1.
I'm going to go with MixtressRoxie here. I'm not saying all models and celebrities are naturally voluptuous, but it's not fair to say that all models are bean poles with no shape at all. I mean- Victoria's Secret models anyone?
But I think it's more fair to say that the industry standard is tending towards dangerously petite. Like I said, runways are starting to set minimum BMIs for all models -- I think that speaks for a distressing trend in the modern modeling industry.
It's too easy to rag on skinny women, when it's the same as dissing obese people. We'll blame and insult skinny models for being images of bulimia and anorexia, but it's "not nice" to place faults in self-control on overweight people.
I agree, and perhaps I overstated my position earlier, but I think the fact that the general trend is towards thinness is uh... less than ideal, shall I say? And let's not even mention the eating disorders than can and probably do stem from this idealization of the body. I'm just saying that she won because she fell nicely into the current western perception of beauty, I understand that her race does influence her body type heavily... although perhaps it could be more accurately attributed to culture and the dietary habits that come with it.
 2.
Sorry to bag, but I don't understand why people think commercialized women have no figure. Yes, they're skinny, but they have hips. And boobs. And butts. And they probably work out. Angelina Jolie is the skinniest women ever, and has plenty of curves. *shrug*
Have you seen fashion models lately? Organizations are debating whether or not to institute a minimum BMI for their models. I think that speaks volumes.
 3.
Seriously, I can't be the only one who thinks this... they look like barbie dolls.
No, I totally agree. I guess that's the latest in Eurocentric standards of beauty for you. I'm sick of straight blond hair, 100 lbs full grown women, and seeing a girl's ribs. What happened to having hips?
 4.
[strike]Doesn't it suck for South Africa that their contestant was white?[/strike']
Actually, I was kind of pissed about that after seeing it on the wiki. Anyway, Riyo Mori doesn't look that hot. I know it's a mix of looks and personality, but eh. She's pretty, but nothing stellar. I think she's too thin.
 5.
The reason Imus was fired was both hypocritical and biased. Ok, so he called them nappy headed 'hos, but who invented the slang? If Imus had been black there wouldnt have been nearly an uproar over it. It kind of remindes me of black people saying they are stereotyped but then we have rappers boasting about hos and big cars. If you want to stop being stereotyped than stop proving it right! I'm not saying all black people are the same but damn i am getting tired of gangster wannabes everywhere i turn.
To be totally honest, I think there's a degree of validity to this. However, you neglect to account for the intent of the speaker, which is heavily linked to the race of the speaker. So if a Jew says "Man, Jews are ugly!" you treat it differently than if a non-Jew said the same thing. It's because it's assumed one's intent is non-serious (or less serious than someone outside the group in question). So when Imus said these girls were "nappy headed hos" it was assumed that his intent was to be racist on some level. When a black person says that, there is less emphasis on the quote because they are part of the same group -- they are "nappy headed".
I don't think Imus should have been fired honestly, fire every dj that plays a song with the words nappy and ho then come talk to me.
Well, a DJ playing a song that says that makes no sense because the DJ isn't saying it. The artist is. In theory, you would go after the artists... and again, I agree with that [mostly]. Imus got fired because it's illegal to be racist and he got called on it. Was it because he was old and white? Well, it certainly didn't help his case.
 6. Alright, alright. I'll cut you some slack since Ozy hasn't already started [probably].
 7.
I seriously think we should skip over duokari. It's taking way too long. If we keep this up at this speed, The GW will die out again. =.=
I totally agree. duokari has been skipped, Ozy it's your turn.
 8. News from the front http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y170/retri_trib/newsfromfront.jpg
 9. The video link didn't work, but I searched it on youtube myself. In any event, things like this are just disgusting. It's amazing people like Limbaugh, Hannity, and O'Reilly have audiences. The fact that they do and are very popular says quite a bit about the state of America.
 10. Well, a subforum is currently out of the realm of possibility. I'd suggest one thread per question, with a hub-thread from which the operation runs.
 11.
Shall I edit this post when with my piece after caner has done his so as to avoid spam? Or does it not really matter all that much?
Excellent idea! Yes, from now on, please edit your completed images into your original reply.
Also, are we having a list like last time where we stick to the same order of posting? Or will we just start it again when we reach the bottom of the list?
Yeah, we're having a list like last time.
 12. Alright, all further discussion about the Graphic Worm should take place in the new thread for 2007, found here. See you there, folks. Thread locked.
 13. Graphic Worm 2007 Because of Boo's suggestion, the OB Graphic Worm will start anew every year. This is done partially to cut down on the already long load time, as well as provide us all a sense of history and a way to gauge our progression in style and skill as a forum. How it works, is this: Someone [this time, it's jigglyness] will start off the worm with an image. Others will continue my picture by juxtaposing their own art next to the previous one so that it looks like it’s one piece. Here is an example (the 2006), because I know my explanation was absolutely horrid. 56k users will suffer on the link – that is your fair warning. Please note how each image is a continuation of the previous one – this is what I’d like to see. Take great care that the shade of colors and patterns align when set next to one another so that the worm flows. I expect greater quality this year! There's a link to the Graphic Worm in the left navigation bar under the OB Network, found Here. The Rules are available as part of the "Graphic Worm" link under OB Network as well. To make it easier, I've quoted them below, so you don't have to check the page first.
