If this could be done I think it would certainly be a better alternative, as we're getting a much more genuine view than including the dozens of search engine users. If we could integrate it into the Otaku Records idea Sandy (at least I think it was Sandy) put forward a few months back it'd be a great start to a potentially consecutive set of record breaking events.
It definitely can be done. I have a vBulletin forum on my own domain for the sake of testing stuff like this and after digging through the tables a little bit, I can easily pull the maximum number of active users (and that's actual users, not bots) ever online at once. Oh, and for the record, the number of search engine users is better represented in the thousands, not dozens. Our current record for must active users here is 329 on August 3, 2004. This means there were no less than 2,730 search engine bots on the site at that time. One thing to note though is that this value (329 in this case) may reflect activity over the entire course of the day and not all at once (i.e. 329 unique users signed on to the forum at some point during the day that record was set). I'm not sure if this will affect things but it's something to think about. I'm not sure I remember Sandy's idea though. Where was it? Or, if you could link to it, that would be good too. All I need to know is what information I'm looking for and I'll be able to find it given a little time so this idea, whatever it may be, could have a lot of potential.
Oh and thank you for the info on the counter Dessy. I guess until that's resolved, this idea is kind of dead in the water.
I actually now know how to reset the "Most users ever online" stat but this isn't going to help us if we can't figure out a way to exclude search engines. I think Des has the best idea in terms of making this work by simply trying to set a "most users logged in at once" record. I can even throw together a page that would make this stat publicly viewable if that would be desired (and the higher-ups approve).
-
Also, I was thinking there was a way to reset the users online at once record but I can't seem to find an option for it.
It can definitely be done but there likely isn't an option for it in the Admin CP. I'm pretty sure the only way to do this is to run a query against the database to reset the count manually. I'll do a little research and see if I can come up with which table and field the value is stored in and get back to you. As for the actual proposed idea, I like it. I think this could actually be an interesting yearly event if not only to see the growth of the site over time.
What about Two story buildings?
Haha, I'm pretty sure the result will be the same. To be safe, I'd suggest you avoid dropping your laptop at all (and especially off of buildings).
Eh. As far as I'm concerned, Piccolo's green is like Bulma's hair. It's a cosmetic change. Some may consider it major, but it's not going to make or break the movie. At least he still looks somewhat intimidating. If they made him, say, Piccolo the Fluffy Bunny Man, then I'd definitely be a bit concerned.
I have to disagree here. It's one thing to cast actors that look nothing like the characters they are playing but Piccolo is green (and yes, Raiha, has antenae). That is not something you can mess with. Sure, his being green does not affect his power but it's like taking Batman and putting him in a Nemo suit. He may perform exactly the same but he is no longer Batman. Piccolo's green skin is a mark of his race just as much as ridiculous hair and tails are a mark of the Saiyans. (Oh, and Bulma's hair needs to be blue too but I won't argue that for now.) Piccolo, among just about everything else with this movie, has been bothering me since I found out about it months ago. It's like they're completely disregarding everything that makes Dragon Ball Dragon Ball. What especially bothers me is that Goku, besides not looking like Goku at all, is far too old. Sure, there was a point in Dragon Ball where he was older but you can't make a movie about five episodes. They really needed a kid to play Goku. And, from what I've read, they also took out Krillin, an exceedingly important character to the Dragon Ball story. I think I'll stop here before this turns into an unnecessarily long rant. This pretty accurately covers my opinion of the movie thus far anyway.

