The Boss The Boss in all his censored glory On July 11, 2003, The Boss happened upon OtakuBoards while searching for information on ?Trigun ? and RPGs in general?. He posted initially under name Double_B_Diago with low quality relative to his current standards, and soon switched to ReFlux. Under this moniker, he began carving his niche in OB as a skilled roleplayer and strong writer in the Battle Arena. His forte was rap battles (Charles claims to have started the trend), and The Boss is quick to proclaim his unsurpassed skill in the art even today. However, it was his roleplay writing that gained him much more widespread respect and pushed The Boss to become a more prominent member of the Boards. As with most writers, he struggled through his cliché-riddled prose and predictable plotlines for quite some time. After a brief hiatus, he changed his name once more, this time to Mugen. While known as this, he continued to collaborate with other reputable RPers in the Arena. He penned several fanfictions directly related to and based upon OtakuBoards all of which received mixed reviews. All Mugen?s prose was of very narrow scope. Rarely did he stray from themes of the Far East, feudal warfare, and martial arts. Almost all RPs he created or joined had one of the three aforementioned elements, and while his writing continued to improve, it still contained his old weaknesses. Once again, he went on a hiatus, this time slightly longer than ever before, and returned as The Boss. It was at this point he attained the height of his fame, perhaps through notoriety (or genius, depending on one?s perspective). The Boss and Silpheedpilot (at the time AC!D!C) co-founded a clandestine organization Viva Otaku. According to The Boss, it was ?just for the betterment of the members and for quality OB posts with less allowance of n00bish behavior?. The two?s group intended to ?get people banned?, and organically merged with MAMA (Members Against Mods and Admins), another clandestine group that was formed to ?get some less-than-liked mods fired?. These two groups seethed at the current staff for an undisclosed period of time until tensions came to a head in a notorious thread known as ?The Complaint?. Started by Silph, the thread outlined the two groups discontent with the state of affairs. The Boss came quickly to aid his right-hand man and support his argument. In the end, The Boss contests that the ad hoc group had definite impact ? two members from the merged organizations became moderators soon after "The Complaint". The two organizations' impact has been dismissed entirely by both James and Desbreko. The Boss slipped once more into hiatus after the incident and returned only recently to the Boards (Summer 2007). He continues his efforts to start and participate in high-quality RPs, as well as expand his posting to additional areas of OtakuBoards. -

Seriously, I need advice (trying to commit evil)
Retribution replied to Malkav's topic in General Discussion
Raiha's right, you need to convince her you're 18 which means you have to look the part. If you don't look 18, ggkthxbai. I'd recommend becoming pretty good friends with the teacher (which might be hard if your grades are low in her class). Once you do, start staying after for extra-help and work from there. Perhaps when you're one-on-one, you can try to sit closer and closer to her? Wow, I can't believe I offered semi-serious advice for someone to seduce a teacher. Oh how the mighty have fallen! -
Hats off to you, Boo. Good work. And without further ado... thread closed.

I would say I'm best at the social sciences (psychology, history, government, current events). I enjoy learning about the past and how it influences the modern day, and I find human interactions interesting (both at the personal and political levels). My skill is in my ability to link the information with theory and modern context in a pretty good paper. This sort of bleeds over into English, but I'm not that great about picking apart literary themes and analyzing them. My worst subject is certainly math. Physics was the hardest class I've ever taken, and although I did decently in it, it was a constant uphill struggle. Calculus was a straight up mindf***, but it was heavily conceptual which helped.

I Forgot What You People Look Like (Image Heavy)
Well not everyone here is attractive. Some of the guys look like pretty boys [that I used to beat up in high school] or just ridiculous. Some of the girls, but a minority, aren't attractive to me at all. A little honesty never killed anyone.
Raiha, I love you. You're not talking about me, rite?? ;___; -
Hey, I was in Manhattan over the weekend, and I took a bunch of pictures on my cellphone camera. Really I thought little of them. I snapped shots whenever it looked like a nice scene or image I'd want to capture, but I knew the quality would be poor. When I uploaded them today, I was pleasantly surprised that they were actually pretty good in quality. So this thread is for people to post photographs they snap along their way so we can see what you've seen and share a bit of your experiences. You can post pictures or just comment on what you've seen so far, but I encourage everyone to participate in some capacity. You can have a really awesome digital camera or (like me) a 1.3 megapixel cellphone camera, it really doesn't matter. Below are links to my photos. I look forward to seeing everyone else's! I'll be out until next friday-ish, so if I don't most much (if at all), don't be surprised. Sorry! Edit: The place I'm staying at has free wifi, so I'm good to go. Disregard my previous message, haha.

