Panda replied to Anqueetus's topic in General Discussion
Welcome back Anqueetus! As Raiyuu has mentioned intro threads are out of vogue here on the Boards. I'll just go ahead and lock up shop here. :catgirl: Again, welcome back and I hope to see you posting around the Boards! -Panda -
Welcome to theOtakuBoards sasuke_x_luvr, Please be aware that we have a rules page that all members are required to read before posting. These Rules and FAQ can be found on the left navigation menu and the Otaku Lounge Rules are pinned at the top of the forum. You can also use the underlined links I have just provided. We have pretty high standards when it comes to the quality of posts (ie: making them well thought out with care given to grammar). When you re-read the rules page it will make more sense to you. This post falls far short from the quality we expect from our membership. Also, when posting a question related to anime it should be posted in the Anime Lounge, not the Otaku Lounge. For those reasons I am going to have to lock this thread. If you have any questions please feel free to PM myself or any of the other moderators. Again, I welcome you to the boards and I hope to see you posting around the site. Have fun! ~Panda

These types of threads degenerate fairly quickly which is already evident in this thread. The types of posts we like to see on the OtakuBoards are ones that will generate quality discussions, the "add words to the story" threads do not meet that criteria. For that reason I am going to lock this thread. Please feel free to PM me or any of the other moderators if you have any questions. Thanks. ~Panda
I just sent a message a few minutes ago (it's 6:57 pm where I am now) to see what would happen. I don't believe it really worked, but all the ones I've sent, including this one, show up in my sent box. What's UP with this, anyway?! [/COLOR']
All messages that you send will and should show up in the "Sent" box. The PM sent box is very similar to that of the "Sent" box with most email programs. It gives you a record of what you have sent. If it shows up in the sent box that means that the message has been sent. Oi, I think I have over used the word sent in this response. :animesigh

Welcome to theOtakuBoards Vampire Queen! Please be aware that we have a rules page that all members are required to read before posting. These Rules and FAQ can be found on the left navigation menu and the Otaku Lounge Rules are pinned at the top of the forum. You can also use the underlined links I have just provided. We discourage the "looking for friends" type threads here on the boards. The rarely generate any quality responses. These theads end up being just: "Yeah I am." or "Nope" responses. It would be better to put this type of question as a note in your signature so anyone who is from Tennessee can PM you directly. I am going to lock this thread since it is not up to the quality standard we require of threads on the boards. If any members in your state come across this thread they can still send you a message through the PM system. :) If you have any questions please feel free to PM myself or any of the other moderators. Again, I welcome you to the boards and I hope to see you posting around the site. Have fun! ~Panda

I usually read signatures. I find many of them quite humorous or insightful. I rarely comment on them unless *puts on mod hat* there is something wrong with the signature that is causing it to break the rules. Banners are generally what catches my eye versus tons of text alone. Signatures are fun and a great way to show your personality in a small way.

You can have a cookies and punch social. Bake some goodies and make some punch and coffee for guests. Invite people whom have the means to donate money. These would be people like your friends parents, church members, teachers, neighbors, co-workers..etc. You can gather them all together and make a speech. Yes, I know, public speaking. Let them all know what you are doing and how their contribution can help make this come true. Having pictures and information about what the International Thespian Festival is and why you would like to attend is a plus. After you make your speech to the crowd invite them to enjoy your homemade treats and as they are snacking visit with them individually. Answer any questions they may have about what you are doing. Be sure to thank everyone for their time even if they don't donate any money to your cause. Best of luck to you in raising the money you need!

I wander by the OtakuBoards everyday, several times a day. I work on the computer so when my mind begins to wander from my work I stop in and check things out. I've become a bit lazy since I am no longer the one and only mod in the Otaku Lounge. I generally check out what new threads are starting up, read responses to current threads, stalk Des then I wander away from the site for a few hours. Posting wise I have become a bit of a lurker as of late. I read but don't write. It's very voyeuristic isn't it.