If you'd like to contribute to the worm there are a few rules that need to be followed. To be accepted your submission must be:

Exactly 600x450 pixels in size.
In jpg or gif format.
Of adequate quality. Make sure it flows with the previous segment.
Posted during your turn in the posting order.

And that about covers it, folks. Post in this thread to claim a spot in line, but please do so only if you're serious about contributing and will do so in a timely manner. We reserve the right to skip you if you're taking too long or produce something low in quality. 14.
That's what I mean by ineffective. Ratings are pretty much cursory right now, and I would think that previews are quite sufficient for a parent to decide upon a movie's suitablilty or lack thereof.
I think it's unrealistic for you to expect parents to watch trailers of movies to determine whether or not they're appropriate for their children to see. I think the good/bad for kids dichotomy we have right now is good, i.e. G - PG13 and R. At a glance, parents can see roughly how "adult" the movie is going to be, instead of having to size the film up for themselves based on a two minute trailer. If you provide the ratings and the audience still have no discretion, then that's the audience's prerogative, but the MPAA should be obligated to provide that information.
 15.
Which makes me curious; do any of you naysayers think that we should abolish the ratings system entirely because movies don't influence people? That's what the entire thing is for; to keep things like sex and violence from influencing kids.
I think you all are ignoring this very valid point Nerdsy brings up. I'd like to see people argue against this instead of talking around it or failing to address it at all.
Actually, I'd like to abolish the rating system because it's just plain ineffective, mostly due to ambiguous messaging present in the [strike]scores[/strike'] scripts?which brings up another thought: there is a marked difference between realistic smoking and advertising smoking.
Don't be silly. Are you saying that a parent should not know that Sin City and The Incredibles are on two totally different planes of existence in terms of violence and maturity? Are you saying that a parent should not know that, despite it's moments of animation, Kill Bill is not intended for children? Ratings aren't censorship, folks. They're advisory and are intended to give you a vague idea of how mature the material within them so that you don't have a 7 year old walking into A Scanner Darkly because it looks like a cartoon.
 16. So Des is doing the template? What exactly does that entail? As for the layout of the page housing the worm, there won't really be a layout per se. If it's okay with you all, it'd just be a string of images scrolling horizontally into infinity with the names of the artists underneath each segment.
 17. So you're suggesting that we start a new 07 worm? This might be a good idea, as it'd make it more mobile and flexible when it comes to hosting. You know what... if people think that's a good idea, I'll definitely do it. I think it'd be cool to compare our community's growth in skill and membership by having a worm each year. Oh, and if this goes through, I guess jigglyness will have the honor of first image of the worm!
 18. I like this a lot. Did you take artistic liberty with the heart on his mustache? Anyway, the proportions are excellent, the hair looks realistic, and the only objection I have is the lack of shading. Really, the picture is a high contrast one, and some grey would really liven things up, particularly his nose, which currently lacks definition. Shading might also give it a sense of depth. But if the original was high contrast/b&w, then you have little to modify.
 19.
so basically, its just a drawing or whatever, based on the theme?
Yeah, that's basically it.
EDIT:[/B'] Drat. What about "Lust" then?
Sorry, that one's taken as well. Check the first post for the master list of all the terms and who's already signed up for them.
 20. All that I'm asking for is a link to the graphic worm. On that page, the names of the contributors could be underneath each segment. And yes, the worm isn't finished, nor will it ever be, really. So if someone (perhaps myself) could update it twice a month, that'd be ideal. Or if you want to do the actual uploading, that's cool too.
 21. No, OB would be the GW's permanent host in theory. I'm not opposed to hosting it in segments, but I didn't think that was the problem with hosting it. Essentially, I just want to know if A) Jamesy can throw me a bone on the hosting and B) it can be listed on the left sidebar.
 22. There's one on Disabled Members, which is all encompassing. I was speaking in reference to a page on my history and whatnot, not one that says "lolblind". Although the "lolblind" is amusing.
 23.
Well, who else[/i'] would write about you? :p
Ouch. My feelings are hurt. Pardon me while I go cry about it. :(
 24. I'm kind of surprised Dagger and Des don't have articles written on them, so I'd like to put in a request for their articles. Is it tacky to write your an article about yourself? Hm.
 25. Due to Delta's zealousness, the Graphic Worm has been in part resurrected. But the project is still at a halt because of a very complicated hosting situation -- I originally was hosting it, then passed it on to Katana, and the project's been dead since October '06 if I'm not mistaken. Considering the Graphic Worm's heavy community aspect, as well as being a very important part of the Art Studio, I propose to have it hosted by OB and listed under the OB Network. I know the question of hosting things on the OB Network was asked a while back, with the general consensus being personal sites are a no-go. But considering this is actually part of OB, perhaps it'd be a legitimate addition? I think there are also obvious benefits of having it hosted by OB, most notably being local hosting means easier access and we get to drop the middle man out of the equation. Agree/disagree?