Pretty much everything of importance has been said but I would like to throw in one extra point about viruses. Yes, you are less likely to get a virus on a Mac than a PC but Macs are not immune to viruses. What it really comes down to is how you use the computer and especially what you download and run. You have to be very careful with downloads from unknown sources because you never know what you'll get, regardless of platform. I don't personally own a Mac but I've been using them for a long time (elementary school straight through high school) so I know them pretty well. I think James said it best in terms of the differences between the two systems for graphic design. You can get programs like Photoshop for both platforms and it will run fine on both. For reasons I'm not entirely sure of though, a lot of people going into any sort of media major go with a Mac (especially if you're doing video, which pretty much requires a Mac for Final Cut). The only thing I'm going to disagree with James on is the Mac vs. PC MS Office suite. I have used both extensively and I find the PC version to be far more useful, albeit a little harder to learn because of the number of features. However, Office will serve you well on either platform so this isn't really a sticking point for me. Plus, there's always OpenOffice if you don't like the MS suite. It's free and compatible with all MS Office applications. I'm personally not a fan of the new MacBook design so if I were going to buy one, I'd go with a Pro though unless you're running some pretty powerful applications, you won't need the extra power the Pro provides. I'm pretty sure that covers everything I wanted to say. I was a bit distracted while typing this up though so let me know if you need anything explained better or simply want more information. I'm sure there are plenty of people here who would be happy to share their experiences until you've come to a final decision.

Wow... when you told me I was in this one, I was not expecting this. The story was good though and it was sort of interesting (in a slightly creepy way) seeing myself in a role exactly opposite of that which I played last time. I'm just not so much looking forward to my, at this point, completely inevitable death in some upcoming story (assuming Gavin's last thoughts were really foreshadowing future events).

The ability to see your background greatly varies by the resolution of the screen you're looking at it from. Generally, there's no sure-fire way to have your background fully seen by everyone because there's no way to tell what resolution they're using (and because of that, no way to lay out your site to show off your background). You do have a couple of options though. First, you can make the page layout of your myOtaku site transparent. This will at least allow you to see through the content to the background. For instruction on how to do this, see [thread=53703]this thread[/thread]. Your only other option is to choose a background that tiles. That way, regardless of resolution, your background will always fill the entire screen without appearing to repeat itself. This obviously won't work for real pictures though as the design needs to be fairly simple. Let me know if you need any more help or if you need anything here better explained.

I've seen this happen before actually. Certain code can break the text boxes and cause the backroom to be completely unusable. An admin can reset these fields without the need to delete your profile so I'd definitely recommend taking Desbreko's advice and contacting Panda.

While Dagger provided a perfect reply to your question, in case you're interested in some physical proof, I give you the [thread=43668]Star Wars 411[/thread] thread which currently has 1,616 posts. If that's not proof that there is no limit on the number of posts (or life of the thread for that matter), I don't know what is ^_^

How do you change your Otaku Background image?
Petie replied to WickedDreams's topic in Help & Feedback
From what it seems, you're skipping one step. First, click on that browse button, navigate to your desired image, and click okay (which is what I'm assuming you've been doing up to this point. Then, check off that box just above the browse button labeled "Use Customizations Below" and click Edit Design at the bottom. This should save the changes and use your new background image. Just look out for any kind of error message the system might respond with after you click Edit Design. Changes are, you won't get one but if you do, that's another reason your background isn't changing. -
Des, that is possibly one of the best image posts I've seen to date... (among being an excellent way to describe the gold star of course!)

Just to reinforce what was already said, asking for a moderator position isn't the way to go. Your best bet is to just stay an active member, follow the rules here, and generally just participate on the boards. Then, when the need for another moderator arises, we'll be looking for members in good-standing who would be a good fit for the position and if you stand out for a good reason (for instance, you were generally very helpful to other members or always brought some very interesting points to a topic - these are just examples that I made up and don't represent any kind of real criteria used in selecting moderators by the way), you may be asked to fill the position.

Hi and welcome to OtakuBoards. Before you continue posting, you should read over the rules and FAQ for the site. Unfortunately, this thread is breaking one of our main rules - "Threads or posts created solely for advertising" so I'll have to close it. You're free to create threads for the purpose of discussing bands that you like but if you want to advertise your own sites, you can add links to them in your signature (which you can do here). If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or any other staff member. Thread closed.
Okay, I looked around nothing seemed to answer my question. In the worlds on the, theOtaku site, how do I post in there? I made two of them, and I still haveint figured it out yet lol.
Assuming you're starting out from the home page, start by clicking on Backroom in the box on the right side of screen. Next, towards the top under the header image (a dark blue row), click on Post. Select the World you want to post to with the Add to World drop down, fill out the rest of the form (not all fields are mandatory), and click Add Post.