The older I get, the more thrifty I become. I am sure this is from my days as a starving college student working two jobs and going to school at the same time. When you have to start paying for everyday living costs (ie food, shelter, education...) you begin to find things like "high fashion" are thrown out the window. I love second hand shopping. You will find really nice clothes that don't cost you an arm and leg. I would like to take this time to thank all the really rich people who only wear an article of clothing for one "season" since they want to stay on top of the current trends. Thanks to you, I get great clothes for a fraction of what you paid. Rock on rich people, rock on. Heck, half of the stores you guys have posted about I have never even heard of. I am sure that is because I very rarely frequent malls. That and all those trendy stores cater to the young and thin and, alas, I am neither young or thin. :animesigh
Not to mention that awful panda girl. Gah. *dodges tomatoes*
I can't believe you don't like Mei. You too Lindus! You guys can't even be bothered to know her name! :animeangr Unless you guys are referring to me as the awful panda girl?! I really like the manga only characters. The whole
new Greed
-ness is very interesting to me.
i HATE my math teacher he's the WORST!
Welcome to the OtakuBoards darkismyman. Please do not bring back long dead threads. This thread was last active back in 2003. If you feel this topic still has some discussion value we prefer you begin a new thread versus resurrecting an ancient one. Your response to this thread is not quite up to par as well. I suggest you review the Rules of the site before you continue posting. We have a pretty high standard when it comes to posting quality. For those reasons I am going to have to close this thread. If you have any questions about posting here on the OtakuBoards please feel free to PM myself or any of the other moderators on the site. You haven't really given us too much information to go on. I would have to agree with Samurai Mix about going with a character you like. It makes the cosplay experience so much more fun. We don't know too much about you. Do you like anime characters? Game characters? Visual kei bands? I don't even know if you are a guy or a girl. I could suggest you go as Theif Rikku but if you are a guy who doesn't want to crossplay or a modest girl it wouldn't be a good suggestion. Does that make sense? We could all suggest a bunch of character but you may not know or like them. There are so many things to consider when deciding on what to cosplay. Here are some questions to ask yourself: Cosplay or crossplay? Are you going to cosplay only characters of your gender or are you willing to dress as a character of the other gender? I am a girl and I cosplayed Hanatarou Yamada from Bleach, which is a male character. It was fun and I had no issues crossplaying a male character. Budget How much are you willing to spend on your costume? Homemade, commission or "ghetto" cosplay? Are you going to make your entire costume from scratch? How well can you sew? Are you going to need help with props, getting fabric and materials? If commissioning you need to find a person willing to make your costume. Make sure you give them enough time to get the work done. Custom made costumes take time to make. Sometimes they need the order placed many months in advance. Ghetto-ing your cosplay is another option. That is going to a thrift store or digging through your closet for costume parts. These items can work on their own or modified to look more like a character's outfit. For instance Ed Elric's black pants. Everyone probably has a pair of black pants in their closet or dresser. Cosplay or comfort Are you willing to wear incredibly uncomfortable articles of clothing, really heavy combat boots, tons of make up or even a fur suit in a crowded dealer's room? (On a side note I heard Otakon has a weapons rule that any props have to be small enough to fit in a backpack. Don't quote me on that. Best to check their official website for more information.) I guess that is a good start. Hope you figure out what you want to do for your costume! Best of luck to ya and don't forget the most important thing about cosplaying: Have Fun!

Everyone in this thread has completely forgotten the most important animal in the entire world!! The Giant Panda of course!! How can you resist this cute face?! Pandas have been one of my favorite pandas for years. They are absolutely adorable! How can you not want to just glomp them when you see them?! For me when I see a panda it makes me think that we, as human beings, are trying to make the world a better place. Poor pandas are on the endangered list! Everytime a baby panda is born it makes me feel like we are trying to make things right, undo the wrongs we have caused in this messed up world. We have to save the pandas!
Enough that I plan on either working as a vet or as a technician at a veterinary clinic.
You so totally rock! The absolute best career in the world!! Not that I am biased or anything...

