the face with a fan if i didn't try to meet up with her. much love babe ^_~. James- this guy knows his sitebuilding and he and i have had serious intellectual conversations in the past. plus i would want to see the site administrator in person. that's a no brainer. PS james, i think it's awesome that every word like color and favorite has the "U" in it. that's just tres cool.
16. Korey

Wow...
So yeah, there's no deliberate favouritism going on here. It's all just part of the difficulties of trying to please as many people as possible while still keeping some basic standard of quality on the site.
which uncovers the paradox of life. no matter what, you can never please everyone. james is trying to please all of us, but it can't be done. you have people within the site that you try to be cool with and within this circle of people....you tend to develop a bond that may seem to others as favoritism to others....so try not to be offended if james doesn't automatically delete every "I'M back" or "HI" thread that's shows up. he's only one person
17. it's probably because even though that your threads may be R rated, this site is still intended for those of all ages, so any random member under the age of 14 may still be offended by the blatant and constant use of curse words, sooooo that's what i say has happened.
18. i think that retribution summed it up best... we will never come to a consensus because we all operate on a separate set of standards and thought processes and we all shoot each other's theories down because we think that person A is a complete blithering idiot, just because their methods of reasoning differ from yours. so can we at leasat agree on this? everyone has a different opinion of beauty and technically no one person is wrong, because everyone can argue their case to a point. some of us use logic to show our theories on the subject, others tend to use experiences and personal deductions based on no scientific or fact-based medium. sound good?
19. Korey

Wow...

which he doesn't have to answer by the way. he is the the site administrator, he can do as he pleases. get over it. he tries to be fair trust me.
20. Korey

Wow...

well if i wanted to, i guess i could post an "i'm back" thread, but i see your point. some people just want to see the wb's and random one liners that you get on those types of things. it's a good thing that fish brought something up to the discussion plate by adding how much the boards have changed. that makes the thread seem more worthwhile then just posting
like yeah, i'm like back and stuff. what's up , everybody. lol j/k (as a side note, why do those phrases always follow each other?)
i can see the argument here, but i think that fish was in permissible bounds. if we had everyone introducing themselves, it would cause a catastrophe on the Otaku Lounge boards. but here's a suggestion. New to the site? want to introduce yourself (again maybe?)? then let's make a subdirectorate to handle all of that. one large section devoted to nothing but new member introductions. that would take away the threat of any forums being overrun with the posts.
21. miss wem i think you've missed my point. i described a situation where everything in the world is gone dank and gloomy and whatnot, so when your significant other calls you or smiles or offers a kind word, it does make you feel good right? what kind of beauty would that be? inner beauty seems to be the answer but, we can never tell what is beautiful about a person on the inside on an absolute scale, because humans are irrational and erratic creatures by nature. we change emotions about as often as we change clothes. i think it's that feeling of happiness or appreciation that creates the beauty. in other words, like i've said in the past three posts. beauty is created by you and only for you. others can influence your views of beauty, but ultimately it's up to you to decide how your beauty "radar" functions.
22. let's see if i can clear this up for you
What I want to know is. Explain to me what you mean by "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." How am I supposed to take this phrase?
to put it simply...beauty is what you believe in yourself. period. what you think is beautiful is what is beautiful TO YOU.
Is it literally in[/i'] there? In that eye? What does this implicate? Does it mean it is merely in what they see? The phrase means nothing to me, because it is so overused.
that's why it's a cliche, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder doesn't specifically mean physical characterisitcs. ever heard of the mind's eye in easter cultures? "I know what is beautiful, and I do not even need call it beautiful." (Got tired of using the HTML Coding) :P. then why do we define beauty? if we know what is beautiful, how do we decide what is ugly without giving it that description. we know the sky is blue, yet do we not call it the blue sky? "That which I see away from "me" is merely a casting of a reflection of me. It is thus as part of me as all things." Which i assume means that you are what people percieve of you right? then aren't these people judging your simply on a superficial scale? because what they see is simply a reflection of you, not the genuine article? can you explain this more to me?
23. Korey

Wow...
It instates in the rules that one cannot post "I'm back threads." Thus why is this thread still open?
c'mon don't ruin everyone's sense of nostalgia. you would see this kind of stuff in other forums ALL the time. welcome to the internet, where the rules of a forum are never followed to a T and if someone happens to bend or stretch the rules, within permissible bounds, someone is bound to call you on it. i've seen entire sections of threads dedicateed to those wanting to introduce themselves, reintroducing themselves, re re reintroducing themselves....you get the picture right? so take it easy, catalyst. we 're all friends here. and from one old ob veteran to the next, welcome back to the boards fish man.
24. besides the philosophical ideals that have been thrown around here. beauty can be summed up in the old addage...."beauty is in the eye of the beholder". corny, yes. true, maybe. but look at the diverse opinions that have been shown here and the way some of them have been shot down. this is one of those questions that have been pondered since the beginning of well the beginning. what is beauty? why is the sky blue? why are we here? what is the meaning of life? to all members, any question can be considered subjective and can be argued either way, with some exceptions (math concepts, science laws...etc). for instance, if i posed the question, what was the best beatles album of all time, i would get a menagerie of responses voting for album a or b because of personal opinions that said people may have. however, from an analysts' point of view, album a would be the best album because of record sales, musicality, awards...et cetera. however you choose to argue your point, my opinion or by the numbers, remember, there is no true answer to what you are talking about. we will never know how many licks it takes to get to the choclatey center of a tootsie pop because no one knows what constitutes as a lick and what doesn't, and other variables can come into play. catalyst....can we really see an object as it is. have you ever seen something and found inner beauty? something that can't be seen or felt or touched but we know it's there? that is another question that can be asked of people. what do we see as beauty? outward physical chracteristics or the inner personality traits? now to my unprofessional medical opinion. beauty is waking up in the morning and it's raining outside, the house is freaking cold because you left the air conditioner on too high and you don't have any milk left over in the fridge because you accidentaly used it all to make dessert the night before and having to resort to toast for breakfast and the phone suddenly rings and when you answer it, your siginificant other calls your name with an affectionate tone to their voice. to state it simply, it's the little things that are beautiful. the major things do account for a lot, but it's the little nuances that keep beauty lasting. let me tell you, some of the most memorable relationships i have had created some of the best memories based on the little things that i've done or experienced.
25. my votes are casted as follows 1. Chris Redfield from RE1. The whole game has a horrible b-movie script written all over it, but chris' dialogue is pretty laughable now compared to the later entries in the seires. (which still have bad voiceacting, but chris is the icing on the cake) 2. Paine from FFX2. I will avoid stirring up the hornets' nest here by commenting the need for an all female cast to help support yuna when the majority of the original party from ffX was still alive, so let's get on to voiceacting. paine's character demanded a strong voice that sounded full of anger and predjudices against certain people. however, we got a boring monotone-ish actor who brought her character to the point where i felt like she was wasting precious oxygen for speaking. 3. anyone who tries to put dialogue into a megaman game. i don't care what game it is, mega man x8 ,mega man legends...etc. all i need to hear is the sound of a mega buster hitting maverick hide. keep the dialgoue to the text boxes please. ummm i cant really vote on five right away. my four and five are toss ups between the characters in sonic adventure and the guy from zero wing, katz. all your base are belong to us.
