The only other thing I'd really like to see - but I'm not sure if it's possible - is the ability for users to disable or "hide" their rep. This could be a good opt-out for people who just aren't interested at all (a bit like displaying post counts). But again, that may not be too easy to do, because right now I don't think we can control it via the Admin CP.
This is not only possible but very easy to do. The reason you're not seeing it is because you're looking in under the main reputation options. The setting that allows users to hide their rep is actually in the usergroup options and I'll definitely go through and enable that for all groups.
Okie-dokie!:) So when is it expected to be up and running?
I'm not sure we have a time frame yet. We still need to determine whether we want anonymous rep or not first and then do some back-end work.
In my opinion, anonymous would be better. I know in my personal experience with bad/negative/evil rep, I'd get pissed off and start hounding the person that gave it to me, and I know I'm not the only person like that. I don't think it'd be good for the system or forum if some, or even everyone, was running and trolling and giving revenge bad rep. I just don't see it working out well.
This was a concern with the normal rep system, as seen just about everywhere else, but the more lighthearted Good vs. Evil system should generally prevent that kind of abuse because it's no longer based on the quality of your posts or even on what you're saying.

Okay, so here's what I've gathered from this thread so far: Rep Ability: All options open to all Rep Format: Good vs. Evil Anonymous Rep: TBA (See note below) Rep Comments: No Are we all in agreement with the above? If so, the only thing we really need to discuss at this point is whether or not you should remain anonymous when you rep someone. Remember that there is no way to make it completely public so the only affect this setting would have would be to allow the person receiving the rep to see who gave it to them.
Wait, messages? If you wanted to do that, isn't there something called a 'reply button' that allows one to do that? I thought this was a poll on a RATING SYSTEM ONLY.
vBulletin's reputation system, which is what this discussion is revolving around at its root, allows you to leave a comment with your reputation choice. Currently, I don't know how to disable the comment half of things. However, the comments are optional and it will still allow you to click submit without filling one in. Edit: Scratch that. I figured out how to remove the form as well as change the text that displays. So, what do you think? Do we want to leave the ability to post comments there or take it out completely?
I can see why it was done like this in a regular karma system, as those are more judgmental and maybe people ought to know privately why they've been praised or condemned publicly. But I don't think this feature has any real function in the lighthearted good/evil system we're talking about implementing. Maybe if the comments were public it'd be fun to read through and see the silly things people said, but if it's just one person privately telling another person why they deemed them good or evil, it could be... weird. Not to mention, having to type a message every time you just want to rate someone as good or evil could deter participation in the system.
I only made changes to the existing reputation system and unfortunately, that is how it is coded. There is no way to make reputation comments public. However, you can choose not to comment at all and simply use the plus or minus choices which are currently labeled "I approve" and "I disapprove" respectively. I'll see if I can find a way to change that though.
-
I'm not sure it's possible to disable the ability to leave messages as as whole. As for keeping the name visible, while this is easy, only the person leaving the rep and the person receiving it can see it. Reputation comments are not publicly visible regardless of whether or not they are left anonymously.
why? if you are willing to pass judgment then you should hae no problem putting your name behind it... well... not your real name... but you know what i mean... if we prevent people from hiding there identity, it could potentially stop prevent a few people from abusing the system.
I'm not worried as much about abuse with this version of the system. Plus, it will not be optional. It's a site-wide setting that determines whether or not you can see who left rep for you. Plus, if a situation did arise, the user who left the comment is still stored with it so in the event someone was abusing it, they wouldn't be entirely anonymous. That's just a counter-point for your abuse scenario though. If you simply want to be able to see the usernames, that's another matter entirely and is the point of the current discussion.
Are people going to know who rated them good or evil?? or will it be kept anonymous
I guess that can be the next question. Should it be set so you can see who said what about you or should the comments be kept anonymous?
One other thought I had was to have it vary depending on which skin you're using. For example, Caramelldansen could use "tsuntsun" and "deredere" or something. Dunno if that's possible, though, so whatever have you.
I'm going to say that this, while it would be fun, would likely be impossible. I guess in theory, it could be done but it would require massive edits to the code that I'm not currently positive how to make. If and when we do go through with this, it will have to be a unified system across all themes.
And as long as it is, why does it just have to be a "this person rules/sucks" meter? We could easily change it to a system where there's fun times on both ends of the spectrum, such as an RPG-esque "good/evil" meter.
I actually like this idea as well. Changing the descriptions, and maybe the images associated (I'd have to look into this) is definitely possible and would likely make this a little more fun. It might also fix the issue of people abusing the rep system as it would really be in place entirely for fun. This is definitely something I think we should consider.
It's possible that different poll options will get different results and we have members who have joined and become active since the last poll. So I don't see any harm in a new vote.
Nor do I. However, we need an informal poll first. I'd be happy to set up the actual poll but we need to decide on what options we're including. Anyone reading this should feel free to make recommendations.
-
We did indeed do a poll which you can see the results to in the thread I linked above but it never hurts to get an idea of what the current member-base things. What should our options on said poll be though? Simple yes/no or should we include some of the ideas mentioned here?
Also, keep at it until you force Gavin to stop being so lazy and actually follow up on his threat. Though I don't see that happening anytime soon. He's way too lazy for that. :D
*briefly reappears to coax Gavin into being un-lazy and then disappears again*
The Band Whoever Made The Theme song For Soul Eater i cant seem to find the name for the band but the songs name is Resonance
The band you're looking for is T.M. Revolution. I have to agree that the opening song to Soul Eater is rather awesome. I actually saw it performed live for its world premiere a couple of years ago, believe it or not.
You mean you did something constructive when you were bored ?! Traitor! Turn in your membership Petie.
Um... uh... Look over there! *points, then runs away*
That seems to have done the trick, the threads that seemed to be missing are now showing like they should. So thanks for taking another look. :)
Oh, the wonders of being bored in class...