What do you think are the best and worst foods?
Panda replied to Up4anime's topic in General Discussion
Wow, there are other people who dislikes celery. :: stares at Raiyuu and Mello :: I thought my hubby was the only one. It's a texture thing with him though. I think it's the "strings". I love it. I'll eat celery with peanut butter or dipped in ranch dressing. Not to mention all the other foods that have celery in them that I love. For the foods I think are the best. Anything that I enjoy eating. At the top of the list would be miso soup as Chie mentioned. I can survived off of miso. Throw in some tofu or daikon and I'm set! I am also a big fan of poultry. Chicken dishes like teriyaki chicken (homemade of course) or grilled chicken sandwiches are probably at the top of that list. As for drinks: Coffee is my drug of choice. I love coffee. Iced or hot I am a very happy girl with a coffee in my hands. In the worst food catagory. I am not a picky eater. Which is very evident by the extra "padding" I seem to have around my middle. :animeangr But there are foods I don't really care much for. Those would be really spicy dishes. No hot sauce for me. I need the "Mild Little Prince Curry" and not the "Manhattan style" as seen in FLCL. Too spicy is too much for me. As for worst drink: Faygo's Diet Chocolate Cream Pie. My father-in-law got some and it was so nasty he made all of us drink some of it. Yuck! Never again. -

Macross Yamato figures YF-11,YF-19,YF-21 FastPack / Standard
Panda replied to a topic in General Discussion
The only thing I remember hearing off the top of my head is that the Fast Pack version of VF-11B have addressed the joint problems the originals had. Yamato dealt with weak joints by beefing them up a bit. I suppose you can say they had hip replacements. I guess there have been issues with tranformation problems between the different modes that the new versions no longer have. Also the color of the Fast Pack versions are slightly different than the originals. Not to say this is a bad thing, just a different shade. But you already know that. I am not a major collector so I really can't be of much help. I have original Macross stuff like the Bandai 1:55 scale VF-1J. As for Macross Plus, I just remember hearing that the joint issues people were having has been fixed with the Fast Pack. Sorry I couldn't be of more help! -
What's the stupidest thing you've ever done?
Panda replied to NekoSama101's topic in General Discussion
Trying to prove that I could do anything my big brother could do I, well, got hurt a lot. For example: When I was 5 and I wanted to climb on the jungle gym like he was. I fell. I broke my arm. I had to wear a stupid plaster cast for the entire summer. It was hot and itchy. When you are only 5 you are not as coordinated as a 7 year old. As for stupid/embarrassing: I walked into a screen door for a sliding glass door with a plate filled with food. I was on the inside of the house going out. I just didn't see the screen. Unfortunately for my aunt, whose house this was at, the inside was her formal living room with white carpet. Yeah, BBQ sauce and ketchup don't like to come out of white carpet easily. -
In Jamaica, if you drop a steel ball weighing five pounds from a height of 45 inches, will it fall more rapidly through water at 20 degrees Fahrenheit or water at 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Or will it make no difference?
At 20 degrees Fahrenheit the water would't be water, it would be ice. Therefore the steel ball would drop faster at 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Since I can't think of a riddle I'll let someone else ask one. :animeswea