Okay, I'll admit I haven't seen the originals in a long time so my opinion of the ending not fitting in may be slightly off. I guess in the end, I really just didn't like the turn it took which wasn't so much about fitting in as it was a matter of personal taste.
Though I still think the alien was pretty out there regardless of the original movies' themes...

I saw Crystal Skulls on opening night and I was actually pretty disappointed. I won't say it was a bad movie and I don't regret seeing it but it kind of let me down as far as Indiana Jones goes. It has the classic movie lack of realism like
a large number of soldiers all shooting at a single man without hitting him (on multiple occasions)
but that kind of thing doesn't bother me - I expect it by now and it generally tends to be amusing. There were a number of things that did bother me though. First of all,
I thought the crystal skull they were carrying around was pretty corny looking. I don't know how they could have made it look better but I wasn't crazy about it. I also didn't like the fact that after making it to that epic looking temple, they went through all of three rooms before revealing what bothered me most about this movie - the alien.
This really just didn't fit into the whole Indiana Jones setting if you ask me. I honestly thought that it completely ruined the ending of the movie and a good number of the people I was with agreed. That being said though, Harrison Ford was still excellent, there were quite a few good moments, and the movie itself was entertaining. Like I said, I'm glad I saw it but it didn't live up to its expectations for me.

Just to confirm what was already said, HTML is completely disabled in Version Vibrant though with some creativity, you can definitely still make a nice looking post/intro, as Aceburner pointed out.
That is incredible.
Yeah, they put a lot of detail into this game. Another thing that I think is rather awesome is standing with one foot on the curb and one on the street. In previous games, the foot on the street would just float. In GTA IV, he actually bends his one leg to even things out. Little details like that really are amazing. As for the rest of the game, from the little bit I've gotten a chance to play so far, I'm really liking it. I find myself enjoying the missions more than I did in GTA III. I know I eventually stopped the missions altogether in III and just used the game to run around the city after that. It could just be because I'm older and appreciate the story more now but I definitely want to continue this game for the story (as well as the random running around the city here and there) now. I just have to wait until after finals are over to really get a chance to sit down with it...

What you're saying makes sense and I'm glad to hear that they're not as cheap as I seem to be thinking. I forgot to comment on this before but I also like what you're saying about being able to win by just being a good driver/knowing the tracks. Item dependency is not how I like to win races. I would love to see them do something to MK like they did with Galaxy and I'm sure they will eventually. It's just a matter of time. Thanks for clearing up those couple of points though.

It seems I'm a bit late to the party but congratulations all the same! She really is adorable ^_^
I would have at least liked the ability for two players to do a Grand Prix together (even if it isn't co-op in the same way as Double Dash).
This is really disappointing to hear. Grand Prix co-op has always been one of my favorite features and is the main reason that I loved Double Dash. Even if they didn't do co-op in that sense though, I wish they would have at least included it in the same way they did for the rest of the series. I'm also rather disappointed to hear the numerous complaints about CPU opponents being rather cheap. Things like that (and certain event matches in Brawl for instance) generally kill the experience for me so I'm hoping that the instances I've been reading about here haven't been recurring (though it seems as though they are). As for the rest of the game, since I haven't had a chance to play it yet, I can't really say anything about it. I'm slightly less excited about the game after reading through this thread though being a fan of the series since the beginning, I still intend to pick it up at some point.

I finally got around to making a full list of all of my online info. Two more excellently written stories. I thoroughly enjoyed them both - especially the one with all of the ridiculous cliches in it. That was a genius idea, whoever thought of that ;) Haha, seriously though, well done.