Well, I did a little playing with the archive code and the database and figured out the issue. It wasn't that certain content wasn't being displayed or was out of date, it was just sorting in an odd order. I updated the page to sort by the time of last post instead of whatever it was sorting on before and everything seems to be right now. Let me know if you notice anything missing/not working though.
Maybe, I'd figured they came mostly from external searches like Google and such.
Ah, I hadn't thought of that actually. I can see that being the case too.
No respect I tell you, no respect. Also why doesn't it occur to people that if a thread is seven years old and hasn't been posted in since then that maybe it's dead ?
Because some people take the suggestion/rule to search before you post a new thread very literally. Personally, I think it's refreshing to see people paying attention to the rules, even if they're not paying attention to the date of the last post in the thread ;)

Gaming if there was a batman fighting game who whould u have in it?
Petie replied to new_Changeling's topic in Noosphere
Hello, new_Changeling, and welcome to OtakuBoards! Since this thread is focusing on a hypothetical game, it really belongs in the Arcade, which is where I'll be moving it now. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or any other staff member. -
I'd agree except that there's no setting to control how often the archive updates. I looked at the code and nothing in it suggests that it should not be displaying live data (which it is, to a certain extent, as I've seen just posted threads show up in the archive).
-
Just remember that the pages you see while using this version of the site are read-only meaning that you will not be able to post while browsing the archive. The other problem which I'm currently trying to fix (with no luck at the moment) is that the archive does not show the most recent posts (posts from the last few days in this case). I'll keep you all updated with my progress on that front. Edit: I seem to be mistaken about which threads the archive displays as a brand new thread just appeared there even though about 6 others are mysteriously missing...
-
There is technically a "mobile" version built in to vBulletin but its features are rather limited. If all you're interested in is viewing the content of the site, take a look at http://www.otakuboards.com/archive/index.php. Be sure to click the PDA link at the top of a forum listing to sort it in terms of the most recent threads. As for actually posting from a mobile device? This built in archive won't let you do it and I'm not aware of anything official that lets you.

There is one other thing you can check. Not that it makes sense that this would be the case but I suppose it could have been set by accident or without you knowing. Under Options > Content, there's an option labeled "Load images automatically." That should be checked as you're seeing images on other sites. Click on "Exceptions..." and just make sure that theOtaku isn't listed there with a status of "Block." Again, this isn't likely the case and I'm sorry that this still isn't working for you. I'm not sure what else could possibly be causing this though. Good luck!

It seems unlikely that reinstalling Firefox would help in this instance since this isn't happening everywhere. However, it definitely couldn't hurt so if you want to give that a shot, go for it. As one other quick test, you can try to force Firefox to reload the page from the server by pressing Ctrl + F5. Clearing your cache should force that to happen anyway but like I said before, something may just not have been checked off originally. If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know.