What do you think your signature says about you?
Panda replied to shadowpimp's topic in General Discussion
My signature is pretty simple right now. The banner is one I made of some "cousins" from Katamari Damacy in their snazzy rides. I really love the Katamari games so I thought after having my animated Hanatarou (Bleach) theme up for a while it was time for a change. What better way then to roll everybody up into my katamari! Under the banner is a tiny link to myO site. I am not sure why I have that there since there is a link at the top of my posts near my name. I just put it there way back when and then never got rid of it. I think overall my signature is simple and clean. There aren't any snazzy Photoshop effects, no animation and no text on the banner. I think with all the crazy happenings in my life I needed something to be fun, yet very simple. That is what my signature is right now. Or maybe I just want to get in/on a motorcycle, roller skate, wheelbarrow or airplane and get the heck outta here! -
Unfortunately I think some people here have missed the point Charles was making. :animesigh If someone makes fun of your hobbies and interests what should it matter to you. That is their opinion and they can have it. Just like you have your opinion on what you enjoy. If someone calls me an otaku, I just agree with them. I don't see that as an insult, I see it as my nerdy badge of honor. Heck yeah I'm an otaku! So what?! Not everyone is going to think that anime is great. When they say something negative about it and a fan flies off the handle and becomes upset it just gives more power to those who say the negative stuff. They will say: "See how an anime fan acts, that is why they are so lame." All you do is give them entertainment (they probably just want a rise out of you) and verify what they already believe to be true. No matter what your hobby is someone is going to think it is stupid. Watching professional sports, sewing, dog shows, cooking, gardening, collecting stuff....someone somewhere thinks it's dorky. So what. Do what you like, why should their opinion hold any merit when you are the one enjoying it.