Taejong was roused midmorning by a royal messenger. The man was laden with deference and absolute respect for the Prince, and began apologizing thoroughly as if he were afraid for his life. ?My greatest apologies, Lord Muyeol. I know nothing I say can remove this most vulgar transgression, but I beg your pardon.? It was curious that the man?s voice did not tremble, for he bore shocking news. ?What is it?? ?We have just received notice from Lord Hwang Zhejiang that Enshian and Matsya are poised for war at their borders. The Lord wishes permission to attack Enshian so as to create a two-front conflict. I await your orders, for the matter is most urgent.? Indeed, his instinctual first move would be to flank Enshian and bring the kingdom to its knees. However such a move would leave Silla open to a two-front war with Tsuchi, which would drag all four countries into total war. Bitter conflict, raping the land of its vitality and needlessly murdering civilians, innocent casualties of a monarch?s arbitrary decision to invade. ?I deny the Second Commander?s request to begin attacking Enshian. Send a diplomatic envoy to Tsuchi immediately, and ask for a vote of confidence from them. Ask the Peacock Maharaja for a temporary and highly secret alliance.? His clouded mind raced with the new developments, swirling about with the chaos of making an accurate decision in a very finite amount of time. A miscalculation, either diplomatically or militarily would lead to certain ruin, and he had no wish to return to the divided and weakened Three Kingdoms from whence he rose. ?Is that all, your royal highness?? ?No. Have border forces mobilize and man all fortifications. I do not wish for their conflict to bleed into our nation. And do stress our envoy to be calculated and firm, but approach the Peacock as a friend.? ?Your will be done, sire.? He flew away with great speed, sending his message to both his envoy in the capital and his prized Second Commander. The news would be ill received; the Silla military had not seen conflict in quite some time in comparison to the other war-ragged countries, but he had no intention of sending them headlong into death. The sun was already high in the sky, coating his glorious nation in a quilt of gold, spanning throughout the countryside and upon his capital?s prominent turrets. It would be a good day for Silla.

The Inevitable O-Lounge Blondes Vs Brunettes!
Retribution replied to Andrew's topic in General Discussion
Long black/dark brown hair FTW. Slight curls, or just completely straight are my faves, but tight curls also have their place. I dunno, I associate blond with Hilton and Spears. I know that's unfair, but that's just how it is. -
So how does the Kaioken factor into Hadouken/Kamehamea's power?
Okay, quick question. What if we post wallpapers that are actual wallpaper size? I just want to clear that up, quickly.
Yeah, that's cool. I just edited my last post to include that. I guess we posted at the same time. -
I only signed up for this because you promised there was a direction you intended to take with the RPG instead of just "Ready? FIGHT!!!". And frankly, those RPGs always die within a week. What's the current count for numbers of people per empire?