I knew this thread would get under my skin. I know no matter what I say people will be set in their opinions. They will always have the feeling that banning a breed out right, killing a family pet who has done nothing wrong is the best course of action. The "burn the villiage to save the village" or "shoot first, ask questions later" idea. It's sad, but there are people who will always feel that way. Law breakers won't care if they break the law. If they want to have a mean dog they will find a way to get one and make sure it has that "junk yard dog" attitude. Banning a breed will only keep these animals out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Not the criminals. So how will banning a breed help dog bites? It won't since now the only people with that breed will be criminals. This goes for anything. Yeah the everyday person can't get a rocket launcher, but I'm sure if you are willing to break the law you can find someone willing to sell you one. Just because it is not legal it won't stop people from seeking it out. As for the Rottweiler situation. I have no idea what happend with that since I don't know all the facts. Was the child just sitting there with the dogs around him? Was he playing tug-o-war? Did he have food? Was he play teasing them? Were these dogs spayed/neutered? How old were the dogs? Did the media make more out of the attack? Without knowing all the facts I don't want to just throw a guess out there as to what happend. As for dogs who are pre-disposed to being aggressive. Cocker Spaniels for many years was listed as the number 1 pure breed biter. Yet Cockers aren't on the danger list. Many of the dogs on the list you will notice made the list due to the "mean dog" image that many people are attracted to. People get dogs without considering their temperments. They just want the cool macho dog. What breed class is that dog a part of? Is it a working dog? Was that dog intended to heard bulls and cattle? Was that dog intended to guard a flock of sheep? When you don't take this into consideration problems arise. I know my dogs are considered "aggressive breeds". I am a responsible pet owner. They are neutered, they are fully vaccinated, microchipped, licensed with the city and have graduated AKC obedience class. Do I let them get away with bad behavior, no. Does that mean I shouldn't be allowed to own them anymore? Why should my dogs or I suffer because someone decided they are bad because of their breed. Why do you want to kill me? What did I do to you? I think for my own good I am going to leave this thread. It's been really hard not to take Retri's comments personally. My dogs have never hurt anyone. I am a responsible pet owner and having someone say they should be banned "just in case" upsets me. Edit: I should also mention that once you ban all the large breeds the new dangerous breeds will be the smaller dogs. After all, they can bite and disfigure a child too. Jack Russell Terriers, Lhasas, Shitzu...your time's up once the big dogs are all banned. Cat bites cause terrible infections and I do know a woman who was bitten by her cat and ended up almost dying. Cats should be banned too. I guess while we are at banning we should just ban all animals since they all have the potential to kill. You can never be too careful right.
-
Another thought I would like to add. Those who train dogs to fight are already breaking the law. Even if a law is passed to ban a breed they aren't going to stop. All that does is keep law abiding, honest dog owners from the breed they love. On that note: We should then ban all guns since all guns have the possibility of killing someone. After all isn't that what they were made for...shooting. Not to mention knives..they are pretty sharp and can kill people. Banning all cars will be good too since a drunk might get behind the wheel. While we are at it we better ban all water. Someone might drown. /sarcasm Banning a breed isn't going to stop people from not being responsible for their pet. All this does is promote the death of an entire breed. Remember: Extinction is forever.
So in my opinion, the main problem isn't the dogs - it's the people who keep them.
Sandy, you so totally rock. Oh boy, do I ever have my opinions on BSL (Breed Specific Legislation). Let's see if I can gather my thoughts in some coherent manner. This subject is a hot button with me. Working in veterinary medicine I have seen what BSL can do to families. For many of us our dogs are family members. They play with the kids, they entertain us to no ends and give us a sense of protection and companionship that is equal to none. When these laws are set that outright ban a breed the family has a choice. They can either move to a place that allows them to keep their pet (for many of us, this is not an option due to costs/career), place their pet in a new home in a different town or euthanize the pet. What has the pet done? Nothing, it's just a "dangerous breed". I think those politicians who pass these laws should have to be in the room with a family as they are forced to give up their pets or worse still, have them euthanized. This brings up a point Sandy mentioned. Nature over nurture. When you have people who are training dogs to fight they are to blame. Those people who neglect or abuse animals making the animal timid and fearful - they are to blame. They are the ones that the law needs to go after, not just a blanket law that hurts an entire breed. Both my dogs would be considered "dangerous breeds" since one is a Rott/Chow mix and the other is a German Shepherd. Have they ever hurt anyone? No. But if one of those laws took hold in my hometown I would have to get rid of them. There is already one in a town 1/2 hour away from here. So needless to say this discrimination really pushes my buttons. Why should they suffer for the crimes of another? Would a law like this dealing with human races pass? I should hope not! But since they are only animals I guess some politicians think it's ok to discriminate. I have know more people bitten by Labradors than one of the "at risk" breeds. Each case of a dog biting someone needs to be examined individually. Many of those who tell you the dog bite stats that come from hospital emergency rooms don't mention that the majority of those numbers come from veterinary clinic employees. Of course vets get bit! When you are working on a frightened and injured animal it will bite. All they see are "X" amount of people have been bitten by dogs this year. They don't say who or what the situation was that caused it. The worst bite I ever received while working at the vet clinic was from an African Grey. I guess that means we should start a law against large birds. /sarcasm Ban the deed not the breed!! Watch the below link that is against BSL. It's really sad so if you are a dog lover it's a real tear jerker. BSL awareness.
hahhaa Im not giving off any i dont want a girlfriend vibes dont worry about that.
Okay. This is exactly what I am talking about. You say you don't want a girlfriend but are receptive to her. I'm know if I were her I would be testing the waters with you. When you act like you want a girlfriend but then say you don't want one that is confusing. As for the texting and such. She could just be friendly. I mean I know I talk to and message my friends all the time. There is nothing more to it than that. Or she is seeing if you are open to having a girlfriend. Who knows. I'm not in your situation. Just my 3 cents to make a total of a nickel on the subject.

And this will generate quality conversation how? A poll on what the school's favorite slushy flavors would be best to take place at your school where it is more likely that people have actually consumed the frozen treat as opposed to a message board filled with people from all around the world. As it stands only people who attend your school can answer with any knowledge on the subject. What flavors used by members here may be of different brands thus giving you a fault poll reading. This topic would be best suited for your myO sites where you can then refer your classmates to respond. As a thread here on the OtakuBoards it is lacking in discussion value beyond posting a favorite flavor. For that reason I am going to lock this thread. If people here want to respond they can PM you directly with their vote.