Name: Taejong Muyeol Nickname: ?True Marrow? Age: 29 Gender: Male Country of Origin/Residence: Silla, the North Kingdom Profession: Prince, 1st Commander of the Hwarang, 2nd General of Silla Appearance: [Click here] Weapons/Style: Mounted troops armed with bows and arrows, long swords. Taejong heavily prefers surgical strikes and guerrilla tactics as opposed to formal combat, and will rarely, if ever, be caught in an extended engagement. The Legend of Shai Guan: An excerpt from a Sillan merchant's daily record At long last, the Three Kingdoms have been reunited under the command of His Excellence, Prince Taejong! We, the people, have lived in a fractured and disjointed world up until this pivotal moment, a world where tomorrow was never certain, a world where there was only war and famine, a world of despair. We have endured great tyranny, endless bureaucracy and unjust authority. It was only one month ago I could not leave my home after the sun at set. [paragraph omitted] These Three Kingdoms, these three brothers, have been alienated from one another for decades ? it is outside of my memory the last time we stood together as a nation. Our Prince Taejong, through great diplomatic exertions as well as magnificent force, has utterly dispatched the warlords our Three Kingdoms were rife with. It has been said that Lord Taejong kidnapped the maidens of the two opposing kingdoms, and used them as leverage against them. But in order to foster diplomatic ties, he forced them to intermarry with the aristocracy of all Three Kingdoms. Through this, as well as dispatching those resistant to the unification, these Three Kingdoms, riddled with error and corruption, rise to great heights as the North Kingdom of Silla! There are few stories of our young Prince?s exploits on the battlefield, but those that do come into the public eye are epic memoirs of gallantry and heroism. It is said that with only one hundred and fifty Hwarang warriors, Prince Taejong managed to slaughter one thousand men. It is certain the man has a mind for tactics, both on and off the battlefield; I would wager he is a very wise man, even in his youth. Aside from these noble exploits, a unified Silla has made my life much easier. Bandits no longer travel roads. Markets open and close on time. Our currency has been standardized, and Taejong intends to begin taxing the population for public projects. He says he intends to build grand things such as art halls where live performances will be held, he intends to renovate our cities and publicly fund farmers in the countryside. Surely this union of Three has wrought a Perfect One.

1) What is your element of power? I'm in my element of power when I command people to do things in an overly bureaucratic, authoritarian, unjust way. 2) Who taught you how to ride a bike? The kid I stole my current bike from. At gunpoint. People teach efficiently when at the end of a gun. 3) When do [you prefer kill small children] ? Midday, ideally. -
Hey DJ, it would seem you've exceeded your monthly bandwidth for photobucket, because I can't see the image. Try hosting it at imageshack.us, you don't even need to sign up, or if that doesn't work you can always upload the file as an attachment to OB.

Art The Desktop Screenshots/Wallpapers Thread [image heavy]
Retribution replied to DeadSeraphim's topic in Creative Works
Because none of these are actually wallpapers (and they stretch the layout), I'm deleting all three posts. You've set a precedent for desktop threads being massive image-plugging, and although the humor is appreciated, I'm gonna have to baleet it. But! In the interest of compromise, if you actually set these as your wallpapers and take a screenshot of the desktop, that's allowed. Thaaaanks. In the interest of keeping things on-topic, my wallpaper can be found here. -

Some of you older members might remember that I had written a bunch of haiku in the Anthology. If you care to read those, just search. This thread will be devoted to my more recent poems. I'm looking to seriously develop my abilities, so please don't take it easy on me. I guess I'll start out with one for now.
I'm not going to say they are right when all they said was complete and utter filth and lies! If someone in your family said you sucked **** and you were useless you would agree with it? No family is worth that, they are trash and i have pretty much made my decision but i would really like more input.
Oh f___ that, you need to sever all ties with them. They aren't your family if they treat you like that. Real family sticks together and looks out for each other, not gossip and call people names. It's terrible that they'd do this, and I feel sorry for your grandmother who has to watch this happen as her sun sets. But you cannot let your cousins insult your sister. The fracture is on their hands, not yours.

That's exactly right, Metal Paw. I just edited you in. Look, folks, if you don't want this to die, be sure you know when you're going and check back routinely to see how things are progressing. I don't want to keep skipping people because they're taking too long. Please take no longer than a few days. Thaaaanks. :p

Writing [PG] My poems of love, loss, and heartache

1) I'll be a freshman in college come September. I just graduated May 25th. 2) I'm only vaguely worried about my own academic inadequacy. I'm going to a school where everyone is extremely bright, so I'm afraid I'll be destroyed. I'm not entirely sure what I want to do, but I have a pretty good idea the general direction I want to go to. 3) Well, I have yet to hit a roadblock to my progress. First it was the SAT, and I studied extremely hard for it. My efforts paid off, and I got into my dream school. 4) My advice to you: Don't shy away from things that have a low rate of success! BE that 10% who make it. BE the success story. High hopes and lofty goals are exactly what you should strive for. And if you're not 100% certain what you want to do for a living, that's totally fine. You have time to explore in college. Oh, and for the love of god, don't take a year off. People do that and wake up one day only to realize that they're 30 and don't know where their life is going. Keep pushing even when it hurts like hell.
